Genjutsu Training With A Deceptive Chunin
Mon Feb 13, 2017 1:02 am
Ice Release. The Yuki clan's Kekkei Genkai and specialty. Sei Yuki was reading as such from his mother's journal, fascinated with the various appliances of this ice for jutsu and domestic use alike. It was little wonder why his chakra nature was wind, all he needed now was water and he'd be able to learn some of the jutsu from this book.
For now though, Sei needed to grow stronger. If he could master even another E-Rank jutsu and allow himself to grow just a bit further he knew he'd be strong enough for the Genin Exam.
It was during this contemplation, in the middle of an academy lesson that the chunin teacher caught his ear.
"There are several unique types of Jutsu including: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Fuinjutsu, Weapon and Medical. There are some other types of jutsu but they are much too obscure and difficult for most people to know. I happen to be a Genjutsu specialist."
Genjutsu. His teacher specialised in Genjutsu. That was all he needed to know. He returned to his mother's journal, waiting until the very end of the lesson, when every other student had left to approach the teacher.
"Excuse me, miss Isana? I was wondering about your input on a situation of mine. I've been trying to learn the Genjutsu Release but i can't find anyone to help me with it. You wouldn't happen to know any Genjutsu specialists i could learn from would you?"
The Blonde Chunin, only known to him as Miss Isana smiled, seemingly ignoring her packing to answer him.
"Actually Sei, I still have an hour or two until any of my family get home. If you want you can stay behind for an hour or so until we can at least get the basics of the jutsu down."
"That shouldn't be a problem."
Miss Isana raised an eyebrow to the boy, apparently expecting him to refuse the idea of staying behind for another hour. An option for the lazy and unmotivated.
"Then let's go."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The academy training ground. A simple, open area with walls preventing escape for the more daring of students. Targets littered the eastern wall, set to various distances from distinct white chalk lines while the rear of the grounds housed a small woodland obstacle course. The rest of the area was dedicated to arenas.
"A perk to being a teacher most of you kids don't know about is that we all get unlimited access to the school's training grounds outside of school hours. Not many of us use it that often but it's perfect for this kind of training. Ready Kiddo?"
Sei straightened, standing at attention in front of his new sensei for the time being. Isana seemed impressed by this, inspecting the Yuki's neutral expression, expecting him to falter in some way. He didn't.
"Impressive. Most of you kids usually crack under the gaze of a teacher. Anyway, we're getting off track. Before we begin, recite to me all of the details regarding Genjutsu Release you know of."
"Genjutsu Release: E Rank. Supplementary. Handseals: Tiger. Performed by releasing a sudden burst of chakra through the user's body to break the Genjutsu user's control over the user's chakra control. Further Details: The Jutsu will only work if you know for a fact that you are under a Genjutsu. Simply using it in a panic, even if you are under Genjutsu will not work."
"Perfect. I'm guessing you simply needed an opponent to test it on?"
"Indeed."
"Then let's begin."
Not even a second passed before the Chunin was gone, leaving Sei in a state of panic. Was he talking to a Genjutsu that whole time? He mentally scolded himself, noting to never let down his guard the moment Genjutsu is mentioned. Sei's hands were already clapped together, his two outer fingers of each hand overlapping to form the Tiger handseal.
From the corner of his eye Sei noticed movement. Isana. She was circl- Dashing towards hi-
"Release!"
His attempt was met with a fist to the face. In fact, he'd been sent flying into the training grounds nearby wall. Of course she'd bait him into using it immediately. Sei shook his head quickly, clearing his vision before roughly pulling himself from the wall.
Blurry Vision. Expect an att- Isana approaching...not fake!
He dived to the ground, bleeding out his momentum in a roll while maintaining the Tiger handseal. He needed to be ready.
Sei looked back towards his last position, noting no visible markings of destruction. Unless...
"Release!"
One burst of chakra through his veins later and Isana was visible, her hand lodged inside the stone of the wall before she ripped it out with chakra-enhanced strength.
"Nice one Kid!"
"It's Sei."
"That respect comes when you're Chunin kid."
Then she was gone again, seemingly already cast another Genjutsu to escape, the breif conversation serving as a distraction.
"Crafty."
Sei couldn't help but let out a smirk. This was getting fun. His eyes were already scanning for the next hint, the next telltale sign that Genjutsu was in use. He looked over the targets on the far end of the training ground. Nothing. The small collection of trees then. Nothing...no. A blurry patch in his vision over a bush.
"Release!"
The blurry patch was gone, even the bush was, replaced by the Chunin. The really angry Chunin.
"Alright enough of this! All i wanted was to play with a kid but all you do is release all of my Genjutsu! You're finished!"
A burst of wind caused Sei to cross his arms in defence, shielding himself from the growing jutsu. There it was. The huge, clear, menacing shape of what Sei could only assume was a wind variant of the Water Dragon Technique. Sei's mind was racing. Why suddenly lose it? Chunin were meant to have a calm, level head at all times. They needed to. They'd likely face worse than an annoying persistent kid who was good at spotting Genjutsu...unless...of course. Isana was too kind-hearted to lose control like this.
"HAVE SOME OF THIS!"
The dragon roared, barrelling towards it's intended target but before it could attack Sei's hands clapped together, quickly forming the Tiger seal as Sei stared down the dragon.
"Release!"
And just like that it was gone, replaced by a smiling, calm Isana, extending a hand to the boy.
"Good work kid. Most students tend to fail at that last stage."
Sei, finally realising he'd fallen in his brief panic toom the Chunin's hand, standing upright with her help, a proud smile on his face.
"Thank you."
"No problamo kiddo, i'm here anytime you need help learning Genjutsu."
".....Problamo?"
Isana let out a deep sigh, chuckling lightly to herself before shoving Sei playfully.
"Nevermind, now scram, i've got work to do."
Sei obliged her, turning to leaving, muttering to himself as he left.
"Chunin cannot come fast enough."
