Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

Fri Sep 11, 2020 10:52 pm
As soon as Zaine would begin to open the door Musu would smile to the shinobi. He had made it to the right place. He waited for him to finish his explanation and greet Musu before the ninja would reply to him. “Hello! My name is Musu! Raleth gave me an invitation and I’ve never been to a pot luck before. I thought that everything was supposed to be cooked here to be honest, I wanted everything to be as fresh as possible!” Musu would exclaim as he walked into the ninja's humble abode. The area was quaint and clean for Musu’s standards as he made his way towards the kitchen. “I guess thats why I’m the first one here, I figured it would take a few hours to get my food prepared and others would be here prepping as well, thank you letting me use your space to do my work, I promise I won’t disturb you.” Musu would say as he bagan to take note of the different items and cooking utensils in the area. What Zaine had wasn’t much but it would be enough for Musu to make a perfect roasted chicken….

Should anyone watch Musu as he began his “work” they would witness the man prepare the chicken in the same manner his parents would when he lived out in his hut. First, he would gut the insides of the chicken, taking out all the bits and goodies still fresh within it so that it would be completely hollow. He would place the gizzards, liver, and other bits that could be made into a stew into a bowl and place it to the side. After that he would use the sharpest knife in the room to cut through the top of neck, severing the head from the body and then tying the head up to not allow moisture to escape. Next, using butter and the variety of herbs that were at his disposal Musu would begin to baste and prepare the bird to be placed into the oven for cooking. These herbs were all thanks to Sandy and were picked up with the bird at the store: Sage, Pepper, a touch of lavender, thyme, and just a hint of saffron all delicately spread out on the outside and the cavity that was created.Thankfully there was a large enough bowl that the bird could be placed in. After the bird was placed in the bowl and basted with butter and the herbs properly, he would add a bit of water to the bottom of the bowl and place the other bits of the bird into a seperate cloth and place that inside the cavity. This would add a bit of meaty and earthy flavor to the bird while also making a delicious broth that was used to keep the bird moist whilst it was in the oven. Satisfied with the prepping he would lay cheesecloth on top of the bird and place it into the oven, it would take about 90 minutes for the chicken to be fully cooked, and after every 15 minutes musu would use a mitt to take the bowl out of the oven, ladle the broth over the bird, and place it back in the oven. Should everything be done correctly the chicken should be ready about 15 minutes after the so called beginning of the pot luck.

Should anyone come into the room whilst Musu was making the bird they would be greeted by Musu who would remain by the bird and the oven the entire time. If they wanted to engage in talk, they would, but if the bird or the cooking of the chicken was in any way hindered Musu would respond, potentially violently for their transgression.

Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

Sun Sep 13, 2020 8:30 pm
While she had asked Kenshin to change and dress appropriately Mizuki only changed a few things about her appearance - replacing the hat and drawn back hair for letting the sleek ashen hair flow over her shoulders and down to her lower back, she kept her outfit almost identical too just simply dressed up a little with her old open black Kimono that she wore open and flowing over top the wrapped gauze and shorts look she wore daily. It was all in aid of the moon that shone off her skin causing her complexion to glow - it was definitely nearing the point of blood lust and she had yet to satiate the need. While having Kenshin would have been easy it had given her issues last time… nightmares and visions of horror as the blood had been warped by years of torture and his lineage; but it got the job done. This night however was going to be her testing grounds, perhaps she would find someone enticing here? With her arm looped loosely through his she pursed her lips for a thoughtful moment - preparing her choice of words carefully- before finally musing aloud. “I’m feeling rather parched tonight… I hope the selection of drinks suits my needs.” It would be meaningless had anyone been listening, mundane and pointless really… but Kenshin would know simply by looking into her eyes which were almost completely filled in red with just the hint of a violet ring bleeding down from the edges of the outer iris. No one was in danger until they were smothered completely in red. That was all she said during their walk and soon enough they were arriving.

Knock knock knock.

