Chapter Five: Necessary Evil (P, Ren)

"Good, I've never seen someone pick up a technique so quickly as your self." said Kenji. Her posture straightened with the praise and nodded. "All the same it's far from perfect, I didn't even have to blink to break the genjutsu." Eren bit the inside of her lip and nodded once more. What could she improve on, though...? "Try it again," said he, trapping her in a genjutsu once more with a simple yet effective flick of the wrist. Maybe she could try casting it the same way she did Ephemeral? She gathered her chakra up for the b rank technique, though instead of casting it right away, moved her chakra around until it matched what she guessed would have been the right formation for whatever genjutsu she was in now. Ephemeral was definitely her favorite technique, if only for the variety and power combined in one. But then again... This was a different breed. Ren would have seen a very similar thing as last time, only more intense, with harsher colors, vivid smells, and a cold feeling upon his skin. Hopefully it was better than last time. She tried harder than last time, so she really hoped that it would be better.

A chill wind blew, and she shuddered. Then again, what good did hoping do? It was action that mattered.

Ren felt the technique take hold again before breaking under the pressure from his seal, the thing really was useful. "That's more like it" He's day smiling and pulling out a book which he tossed to the boy. "Take that, it's full of techniques that might interest you," he said throwing the boy a book filled with transcribed notes on various genjutsu that the boy could use. Ren grimaced for a moment, his curse mark flaring up again from the chakra usage, but he suppressed it as quickly as it had come, mentally reminding himself that he needed to continue suppressing it if he wanted to keep control over it. "So Eren, tell me how much do you know about the politics of the outside world?" He asked speaking plainly. Ren already knew the answer of course, having read the boy's mind, but he needed to broach the subject somehow.

"That's more like it!" She beamed inwardly from the praise. "Take that," said Kenji, tossing a book filled with odd notes at Eren. She caught it mid-air. It felt a little heavy in her hand... "It's full of techniques that might interest you." She grasped the cover and flipped it open. Ephemeral. Genjutsu Binding. Temple of Nirvana. All sorts of odd and fascinating illusions were listed, with step by step instructions.

"I do not know what to say, but for lack of a better word, thank you," she said greatfully. She took in a deep breath before letting it out.

"So Eren, tell me how much do you know about the politics of the outside world?" Kenji asked after a moment. She sighed and grimaced. This world... It was a truly rotten place. She could make it a better one, but would that require her to kill to make it so? If it did, so be it.

"Quite a bit, I must say." she replied. "Kumo is taking more territory, I hear." land was not a thing that should be owned, in her opinion. It should be shared.

"Your absolutely correct they are, and you don't agree with that?" Ren asked, feigning ignorance as he plucked the heartstrings of the young child. When the child inevitably agreed with Ren, he would pause for a moment, looking the boy in the eye. "And what if I were to offer you the chance to protect the world from their expansion?" He would ask nonchalantly, he was certain he already had the boy enraptured at this point. "You'd take me up on the offer no?" Ren would say just as the boy was about to reply, standing and dusting himself off again. Assuming the boy didn't say anything to disagree with Ren, then he would lead him off to the back door of the bar. "Come with me then I'll introduce you to a few people who think the same way as you" Ren would say leading the boy into the impromptu base of the resistance.

Once inside Ren would introduce the boy to the bouncer, a stocky man who happened to also be the man Ren had put in charge of organizing the grunts and red shirts that came through the place and performing small missions for the resistance. "Eren, this is Kieran, Kieran, Eren." He'd say introducing the two of them. "Kieran here will show you around and introduce you to this little band of people" Ren would say before turning and giving the two of them a nod.

Once Kieran had finished showing Eren around and introducing him to the people that were in the bar, he'd take Eren up to Ren's office where Ren would thank him and gesture for the boy to sit. "So what do you think of the place?" he'd ask casually as he walked around his desk to stand next to the boy, leaning against the hardened wood as he finished speaking. Assuming the boy didn't have any qualms about fighting with them Ren would nod. "Good then, let's get you outfitted" He would say, gesturing for the boy to lift up the back of his shirt where he started placing seals for the boy, each one standard issue for the men in his organization. Once that was done Ren would give the boy a smile and say, "Now why don't you go practice those genjutsu I leant you, I'll try and stop by in a short while and check up on you" Ren said with a smile. The boy was young, but he was also strong and had great potential.

The several seals were placed. Eren had no clue what they might achieve in his hands, but he supposed he'd find out. He flipped open the pages of the book. What a fascinating subject... Clearly, he chose correctly in becoming a student of illusions. He thought again on Ephemeral and it's similarities to hazy genjutsu. They were made to accomplish two entirely separate goals, one was for totruting and the other was invented to provide a distraction, but the way to cast them, chakra wise, was almost identical. Yes, he would definitely need to research more into this.

"Thank you," he said with a slight bow. "I will be practicing the art of illusions if you need me." he added. Then, walking out of the office, he left the bar to find some scum of the earth to use as victims for his practice. It shouldn't be too hard.
