Snooze Your Day Away [NK]
Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:22 pm
Sorey was currently at the library, using his free time to expand his knowledge rather than focus on improving his body. After all, he had spent the majority of last night meditating, practicing his chakra control to the best of his ability. Was it an intelligent decision? Well, he would say it depended entirely on who you asked. But let's be honest—it was not.
With such lack of sleep, the youth was left feeling rather exhausted, far more than usual considering he's always out and about. He struggled to maintain focus, eyes slowly fluttering as they glanced over the current page he was on. The numerous words laid out before him slowly became incomprehensible as his vision went in and out. ... Maybe closing my eyes for a little would help... he thought to himself, furrowing his eyebrows in mild frustration. Yeah. It'd be just for a moment, and then he could jump right back into the swing of things.
The young boy yawned and leaned back into his chair, gently setting his "Basics of Chakra" book over his face. Just for a moment...
It did not take long before quiet snores left his tiny frame, his breathing slow and his mind finally at ease.

With a book in his now healed right hand, Kaito made his way through the library. This morning he had elected to stroll the city with his regular outfit; fake elastic jeans, tucked into the bandages that replaced socks, which hugged his feet closely as a precaution for any needed violent movements a ninja may have to perform and prevented a muscle or tendon from pulling away from their anatomically needed position. His red mane of hair was knotted tightly at the top back of his head, with the Kumogakure no Sato headband across his forehead proudly. On his chest, the leather jacket with embroidered snake heads, covered by the authoritarian flak vest of the jounin, something that brought him pride and anxiety alike; women seemed much more willing to smile at him, and men would nodded at his passing as a sign of respect, but some of his fellow ninja didn't approve of his upjumped position in the village's ranks.
That's where the book in his hand had assisted Kaito; therein he had learned of the Eight Inner Gates, and by the grace of the book, he had managed to decipher the means of unlocking their potential. Now that he had the means of furthering is own potential, the book had fulfilled its purpose, and was ready to be returned. For that, he checked it in with the librarian at the front desk. However, something at the edge of perception bothered him. He looked around, and started following the sound that seemed to not belong.
Finally, he came by a young lad snoozing away at the library. Kaito couldn't blame him, really. Personally, he never found much interest in books, and the fact he had to rely on those as he grew up and studied left Kaito with the impression they were to blame on his less than stupendous career. Maybe this youth could have a head start, the one Kaito Felt he missed to be a successful ninja; but for that, he would have to be awake. Edging his feet to one of the front legs of the chair, he carefully lifted it off the ground and watched as it shifted its center of gravity to circle towards the floor, and waited to watch the youth's reaction to the situation.

Normally, Sorey struggled to fall asleep, as the idea of leaving himself vulnerable to outside threats... bothered him. Heavily. So, he trained his body to operate on limited amounts of energy, and to sleep as lightly as possible. There were even nights where he was forced to use sleep medication in order to fully relax, as his mind often refused to fall into a sense of security. Today was a special case however. The boy had been so mentally drained that he knocked out almost immediately, therefore completely unable to detect the stranger closing in.
Unbeknownst to him, the chair he was situated upon was suddenly tipped over, his body rapidly descending along with it. It was only after he met the hard ground that Sorey's eyes snapped open in pain and shock. With speed certainly not normal of an academy student, he scrambled to his feet, grasping the book that landed next to him on the way up. Immediately, he lifted his arms into a basic defensive stance while... apparently holding up his book like some kind of weapon. Burgundy eyes rapidly shot back and forth, the pain he felt on his side having amped up his adrenaline. Was he really under attack? Who? Where? Why was it so quiet? Wait, wasn't he supposed to be in the libr—
The boy froze.
Slowly, his gaze eventually met with that of a redheaded man, one that seemed to tower over him. However, that was not the main thing Sorey was focused on. Rather, he placed an abnormal amount of focus on the headband this stranger proudly displayed. A... shinobi? he wondered, with awe, confusion, and embarrassment all hitting like a tidal wave. In that very order.
He quickly straightened himself out, the book in his hand being treated less like a sword this time around. Not quite sure why a kumo nin of all people had chosen to approach him, the youth settled on merely bowing in apology for his... less than graceful actions. (However, he was hardly able to fight off his excitement at the same time. After all, he held the ninja of his village in high regard.) He then rose up and tilted his head in confusion, a silent message aimed at the newcomer. Why?

