Endless Seas [P, NK]

Kamui was a unique realm. It was dark - cold. The walls and pillars that filled the endless sea of darkness were the only platforms from which one could stand. It seemed limitless. However, the most important aspect of this place was the quiet. There was no sound. Just silence. Sometimes it would have been maddening, but, strangely, Yurei felt as though he could finally breathe, though each breath felt of sulfur and fire. He sat no less than ten meters from Damon, Esu beside him. Dogs were curious creatures. They seemed to know precisely when their owner was upset. Yet his presence did not comfort Yurei - nor did Damon’s.

It pained Yurei to know what was troubling Damon, but he couldn’t ask. He felt such loneliness, but perhaps it was what he need now. He had to prepare for what was to come. The world was at his fingertips now. He was free, essentially. But, despite everything, his lungs still ached. He still felt shackled. 

Yurei’s fingers stretched across the cold pillar he sat upon, drifting in the empty void of the kamui dimension. In a word, it was overwhelming. For one so lost for so long, now it truly felt as if he had both anywhere and nowhere to go. The possibilities, the choices, it all blended together, melding into the impossible. The floor was cool to the touch, like snow or ice. 

The white-haired Uchiha thought of where he had been, what he had seen. He’d scarcely used kamui. The ability possessed so much potential, so many possibilities, and, yet, he had nowhere to go. He could go anywhere he had ever been, but the Uchiha had never even left Haven country. In fact, he hadn’t even gone far beyond the gates. But he was here now. Further from Hoshigakure than he would ever be. This was no place to live, however. A base, perhaps - a safe haven. He couldn’t create change from here, though. No, he needed to return to the world he knew, eventually. 
The white Uchiha pursed his lips, taking a deep breath as he scratched behind Esu’s ears. It felt as if a train had hit him, as if every bone in his body had been broken.

Thoughts of betrayal scattered throughout his mind. He asked himself over and over - how could his mother do this? He knew the answer. It was simple: vengeance. However, no matter how many times he gave an answer, the question repeated. 

Yurei sat in silence as Damon spoke, stroking Esu with vacant eyes. They stared out to the emptiness of this realm, noting the changes in each of the pillars that surrounded them. It was almost rhythmic, like a silent song stretching across the night. 

“I’ve…” Yurei started, swallowing. He found the words difficult, many trapped between his stomach and lips. “I never left Hoshigakure. No more than a kilometer from the gates. Even then, that was a mission. To protect someone from the zealots,” Yurei chuckled soflty. His face quickly lost its shape, returning to an expression of cold hate, a glare in his eyes that cut through the void of Kamui. However, upon hearing the words Damon spoke, the suggestion of freedom with no destination, Yurei’s eyes widened. 

Hoshigakure no longer had any meaning to him. Yurei feared that had been the case for a long time. However, he fought to stave from apathy - a carelessness for what happened in that place, what had once been his home. No, his sentiments were anything but. The village needed changes, and, for the longest time, he told himself the world needed to change as well. But what he had lacked for so long was perspective. Komon Hyuuga had told him that, in Kumogakure, the villagers were kind. There were no zealots, no masses of a seething hatred stemming from the very people shinobi were to protect. For the longest time that had seemed a paradise to Yurei, so much so that the thought of the undead that guarded the village was inconsequential. That was their destination. That was the only place they could go - The Village Hidden in the Clouds.

“Damon,” Yurei called out, turning his head toward his brother. His silvery eyes glanced at the dark-haired Uchiha. They glared with an intensity Damon had never before seen in Yurei’s eyes, a curious fire that burned so coldly, like a blue flame cold to the touch. “I know where we can go. A place far away from Hoshigakure. I have…” Yurei paused, considering his words. ”I have friends there. People we can trust.” Thoughts of Saya and Komon, memories, faded in and out of his mind. There was something about her, though. Something that anchored her to him, a feeling, a presence, even. Yurei stretched out, feeling for the connection across time and space. It felt almost empty, but there was something there - a murmur in the hapless void. A whisper, like a songbird. The tune was soft, cheery, but almost sad. Lonely. It was her chakra signature - Saya’s - the girl he had met so long ago.

There was almost excitement in his alabaster face. Or perhaps it was simply an urge to leave the past behind - for now - to move on to something else, a distraction. Perhaps Damon needed that too. Yurei could even ask what had happened to him that night. The words, as they were now, he found difficult to say. Anything pertaining to this night would be impossible, at least right now.

The decision was final. Yurei simply wished his brother to know. He could already feel Saya’s chakra signature through the connections of time and space. It was about time they met once more. He only hoped his changes did not strike her.

Yurei grasped Damon, bringing him into the vortex once more. Only this time, there was something of value on the other end. Something to learn from - to use to fix what was so wrong. Esu would have to wait until things were certain