She straightened herself up and put on her most soothing expression - pressing herself to be able to put the new people at ease - for her presence at the initial meeting could be intense; pair that with the presence of The Ragdoll at her side … and the combination was palpable. The door swung open and the blast of trapped air came rushing out to greet her - a mixture so potent she couldn’t help but take in a sharp intake of breath in shock - her face remained porcelain smooth and nonreactive while she was picking apart everything her senses could gather. The answer-er was a taller man she only seen once as he took the Assessment…and it seemed he remembered her - at least at face value. It was his expression that brought the warm smile to her face, conveying her pleasure in his initial composure being shaken, though her lips never pulled back far enough to show the fangs. As the man stepped aside she would slip her arm out of Kens’ and walk forward first - taking lead and command of the attention the sudden attitude change of their Host would bring; anyone who had witnessed the energy shift in that instant would be at least curious what would garner it. As she passed over the threshold she would lock eyes with him and allow it to remain unbroken until she completely passed him into the living room - speaking in her usual enticingly sweet voice, “Thanks for hosting, should be an eventful night.”

Eyes sweeping the room she would spot him -Guren- Her blood brother, to him she would reveal a full smile and actual joy at seeing - moving through the room she would set the dish down on the table haphazardly and quickly make her way to the Chinoike. She had heard more of the man than she had seen of him and it was long overdue - giving him a light punch on the arm she would tease, “Where have you been holed up? Are you under strict appointment only access now?” She would only remain by his side until the conversation subsided enough for her attention to be drawn to the pair of eyes that watched with cautious curiosity. Though she never outwardly acknowledged his gaze it was in the back of her mind a she wandering the rooms of the communal area - Living room with all the decorations and trinkets on shelves with the cozy atmosphere, Dining room containing the large table and the adjoining kitchen; where the funny Uzumaki stood guarding the stove. Mizu gave him an inclined nod before offhandedly commenting that, “I’ll leave space in the middle for your dish.”, and turned with an amused look on her face as she went to grab her dish and set it near the middle as well. The eyes were still tracking her movement through the home so she instead leaned against the edge of the table and closed her eyes - completely enveloping her senses in the sound of multiple heartbeats and very distinguished smells.

The familiar were the easiest to pick from the room, Kenshin smelled faintly of Rich Aged Alcohol, old worn leather and Charred Bones. Guren was less familiar but still with little effort she was able to pick it out as well- Dusty books, dark rum and ginger. Even the Uzumaki had somewhat a familiar scent - Fresh sage, lemongrass, and hot iron… but it was the newest and most vigilant member of Sunagakure, Zaine, that held her attention this night. His heart beat was quickened from their arrival and beat at just a few paces faster than the rest of the rooms' more relaxed pace; even if she had ignored that moment of surprise he had yet to stop watching either Kenshin or herself only marking him further. As she leaned she took deeper and deeper breaths picking out the new unfamiliar scent - Cherry Tobacco, Rain and Warm paper. As she labeled them in her head she would walk over to where Zaine would be, if mid conversation she would wait until an opening and insert herself into his attention, “Hello again, Mizuki, I didn’t introduce myself earlier I was just so excited to see into your home and then I saw my old friend Guren, my manners completely left me.” She would continue making eye contact and quickly looking elsewhere as she made her points, purposely drawing attention to her eyes as she spoke, “While I hate to impose… I was hoping to get a bite to eat at some point tonight? Wondering if we could start eating soon.” The signal would be clear enough to those who know what to listen for.

If agreed she would motion for Kenshin to take a seat as she chose the middle seat on the far side of the table so her back was facing the wall, gathering the length of her open kimono and sweeping it to the side, settling into her seat and leaning her chin on her intertwined hands to watch as the room chose their places as well.

