Zanshin's Genin Exam

Zanshin was, or at least appeared, confident when he took steps into the exam hall. Once he sat, he'd lean back slightly while waiting to be called upon. It was an act, of course, because he was beyond nervous, but hiding feelings did feel like something any ninja needed to be able to perform successfully. With a little reassurance to himself, he finally did smile, and when he felt that he was getting closer to being called, he sat up straighter to leave a better impression.

Komon sighed as he stopped in front of the large wooden doorframe, the plaque marked it as room 206 but he didn't need the sign to confirm it. This was the room he had gone to long ago in order to take his very own gennin exam and he remembered it well. Letting the nostalgia pass he would open the door to reveal a room full of academy students, young fresh faces filled the rows of seats in front of him. He took his place behind a pedestal in the front of the classroom before calling out for the first couple of students to try their luck at the exam. All of them did well and Komon didn't have to fail anyone. The newer classes seemed to have a good grip on ninjutsu which was good considering Kumo was prepping for war, these gennin would be responsible for the village while the more experienced ninja like himself were on the front lines.

He smiled as he called the last name on the list. "Zanshin, please perform the clone and transformation techniques and give me a use for each one" he'd say as he motioned for the academy Student to make his way to the front of the class.

Komori stopped by the academy for a moment and flicked his brother in the back of the head. "Idiot." After all, the Hozuki did have dibs. He then body flickered out the window before he could be caught at a speed of 225.

Komon would dodge the flick as komori was a dumbass and invading a thread and would smack him in the back of the head to teach him a lesson. "Idiot" he'd say as his brother flickered out the window crying.

(Pretend that didn't happen and just go about your exam)

Komori would actually turn into a puddle and drown his brother. "Hello, Zanshin, was it? I'll be your new proctor."

It was with great hesitance that he stepped forward in front of the instructor and prepared to perform his jutsu. It felt like he only just learned how to perform these the other day, mostly because he did, and Zanshin truly doubted that he would be able to proficiently demonstrate them without any error. still, he had friends and family that were looking forward to watching him achieve his goals and graduate. With a smile, he looked toward the proctor and tried to lighten the mood and buy himself time to calm down. "I'll try to make this quick, don't worry."

After all, he was really worried enough about him passing for the both of them.

His mind drifted to what he planned to do after the test, mainly on what jutsu he'd be able to practice and what his future mentors might be like. He wanted to delve further into a change in chakra nature, absolutely, and he definitely wanted to see what would come from further training in higher ranking jutsu, but he also was just excited to do missions like the other shinobi. He didn't quite want to do this to fit in, but being on an equal plane with those who were born into families of higher esteem did seem quite appealing. Almost as if he was taking notes, he added "being equal" to the list of reasons that he wanted to graduate and become a genin with his classmates. He wanted to prove he could do it to his parents, he wanted to better himself simply for the sake of improvement, he wanted to be an equal to all of those who were deemed more capable simply because of genes, and most of all, he wanted to do it because he had fallen in love with the idea of being a ninja. Everything from the training, the different jutsu he had learned, the idea that he'd always be bettering himself, and that feeling of adventure and excitement, he was ready to finally move on to the next step of being a shinobi.

Snapping his attention back to the task at hand, Zanshin thought over the ninjutsu that he'd need to perform. Though he considered demonstrating more than what was required, he didn't want to show off, and after all, if he messed up he'd only be risking making a bigger fool of himself than he already expected to. So, with a quiet cough to clear his throat, "I'll start off with the clone technique before running through some possible uses." Weaving a set of three signs: Ram, Snake, and Tiger, he began to channel the necessary chakra from within needed to create a duplicate of himself. With a small cloud of smoke, the sign of a jutsu done correctly, a mirror image of the boy stood before them. There wasn't any substance, after all, it was just a projection instead of a real clone, but the requirement wasn't for him to create a shadow or water clone. With a smile, he put the signs together once more to create a second clone before taking a step back to let the instructor see them clearly. "The most immediate use for this would be a distraction. Something like sending an enemy packing in the wrong direction, or in combat, make them take a guess on which of your forms is real. Because it doesn't have substance, however, using it to fight directly isn't possible.

After another few seconds of letting the instructor look, the clones dispersed and Zanshin stepped back toward where he stood before to perform the follow-up technique.

Next up was the transformation technique, and though it gave him some trouble initially, he felt that it was his stronger jutsu of the two. He was able to mimic the forms of his parents quite well, and if he gave it some effort, Zanshin was willing to bet that he'd be able to mimic people who he had only seen for a few minutes. It was a gamble, sure, but Zanshin was more confident and felt that he'd be able to put his hand to mimicking the proctor if he took a second to warm up. With a smile, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes, putting together another series of three signs. It would take longer for him to conjure up the appropriate energy, forcing a large amount of chakra to flow through his body as he attempted to think over every detail of the person before him. It was hard, sure, but he wasn't going to push it for the sake of saving time or fitting any expectations either. He wanted to show he could create an illusion that would fool even the most skilled ninja, so after taking a good few seconds to finally focus at his own pace, he thought over his plan once more before deciding the was ready to act.

Like a wave, the chakra washed over every aspect of his form. The shape of his body and face changed, things as simple as eye or hair color shifting beneath the cloud of smoke that emerged around him.

With a smile, he motioned across his changed body. "This has some pretty obvious uses in the field. It can be used to blend into crowds, to hide your identity, or to steal someone else's. If we're on a mission to steal a scroll, deal with a target, or sneak into a fortress, we'll be able to become indistinguishable from our enemies. Hiding couldn't be made any easier, provided that we maintain the jutsu without allowing it to be disturbed."

Giving a small spin to demonstrate that his transformation was accurate, he quietly laughed before it was dispelled. He did better than he expected, and really, that was all anyone could ask for.

Komori had been walking past the door of his old academy when he happened to glance through the window and see his twin brother Komon proctoring several genin exams. He gave a nostalgic smile as he walked inside and stood by the door just in time to see the last boy, Zanshin, step up to take his exam. Komori observed as the boy performed the two most basic jutsu effortlessly. Komon excused himself to go somewhere and simply allowed Komori the honor of promoting the last genin of the day. “Congrats, you pass.” Komori used the clone seal and sent a shadow clone to fetch the boy’s headband. Seizing the opportunity, he then gave the student a sheet of paper with his address on it. “Whenever you need help training, come see me. I’m always here to assist others.” The shadow clone then returned and handed the new genin his headband before dispersing in a cloud of smoke. Zanshin would be free to leave whenever he wanted to exit the academy as the newest genin of Kumogakure.

His eyes danced between all of the movement that took place, but all that really mattered to him was the result he was told. Zanshin had passed, and that feeling was simply unreal. When the paper was offered, the boy looked it over before glancing to his side to look toward the forehead protector that was offered.

New teacher, new opportunity, and a whole lot of excitement all had awaited the boy.

"I'll really consider it, thank you!" With an excited laugh, the boy tied the band around his head before bounding out of the room. There was little doubt that Komori would be hearing from him soon.
