D Rank Mission: Helping at the Academy
Senshi smiled, as he headed to the mission desk, his very first mission as a shinobi had gone off without a hitch and he had spent the last two days studying and training to improve himself. As he headed to the academy he let his mind wander a bit as his hands brushed against the two new weapons pouches he wore on his thighs. He didn’t have many weapons yet but the few he did have he treasured by sharpening and polishing them regularly. As he arrived at the mission desk he waited in the short line before stepping up to the Chuunin manning it, making a notation that this one was different from a few days ago. He braced to attention before speaking. “Genin Kobayashi Senshi, reporting for a D Rank mission Sir.” The man eyed him up and down for several seconds before looking at the scrolls on his desk. As he did so he noted that one had the red band of needing immediate attention. Picking it up he perused its contents quickly before glancing at the boy and assessing him again. Shrugging the Chuunin pushed the scroll to the end of the desk lazily before speaking. “Here, this needs immediate completion. It’ll take about four hours to complete, report back here when you’re done.” Senshi nodded grabbing the scroll and pocketing it before bracing to attention again, raising his right arm in a fist to his left shoulder briefly before moving to the outside of the building. He stopped in an out of the way place before opening the green, red rimmed scroll and reading its contents. A flash of surprise went through his features before he schooled them back into implacability. He was to report to the second year academy class, where he would be tasked with teaching them the Rope Escape Technique and then lead them through a demonstration on ranged weapons. Nodding to himself Senshi pocketed the scroll before taking off to the academy, class there started if fifteen minuets and he didn’t want to be late. As soon as he arrived he guided himself to where he knew the teachers met before class and knocked on the door. As a Chuunin opened it glowering at him briefly before he noticed the head band on his head, Senshi put himself at attention before speaking. “Sir, Genin Kobayashi Senshi, reporting for the D rank Mission to teach the second year class.” The man eyed him up several seconds before a look of recognition crossed his features. “Ahhh, you just graduated with the recent class, I’m surprised they gave you this mission. It’s classroom 307, Chuunin Yuri Hachimon is in charge and will brief you further.” Senshi nodded before saluting the Chuunin respectfully and thanking him before heading down the hall towards the classroom. He could hear the Chuunin speaking inside briefing the students on their daily activities. Taking a deep breath he knocked on the door before opening it and stepping inside. Out of the corner of his eye he surveyed the thirty one students in the class for several moments before transitioning his attention to the instructor. Bracing to attention he spoke once again, “Sir, Genin Kobayashi Senshi reporting for the D rank mission you requested.” Yet again this Chuunin eyed the Genin before him critically, he recalled seeing the boy around the academy a few weeks ago so surmised he was part of the newly graduated, which was vaguely surprising that they would send him here to teach at the academy. At least he looked older than he probably was and most of the students in this class were nine anyways. “Ah, come over here Genin Kobayashi. Class as I was saying before, today one of the Villages Genin will be going over the Rope Escape Technique, and then demonstrating some Weapons skills that are above Academy level so that you know what is expected of you later on. You will respect him as a higher ranking person, and if I hear of any trouble making there will be punishments distributed out to all of you. Is that clear students?” The class immediately uttered back an enthusiastic, positive response. Senshi was mildly surprised at how disciplined they all seem but quickly pushed it out of his mind as the Chuunin nodded to him before moving off to the side. Before he could move however, Senshi gave him a respectful nod and salute before replacing him at the podium. He knew that the Chuunin would be supervising him and writing his own report on how the boy did. “Hello Students, as you hear my name is Genin Kobayashi Senshi. First we will conduct training in the Rope Escape technique. Pair into teams of two, the odd man out come up here, we will give a demonstration before you each begin using the technique.” As the students quickly moved, pairing up together Senshi turned to the confident girl that had walked up to him. Giving her a brief nod of recognition he continued speaking. “First the most important thing is understanding how the Rope Escape technique works. You are using your chakra in a very similar way to chakra threads that Puppeteers use, though not nearly as capable as them. You will need to focus your chakra and them release it through several tenketsu in your arms, from there you will manipulate it to surround the ropes around you. You will need to diligently visualize how you want you chakra to move so that it can loosen your bindings.” Pausing Senshi glanced around the class