Mission: I'm a Janitor, Baby [D-Rank] (Inv)
Tue Feb 11, 2020 5:38 pm
Mission 5
Katsu walked into the mission office wearing a black jacket with black pants. His short black hair unruly and poking out above his headband that was slanted across his forehead slightly to the left. He approached the desk where a chuunin sat looking through a number of mission scrolls. He knew he was probably going to get another dumb easy mission, but was really hoping to finally get a mission where he could use his skills. The chuunin glanced up at Katsu, he had seen the boy many times, though it was rare for him to be alone. He pulled out a scroll and started to hand it over to Katsu. “Can you give me a D-rank this time? We have done a lot of E-rank missions recently and want to try something a little more difficult.” He had tried to sound ernest but he wasn’t sure if he pulled it off. The chuunin glanced at him briefly then took the scroll back, putting it down and handing Katsu a different one.
Katsu stepped out of the office and reread the mission dossier for the second time. “Apparently we need to clean up after a dead body. A dead body!” His voice came out extremely aggressively at the end, not sure how he was supposed to deal with this. Neither he nor his brother had ever seen a dead body before and they were supposed to dispose of one and then clean up after it. He reached down, clutching his stomach as he felt nauseous at the idea.
Masaru’s head poked up next to his brothers, “We are shinobi. We may have to make dead bodies. We finally have a real mission. Pull yourself together.” He retracted his head, once again vanishing from sight, leaving Katsu alone again, at least that it looked like to anyone who could see the boy.
Katsu started off toward the prison, “Big words for someone who just retreated into my body!” This caused a lot of glances to turn his way as he looked like he was yelling at nothing but air. Katsu was beyond used to getting the looks though, and pressed on ignoring them all. “You can’t get out of this either you know! If you won’t touch the corpse, neither will I!” His words continued to be shouted into the middle of the city disturbing everyone he passed.
As he arrived at the prison he stopped and glanced around. He was supposed to meet another genin here. He had met Asuma once before, but he honestly couldn’t remember much about him. Maybe his brother would remember him. “Masaru, get out here. You don’t get to hide from this mission anymore then I do. I will walk away and we will fail this thing if you don’t participate.”
The top of Masaru’s head slowly began to grow out of his right shoulder. It took form much slower than usual, his reluctance obvious to Katsu. Finally his head and neck finished forming. “I know. I can’t run from this either, but can I stay like this? I will help, but I don’t know if I could make myself walk in there.” He knew his voice carried the shame he currently felt. He was supposed to be a shinobi, but he was letting something like this get to him.
Katsu nodded, “Of course. We do this together.” Katsu didn’t want to do this either, but if this was bothering his brother so much, he had no choice but to step up. Masaru had helped him countless times, if he needed help, Katsu would give it to him. He leaned against the prison wall waiting for Asuma.

Another day, another mission. The carrier hawk had landed on the window next to Asuma’s bed and began pecking to get his attention, he had just dressed in his usual high collar attire the Uchiha symbol looking nice and clean and vibrant on his back. He opened the window and took the letter from his limb watching as the bird flew away, it was from the administration building about a mission he had been selected to participate in with a boy he had met before. It was that strange set of twins again, Asuma sighed as he threw the letter away headed out his door.
As he walked he read the details of the mission to himself, apparently it seemed that the two genin were tasked with cleaning up the execution chambers which had recently been used. Death and Blood. Asuma was familiar though he had never killed anyone he had witnessed it in his early years of life, his father had killed many would be attackers in Asuma’s presence. He had thought about his father a lot lately, he wanted to make sure he became as splendid a shinobi as his father had been during his lifetime. Asuma could see the prison facility coming into view and in the distance by the wall of the prison entrance was one of the twin boys, that’s when he remembered the strange morphing ability where the two could become one at will. Upon reaching the gate Asuma would look at his comrade with his normal emotionless and not caring appearance as he spoke calmly, “So…” he would briefly pause not long enough though for an interjection “You again huh?” He would then await to hear how his partner might respond to his arrival, of Asuma did not care he simply wanted to complete the mission and get on to more training if he could.

