Coming home. For better or for worse. Empty Coming home. For better or for worse.

"Another hot day."

Taichi was walking through the desert, griping about the heat. He may have been born on these dunes of sand, that didn't mean he loved the heat that came with them. He had been walking for months, but the destruction was still fresh in his mind. The screams of the villagers, of his fiance and her family. He had been trying to get the memories of that night out of his head. He tried starving himself and leaving himself near death without water in the middle of the desert, but he was rescued by a traveling caravan. He tried drinking himself into a week long stupor, hoping the alcohol would be enough to do the trick, but he never could drink enough to kill himself, or forget.

After his months of walking, he figured it was time to go back. His crusade against himself wasn't working and he was beginning to get homesick. The mere thought of home was laughable to him, he knew there was nothing left, but he also knew that he needed to see his would be family's home once more, maybe he could get some closure out of that.

He knew where he wanted to go, but he soon realized that he hadn't a clue where he was. After a few weeks straight of drunkenness, those small details seem to slip your mind. Luckily enough for him, he was passing by a town when he made the decision to finally go home.

He walked through the archway that read, "Welcome to Shinshinotsu". Taichi figured that was good enough for him. He walked into the general store and asked the lady behind the counter where they were. He knew that she wouldn't know where Suna was, but even if she had a map, he could figure it out. She handed him a map and told him to have a good day, he told her the same and walked out of the store.

When he opened the map he rubbed his eyes for a moment, trying to allow them to focus more clearly, then read the map. Once he had his heading, he put the map into his pack and started the journey back home.

The memories continued to flood his mind, the screaming of his fiance Hana, screaming for Taichi. He had gotten there just long enough to hear the screams, then to watch the building collapse on top of them. His eyes began to shimmer in anger, he had never forgave himself for not being able to help that night, only having the ability to watch helplessly as everyone he loved died in what felt like an instant. He felt angry at those who destroyed Suna.

"How could life mean so little? Why would a war that caused so much collateral damage be the only option worth weighing?"

The thought of taking someone's life was almost unthinkable before the destruction of Suna. He knew that he was going to be a ninja, he graduated the academy, but the thought of taking life on such a grand scale as war seemed to be the most absurd of answers to any problem. He kept pushing through the night, he felt a need to get to Suna as soon as possible.

After weeks of walking, he finally made it. The gates were beaten and the town looked just as he remembered, still torn from the war. But weirdly, it still felt like home. He reached the gates of the sandy village and placed his hand on a piece of the walls that remained. The warm radiant heat coming off of the wall after being beaten by the sun all day. He let in a deep breath, feeling as though he was breathing in familiar air, the warmth filled his lungs. As he let out the deep breath he said.

"Another hot day."

The haggard and rather dishevelled form of The Raggedy man could be seen rather easily by almost anyone that chose to approach the main entrance of Sunagakure, simply sitting back against the smooth, black melted sandstone on the right side of the chasm. He was on the first layer of the grand ‘staircase’, putting him 10m above the entrance itself, and while he was seated in the shade he would still be plainly visible to all due to the grey clothes that he wore. His dull red eyes simply watching the sky as the shades of red and violet almost seemed to dance together, the two shades enhancing each other but never truly mixing. He would briefly taking note of the single figure approaching from the distance, but they were still too far off for him to truly take note of their features without activating his Byakugan, something that he didn’t see the need to do when they would reach here anyway. From this distance all he could see was the fact that the figure was roughly as tall as his current form, and appeared to be a little more muscular… but they were still far too far away for him to actually note anything specific. As the stranger got within 20m of the gates the dishevelled guard would release a loud groan and begin to speak.

“That’s close enough stranger. Gonna need your name and your reason for coming here. I’m sure you can tell that the village is going through some issues based on our surroundings alone.” The hoarse and rather gravelly voice of the man would call out calmly, simply eyeing the man that stood so calmly amid the field of corpses. That wasn’t even getting into the blackened and somewhat melted nature of the wall that he sat upon.

Taichi was closing in on the village gates. A voice had called out to him, telling him to not get any closer, but he couldn't truly hear him. His mind was filled with the sight of Suna. The stench of death still ripe in the air. As he stood still, he looked to the side of the village entrance. He could see a pile of corpses that were stacked up on the staircases that acted as the gates to the village. The sight of his beloved home village in such condition made Taichi drop to his knees.

This was his first time seeing Suna since the battle that had taken place there. He knew the village was hit hard,  but never could he have imagined it was brought to the point that it was. Taichi became very numb to the world,  but seeing his home brought back all of his emotions at once Taichi shakily stood and faced the source of the voice that was sitting up on the higher parts of the wall.

"My reason is to come home, or by the looks of things, what's left of it. My name is Taichi Uchiha"

Hmm, it seemed that this stranger was not quite so calm about the sight of all the corpses as he had initially appeared, walking through the field of staked corpses until he got 20m in, before dropping down to his knees upon seeing that there were hundreds more staked along each level of the villages walls. It was quite strange really, how The Stranger seemed to completely ignore the destroyed state of the walls and the hundreds of easily visible corpses that had been staked around the area until he reached the point of Kenshin stopping him, and only then managing to lose all of his composure. Truth be told he cared very little about the strangers wellbeing, he simply wanted him to simply hurry it up, give his name and reason for wanting to enter, then moving on and leaving him to his solitude. Eventually he pulled himself up and essentially said he was a returning resident… one that went by the name Taishi Uchiha, the last name along being enough to catch the attention of The Raggedy Man. He certainly didn’t look like the stereotypical Uchiha, but he had met an Uchiha that looked quite similar in the past… Yurei, hmm, perhaps they were related. In the end it mattered not, he had no shortage of Uchiha corpses, and a living Uchiha could be far more useful to his plans, especially the plans that concern Hakumei.

“Alright then, welcome to Sunagakure Taishi. You can call me Stark, and I’m in the one that’s in charge of this little piece of heaven. You’re gonna find that things have changed quite a bit since you last visited. There really ain’t much in the way of law within these walls, so it’ll be up to you to defend yourself if you choose to enter. You can do basically whatever ya want, but there is one rule… don’t bite the hand that feeds ya, so in other words, don’t mess with me, my boss, or anyone that’s allied with him. If ya do you’ll find yourself as just another corpse to be added to the pile.” The Raggedy Man would say simply, as though he were simply talking about the weather, not describing the lawless dystopia that he lived with and threatening a traveller with death should they step out of line.

The man from the wall spoke of the horrid state Suna was in in such a matter of fact tone that it confused Taichi. The man, who asked to be called Stark, didn't seem to care about the fact that the village had been destroyed and there were a pile of bodies that laid on the massive stair steps that were the gates to the village. Stark then continued to explain that inside the walls it was lawless and was a complete dystopia with the same tone. Taichi listened as Stark spoke, being more and more conerned for the people that were left in Suna upon its destruction, what may have happened to the good people of Suna if it was completely soaked with crime.

Stark had left and Taichi continued to stand there at the gates of this once great village that he called home, and contemplated on whether or not he acutally wanted to enter into Suna and see what it had become. Taichi decided that it would be best for him to see his home once again, no matter it's current state. He walked through the gates and was anxious to see what it was now that Suna had to offer.
