Breaking Ground

It all started with a dream. There was fighting and the sound of screaming, but one voice could be heard above all of them. “The eighth gate, gate of death open!” With those words, the man became a shadow of his former self, as his muscle mass increased and his body took on a red tinge. The man’s eyes became pupil-less as the visage of his former self disappeared in its entirety. The mysterious figure projected an aura from his body that screamed run, but even those that followed that instinct were swiftly taken out by the punches and kicks of the beast.

As the battle field cleared of people the man looked directly into Kyousuke’s eyes. Not in the usual sense, because the ninja wasn’t there but the man’s gaze felt as if he had been looking at him. The figure would then move with incredible speed towards Kyousuke causing the ninja to jump and wake up. Sweating slightly, the ninja braced his hands on the bed as he looked down at his clock mere seconds before it was to go off. Well he wouldn’t listen to that, so as the item began to sound the ninja would promptly turn it off and get up.

While making breakfast Kyousuke couldn’t help but wonder where he had heard about the gate of death, besides in his dreams. The man had mentioned it was the eighth gate, so there must be at least seven more. As he wondered this a name of a different gate would appear in his head. The sixth gate, gate of view. Flipping his eggs Kyouske would look around. “Where have I seen this?” For now he would let it go and just enjoy his breakfast.

Sitting down he would grab a medical journal and open it while he held his fork in one hand. Turning the pages Kyousuke would spot an article about the eight inner gates. The ninja dropped his fork as he read the article. The journal mentioned there being eight gates within the human body. Each of which preserved the body by limiting it. These specific tenketsu slowed the flow of chakra which while keeping people from their maximum potential, also served as protection method. If one thought of it as a series of dams, it would be easier to think about.

In the journal, it mentioned medical professionals were going to attempt to remove these gates on a living subject and check the effects. Did Kyousuke dream of what this experiment would cause? No, the man opened these gates. Had they been removed he wouldn’t have a choice in that matter. It was an interesting concept though, maybe someone should try to open them. Except that gate of death one, that seemed scary.

 Kyousuke couldn’t help but wonder though if the gates like flood gates could be opened. Through enough training it may be possible. Maybe they could and maybe they could not either way he would have to try to know for sure. When it came to tenketsu the ninja had a name in mind that would surely be of some help. If Ayato were around he would know if he was flowing his chakra correctly to open the gates. In addition, he could see the effectiveness of opening each gate against another taijutsu user.

After that, Kyousuke would pick up the magazine from the table and walk out of the door to the training grounds. On the way, the ninja would read the magazine. Assuming I need to open each gate in order I need to know where they are all located. The gate of opening is in the brain and is thought to allow one-hundred percent use of the muscles. Dropping his arms to the side Kyousuke would say “Gate of opening, open!” He would then wait for his skin to change colors like the mans in his dreams had, but nothing changed. Kyousuke didn’t note any changes within his body, maybe he had to know where all the gates were to know how to direct his chakra flow from one gate to the next.

The gate of healing is in the brain and thought to allow a further use of the muscles and reenergize the body. It probably did so, by increasing the flow of adenosine tri-phosphate or more commonly known as ATP. If the gate of healing was also in the brain Kyousuke would have to channel his energy from one part of his brain and into the next. The gate of life is located in the spinal cord and test are unclear on the effects of opening the gate. The ninja had to think there for a moment, was he truly about to attempt something that science was unclear on? The answer was yes, yes. It was time to make some discoveries and document them. Kyousuke had a thought that opening this gate would put further strain on the body and muscles, but not enough to cause meaningful muscle tissue damage. The rest of the gates if they did increase one’s strength to a serious degree would likely cause severe tissue damage to the average shinobi. Luckily, the queensguard was regarded as a rather sturdy person especially when his body manipulated natural energy.

The gate of pain located on the spinal cord as wel. All Kyousuke could think while reading the name of the gate is how much it would likely hurt to have it open for an extended period of time. Gate of limit located within the abdomen. At this point the ninja began to notice a pattern of the gates moving down the body.Gate of View located within the stomach and the sixth gate along the chakra pathway. With only two remaining gates to go there had to be a tremendous amount of tissue damage when this gate is opened, likely needing immediate surgery after use. The seventh gate the gate of wonder located below the stomach. As the pattern held true until this point, the giant had to think when he read the location of the gate of death. The location is in the heart. The man presumed the side effects of the gate would be as the name implied death, likely due to the strain on the cardiac muscle. It being the pump of the human body opening the gate would likely cause massive amounts of damage before the person died of heart failure. It was this gate that the monster in his dream opened and one that the giant hoped would never be needed if his training succeeded.

