One Step Closer (Makoto's Genin Exam)
Wed Jun 04, 2014 9:50 pm
I was a bright, warm, wednesday morning. The warm sun shined through Makoto's window and grazed his face. He woke up, and sat up in bed quickly. He was so excited for today that he ended up sleeping in longer than he wanted to. He quickly got out of bed and got dressed, then ran out of his house. Today was a special day for Makoto, and one that he'd been looking forward to since he joined the academy. It was the day he would get a chance to take the exam and become a Genin. He hadn't gotten much sleep last night because he was too excited to take the exam, its all he could think about all night. He ran as fast as he could towards the academy. He was running late, and that wouldn't look good, especially on one of the most important days of Makoto's life. He sped up as the villagers just looked at him in confusion. He could see the academy now, he was almost there. Makoto sped up just a little more. Finally reaching the academy, he ran towards his class and burst through the door. No one was there. Makoto blinked a few times looking around the dark empty room, then looked at the clock on the wall. He looked down and rubbed his eyes in stupidity, he had arrived an hour early.

Opening the doors to the room the silver haired proctor Seiren Tozaiya walked past the soon to be graduates of the Academy. Standing in front of the desk he would motion for one of the students to come and take their exams, the test ending quickly as he picked up his clipboard and gave a small sigh,"Makoto, it is your turn for the exam please step forward and perform the Henge no Jutsu and Bushin no Jutsu," smiling he would sit the clipboard down and await the young student to finish his exam.

Makoto sat in the back of the classroom waiting patiently for his name to be called. "Makoto, it is your turn to take the exam," Seiren sensei said, his voice echoing through the room. Makoto stepped towards the front of the class. "Please perform the Henge no Jutsu and Bushin no Jutsu," his instructor said smiling. Makoto was a bit nervous. The rest of the class had done fairly well and passed, but the thought of him not passing gave him an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He remained calm and bowed towards Seiren sensei.
First up was the Bunshin no Jutsu, the Clone Technique. The technique used to make a copy of ones self without any substance. It was the easier of the three basic ninjutsu Makoto needed to perform, and the one he was most confident in achieving. He relaxed and gathered his chakra, being careful not to use too much all at once. He felt a rush as his chakra quickly raced throughout his body. He quickly formed the hand signs, Ram-Snake-Tiger, and made a clone of himself. He kept his body relaxed to sustain his chakra and keep his clone around. He looked at his instructor who kept smiling, was he that impressed from a simple technique? Makoto looked behind him to examine his clone, his eyes widened a bit in surprise. He had accidentally created two identical clones of himself instead of just one. It must have just been a coincidence, or he was just too eager to perform his best. He had no intention for extra credit. Makoto felt a slight sense of relief, if he could do that what else was he capable of? He kept his clones around and prepared for the next part of the exam.
Next up was Kawarimi no Jutsu, the Substitution Technique. This technique was very important, even to the most experienced shinobi, and could change the outcome of a battle in an instant. The user replaces his or her body with another object, generally a log or other object of that sort, the moment an attack lands. It tricks the attacker into thinking that the attack was successful and gives the user a slight moment to make a counter attack. Makoto walked towards Seiren Sensei, his clones started to follow him, but he looked back and murmured "Stay." He approached his instructor and quietly asked, "May I borrow this?" He reached for a Kunai in Seiren's weapon pouch, not giving him time to answer he quickly swiped one of the sharp blades and walked back towards his clones. He gave the kunai to the clone on his right and said, "Throw it at me!" The clone hesitated a bit, then threw it at Makoto who had his back turned to the clone. Makoto quickly formed the hand signs, Tiger-Boar-Ox-Dog-Snake, in just enough time. The knife hit him and appeared to have deeply penetrated his back. Suddenly a puff of smoke appeared, then disappeared in an instant. The clone stood there in shock to see a log in the middle of the room. "Back here!," a familiar voice rang from the back of the classroom. Makoto stood up from his seat in the back with a large grin on his face. He then walked back up to the front of the classroom to continue his exam. As he was walking forward the clone that had thrown the kunai had vanished into thin air. Makoto was worried. He must have gotten too excited about performing that last technique and lost a bit of control of his chakra in the process. He didn't want to risk the chance of failing the exam because of a low chakra level so he made his other clone disappear as well to keep it safe. Finally returning to the front of the room, he took a deep breath in to prepare for the final part of the exam.
Last but not least was the Henge no Jutsu, the Transformation Technique. The hardest of the three, but one as useful as the Substitution Technique. It is used to take the form of any other person, animal, plants, and even inanimate objects such as puppets or weapons. It is useful in missions that deal with infiltrating or gathering intelligence on an enemy. Makoto had a deep fondness of this technique and spent most of his time and effort training with it. He spent a lot of time at the training grounds with his father practicing this technique. It would be a key jutsu if he were ever given the chance to become an ANBU member. He sharpened his focus and kept his chakra flow as steady as he possibly could, then formed the hand signs, Dog-Boar-Ram He kept his head focused on Seiren Sensei, hoping he could take his appearance. He quickly formed the hand signs, Dog-Boar-Ram, and with a small puff of smoke Makoto had taken the appearance of his instructor. He wasn't sure how well he did, but his confidence boosted as he saw the smile on Seiren's face. He looked over into the mirror and glanced at Seiren Sensei. Although it wasn't his instructor, it was himself. He had taken the exact appearance of Seiren, matching everything from the clothes he was wearing, to his silver hair. Makoto then looked back at his instructor who continued to smile at him. He canceled the jutsu and stood there patiently waiting to hear the results from Seiren Sensei.

Seeing that the ninja could perform the basic Academy Jutsu and did them within proficiency, the teacher would nod and clap before handing the boy a single leaf head band," Congratulation you passed your exams, now go on and become a valuable ninja for your village and protect those who you have sworn to protect," after handing the boy the head band, the teacher would usher him out so he could conduct the rest of the exams.

Makoto had done it. He had passed his Genin Exam, taking a large step closer to his dream. His instructor handed him his official Leaf Headband, and led him out of the room. Makoto jumped with joy as soon as the door closed behind him. He rushed out of the academy and into the streets of Konoha, sceaming at the top of his lungs in excitement, "I'VE BECOME A GENIN!" He started to run towards his house, then decided to head to the training grounds. What better way to celebrate, than more training??