Masaru noticed Asuma first, turning to face the boy. Noticing his movement, Katsu turned his body slightly in that direction, seeing Asuma just before he spoke. He recognized him, and recalled that they had sparred, but for the life of him he didn’t remember how it had ended. At his words, Katsu smiled, unable to help himself. “Yep, we again.” After saying it he realized it sounded decidedly stupider than he had intended. But what was done was done.
Katsu forged ahead, “Asuma right?” He gave a little wave before continuing to speak. He gestured to himself, “Katsu if you forgot.” Masaru’s head then spoke up, “Masaru.” The twins took their weight off the wall, standing up straight. Katsu noticing that Asuma had a few inches on him which annoyed him, but he didn’t let it show, or tried not to. A slight grimace passed over his face for a brief moment before he reigned it in. Asuma looked to be a few years older than him, so it was to be expected.

Asuma not caring much for anything to do with this mission merely nodded yes when asked his name confirmation, then walked into the execution chamber they were commissioned to clean. The blood on the floor was beginning to blacken as it had been there a few day, the stench from the body was a bit unbearable as Asuma walked to the mop bucket and janitor cart. He took out a body bag and tossed it to his teammate, he didn’t really pay attention to whether or not the boy had caught the bag. He instead had turned to the mop bucket grabbing the mop and ringing the water out just enough to not make a sopping mess, he then proceeded to mop the blood from the floor. Asuma was having to scrub a bit though due to the blood having hardened and stained itself to the ground, but he was able to get it to release and as his dipped the mop into the cleaning water he watched the water become a bucket of red. However he continued to mop the spots walking around the room going from corner to corner scrubbing the floor, it was a ridiculous job for a shinobi Asuma thought to himself. He maintained his normal composure despite hating every minute of this ‘waste of time mission’ he thought, but tried to focus on the mission and get it over with.
Asuma was in the far corner when he looked back to see how his teammate was doing with loading up the body for disposal.

Katsu watched as Asuma nodded and walked by, not engaging them at all. He glanced at his brother who did his best to shrug with his face, not having any arms, much less shoulders, but Katsu understood even if nobody else would understand the facial expression. He then followed after Asuma, lagging behind slightly as he really didn’t want to go in to see the dead body. The trip through the prison was short lived though, and they arrived at the execution chamber much quicker than he or his brother would have liked.
The scene before their eyes filled the two with terror. Blood lay pooled and congealed on the floor, a thick stench of decay in the air assaulting their nostrils as they struggled not to gag. Katsu’s hand covered his nose and mouth, a hand and forearm growing out of his left pectoral and covering Masaru’s, as the two tried to fend off the smell. Small flies buzzed around the corpse, which lay face down about ten feet from them. They didn’t mean to stop moving, but Katsu’s feet felt leaden and he hadn’t managed to actually step foot into the room. Their attention came back to the job at hand as a body bag came sailing through the air toward them, landing at their feet.
The twin’s who had focused on the bag for a moment, looked up and saw Asuma getting right to business as if this scene was nothing to him. At first Katsu was angry and wanted to shout out what was wrong with him. He wanted to ask him how this didn’t bother him. But he stopped himself. He didn’t really know Asuma, or what he might have been through. He couldn’t imagine the type of childhood he must have had for this to not bother him. Instead of saying anything, he bent down and picked up the back, slowly making his way to the body.
The stench grew with each step. As he walked Masaru’s other arm grew out of Katsu’s right pectoral and took the place of Katsu’s own hand covering his mouth. Katsu was going to need both his hands for this, so while it wasn’t much, it was the least Masaru could do to help his brother.
Reaching the body, Katsu unzipped the body bag and laid it on the floor beside it. It was obviously the body of a man, but he couldn’t afford to think of it as a person. Bending down, he placed a shaky hand on the body’s shoulder. It was cold, so much colder than a body had a right to be. He nearly pulled his hand back, but he forced himself forward, grabbing his other shoulder and pulling. A squelching sound followed as the body was pulled from the congealed blood that had left it stuck to the ground. Small bits of flesh where the man’s throat had been cut stuck and tore free from the movement. Katsu’s voice was low as he continued to pull the body trying to get it into the body bag without flipping it over so he didn’t have to see its face. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
The hand covering Masaru’s face moved and reached down to help his brother. He didn’t want to, but he couldn’t make his brother do this alone. He placed his hand on the corpse’s side. “We have to roll it.” He could feel the hesitation in his brother, but Katsu’s hand left the bodies left shoulder and together, they rolled the body over and into the bag.
The dead man’s eyes stared up at them. He wasn’t just a body anymore, this was a person. A dead person. Instead of being horrified, they felt sad. They were sad that this man had to die even though they didn’t know him. They were sad that they knew this wouldn’t be the last corpse they would see, and that next time it could be someone they cared about.
Katsu reached down and closed the dead man’s eyes before zipping up the bag. He looked to Masaru who had a steely expression on his face that matched his own. They didn’t have to say anything they both knew what the other was thinking. They wouldn’t let it be someone they cared about. The moment passed, and then the two were back to being fourteen year old boys.
Katsu sprinted across the room, making a beeline toward the janitor’s cart, tracking a small amount of blood behind him. “Ewww eww eww that was gross! Get it off, get it off.” Masaru was saying much the same as the two spoke over each other about how gross that was. They grabbed disinfectant spraying their hands liberally, then noticed a sink a few feet away. They turned the water on full blast, drenching there hands and arms in the water as they poured soap over them and scrubbed vigirously trying to get them clean. Even once they had assuredly scrubbed themselves clean they continued to wash unable to get the feeling of the body out of their minds.

