Becoming Genin Pt 3 (The Exam)

Jason walks down the hallway of the Kumogakure ninja academy. He's spent the past four days training and practicing his jutsu for this moment. The moment that he gets his headband and becomes a true ninja.

"You know this. You've mastered the techniques." He whispers to himself. "No problem."

Jason straightens his back and stands tall and confident. His face is stoic and emotionless. His visual expressions are only on the inside.

He places his hand on the door knob. In his head, he counts down. "Three... two..." Jason opens the door and slowly walks to the center of the room.

"Kakashi." That's the single word he continues to repeat in his head to keep himself sane. The name carries assurance for him as Kakashi Hatake is his only successful transformation so far. That is, as long as he doesn't lift up the Konoha headband covering his "sharingan".

Deep breath.

The examiner entered the room carefully, her cautious eyes flicking this way an that. People told her she was the lucky one, that of the upheaval and then reformation Kumo had gone though, her life was the one relatively unaltered. Then why did she feel as though she was playing at living rather than living? Why was it that wherever she went, eyes followed her but vanished the moment she turned her head? She had learned to deal with it though, deal with it by keeping her head down and never asking any questions lest she end up on a pike in the fields too. No, the only questions she now asked were of her students, and only standard ones at that.

"Mr. Hyuga, please explain and perform the transformation and clone jutsu to the best of your knowledge," she mumbled, not meeting the new candidate's gaze.

"Getting right into it huh?" He thinks. "No problem. The sooner I get this over with, the better."

Jason cups his hands together with his two pointer fingers erect while the others were curled around the trenches between the fingers of the opposite hand.

"I hope the order doesn't matter. I'm going with the clone jutsu first." Jason concentrates his chakra and closes his eyes just as he did during his training. In his mind, he visualizes a first body, him. When he;s ready, he begins to create the clone replica. It fades into visibility, not completely solid yet, moving away from its source, the original Jason. Taking extreme care, though it isn't needed as he's just visualizing, he makes sure that the two ninja are exactly alike. They share the same features all around.

"Final touch..." Jason whispers in his head. The original depiction of himself and the clone made from that body turn to face each other. They put their right hands out at the same time and shake. A smile forms across their faces and the expression materializes on the physical Jason as well.

Exerting his built up chakra, Jason focuses it on the open space next to him and creates the clone to his right. A puff of white smoke fills that area and it dissipates as the clone is seen from the clearing steam. Jason takes a deep breath before turning his head to see his identical clone, which mirrors the original Jason's movements perfectly so that they both turn. They both nod. They both smile. They both relax feeling great satisfaction at success.

But only the clone poofs into oblivion. Jason is brought back to reality and the joy dies down. He focuses once more, gathering chakra for his transformation jutsu. He remembers his practice from yesterday, reviewing his steps over and over again. Keeping things simple, he goes for mimicking Kakashi Hatake once more for this exam.

“Now for the transformation jutsu. I’m, going to become Kakashi Hatake, son of the white fang of the hidden leaf and sixth Hokage.” Jason explains. Of course, he understood that the examiner knew these things already. He makes it known who he’s transforming into to know whether or not the examiner is still paying attention.

“She didn’t make any eye contact before. I hope she’s still focused.” He wonders.

Jason begins his transformation jutsu using the same strategy as last time. “No clone, that’s unnecessary.” He tells himself, “Start from the feet and be gradual. You’ll be done in no time.”

Kakashi and only Kakashi. Slowly, he thinks of his body as a loading screen, focusing only on getting every inch of his outer body to resemble Kakashi’s. Beginning at his feet, he rises to his knees and to his hips all the while changing his original body as he goes. His plan is to finalize the image of Kakashi under his physical self and use chakra to cover his surface and take Kakashi’s form when he’s finished “loading” his image onto himself.

From his hips, he rises to his mid torso and then to his shoulders, finishing Kakashi’s green shinobi vest and blue long sleeve jacket underneath. On to the blue covering over his neck, chin, and… well everywhere under his nose. The rest of his head is finished rather quickly but Jason pays special attention to his hair and it’s attributes.

He focuses, feeling his entire body infused with chakra, and has it form into the image of Kakashi in his head in one burst of white smoke. Within it, he feels the vest form over him. One of his eyes closes under the cloth of the headgear.

As the smoke clears, Jason looks himself over to make sure he really has done well in his transformation. “As long as she doesn’t ask me to lift my headband I’m fine.” He tells himself. The green vest is correct. The blue under-jacket is perfect. He can even feel the red spiral on the back of his ninja vest, though he doesn’t know entirely if it is red. His legs are identical to Kakashi Hatake’s and he’s matched the sandals as well. “Looking good, looking good.” Jason assures himself. “No need to worry, not at all. Genin, here I come…”

The white smoke thins and reveals the image of the shinobi, Kakashi.

“Everything seems to be in order.” Jason says, triumphant. “How do you like it?” He makes a tiger seal with his hands, mimicking a jutsu that Kakashi might do. He ventures even to place his hand on the left side of his Konoha headband but doesn’t lift it.

Leaving that danger zone, he lets go of his chakra and transforms back into his original form. Good ol’ Jason Hyuuga.

“Clone jutsu and transformation jutsu. There they are.” He stands straight once more, awaiting his examiner’s approval.

"Well done," the examiner praised. Had times been different she would have shook his hand, asked if he needed any help or if he needed anything else before leaving. But it was clear kindness had no place in this new Kumo.

"Good luck," she simply stated, handing him his headband. "I hope to see you well." And not on a pike somewhere.
