training for the genin exam!(nowhere near 20k lol)
Mon Sep 29, 2014 3:53 pm
Kotonaru walked through the village humming a tune. He was currently studying to become a genin of the great village Konoha. As a first time academy student, Kotonaru had only just learned what he needed to become a genin – he simply had to learn a couple of jutsu and show them to the instructor. If the jutsu he attempted looked reasonably ok, he would get a promotion, simple as that. He was excited at this opportunity to prove himself, the exam would be soon, he needed to get reading and practicing so that he would not fall behind the others. Of course, he had heard that the powerful Naruto Uzumaki had failed the academy test multiple times, at least 3 he thought, but that did not stop him from ultimately earning respect and gaining a huge amount of power later on. Unlike Naruto though, Kotonaru could focus long enough to actually get decent practice in, on his own, without additional stimulus, or getting badly beaten in a fight. He had a goal he needed to achieve, he was not sure what it would look like when he got there, but he would know if he did. For now, he needed to get back to things, as becoming a genin was the first goal he had set for himself after joining the academy.
Kotonaru considered his various bits of scattered knowledge here and there. He decided that while the academy instructors had given an overview of each of the two jutsu he would need to know later for the exam, among other things, he did not know that much else about the jutsus. He would head first to the library to try to gain a better understanding of these two fundamental jutsu. Otherwise he would have trouble creating his own jutsu later. The only issue here being that Kotonaru knew of a library but not where it was. He carefully walked through the village, asking other people, until someone gave him accurate directions to the building. An impressive looking wooden building stood in front of him. Opening the door, he was knocked over by a skinny young man with spiky hair. His fast tongue was blabbing the whole time as he ran off, on faster legs, as Kotonaru stared at the retreating figure. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he got up, dusted himself off, and walked into the library.
Looking around the library, there were sections for all kinds of books, even a restricted access section that contained various kinjutsu apparently. He just needed some basic ninja techniques though. Conveniently that was the section nearest the door. He walked in there, and bumped into… something in the aisle. Confused, he put his hands out and felt something that felt like… clothing. He poked it, and a person appeared out of nowhere, falling to the ground. He looked stunned, until the person clutching at their stomach explained that he had been using the transformation technique. This proved interesting. Kotonaru was eventually left to his own devices, and he pulled out a couple of small books by reputable authors, one each for each of the jutsu he was trying to learn. Apparently skill with the ninja arts did not necessarily extend to that of the fine arts, at least not all the time. That was ok, he had some time still. He put both the books back, as they were written by the same author. Nosing around through different books he eventually found a couple that gave much clearer instructions and explanations. These would prove much more useful than the others he had tried….
Sitting in a quiet section of the building, he decided to try one of the jutsu out. He stood up, placing the book on a table where he could still see it. Then he made the handsigns, slowly and carefully, checking that he had them in the correct order… Ram hand sign, followed by the Snake and Tiger. He made sure to manipulate his chakra correctly… and poof! A clone popped out of nowhere, except that… it did not look like Kotonaru, or, frankly, like anything except a blob. Well, at least he had made something. He would try again. Rereading the book carefully, he noticed that he needed to at least briefly visualize what he was forming with the chakra he used. Well, that made sense. Shifting to one side to let another person by, he gave it another try. Ram… Snake… Tiger… while trying to form the chakra into a likeness of himself. Poof, another chakra thingy popped into existence, this time resembling himself. Cool. He would try for a second while he was at it. He made the handsigns again, this time focusing on making 2 clones. Poof! He looked at the clones. They looked quite a lot like he did, he had gotten the clothes wrong, and the hair a little but that was a lot closer since everything else was correct. It just looked weird making clones out of thin air wearing pajamas. He smiled a little, maybe he needed a little nap later. He gave it a few more tries, the first time succeeding, the others for practice when he would show the instructors his hopefully speedy progress.
Well, it seemed that he had practiced the first jutsu enough for now. It was time to practice the transformation jutsu. This seemed to actually be a similar idea to the clone jutsu, since you could think of this as overlaying a clone with a different look over the user. With that in mind this jutsu should not be too hard. He put the first book away and then opened the other book to the page showing the hand seals. He did them, paying careful attention… Dog… Boar… Ram handsign again. Manipulating his chakra, he attempted to change his appearance. Wait, he had not visualized properly when he did the clone jutsu before… and he had not this time neither. He memorized the handseals and walked into the bathroom to use the mirror. Imagining one of the bandits that had wiped out his branch of the Uchiha clan, he did the handseals again, manipulating the chakra… and poof! A rather suspicious man in black, wearing a bandanna over his nose looked Kotonaru in the eye from across the mirror. He started, as did the man in the mirror. The transformation undid suddenly, and Kotonaru was looking himself in the eye again. He burst out laughing. He had done the transformation so well that he had fooled himself for a second.
