A Daimyo's Power

Tonight was the night of the festival that every person, both citizens and shinobi, looked forward to. It was time for the Fire Festival. It was quite a rare opportunities, as the Fire Festival comes once every five years. It was a tradition implemented just a few decades ago after Konoha’s involvement in a shinobi war. The festival would be filled with everything and anything one could think of. There would be food, games, and of course, a grand parade with floats and honorable mentions to those considered most valuable to the Land of Fire. To commemorate the tradition, the Fire country’s Daimyo would grace the parade with her participation. However, daimyo have great power and authority. With a feudal lord’s approval, a shinobi can climb the ranks. What’s more, an entire nation could go to war if a feudal lord gives the order, or is threatened to do so...

Koaru knew the stakes of his mission tonight. The daimyo’s mobile float was elegant and humbling in all its grandeur, ready to move out as soon the daimyo made her arrival. The daimyo entered the room and took her seat on the float. Koaru mounted the float and took a knee with respect to the daimyo. “I vow to protect you, oh beautiful daimyo-sama” he said with conviction. Though elderly, Koaru couldn’t make exceptions in regard to his nindo, which was to protect all the women of Konohagakure. The float commenced and the daimyo received a roar of praise. The loud sounds made it harder for Koaru to detect trouble, so he activated his Moringan for a better visual assessment of his surroundings. Now standing formally on the edge of the float, Koaru glanced at what seemed to be a disturbance in the crowd some 50 meters off. Koaru’s vision was comparable to a hawk thanks to his ability. A noisy Konoha genin burst through the crowd. He was rather large for a genin, who on average, were Koaru’s age. He leaped off the ground and was to land directly on the float before the daimyo. Koaru created a shadow clone, as it would take more than his own strength to subdue the brute. Together, the Koaru tripped the genin to make him land head first on the float. Both Koaru pinned an arm behind the ninja’s back. The original Koaru held a kunai to his nape while he explained his business.

“Daimyo sama! I just came to ask you to please promote me to chuunin! I’ve been a genin for 6 years!”

The daimyo and Koaru looked at eachother in befuddlement. If this guy had been a genin for that long, he was beyond even a feudal lord’s aid…
