Splitting Threads
Sun Jan 26, 2020 1:49 pm
Kizaru sat at the desk in his apartment looking at his scrap wood blocks. His new legs both ached, but his right one hurt in particular. The stab he received during the chuunin exams was still healing, and his encounter with Yen only slowed the healing process. The boy had been spending a lot of time at home working on his puppets. Physical training was painful, but he couldn't just do nothing. Outside of the academy, it was up to him to make himself stronger. If he stayed the way he was he was going to keep getting hurt. Keep getting hospitalized.
He hated feeling helpless. Lying in a hospital bed was humiliating to Kiz. Usually in a time like this he would work on a new design; Spend days sketching and tossing out designs until something looked good. This time however he needed to improve himself. He needed to be able to protect himself and properly attack at the same time.
Two puppets at once, like Rake and Alucard, was good for basic situations but in a more challenging fight, he needed more firepower. The problem with that was control. He could only handle two complicated puppets at a time, but he knew he could improve. A skilled Puppeteer can split the threads on the ends of their fingers and control each one separately. He just needed to figure out how to do that, which was a lot harder than it sounded. Kizaru thought it was a simple concept but the reality was mind numbing. Just making the threads themselves takes pinpoint accuracy with ones chakra flow. Doing two at once was like pulling his fingers in two different directions.
Kiz stood up and kicked one of the blocks of wood. He was frustrated with himself, but it wasn't just that. He was starting to get mad at the world, at people around him. He never asked for any of the violence in his life. First he watched his parents die and then he moved from the orphanage to the military. It all happened quickly thinking back on it. He saw an opportunity to make something of himself and leave his orphan days behind and he jumped at it. He didn't regret joining the academy, but he was wondering if it was still the right choice. He told himself it was his way of repaying the leaf village for helping him, but what did that even mean?
All the leaf really did for him was give him a bed and a roof. Life at the orphanage wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't paradise. It was growing up with almost no supervision, nobody paying attention. Hardly a happy life. He was thankful for it nonetheless, but he wasn't sure he was willing to sacrifice the life they saved, for the village's interests.
As Kiz paced around the room, stewing in his anger, he felt a tug on his pant leg. It was Kimchi, now on the floor, looking straight up at him. The little tamarin had a stern look on his face. It made Kiz stop and pulled him out of the angry fog he was in. "Hey bud. Sorry I was bringing the room down wasn't I?" He would say leaning down to pick the monkey up. Kimchi climbed up from Kizaru's arm and onto his shoulder. "I just have a lot on my mind lately that's all. Thank you for worrying though little guy." He reached up a finger and pet Kimchi's head. The monkey was always there to brighten his mood when he began to drift.
Both of their stomachs growled at the same time and Kiz chuckled. "You hungry buddy? I can get back to training some other time. Let's go eat." He would say, making Kimchi very excited. The monkey hopped off of Kiz's shoulder and began jumping up and down. "You want ramen again? Who am I kidding, I already know that's a yes." Since the first time Kiz had taken him to Ichiraku, the sides they sold had become Kimchi's favorite.
"Alright let's go then." He would say as they walked out the door together.