ensuring they were all writing what he was saying down. He could see several students whispering to each other but saw no need to reprimand them just yet. “Contrary to popular belief, the chakra does not actually untie the knots of the ropes secured around you. Instead it loosens them so that you have more range of movement with your body. You will then need to manually remove the rest of your bindings. Student, use the standard capture method to tie me up and I will demonstrate the technique for you.” The girl nodded as Senshi sat on the floor allowing her to use the ropes that the Chuunin had provided and passed out while he spoke to tie him up. He noted as she did so that she was less than diligent in securing certain areas. He didn’t actually need to technique to escape with her slightly shoddy method, but knew he needed to demonstrate it later. He made a note to speak to her about it, or at least place it into his report before she finally stepped back voicing that she was done. Nodding Senshi delved into his chakra pulling it forth and the pushing it against the bindings around him. He then visualized it wrapping around the ropes and gave a tug, quickly all the ropes suddenly fell from his body and he stood up. “As you see most of it is mental work, now begin practicing with each other. I will come around and coach as necessary.” Turning to the girl he eyed her severely before speaking, “Make a note to go over the proper ways to secure knots and prisoner’s student. Now sit down and I will properly secure you and show you how to do it.” She flushed in embarrassment as he knelt nad began tying her up explaining as he went along what he was doing, how he was doing it, and why it had to be done that way. When he had finished he sat back and watched as she drew on her chakra and attempted the technique. He offered a few words of advice before making his rounds around the classroom doing the same for all the students. After an hour of practice he called a halt to the class and had them begin cleaning up to ready to head to the weapons range. By the time they had finished Just over half the class was performing the technique to acceptable levels while the rest had shown decent progress in completing it. As he led them on a jog to the weapons range Senshi went over the Shadow Shuriken technique in his mind. It was one of the simpler weapons techniques but would be just neat enough to keep their attention. Once they arrived he stood before the weapons targets and began speaking again. “All right Students, what I will be demonstrating and then practicing with you all is a D rank technique known as the Shadow Shuriken technique. You use two shuriken or even kunai and throw them quickly. It will appear as though you have thrown both a the same time however what truly happens is that you off set your throws by a few seconds so that the second weapon will be hidden within the shadow of the first. This makes it exceptionally difficult for shinobi to notice the second weapon and gives you a better chance at scoring a hit on the enemy. Unfortunately the technique requires a decent amount of skill, because you muse throw both weapons on the exact same trajectory while also calculating how the sun will cast the first weapons shadow. This usually results in novice users having terrible accuracy with the second weapon.” Senshi paused again in his explanation, pleased to see that each of the students was diligently copying down what he was saying. The Chuunin was eyeing him speculatively but Senshi tried to push this thought out of his mind focusing back in on his task. He mentally reviewed all the scrolls he had read on the technique before he began speaking again. “You can either quick draw and throw the weapons with one hand or you can alternate hands if you have been practicing enough with them. Personally I prefer to quick draw with one hand, its far more effective and harder for an enemy to see you throw both. It is however far more difficult to do it this way, since you must master drawing two weapons at the same time and then releasing only one at a time. It requires a great deal of speed to master it this way, but is far more effective. Now for the demonstration, watch as the first iteration I will do at my best speed and the second I will do at half speed, while the third I will move in slow motion. I will throw four shuriken and four kunai in each iteration.” Senshi abruptly stopped speaking before moving to the line to throw. Taking a deep breath he centered himself and quietly visualized how he knew the technique to work. Weapons were his specialty and this would be the first time he had a chance to really show off his skills to someone, plus be evaluated by the Chuunin. He knew the report would end up in his official shinobi dossier and if he ever made Jounin one day would be a consideration in his ability to be a Jounin-Sensei. He pushed the thoughts away and allowed himself to feel the calm he always felt when he was practicing with his weapons. Suddenly both his hands blurred into his pockets, his right drawing two shuriken and his left drawing two Kunai he alternated his throws so that both weapons left his hands slightly after the other and then their fellow followed moving underneath their shadow almost perfectly. He