Re: Round 2: Princess Hunting [Mission]

Soundlessly descending into the dimly lit vault, Lucian calmed his breathing. A missed auditory cue at this point in the mission could very well end in a slit throat and the young monk did not much like the idea of bleeding out as a result of heavy breathing. Yet, as if to spite him, a distant clap of thunder from the still raging storm set his heart pounding like a jackhammer. It was no easy feat knowing that you could be walking into the waiting jaws of death, but the chuunin pushed on until he reached the bottom of the deceptively long stairwell.
The smell of stale alcohol stung his nose as he cast his gaze around the small cellar. Lit by candles and lined with every manner of barrel from short and fat to long and tall, the room felt strangely claustrophobic. However, more important than its size was the distinct lack of Meryn, Kanzaki or even the priest for that matter. Puzzled, Lucian walked the perimeter of room glancing lazily at the years on each of barrels. Not all that knowledgeable in the art of fermentation the Nazar could not help but be slightly impressed at some of the older vintages.
Did that altar boy lie to me? No, he seemed so sincere. I must be missing something...something...
Glancing back at the far wall of barrels it hit him. There was something. Something was off, it was a slight inconsistency, but worth checking. Anything was worth checking at this point with the clock ever counting down. One of the barrels, a long tall one, was slightly askew. Upon further investigation, he found that it was actually empty, which was odd to say the least. Why keep an empty barrel down here?
Unless!
Though empty the barrel was still quite heavy, but with considerable work he pulled it from its place against the wall. Removing a candle from its place on the wall Lucian peered into the void behind the barrel. A false wall? No, not a false wall, a doorway. Standing about five and a half feet tall the frame of the rusted iron door seemed out of place in a room of wood and wine. What was more was that a slight draft came from the now unobstructed door.
Not missing a beat and clutching the candle close to his body, Lucian pulled open the door only to be met with the caustic smell of mildew, decay and freshly turned soil. Taking a deep breath he ducked through the door and into the waiting abyss. The only way now was forward and into the darkness. What was that saying about the shadow of death?
At first, the walls of the tunnel were almost too close and could probably only accommodate a single person's passage. Luckily, as he walked further down the walls opened up and the ceiling rose. Unluckily, the walls, once lined with stone, were now supported by skulls of what could only be humans. Perhaps were he not on a life or death mission the chuunin would have stopped and marveled at what he was seeing for it was quite the historical find considering he had never read about such a mausoleum existing beneath Hoshigakure.
For another time, I suppose...
After walking for what felt like an hour, but was probably closer to half that Lucian saw light at the end of the tunnel. Fanning out from the cracks in an uncannily familiar iron door, the light sent long shadows down the tunnel. Discarding his candle and once again gripping his Shakujo in his dominant hand Lucian made his way to the door. Steeling his nerves with a deep breath the monk pulled open the mercifully quiet door and stepped into a cellar not unlike the one he had been in before.
Whoever had come through before had not bothered to replace the barrel making Lucian's task much easier. Surprisingly the cellar itself was empty meaning the only way forward was now up into the light. Funny how that works, no? As he made his way to the ominously darkened steps Lucian took care to actively expand his chakra senses outwards to confirm that there were two chakra signatures in the building above. Who they belonged to? Truthfully, he couldn't say, but one signature was far above normal and the other flickering like a flame about to be snuffed out. Time would now tell as to the true identity of the chakra sources.
The stairway from the cellar was quickly traversed and the door at the top pushed effortlessly aside. Leaning his shakujo against the wall next to the door he moved onward, no need for deception any longer. With the door to the cellar only a few steps behind him Lucian stopped at the entrance to a vast atrium of what appeared to be the sister church of the one he had initially investigated. The time had come to abandon stealth in favor of shock. The beauty of shock lay in the fact that one could train all their life and still be incapacitated by it like anyone else. Ser Meryn would soon know the cold grip of shock before his embrace with the reaper. Such was the nature of the task Lucian had been given and such was the mission he would now complete to the letter.
"Meryn Kent!"

