The Next Few Steps [Private] Empty The Next Few Steps [Private]

Sun Apr 21, 2013 11:20 am
The training ground was empty; it was a huge balcony lift that had its edges barred with a thick 4 foot rail. It hung over the vast openness, with a beautiful view of the Kumogakure's mountians. It was a wonderful sight, but it did come with its downsides. The elevation of the balcony made its environment very cold, in fact it snowed up there, with only one accessible entry, which was the tunnel walk way that made its way through and around the mountains. That was the only accessible way up to the balcony, unless you happen to have the ability to fly.

As the cold breeze began to blow, covering the balcony in even more snow, the thunderous clouds begun to roll in, as well as the drumming sounds of thunder. When the black thunderous clouds gathered at a specific point, right above the center of the balcony area, a quick luminous bolt of lightning struck the center. Lucky, due to the genius architecture of the balcony, it did not collapse. Then, out of the smoke caused by the bolt, a lone jounin known as Ganki, stepped forwards towards the edge of the balcony, looking out towards the distance. He came dress in his long sleeved jounin attire, his kumogakure headband that was attached to a skully, and a katana that was fastened to his right hip belt loop. Due to his long sleeved jacket, Ganki felt just fine in the cold. Now, he would wait for Baenlin to arrive, hoping that he dressed in comfortable attire as well, for he would need it in today's training.

Waiting he occasionally look towards the entrance to the balcony, that was to his right.

Baenlin was only a few meters away from the training grounds when he heard the lightning strike. If he had passed on his morning exercises (which he never did) the noise probably would have served as his alarm clock since he lived on the training grounds themselves. He found it odd that lightning should strike here, however, considering that there were shorter paths to the ground around here to prevent exactly that. It also made him concerned, as he knew his sensei would be waiting for him on the grounds.
"I hope he managed to avoid the strike," thought Baenlin as he tucked his chin against his chest, making it so that his mouth was behind the headband he had draping from his neck. This served the practical purpose of catching his exhaled breath to warm the air in front of his mouth to keep the frigid air from wearing at his throat, making breathing easier when working. It was a welcomed addition to the long sleeve shirt and hoodie he wore served as his protection from the cold, and the insulted boots he wore kept the ever-present threat of frost-bite at this altitude at bay. Baenlin was use to this cold, but only a fool would not pay attention to his feet in these conditions.
As Baenlin drew level with the training grounds, he met the eyes of his master immediately. He also saw the burn mark on the ground from the lightning strike and noticed his sensei's calm demeanor. It was obvious to Baenlin now that his master had been the cause. "I have come as you asked, sensei." Baenlin said as he arrived in front Ganki, bowing at the waist.

While standing next to rail, he would hear the words of another, from the one known as Baenlin. At last he finally arrived, and well-dressed too. It was a good thing Baenlin came prepared, since Ganki had no plans for carrying back a sick helpless kid down the mountains. Once the kid bowed in respect, Ganki nodded his head in approval.

"Alright Baenlin, let us begin. One more thing, congratulations on passing the genin exams, yeah. As I promised, I will be teaching you the technique that we were practicing a while ago." Ganki waved his hand towards Baenlin, signaling him to begin where they left off. "Alright, begin where he left of yeah, Gather your chakra and proceed on further", he said. The kid got through the first step just fine the last time; it was the shaping of the chakra that needs work.

Once Baenlin had begun the step, if he did, Ganki would pace around him, eyeing him down if he should make any mistakes.

"Thank you master, I appreciate this chance at redemption."

Baenlin was not surprised by this request. His failure during his previous attempt at this jutsu was still a sore spot for him, and one he had planned to remedy. With that in mind, Baenlin had begun creating another jutsu of his own, one to work in combination with his Full Body Current the had was working on as well. The difference was that that the new jutsu, Flight of Screeching Eagles, involved much more shaping and controlling of chakra. He had also gone through steps to remedy his previous lack of control over his chakra nature by hours and hours of meditation where he constantly was manipulating both raw and nature imbued chakra, each in a different hand. Now it was time to see how well the effort paid off.