As the boy circled his way down to the floor, he seemed to be oblivious to the shift in his center of gravity, something that would be instinctive within the body to alert the brain and which should’ve elicited a reaction off the boy. However, by the time he hit the floor, he got himself up with alarming speed and agility which Kaito did not expect from such a young boy. “Impressive”, he thought to himself. The boy seemed to hold the book as though it were a sword, ready to attack any would-be attackers. Kaito could respect that much; even though he would already be dead if Kaito wanted to kill him, the instinct to fight and defend himself was praiseworthy in his opinion. The boy then seemed to notice his presence, and straightened himself just enough to look at him in confusion, tilting his head as though he were a lost puppy questioning his place in the universe. “A quiet one.”
“Only witches sleep during the day, kid.” That was something his mom would’ve said to him, when she forced him off the bed in the wee hours of the morning, forcing him out into the world to make himself useful. Dexterously, he grabbed the book off the youth’s hand. “Basics of Chakra. What a pain in the ass.” His mind vaguely remembered having to go through such a title in hopes of understanding the chakra network and how to manifest chakra in its most basic forms. He didn’t remember much of it, and most of his learning had come from experience and experimentation. To this day, his chakra was not as strong as most ninja’s, and the reason why he had dedicated himself to master his body in the physical arts rather than the chakra arts. But, the fact the boy was reading this book likely meant he was a student. “Are you an academy student? Are you learning the basics? Do you know any jutsu yet?” The questions came paced, but Kaito expected replies, expressed in his visage by furrowing his brow, eyeing the boy with a mean mug while extending the book back to him.

Was he meant to be a witch then or something?
Sorey was somewhat off-put by the stranger's initial response, which certainly did not help his already present confusion. (Was it some kind of saying? But then again, he could recall many times where other kids his age had taken naps during their classes. Were they witches too? ... How strange.) Although he subtly tensed at the man's sudden movement, curiosity shone within those reddish purple eyes of his. So he allowed the man to grab the book from his hands. A small part of him figured it would be more trouble than it was worth to do anything otherwise.
At the kumo's nin displeasure over his book though, he couldn't help but fight off a sense of agreement. After all, chakra was an enigma; it was amazing in it's own ways, yet infuriatingly complex in others. Even if he was only an academy student, feeling out his chakra was a challenge, and trying to learn/memorize all its different applications was... troublesome, to say the least. On top of that, he would later on need to conduct his own experimentation and find out which specific usage of chakra worked for him, and only him. Sorey was not stupid. He knew that it was overall a somewhat daunting task. Ah, but back to the matter at hand.
The stranger's questions were quick, but Sorey was completely focused. His fall from earlier had an effect similar to caffeine: it forced him to become more alert. As such, he responded with small, universally understood gestures. Are you an academy student? He nodded his head. Are you learning the basics? Once again, he nodded. Do you know any jutsu yet?
"..." he had faltered with his response, shame practically slapping him across the face. It was a topic he'd been teased about in the academy, seeing as he tried so desperately to achieve academic success. But how could he possibly reach his goal when he hasn't even grasped the basic academy jutsu? Lowering his head somewhat, the youth shook his head 'no,' not even acknowledging the book in front of him. Obviously embarrassed, he brought his hands together and played with his thumbs, not exactly keen on admitting his shortcomings in front of a village shinobi. The very group of people he looked up to... what a mess.

“Are you an academy student?”
The youth nodded his head.
“Are you learning the basics?”
Without hesitation, another nod.
“Do you know any jutsu yet?”
Hesitation; it spelled trouble, and with the same brush, it painted a picture of a boy anxious to triumph, trying to run when he was barely able to walk properly. When the boy lowered his head in shame, Kaito could see a very strong reflection of his own self. The lagging behind in his own class had been the reason why he placed such emphasis on his physical prowess, and his inability to mold chakra as easily as his counterparts pushed him further away from the militaristic branch of the village and into civilian life.
Kaito was not about to let another student be let down by the broken systems in place.
“Hey now, you don’t need to let it put you down so much. Every adult knows how to tie their shoes, but they had to learn how to do it, right? C’mon, let’s give you a hand with this.” He held the book higher in his hands, closer to his face, and flipped through the book, trying to find the reference about kneading chakra. Bla bla bla… chakra points… bla bla bla… rotation… bla bla bla… hm, ok.
Kaito closed the book, and set it down on the table. “Alright. Here’s the deal.” He leaned into the table and sat on it partially, half sitting half leaning, looking at the kid in front of him. He didn’t even know his name, nor did the kid know his, but that was a matter for another day. “In order to learn jutsu, you will need to know how to mold chakra inside of your body. You say you know how the basics of chakra. The best way to mold chakra inside of your body and fortify your chakra, is to twirl it in a tight circle inside of your own body. If you can figure out the way your hair twirls at the back of your head, you can figure out the easiest way of twirling chakra inside your own body. Was that clear, or should I go further into this matter?”
Truth be told, he was mostly saying back some of the stuff he had read in the book. However, it didn’t mean they were useless. He would try and spy more stuff from the book if the kid didn’t have questions. He was actually interested in how a mute kid would express his doubts, considering Kaito didn’t know sign language.

As Kaito explained the situation to the kid, the librarian lady called out to Kaito, regarding a supposed tear on the book and possible penalty to pay for it. “Oh, come on, that book’s ancient, of course it has tears!” He turned to the kid. “Keep practicing, I’ll be back soon.” With that, he left the scene to speak to the library lady.
