Archived mission - Guarding the Parade
Wed Nov 13, 2019 11:55 pm
There wasn’t any missions on the mission board or any people around when Akarui arrived. Finding this odd, he made way into the mission office. It was the first time Akarui had stepped into the office since he had been with his old squad.
It looked like it always did, same old desk, same old eyed Jounin behind it. He looked rather bored playing with a pen. Akarui approached the desk about to ask the situation but before he could ask the Jounin spoke up.
“Missions were cancelled today kid. The feudal lords Parade event is happening today. All available Shinobi are to report to the main gate for further instructions. So if that’s what you’re here for, that’s what I got for you.” He said with a lazy grin while he played with a Kunai. Then the Jounin directed his attention somewhere else as a clear dismissal of the Genin. Akarui sighed at the one eyed Jounin. Clearly, he was still as direct as usual. In any case, he had his mission.
The main gate was full of activity for the feudal lords Parade. Earth barriers at waist height had been raise to keep civilians from the main gate. It stretched down the main street towards the Hokage building in the distance. When Akarui arrived, he easily spotted a group of Shinobi next to the small gate house and made his was over.
Akarui and his fellow Shinobi were briefed about the days events by the Jounin overseeing the parade security. The route that the feudal lords Parade will be taking was indeed the most direct route to the Hokage building. All Shinobi were assign a task. It was his duty to go secure a section on the route. Once there, he was to support parade staff and report any suspicious activity or incidents.
That would be easy enough. There shouldn’t be any problems but Akarui didn’t know Konohagakure politics. He hadn’t paid much attention to it nor is he a Jounin or such. If he were, he would know the behind the scenes activities or have influence. But that was a long way off.
For now, Akarui must work hard. After the briefing he made his way to a bend in the route that he was to secured. Upon arriving he saw quite a number of civilians crossing the street through the gaps in the earthen barrier. Knowing that the parade was due to start soon, Akarui had to stop the traffic flow.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, the parade will soon be starting. If you’d please make your way to the other side of the earthen barriers. The parade will be coming through here so the road needs to be clear. That’s it, thank you for cooperating in an orderly fashion” Akarui informed the crowd. Mostly everyone followed instructions immediately. A few had to be asked again with the newcomers.
After all civilians were behind the earthen barrier, another Shinobi who had come in the group after Akarui’s joined him and closed the gaps in the barrier. He then informed Akarui that he could handle this while Akarui could go patrol the back in case of trouble. The Shinobi’s skills are more suited to this was his reasoning.
Akarui didn’t argue and immediately gathered chakra in his legs. In a burst of mist he disappeared from where he had been standing. He appeared 30 meters away on a roof overseeing his section of the parade route.
“If anything happens, I’ll be able to see it and respond straight away.” Surveying the area calmly he spoke to himself. He stayed on the roof for half an half before he saw something suspicious across the street in an alleyway. Three men huddling together seeming to be discussing something. “That looks suspicious. I’ll go and investigate. If it is too much for me to handle, I’ll retreat and report it to the higher ups.
Again gathering chakra in his legs, he disappeared again in a mist. Reappearing on the road before immediately disappearing in a mist cloud before most people caught sight of him. When he appeared once more, he knelt on the roof above the three suspicious individuals. Quietly he listened to them speaking.
“This is the last time I’ll tell you nitwits. The boss is planning to hit the parade right under those Shinobi they don’t run this area of the village. We are to start here. Once they hear our attack, that’s the signal to create havoc. He he" The tall one said to his colleagues.
Akarui was stunned. He hardly believed what he was hearing. If what they said was accurate, this is much bigger than he alone could handle. He had to make a decision. Should he confront them now? No, he needed to let somebody know then come back. If they were still here, he would intervene. If not, he delivered important info regardless.
Biting his lip, he disappeared in a mist again. This time he stopped in the street and headed to the fellow Shinobi attending the crowd. He couldn’t let him be unprepared if something happened. Understandably the Shinobi’s reaction was grave. He agreed Akarui should report it as soon as possible.
Gone in a mist, he made haste toward the staging area. Along the way he noticed that the parade had begun so he increased he speed to the limit. Reaching the main gate, Akarui raced to find the Shinobi in charge. When he did, he immediately explained what he heard and the situation at his sector. The captain just nodded and thanked me for the information then immediately sent out orders to the surrounding Jounin. After they left, the captain turned to Akarui.
“Thank you. We had known they were planning something but didn’t know where they would start. Your Intel has given us the edge this time. Instead of reacting to their schemes, we can go on the offensive.” The captain patted Akarui on the back. “We will take it from here, wait for further instructions.”
“Yes sir!” Akarui saluted.