The Captain had almost dozed off by the time Lucian arrived to disturb his peace. There as a beauty to the scene he now dominate, beauty in the justice he was about to deliver to his believed Queendom. The little Queen was secure, the imposer foreign princess in shambles, shinobi would soon be a distant memory in Haven and Ser Meryn would be the hero no one knew brought this country to that utopia. But the old Captain did none of it for the glory, he did it because it was what needed to be done.
At the sound of his name, his name wrongly said, the knight opened his eyes slowly, his alertness already showing in the tensing of his muscles. A quick gaze to Her Grace Kanzaki showed that she was still peacefully asleep, another to the newcomer showed that it was just another bold monk. "Ah yes, I would like another flagon of mead," he announced lazily. It was probably the alter boy of this particular building. Motioning to the sleeping child, he added "I'm afraid my daughter has quite exhausted herself. Perhaps some warm milk for her when she wakes up?"
Even as he spoke, his shrewd eyes studied the alter boy. With no semblance of refined chakra sensory available to the knight, he could only crudely assess shinobi and the more Meryn observed him, the more it seemed this boy was affiliated with the dark arts. But was he simply an alter boy who learned ninja magic in his free time or was he something more? The Captain rose to his feet, towering over the boy, letting him know without words that he could be easily disposed of.
"I suggest you find that mead and milk fast, son."

Meryn may have seemed imposing to the common rank and file of Hoshigakure or the inexperienced. However, Lucian was neither common nor inexperienced. At his core, he was born of a land that abhorred life and devoured the weak, a son of Funkagakure. Hell, Meryn did not look nearly as threatening as Taios when the monk first met him. That said, there was a certain discipline in the man's movements despite having, apparently, already downed a flagon of mead. Yes, he could respect the captain as a combatant but never fear him.
"Excuse me, sir, I was unaware of your blood relation to Princess Kanzaki," Lucian said with a thin knowing smile as if to say 'I see through you'.
The Nazar boy did not follow up directly on his statement. Rather he allowed it to ring through the atrium and hang in the air more like a threat than an apology. Better to give Meryn a moment to process, but no more than a moment.
"Now, Meryn, you are hereby stripped of all your titles and shall accompany me to the palace where you will stand on trial as a traitor to your country and queen." A slight pause for comprehension as he left off the obvious conclusion of said trial, execution. "Understood?"
This might have been the point where Lucian should have held up Tehniyat's locket to assert his authority. However, the chuunin was not one for drama nor did he much like the idea of encumbering himself in the face of the enemy. Sure, Meryn stood across the atrium from him, but distances were easily covered, too quickly as was often the case. No, now was time to see Meryn's resolve. Would he cave or crack?

As soon as the first words were out of the young man's mouth, the Captain was already on the move. his eyes had been alert ever since the crude detection of some ninja magic in the boy but when the ninja grew too cocky, going as far as to admit he knew who the sleeping child was, Ser Meryn was ready. His visage had already begun to glow a sickly scarlet as he reached out to the newcomer a few feet away. Sure, Ser Meryn stood across the atrium from him, but distances were easily covered, too quickly as was often the case.
There was enough distance between this ninja and the stone wall for his body to crash resoundingly into the unforgiving rock, bashing in his soft skull. Sure, Meryn stood across the atrium from him, but distances were easily covered, too quickly as was often the case.
The challenge would be doing it without waking up the Queen.
Letting out a snarl, the knight proceeded to punch the boy in a flurry of strikes, one after the other, his speed drastically increased. Should the hits land, not only would all the bones in the foul ninja's torso be shattered but the last punch would make him fly off his feet and into the wall to meet his untimely death. Even if the fling and punches didn't kill him, the purely malicious Aura around the Captain would wilt the muscular structure of the male.
The purge of these vermin who called themselves ninja would start today, with this man who pretended to be one of their own but clearly had sympathies witht he enemy. And the only thing Ser Meryn hated more than shinobi, were natives who became shinobi.