With the floor mopped and the twins finally finished with their personal delima, Asuma spoke as calm as always “Well that’s it i’m done, so I’ll turn in my mission paperwork on the way home.” he then left the prison with the same lack of enthusiasm as he had brought with him.

The twins heard Asuma speaking about being finished and finally stopped washing their hands. At least they tried to stop, but they couldn’t help but feel as if they still had something gross on their hands. They weren’t sure how much more time passed, but they did eventually stop. Turning to find Asuma gone.
Katsu turned his head to look at Masaru, “Where did he go?” Masaru thought for a moment, trying to make sense of what Asuma had said during their frenzied scrubbing. “I think he said he was done.” They thought on this for a moment, before they realized the body was still laying in a bag on the floor. In unison they both said the only thing they could think of. “Shit.”
Before going to the body, they noticed they had left a small trail of blood behind them in their dash across the room. They quickly wiped it up. After what they had just done, having to clean up a little blood or drag a body bag around didn’t seem too bad. Compared to having to touch it, this was nothing. Masaru separated himself from his brother, and walked over to a gurney, and rolled it over to Katsu who had gone to stand next to the body.
Together they lifted the bag up, it was easier to just think of it like a bag, and placed it on top of the gurney. Then they rolled it out of the execution chamber and toward the room directly across from it. This room had a large furnace that was used for this express purpose, body disposal. The two did their best, to keep pretending that all they had with them was a bag, as they stepped up to the furnace which had already been set a blaze for this very purpose. They each placed a hand on opposite sides of the bag, and as one, they lifted the body. They realized now they hadn’t really thought this through though. It wasn’t like they could just put their hands in the fire.
Katsu was the first to speak, “Do we just toss it in?” Masaru looked at him, feeling disgusted by the thought, then realized he didn’t have a better idea. “I guess…” He trailed off, not liking the idea, but not seeing another option. Katsu, seeing his brother’s discomfort decided to hurry it along, “On three. One, two, three!” As one they tossed the body into the furnace.
Neither felt like discussing what they had done on this mission as they returned the gurney and left the prison in order to turn in their mission. They knew that this was something they wouldn’t soon forget. They had touched a dead body, and had to dispose of the body. They didn’t know if this would be the last time, but they both had a feeling that they would one day become intimate with death. That being said, neither thought it was something they would ever be truly comfortable with.
