Ranma's Academy Lessons
Fri Jun 21, 2013 9:55 am
It was an average tropical morning in the Volcano village and Ranma was just stirring in his bedroom. After getting up to have some pancakes he made for breakfast, he did his morning routine, gathered his school supplies, and was off for school. Unlike most of the students attending the academy, Ranma actually looked forward to having class. He would learn about many techniques that shinobi deploy on their missions and in combat, and sometimes there would be ninjas who would visit the class to speak about the jobs of their rank. This only excited Ranma more and he almost could not wait to become a Genin.
Arriving at class at just the right time, being not either too early or running late, Ranma took a seat by one of his academy friends. Ranma could tell he had not made it to bed at a reasonable time last night by the tired expression he gave. The boy greeted Ranma sluggishly and then they both turned toward the huge blackboard where the Chunin class teacher had already began writing more fundamentals for the students to learn.
Ranma took out his notebook and a pencil and started taking notes. Today the students were learning about a unique energy known as chakra. Ranma copied that in order to perform most jutsus, a ninja needed to combine both mental and physical energy in order to produce the chakra required for the technique. The board also had some interesting information on chakra natures. It said most ninja have one out of five basic natures that could be tested for using a special chakra infused paper. The eager student wondered what would happen to the paper if he were to put his chakra into it, but unfortunately the teacher explained as he continued writing on the board that chakra nature transformation was an advanced skill that most Genin do not even master yet.
The morning went by pretty smoothly with the good students taking notes and occasionally asking questions while the slackers dozing off and goofing off in the back of the classroom. The current teacher was much more calm when compared to the last teacher who threw kunai at the students' heads when they caused trouble by doing things such as throwing paper airplanes, making distasteful noises, and the like. When lunch time came the students practically raced out the doors to eat their packed lunch and Ranma did the same after poking his buddy to wake him up.
"Ahhh boobies," he said smiling while still half asleep.
"Woah, what were you dreaming about...never mind. Lunch break is here. I suggest you stay awake for the second half of the day because we do have our Genin exams soon!" Ranma warned his friend for his benefit. Even so, the boring part of the day for the most part was over. After lunch break the students would begin the fun half, or Ranma thought when they did their taijutsu and shuriken throwing practice.
Ranma hoped he could make a new school friend during lunch, and also wondered if some ninja would stop by during the break or help train the students when lunch was over. Walking with his friend to a shady tree outside, they sat down and started eating their packed lunches while having a nice conversation.

While nothing too eventful occurred during lunch, the students were still pepped to begin the second half of the academy day. When the teacher came outside to call the students back in Ranma hurriedly gathered his things together and went back inside along with his friend who luckily drank an energy drink during the lunch period.
"Okay kids to the track!" the Chunin instructor said after giving the kids a good twenty minutes of study time to digest their food.
Once outside the teacher instructed the students through warm-ups and stretches to prepare their bodies for the rigorous training that would be given at the Funkagakure Ninja Academy. After the stretches the students would begin running laps around the track for a total time of 45 minutes. Ranma made it his personal goal to keep going without stopping and he hoped that his friend would keep up as it was always great to have a support system during these training periods. After almost half of the running time was over it would become apparent which kids were in shape and those who were lazy in their training and did not stick to a healthy diet as instructed by the school. Ranma and his friend however, were still going strong although already starting to break a sweat partially due to the volcanic atmosphere in the village. Ramna's friend always did very well when it came to the second half of the day because he did better in his taijutsu training than on the academy test. They both talked while they ran to help passed the time and they mused about what kinds of dangerous tasks might they be doing once promoted to Genin. Ranma explained that there are not too many risky jobs at the low level yet because those jobs usually left to the higher ups. This only made Ranma's friend want to become a Chunin even faster as he seemed to get a fascinating thrill from peril.
Soon, the Chunin instructor called time, and the ninjas in training circled around the teacher while panting. He instructed the students that after a five minute water break the students would begin their taijutsu sparring. Ranma quickly downed a bottle of refreshing water from his backpack and by the time all the students came back out to the school training grounds the teacher began making pairs of students to fight. Much to Ranma's dismay, he was paired with a robust boy named Hario who was taller than he was and probably older as well. He quickly came back to himself and decided that he would do his best to win. Ranma gave a look to his friend who had been paired with what looked like an easier opponent, and they both gave each other a thumbs up. The couples began separating themselves from other groups and this is when the true combat training began.
"I hope I don't accidently break your body, Ranny-boy," the bulky Hario said tauntingly.
Ranma was undeterred and instead asked Hario to give it his all so they both get the most out of this training. After getting into the basic fighting stance taught at the academy Ranma waited to see what Hario could do.
Hario pulled back a muscular arm and threw a powerful punch that Ranma quickly dodged and counterattacked with a punch to Hario's stomach. Ranma was surprised when his opponent seemingly absorbed it with his abdominal muscles. Hario then grabbed Ranma's arm and in a display of great strength spun him around once and sent him flying a couple of meters away. Ranma landed on the ground but was nowhere near done yet. While Hario clearly surpassed Ranma in raw strength, Ranma could probably get the best of him with his speed and stamina. The resilient Ranma ran back toward Hario and engaged him in a barrage of punches and kicks. Hario was still able to hold his own blowing some of the speedy attacks and taking others. Hario threw a few attacks jabs himself but Ranma dodged them skillfully, barely escaping some.
The battle went on like this for a while and pretty soon both sides were getting tired. However, the teacher again called time and all the students had to stop fighting. Both Hario and Ranma wanted to continue sparring but instead decided that they would settle this another time. Ranma walked over to Hario and over to shake his hand and told him that he enjoyed the fight. Hario agreed and shook the smaller boy's hand.
The next part of the day went by very easy as Ranma was always great at shurikenjutsu and had great accuracy. When the school day was over Ranma went home with his things excited that he would be able to take the Genin exams soon and that he had another exciting day of school tomorrow.