could see a slight difference where they traveled as he had not been quite fast enough. Frowning at that he quickly moved again throwing the second set. Looking at his targets he was displeased to note that while the first weapon he threw was on target the one that had followed in its shadow was off target. At least they had all still hit, but regardless they weren’t quite where he was aiming at and that was unacceptable. Shaking the thoughts off he retrieved his weapons before returning to the starting line and repeating the process only this time slowing himself down to half speed. It allowed him to think through his actions more and take more time not only aiming at the target but also in correctly judging where the sun would place the other weapons shadow. He quickly released all his weapons, pleased to note how much closer to being on target he was. This time he had even managed to correctly hide them within each others shadow. Once again retrieving his weapons, he repeated his actions at a quarter speed. This time he couldn’t find much fault in how he had performed other than being slightly annoyed with how slow he was moving. He knew it was not only important for his own training, as it would develop muscle memory, but also for the Students to see how to correctly move. For the final time he retrieved his weapons and this time moving slowly in a step by step method, he drew his weapons explaining as he did so how he was doing it. He released the first two weapons and seconds later the second followed in its shadow. He also explained how he was throwing them, and why he was throwing them that way. Letting them know how he had to calculate the way the breeze might attempt to throw them off course to ensure their accuracy. Senshi resisted the urge to smile as all the weapons landed directly in the bulls eye on either the center of the body or the head of it. He turned back to the class then and started speaking. “All right now that you know how to perform this technique we will begin weapons practice. If you get good enough at throwing them now, you too will be able to do this technique as it is just the tip of the ice berg what a weapons specialist is capable of.” As the students began moving to their own targets Senshi retrieved his weapons replacing them before moving down the line assisting the students as necessary. He often found he had to correct their forms and found himself repeatedly showing the Shadow Shuriken technique to struggling students to encourage them to try harder. Two hours later and the Chuunin called a halt to the training ordering the students to begin running back to the classroom he approached Senshi. The boy braced himself to attention as the Chuunin pulled a scroll from his pocket offering it to the boy before speaking. “This is my report on your performance. So you know you did a good job, I recommended a commendation be made in your file for how well you did with the rope escape technique. I noted that you need to practice more with the Shadow Shuriken technique, you certainly have it down however I noticed some common mistakes when you were moving at full and half speed. A bit more practice and you will surely have it down. I hope to work with you again some day Genin Kobayashi.” Senshi felt himself swelling with pride, he couldn’t wait to tell his father how well he had done with this mission today. Snapping off a crisp salute Senshi responded to the man, “Thank you, sir. It would be my honor to work with you and your students again. Have a good day, sir.” The Chuunin nodded before taking off to meet his students in the classroom, finally Senshi could allow himself to smile in pride. He headed off to the restaurant near the Mission office to eat lunch and fill out his mission report. He would definitely be practicing the technique more after he turned the mission in. Once he arrived at his favorite lunch spot he ordered some Gyoza and rice, and immediately began filling in his own report. Looking back on the notes he had made throughout the mission he made sure to note the girl who needed better training in securing a prisoner and several of the other students who needed to maintain practice. Once he was complete he quickly ate his food and headed to the mission office a large grin on his face. Before he entered he carefully schooled his expression to the neutral one he was used to presenting before moving to the turn in desk. Bracing to attention he placed both scrolls on the desk before speaking “Sir, Genin Kobayashi Senshi reporting Mission, Training 569 complete. Is their anything else required of me today, sir?” The Chuunin eyed him for several seconds before perusing the scrolls in front of him. He spent several minuets longer looking through Senshi’s than the Chuunin Instructors before he shrugged and placed them in the completed pile. “No Genin Kobayashi you are free to go. Good work on your report, I hope to see that thoroughness continue.” Nodding to the man Senshi saluted him respectfully before heading out to the training grounds. He had a weapons technique to practice and perfect for combat. ------Words: 2832 Requesting: D Rank Mission Complete 1000 Ryo 3 AP Ninjutsut: Rope Escape Technique - Rank E, 500 Words Weapon: Shadow Shuriken Technique - Rank D, 1000 Words |
