Task: You find yourself in a small town in the middle of nowhere, not large enough to be even a blip on the radar of any of the major villages or anyone of note. The townsfolk are naturally distrusting of outsiders and as such have been nothing but cold to you since your arrival. But one particular man approaches you with an offer and a promise of a decent payday. Apparently his wife was being unfaithful with one of the other men in town, and he wanted you to go beat that man to a pulp. He specifically instructed you to beat him badly, but not to kill him, as a way to teach him a lesson… but it is up to you whether you follow these instructions. Do you do as he asks and beat the man to a pulp? Do you sell him out? Do you kill the man and blackmail the one who hired you? As usual the choice, and the consequences, are yours.
A slight stinging sentation continuously crept up from Shinrahs hand as he traveled along the land of fires borders. He has been doing some training in the forests a few days walk from the leaf village for sometime. During one his training sessions, practicing a new fire style ninjutsu, he had burned his hand. The burn on his hand wasnt too severe, a home herb mixture he learned from his mother to stave off infection and a piece of cloth fron his torn jacket was all he needed. The jutsu he had been trying to primarily learn was one detailed in one of the scrolls left behind by his old sensei. It involved focusing chakra to the palm of your hand and applying the fire element to that chakra to create a throwable ball of fire from ones palm. Shinrah had read the scroll thoroughly, but for some reason he had been unable to properly focus the chakra to his palm either putting in too much or too little.
The fact he had repeatedly failed to perform what seemed like a simple technique angered him beyond comprehension. The scroll had contained one other technique, the smoke veil technique, and Shinrah had picked that one up rather effortlessly. So why he could not seem to grasp the second technique was beyond him. It weighed heavily so much on his mind that he had not immediately noticed the small town now only a few kilometers from where he stood. Upon actually noticing the small little settlement of wooden buidlings Shinrah ultimately decided to pay a visit to the town's bar. Places like that were often good places to find things like information, contracts and yes, even a decent brew every now and again goes a long way.
Upon entering the little village, Shinrah could tell the inhabitants werent too accustomed to strangers wandering in from the stares he received. Upon entering the place of drink, Shinrah took a seat at the end of the bar. Almost immediately the bartender approached him and offered him something unexpected.
"Your not from around here are you?" The bartender said intriguingly. Without a single hint of emotion Shinrah replied, "What? Got some sort of problem with outsiders?"
The man let out a quiet chuckle before leaning down and continuing, "Actually I got a job for you if your interested. One of the other villagers has been sleepin' around on my wife. Rough him up a little for me would ya? A man with an acceptable establishment such as myself cant be invested in such acts as im sure you understand. An unknown party like yourself however can do as he pleases. How about 1000 ryo once the deed is done?" The man had been sure to talk quietly and was careful that no one else heard him speak. Shinrah thought it over for a few moments and while getting into petty ordeals like this was usually out of the question, money talked. Shinrah simply nodded.
A few moments later the bartender stepped away, returning with a quite fine looking glass of sake. He sat it down on the counter in front of Shinrah, in place of a coaster however, the picture of another man, tan skinned with dark hair probably late 20s early 30s. Shinrah nodded, took a sip of the sake and slid the picture into his coat pocket, intent on finishing his drink before getting to business. After a few more sips, he modded to the bartender, and bid his farewells before walking out of the door back out into the town square. As he walked down the streets he could hear the grumbles of the townsfolk, he paid them no mind. Making his way to an alley between two townhouses, he retrieved the picture the bartender had given him and looked it over once more. On the back, he noticed that the bartender had written him a brief note that read, "his house is near the southern road at the edge of the village. Only one with a brick foundation. Oh, and leave him alive please."
Shinrah put the note back into his jacket pocket and continued out of the alley toward the southern road. "Leave him alive? Why? He's trampling your very character at its core and you wanna leave him alive? How pathetic. Whatever though, your the one paying in the end after all." Shinrah thought to himself as he stretched his arms behind his head. It didnt take long before he was at the southern road, taking a quick look around, the house with the brick foundation was easy to spot and was only about a hundred meters from the souther road leading out of the village. Shinrah approached the house after a few moments and, deciding to get things done "quietly" proceeded to kick the door free of its hinges gaining access to the dwelling immediately.
The individual in question was now standing before him, sweat and a shocked expression now taking over his face. The man grabbed a dagger from his belt, and with a gulp finally spoke to the emotionless young man in front of him. "Y.. You better leave. I swear ill use this!" The man trembling as he spoke. Shinrah showed no emotion, only steel resolve as he stepped foward close into the mans space, grabbing hold of his armed hand with one motion and planting a solid open palm strike to the mans midsection using his free hand with another motion. This was enough to topple the man over and plant him on the ground as well as his force him to loosen his grip on the knife dropping the blade as his back smacked against the wooden floor. The man was actually quite quick in his recovery however, almost immediately getting up and attempting to push past Shinrah out the now permanently opened front door. Shinrah was ready however, and with a swift side kick as soon as the man got up he easily planted him back onto the ground. This time the man did not immediately get up, instead he began to plead. "Wh.. What do you want?"
"I dont want anything from you, just... Doing a job. Sorry." Shinrah said with a cold emotionless expression before stomping down hard on one of the mans ankles snapping it like twig. The man screamed in pain, before Shinrah grab him by his throat muffling his cries. At this point Shinrah contemplated just crushing the mans wind pipe and calling it a day but instead chose to knock him out cold with a sold blow to the temple. "Guess you get to live since thats the job." Afterwhich Shinrah figured he should grab some sort of trophy to give to the bartender to show proof he had done the job. He grabbed the dagger the man had previously weilded, now noticing initials branded into the hilt figuring that would do just fine, he returned to the bar at the center of town.
By now many of the patrons that had been in the bar had left and only a handful stil remained drinking away whatever sorrows they had. The bartender this time immediately greeted him and asked him to have a seat, pouring him another round of sake. "Well?" The bartender asked quickly and quietly. Shinrah merely nodded in response, nonchalantly sliding the intialed dagger acrossed the bar counter. The man only needed to look at it for a moment before he handed the payment over no questions asked. After a few moments, Shinrah finished his drink and took his leave headed for the northern exit out of town.