Baenlin began as last time, by gathering the chakra at a point just above his upturned palm. This process went much more smooth than last time, and Baenlin began to form the chakra into a ball. He was very aware of his sensei's critical eye, but he would not allow a distraction and he allowed his attention to be completely soaked in by the core of the forming ball. Baenlin realized his mistake last time was in trying to rotate the ball of chakra as it formed. It was still a little premature to being doing both at once, and it did nothing more than serve as a distraction from the actual construction of the orb. The process of building the orb took some time, particle of chakra by partical Baenlin formed his orb. He looked to his master after he finished and calmly awaited further instruction, but on the inside he was doing backflips and cheering at his success.

His watchfully eyes catch the mistake that was made, which was time itself. Baenlin took way too long to make reach this step. Ganki shook his head in disapproval, "No, no no, start over again, you took too long. You have to gather and form the charka in an instant." Besides the harsh banter, Ganki saw progress in Baenlin's performance. Ganki felt positive that Baenlin will learn the technique in no time.

Ganki himself summoned the ball of chakra while swirling it in an instant, form the rasengan with ease. He held it up to Baenlin, his right palm facing up, allowing Baenlin to view the ball of rotating chakra. "You see how fast I gather the chakra, while instantly shaped it into a sphere. That is what needs to be done; time is a factor you cannot waste. That split second of you hitting your opponent and your opponent hitting you decides who lives and who dies. It's rough, but sadly it's the true." Ganki's tone was strict and firm as he talked down to Baenlin. "Perform those two steps in an instant, and I will guide you towards the final step in making then rasengan."

Ganki's stood there, with the rasengan still spiraling within his hand. He would wait for the boy's reaction.

Baenlin felt a momentary twinge of logic defying anger aimed towards Ganki as a result of his harsh speech, but it was quickly shot down by Baenlin's understanding that that had been the point. Losing his cool now would show what could be expected when more and deadlier pressure was applied in other situations. Besides, sensei was correct. You could not stand still as long as Baenlin had to get this far in a confrontation without the perfect circumstances.

Baenlin took a moment to exhale his anger, and began to gather and form the chakra as he inhaled the crisp, cold mountain air. Baenlin immediately began to feel the orb of chakra start to waver. Acting on instinct, Baenlin put his other hand above the shakey ball of chakra and began to add chakra from it as well. The particals of chakra began to adhere to each other as they collided, adding to the construct of the orb, allowing for Baenlin to focus more on the shaping of the jutsu. This all happened in about two seconds. The result had not been instantaneous, but it had been far more expedient than his previous attempts. Still, Baenlin was not pleased at the less than optimal result, nor did he expect his sensei to be.

If Ganki-sensei does not stop him, Baenlin will begin again immediately to go through the same process, this time starting with both hands rather than just one. The result will be instanteous, but Baenlin's reaction will still be displeased with not being able to do this with one hand as yet.

He watched as the determination within Baenlin grew, but not before he witnesses a bit of attitude from him. Yes, Ganki was harsh at first, but that was only because he wants to push Baenlin to success. People without bloodlines tend to have the backend of the stick, the lack of a special jutsu and such. This method of training would teach him that nothing comes easy without a little bit of work. But Ganki didn't say anything, he just watch him. Baenlin tried and tried again, until he performed it instantly, but with a twist. The only way Baenlin could do the task instantly was with two hands, two hands he thought. Ganki never imagined the rasengan being formed with two hands, is it really that difficult he asked himself? Nevertheless, Baenlin did what he was told, though he would need to work on it soon. Ganki dispelled the rasengan within his right palm, watching it disappear.

