Bedivere's Guard Duty [E Rank: Meet and Greet]
Thu May 03, 2018 6:17 pm
Meet and Greet
The young Knight patrolled the outside of the walls of the grand city of Hoshigakure where he was currently living. He had decided on taking a normal patrol mission to help out the city guard, though they weren’t all particularly pleased with the prospect of a ninja boy helping out. However any rogues that showed up would be dealt with much more swiftly by this night then they would be by the normal guards who were not equipped for that sort of fighting. Bedivere himself was still down a sword, which he lamented while running a hand through his soft blonde hair. He looked at a kunai he had pulled from his pouch with a bit of sadness. “Such a small blade is barely knightley. Even worse it's not even CLOSE to being squirely. At least the weather's nice.”
He had the urge to stretch his legs and go running, but he couldn’t leave far from his post, even slow as the day was. It didn’t really look like a horde of bandits was going to rush up the their front door, but one never knew for sure. He leaned back against the firm wall and sighed, keeping an eye on the horizon.
It had been a little over 2 hours when a strange woman showed up selling potions and trinkets. She asked to be let in, but Bedivere was suspicious of what was in her cart and began to take a look. The woman, gray haired with bright green eyes, just gave him a grin and offered him a potion. The liquid was green in color and seemed to bubble ever so slightly. The blonde took it and shook it lightly. “What is...in this?”
The woman just grinned and chuckled slightly, shaking her head. “Yes, yesss it is for drinking yes it is. Sip now, come on, give it a sip!”
Bedivere was admittedly suspicious of the woman's choice of words, as well as her general way of talking but...when he thought of what Arthur would do...he went ahead and uncorked the bottled. It didn’t smell bad to the boy, even weirder it smelled a little like lime which was definitely weird. He tipped the bottle up. Taking a small sip of the drink. His eyes went wide, and he drank the rest with an eager series of gulps. “Lady...this stuff is amazing!”
It was bubbly and sweet, with just a hint of lime. It's delicious flavour filled his senses as the boy shook his head. “Alright you can go in as long as the other guards don’t have an issue.”
The other guards suspiciously tried their own potions and found them equally agreeable, waving her in as she just continued in. “Yes, thank you young lady. Come, come to my shop anytime yess.”
It took a second for Bedivere to realize it, but did that old woman just mistake him for a woman? He sighs and shakes his head. “I’m...I’m a boy though.”
Dejected, he continues his watch.
Apparently today was a day for food to enter the village as a wine cart came barreling down to the village, carried by some very tired looking ponies. Kunai, shuriken and the like stuck in the wheels and the driver seemed like he had seen better days for sure. He was dressed in black armor from head to toe and seemed to be mute as Bedi only heard him make grunts to his ponys that they somehow seemed to understand. This was all a bit beyond the blonde but he walked up to the cart anyway to make sure he had all of his correct papers.
He did his best to smile up at the driver, hoping to be friendly.
“Name?”
The man just looked to Bedi, handing him papers and responded with a growl of “Grah”
Bedivere looked over the sheet, which seemed to be all in order. The man was named Lance, and he was carrying a lot of wine. So much so that it was apparently worth enough to try and steal. Bedi glanced next to the man to see a sword crusted in blood. “I imagine those bandits didn’t make out so well with your wine?”
The dark armored man just nodded with a gruff noise that Bedivere was unable to properly describe. The boy would offer him a throat lozenge if he had one, but he imagined that this man just talked this way...well grunted this way anyway. The guards inspected the cart themselves, also looking over his papers before deciding to wave him along. Bedivere looked to the entrance to see a woman with bright blonde hair, waving to Lance happily. “LAAAAAAAAAANCE!!”
The man waved back, then yelled back, “GRAAAAAAAAAAHDAAAAAAAAAAA”
It was...a little grating but also kind of beautiful in a way. He turned back to his post.
His time was ending fast for this mission and the day had been rather slow, but he didn’t mind meeting some friendly, though a little weird people. Nothing majorly bad happened so he hoped to return to base with a good report. He sighed and ran a hand through his blond hair, leaning back against the wall once more. It didn’t seem like anyone else was coming but it was his duty to wait and make sure after all. This was during a dangerous period where the guards were changing shifts and anything could possibly happen. However with a ninja so clear in front of the gates most people of poor repute would stay away. There were still people in the world who didn’t quite understand what a ninja could do and remained cautious or outright afraid like the population of Hoshi. Even with how the civilians treated most ninja, it was odd that they still put in requests like guarding the wall to be done. He gave a small yawn, as the last of the people for the day began to head back through the gate. No one suspicious stood out thankfully so Bedi stepped off the wall and headed inside as well to turn in his mission report.
