Chuunin Exam Awards Ceremony

Now it came to the outright victor of the Chuunin Exams. The shinobi that had not felt the sting of defeat, at least in this one. Standing before Hayate while the proctor retrieved the final set on the table, he spoke out to the boy, “Hayate Seiteki.” There was a brief pause after the name, an array of thoughts spinning through the conquerors mind while he stood before the champion. So many things could be said, yet there was such little time. “This is not the first time you’ve known the glory of being in the final match of a tournament, yet now you know the joy of being first. You did not become arrogant from your success in the first tournament and as you progressed through this one you showed traits that Kirigakure adores.”

A few more seconds passed before he spoke up once again, the amber hue of his eye searing into the elevated figure, “In each match you showed a level of cunning expected from a higher ranked shinobi, always a step ahead of your opponent. Your barrages were pinpoint accurate and a delight to witness with my own eyes. Your grasp on the importance of the mind during conflict is remarkable, understanding that you needn’t attack the healthy enemy in order to put them at a disadvantage.” Ruthless was the true word that Xyxer wished to say, and although he’d painted the image he would not say it outright. It would be unbecoming of his persona to value such a trait in the Chuunin Exams.

“You proved equally that you can cohesively function as a part of a team when you paired with Nero Yuki, yet you did not allow this partnership to impede your fight against one another. You both fought impressively, yet you stand the victor of this Chuunin Exams. Your skill with the blade is far above your rank.” Xyxer now received the flak jacket from the proctor, spinning it around once more to display the symbol to Hayate on the back.

He’d begin to put the jacket on the boy, sliding it over his arms while he spoke, “Wear this jacket proudly as a sign of your accomplishments on this day. Hold your head high while you walk through the streets with the knowledge that you served Kirigakure during this event. It is with great pride that I now announce you, Hayate Seiteki, a Chuunin of Kirigakure, and a role model for our future generations.” Xyxer decreed, now passing the pouch of ryo over to the man.

Stepping back from Hayate given that he had nothing lengthy to say, he’d turn around to address the entirety of the audience, “This concludes the starting of the new tradition. Let these fights bolster the warmth inside your hearts as you now can be rest assured that your shinobi can defend your village from outside threats properly. The festivities are now over and outside villages will be expected to return home as soon as they’re able. Thank you for your kind acceptance, and participation in this event.” The Mizukage finished, taking his leave.

Hayate listened to the Hoshi representative speak about the boy who refused to give up even when struck a normally fatal blow. He remembered the steel in that ninjas eyes while holding back the blood, and the quick decision to abandon the fight to save his partner from another village. It was good, he supposed, that if someone besides Kiri had to be standing here, it was that one. He did notice the lady not so subtly suggest that it was the pairing that prevented hoshi from going farther, but luck was also an element ninja had to deal with, that made or broke missions.

Then it was onto Nero. Passing on his first try. That stung a bit, even though Hayate made the finals before and won this time around. But he suppose Nero must feel something similar, never having the chance to rectify the loss, to try again and come in first. A double edged sword, one might say. Hayate slightly flexed the bandaged hand that nero had pierced, unconsciously. Their fight had been a good one, though, a quick and brutal affair of blows, counters, feints, and strikes.

Finally the Mizukage stood before Hayate. It seemed unreal. Hayate had only really gotten close to him once before, a brief passing in the streets during a festival. Here, though, the kage addressed him, and knew who he was and what he had done. Thinking rationally, this must happen for ever single chuunin at some point, but... it was hard to remind yourself of that when possibly the most powerful man on the planet was helping you to put on a jacket. Hayates neutral expression cracked into a small smile at the donning of the vest. He was only able to accept the ryo with his right hand, his left bandaged as it was, and bow. He didn't trust his words at this point.

The cold anger, the icy resolve and resignation to a system, all the turmoil he had felt in the past few days dealing with konoha misguided ideals and the conflicts of the exam seemed to lift from him. He may have a lot to internally unpack later, but for now, he had achieved a goal, completed a mission, and reaped the rewards. A small, subtle joy that just wouldn't go away had risen and would likely be with him for a little while yet.

He waited as the exit started. As planned, the kiri delegation all had everything packed, and Hayate was ready to leave with the town behind, with the crew he was finally starting to recognize he was a real part of. Kiri pride.

Masashi watched as the Mizukage walked forward and had a similar speech with both of his shinobi, Nero and Hayate. The man was charismatic, as could be deduced from the eloquent words that left his mouth as he praised his new Chuunin. ‘At least I won’t have to go through this a second time.’ He thought to himself as the Kirigakure shinobi departed, leaving only Hikari, himself and the proctor in the arena. With nothing left here for him to do, Masashi would also exit, returning to his assigned rooms to pack and prepare for the journey home.