The boy's words were quite abruptly cut short by the sudden movement of Meryn who stood a few feet away. Of course, when we say 'a few' we refer to the distance across the vast atrium of the church with Lucian on one side and Meryn on the other putting the distance between the two at 10 meters or, as some people like to call it, a few feet. The former captain of the Queensguard also took the most direct path to Lucian possible, a beeline if you will. Such a path brought him through the stone pews of the congregation with one on either side of him standing three and a half feet tall while having a meter between them. Of course, what worried the chuunin most of all was the alarming quickness of the man's approach, 50.
Not one to stand idle Lucian's mind scrambled for a response. Moving in time with Meryn, he wove a pair of hand seals and brought the tiger hand seal to his mouth so as to release an orb of brilliant flame two meters in diameter at his oncoming assailant. The orb itself would cast near demonic shadows on the walls as it hurtled towards its target. Centered on the approaching Meryn and flying roughly half a foot off the ground it would hopefully stop him in his tracks and end this engagement with ease. After all, with the pews still boxing him in for another four meters and Lucian five meters away his movements would be very limited when the orb impacted him at the aforementioned point. Furthermore, the orb was cast in such a way that if Meryn did dodge it would slam harmlessly into the wall behind him causing the building to shake a bit, but nothing more. Even Kanzaki would be safe. Of course, what the naive Nazar boy did not know was how easily Meryn could shrug off such an attack. At worst the smell of singed hair would fill the atrium with surprising quickness. It was a shame how little the boy knew of the former captain's abilities.

As Meryn began to move, so did Lucian. Due to the layout of the church and hitherto unseen obstacles described by the monk-ninja, Meryn's route would be impeded slightly but that mattered little to Captain of the Queensguard. He had the Gods on his side, he was inside a church and this was a boy with unholy ninja magic. The confrontation would be dramatic and poetic had the old knight not been bent on getting rid o the boy first and seek flair and theatrics in the situation later.
As soon as the orb of fire blossomed on Lucian's lips, Meryn changed tactics, engaging in a Technique all Queensgaurd held sacred, the ninja equivalent of (normal nit Tai) shunshin. Simply blurring in motion, the man easily avoided the line of fire sent his way and appeared once again behind Lucian, almost two feet behind. Should Lucian not be able to react to Ser Meryn manifesting in such a manner, the red aura would ouch the boy, immediately beginning to destroy his body. All Ser Meryn would have to do would be to stand next to the boy for him to simply crumble away to nothing.
But that wasn't the old knight's style. if he did manage to get this close, he would be sure to execute the flurry of punches he had originally planned to execute. Might as well break a few bones before they were weakened further and dissolved to nothing by the malicious red aura.

Unfortunately for Meryn the gods were truly on Lucian's side that evening for the chuunin was not one to put all his eggs in one basket. No, for the moment the orb of fire left his mouth, and thereby obscured his form from view, his right hand slipped back to the pillar behind him while his left hand made the seal of confrontation. The fight was already over and Meryn's moving closer only accelerated this story towards its inevitable conclusion.
Certainly, Meryn was quick, but not quick enough for Lucian to lose him with his chakra senses. Not nearly fast enough to turn around it would appear as if Lucian was finished. He was done. Nothing could save him. Absolutely nothing. Meryn's pair of punches came at the same time. Both would hit Lucian squarely in the back shattering bones and rendering the boy in a sorry state. Furthermore, before the two fists impacted much of the skin on the back of Lucian would begin to flake off as if exposed to a high dose of radiation.
Yes, Lucian was truly done for. Or, well, he would have been had he not summoned Delito in front of the pillar to his right. Of course, Meryn would be unable to see the puppet as a result of his perspective and by the time he did momentum would be his undoing.
The puppet had been manipulated in such a way that as Meryn maneuvered towards Lucian he would be unable to see it as Delito skirted around the pillar it had been summoned against. The most warning Meryn would have was a flicker of motion in his peripheral vision, but by that time the puppet was in motion and whirring like a chainsaw while he had already launched his unorthodox two-fisted attack. So, Meryn's fists- one foot from Lucian-would soon find they lacked a body as Meryn was quite literally body slammed by the chainsaw that was Delito. His body would be eviscerated in an instant offering little chance to heal or defend with his head being the first to go. The fight was over and all Lucian had suffered was a severe blistering of the back, because he, of course, as Delito attacked took a few steps forward and out of the aura.