Ganki placed his right index finger on his left cheek side, with his thumb on the left. He thought for a moment, seeing if he was ready to use it. "Well, you can use it, if fact you did what I ask you to yeah. Though the two hand style I did not see that coming, we'll work on that...yeah." Ganki took a few steps back as he was now 2 meters away from Baenlin, it was not time to see if he could actually use it. Really, Baenlin learned the technique already; it was the formation of the technique that he wanted to work on, how fast he could make it. "Alright Baenlin, I want you to come at me, with the rasengan, and clash it into my rasengan." Ganki would make sure that his power outage of his rasengan was lower than the usual.

Now, Ganki waited till Baenlin came at him, with the test rasengan. "You already know it, just apply what you just learned and you will do fine yeah."

Baenlin was surprised at his sensei's reaction, as he seemed far more please than Baenlin. As he let the chakra dissipate, vowed to himself to become as familiar with this jutsu as he was to breathing. As he saw it, the chakra control involved was his greatest weakness, and he planned to attack that weakness head on, hardening his weakness until he could create something like this jutsu on a whim.
His teacher's observations seemed to coincide with his own, though Baenlin was hardly pay attention to what he said as introverted as he was at the time. In fact, he did not snap back to reality until he heard "Alright Baenlin, I want you to come at me, with the rasengan, and clash into my rasengan." This startled Baenlin for several reasons. As of yet, he had trained solo or with someone simply instructing him. Meeting someone in conflict with ninjutsu was going to be a new experience for him. Also, he saw that this could potentially be very dangerous. Never the less, Baenlin's excitement grew as he reached for the chakra inside of himself. His teacher's proclamation of "You already know it, just apply what you have just learned and you with do fine yeah." served only to bolster Baenlin. In that moment he felt as though he could take on the world, but he fought this emotion down as he had so many others so that he could focus.

After a quick nod to his sensei, Baenlin settled himself in a position to start a run and brought both hands around by his right waist. As he began to launch himself at Ganki, he simultaneously gathering his chakra between his hands and shaping it at the same time. If he actually stopped to think about all that he was doing at once, he probably would have lost control of his chakra and disappointed both himself and Ganki. Luckily, he didn't, as lost as he was in the moment, letting his body do as it would with his mind only telling it what it wanted as an end result. It only took a few steps to cover the small distance between Ganki and himself but Baenlin had the technique set and ready as he got near. He did not, however, see his sensei's rasengan out to aim at. Confident that Ganki would protect himself, began to thrust his hand forward as he would with a sword right at his sensei's mid-section. As his hands came apart, Baenlin twisted both in opposite directions, adding spin to the jutsu. Baenlin felt a rush of both excitement and fear as the jutsu successfully launched forward with his hand. "I hope to hell he protects himself..." Baenlin thought.

All it took for Ganki to react was a simple sign, a simple gesture that would signify a sense of readiness. Due to Ganki's speed, he could easily counter the attack that he wished for. As soon as he saw the nod, Ganki's right palm flourished with chakra immediately, as it spiraled into what would not be called a rasengan(powered at 43). He then quickly extended his hand towards Baenlin's Rasengan, but not before crouching down a bit to get more leveled with his height. All of these movements, these adjustments, took place within a blink of an eye. His rasengan clashing into the other, creating a loud sharp sound that echoed throughout the mountains. If all went well Ganki's hand, and possible Baenlin's own, would be facing each other.

Baenlin blinked to clear his eyes. He had not registered Ganki's hand actually moving from point A to B, but it seemed rather that the hand had decided to teleport itself to block Baenlin. More impressive still was that there was a full rasengan in it's palm. After the dust had settled, and a sound that Baenlin had never heard before faded from his ears, all that was left were Ganki and Baenlin looking as though they had posed in the middle of a high five at torso level.

There was no surprise or dissatisfaction at Ganki's counter to Baenlin's jutsu. In fact Baenlin was relieved that he had indeed countered it and not taken the blow just to prove a point. Baenlin half smiled at his teacher through the fingers of their outstretched hands, as satisfied with himself as he had ever been.