There was still a bit to walk if the ninja were to get to the training grounds, so he could either run or go over the material again. It would likely be best to go over it again to ensure comprehension. He told that to his student’s multiple times, if he didn’t do that himself it would make him a hypocrite. The giant would mouth the name of the gates and their specific location within the body as he continued to walk. He would finally stop as he neared the gates of training grounds and sign his name on the roster to enter. It was good to see other names on the page it meant people were doing training, which showed the villages improvement To be a good ninja one must be strong, but to be a great one you have to train new abilities.

Inside, the training grounds the ninja would find his usual spot. There were broken rocks and toppled boulders all around. It looked like the area could use a bit of a fixing. In addition, the grass was dead and there was dirt kicked up all along. Maybe, Kyousuke could open one of the gates and attempt to change the state his training area was in. Not only would it be good training, but it would also be constructive. After it was cleaned it would look better and encourage more people to use the spot. It may even inspire someone to maintain the grounds in the future. No, it probably wouldn’t when it came to keeping village things nice it didn’t usually happen unless someone was getting paid for it. This type of thing was something few and far between would do willingly.

Kyousuke would clap his palms together and think about the first gate the gate of opening. It was time to try again. The ninja would focus on the gate located within his brain, as the ninja focused and attempted to force the gate open he would rush chakra into his head on the side of the gate. The chakra flowed, but the ninja only ended up becoming light headed. Maybe, the technique was easier to do in combat. People were capable of incredible things when they needed to. Unfortunately, there was no one around at the moment at least within one-hundred meters, so he would have to think of something else. Maybe, all he needed was a focus. Maybe, his voice could work to channel the energy it was worth a shot.

Channeling chakra into his brain once more, the ninja would speak “Gate of opening, open!” With the words came a flood of adrenaline, giving his body a boost to stamina and also increasing his strength. This indeed was the first gate the man could feel his muscles tense as chakra poured through the gate and throughout his body. The ninja would flex his fingers and look over to the boulders, perhaps he would start with those. The man would stretch first, starting with his legs.

As Kyousuke ran towards the rocks he noted he didn’t have to build momentum to reach his maximum speed. Something the ninja would indeed note when he published his own medical journal on what each gate was capable of doing once opened. With great haste the ninja would rush toward the boulder slamming into it with incredible strength and speed. The rock shifted against the force of Kyousuke’s body as his muscles were put into action. The boulder nestled back into its original place, characterized by a patch of dirt where plant life had ceased to function some time ago. The place where the rock was moments ago had a patch of brown grass, but with time the chlorophyll within the plants would absorb the sun’s rays and it would return to life.

It was time to move another rock this time much further. Kyousuke would brace his arms against the rock and begin to push. Moving his legs away from his body and using both to push. His arms against the rock and his legs against the ground. The object began to move, it wasn’t a round rock so it didn’t roll. The boulder left a trail of crushed grass and pushed up dirt in its wake, as the object gained momentum it became easier to push. Across the ground about thirty feet the boulder would roll, before the ninja stopped it within its original place.
Kyousuke would do this with the remaining boulders as well moving them back into place. He could lift some of them, but the resistance of the dirt would provide additional training so it was better to leave them on the ground. With all of the boulders returned to their original spot, the man would dust off his gloves. There was still replanting of grass seed that needed done. Luckily, the queensguard knew where the tool shed was and knew it would contain the items he would need to complete his task. A hose, buckets, grass seed, and a rake.

The man would run full force to the shed and stop before it, no need to charge through the door it was just training. He would grab the necessary utensils and fill the bucket. Once, filled he would keep the water steady while running at a moderate pace. The man would spread the seed along the dirt trails where no grass remained, before raking the soil to spread the seeds throughout the dirt. Lastly, he would sprinkle the water onto the soil, to give the seeds and soil a bit of moisture. With all of that done he would return the equipment.

With his training area repaired he would take a deep breath and close the gate of opening. As he thought it hadn’t put much strain onto his body. But he would have to right down the effects of the first gate and let few people know about the technique. If someone knew he was studying the gates and had opened one, they might attempt to take his data or use it for nefarious purposes. Something, that Kyousuke surely did not want to see as the death monster seemed terrifying enough.

Patting a rock Kyousuke would head home. He would save the excitement of opening the second gate for another day perhaps. He had learned it was possible through willpower to open one of the gates and like with the boulder once it got moving it was likely easier to continue moving. The giant also wanted to ask Ayato if he could see the flood of chakra within the gate which is something else he could write about.


That day the ninja left the training grounds with a smile for multiple reasons. He was discovering a new technique, he had learned to open the first gate, and lastly within the next couple of days the grass seeds would sprout and his area of the fields would look renewed again.