Re: Round 2: Princess Hunting [Mission]

In the end, it came down to ninja magic, plain and simple. These shinobi were vile creatures harnessing the power of the devil while Ser Meryn had always been a soldier of God and protector of the Queens. He had served Queen Shiera as a young lad and had sworn fealty to Princess Lissandra before her untimely death. He would have served Queen Kanzaki faithfully too and despite his views on Princess Tehniyat, he had protected her. Yes, Ser Meryn had always done his duty with honor.
So when instead of his punches meeting pliant, yielding skin were instead absorbed by sharp, hard metal, Ser Meryn knew what had happened. This boy had summoned an evil guardian to aid him in his unholy quest. And still the knight continued, because what was a soldier of God if he backed away from a fight with hell? As the loud sounds of the puppet tearing through his flesh rang around the church, there was a dimmer sound beneath, the sound of at least part of the puppet breaking too against Meryn's initial strong strikes. He may go but there was no way Ser Meryn Trant, Captain of the Queensguard, Protector of the Realm and Knight of Her Grace's court would go without leaving his mark.
The last thing the old knight heard over the whirring of the monster's saws was the screaming of the young Queen... and he hoped that his death would cement in the child the evil these shinobi were capable of. In the end, his life was not as important as the future of this country he served.
Outside the church, the pitter patter of rain finally stopped, leaving the world eerily silent.

The halfling heiress of sorts lay on the floor, wrapped up in a blanket with her platinum blonde tresses messily spreaded out across the surface she was upon. She slowly but surely shifted about from the sounds that'd surely emit from the battle going on in close proximity. She wrinkled her nose and squinted her eyes even more shut as her conscious slowly came to be. Her petite little frame started to raise up from the blanket, allowing it to fall free as she rubbed her eyes to clear up her blurred vision. Kanzaki groaned softly from the constant resonance of sounds nearby.
The last rumble of thunder shook her into more of an awakened state, her wide, cinnamon-colored orbs seeming to only widen more as she seemed to clear up her sights just in time to watch in horror as Meryn was brutally finished off by what looked like a nightmare. Immediately, her body tensed up and she backed away, pinning herself against the wall with a horrified expression. She gasped, staring with big, quivering orbs, as she let out a terrified, blood-curdling scream of horror. The Senju pulled her legs to her chest, shoving her arms around her ankles and hugging herself closely.
Kanzaki's face was buried into her upper legs as she kept still, with the exception of that constant shudder of hers. Clearly she was afraid, shooken up and confused by this all.a

The Senju pulled her legs to her chest, shoving her arms around her ankles and hugging herself closely.
Kanzaki's face was buried into her upper legs as she kept still, with the exception of that constant shudder of hers. Clearly she was afraid, shooken up and confused by this all.a

The meeting of flesh and steel is a forgone conclusion. Ninety-nine times out of one hundred steel wins and the one time it does not flesh does not walk away unmarred. With the back of his tunic eaten away along with much of the skin underneath, Lucian could not help but wince. He winced at the pain, but more so he winced at the hot splatter of blood splattering across his raw back. And then there was the noise. The noise of flesh, bone and grey matter yielding in the most gruesome process possible. Everything hurt.
Perhaps someone had screamed, Lucian couldn't tell. His whole body was shaking. He knew what had happened and what he had done. Now, he had to see it through. There was a job yet to be done and though every bit of common sense told him not to turn around he did.
Glupping down the bile that eagerly jumped up his throat, the chuunin stared to the mound of flesh that had once been Meryn. There was nothing left. Delito's damaged chassis was the least of his worries. Releasing his chakra threads what was left of the puppet ceased its mechanical whirring and a true quiet then ruled the night.
Turning to where Kanzaki was, the Nazar took one step forward before stopping. He stopped, glanced over his shoulder at Meryn again and then looked at the ground. The next thing he knew his dinner was sitting in a puddle next to him. If a real shinobi could kill without a twinge of conscience then Lucian was not a shinobi. Hell, he was still a boy.
Composing himself with a breath he then lumbered over to Kanzaki trying his best to not limp, but the blisters on his back made it impossible. He would no doubt need medical attention. However, all that could come later. Kanzaki had to be dealt with as sensitively as possible.
"Princess Kanzaki," Lucian cooed attempting to coax the girl out of her emotional shutdown. "Princess Kanzaki, I mean you no harm. Tehniyat sent me, you are safe."
In hopes of proving his point, the monk loosely held out the locket he had been given. Such a locket could open many a door and break down countless barriers. Right now all Lucian wanted to do was to get through to Kanzaki and return her to the palace.