This would soon be overshadowed by the arrival of a personality so large it demanded its own dramatic entry- and over-encumbered fruit trays. The Old Man could have walked around Suna for hours peddling and still have enough fruit left over at the end of the night - perhaps overkill levels but the offers were artfully done and as enticing to look at as it was to smell the glistening arrangements. The man greeted people as he went around the table, unloading his offering onto the table where he could fit things and she watched with an endearing eye as he stiffened same as Zaine had and bowed at Kenshin who undoubtedly sat to either side of her - the scent of freshly tilled soil, orange peel, and Chai was strongly present in the room now as Raleth was the new comer to the aroma she had already grown accustomed to. His arrival was soon to mark a distinctly unforeseen twist in her evening, and this became more evident as he would place three kegs on the table interspersed throughout the food - marked with caricature monkeys; Dizzy Monkey, Sleepy Monkey, and Screaming Monkey. Her eyes surveyed the labels for a few moments before determining that there was nothing to signify what each drink would taste like so… with a shake of her head she would grab one of the dark glasses that sat empty in front of her setting and lean over to fill up on the ‘Screaming Monkey’

She would hold off on drinking it though so as to join in a toast when everyone had sat and made their selections - a proper kick off to the evening.

Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

Mon Sep 21, 2020 9:49 pm
To his expectation, Guren would smile would Zaine opened the front door and greeted him in such warming fashion. Truthfully Guren hadn't been used to receiving such heartfelt welcomes. To Zaine it likely wasn't much, but to Guren it was a needed sign of friendship. "Thanks for having me." He returned the smile to Zaine and made his way inside as instructed. He couldn't help but notice that Zaine's face seemed to light up upon receiving a whiff of the aroma the cornbread carried with it. Pleasant, Guren thought as he had finally smelled it for the first time while bearing its container in his hand. Now inside, Guren calmly panned his vision across the room. It would seem as if he had been one of the first to arrive. He walked over to the kitchen and placed the pan of cornbread upon the counter next to the stuffed bell peppers which gave off a fresh and fruitful fragrance.

Within the kitchen he saw someone he hadn't yet met. He was only slightly shorter than Guren, but seemed to be a bit older. And also quite focused on the meal at hand he was preparing. At this point he had been turned and focused on cooking his chicken. Guren simply placed a hand on his shoulder and exchanged a slight laugh. "I only just prepared my food too," Guren admitted with a sigh of relief knowing he wasn't the only one. "You got this though bro. I'm Guren by the way." When the man would introduce himself as Musu, Guren would smile and nod. It was nice to meet him, as he had been another shinobi of Sunagakure. But Guren would not spend too much time in the kitchen, as he wanted to continue to the dining room.

Shortly after, he began to escort himself to the dining room before being tightly squeezed by yet another familiar face: Raleth. Guren was again surprised by the pleasantries he was offered today, yet wasn't entirely sure how to react by the whole hug his comrade offered him. He somewhat awkwardly returned the hug by placing his arms around the torso of Raleth and offering a light squeeze. Strangely enough, Raleth walked away right after hugging him without offering so much as a word. Guren couldn't help but chuckle to himself. "Nice to see you too Raleth."

As Guren finally entered the dining room he would come across Mizu who hit him with an amiable punch right upon his shoulder. Taking the punch from Mizuki, he thought to himself that even such a light tap was a demonstration of the fire inside of her. Always so spunky and sassy, he couldn't help but smile. She inquired about where he had been lately, and it was true that he was a bit "MiA" lately. Likely due to his own self - prescribed isolation. He had been in his own head, books, and studies as of late, teaching himself the fundamentals of several practices he might be able to equip himself with. "Ah, just been here and there you know? Always good to see you though my friend," he responded heartily. "What about you? Takes exclusive to know exclusive," Guren said, implying that Mizuki was just as secretive and detached that he was at times. But it was playful, nothing more. He was certain she might get her own laugh out of it.

When their conversation concluded, Guren would make his way over to Kenshin, who had made a special guest appearance alongside Mizu. Guren himself smiled at the potential of what that might mean. "Hey, Kenshin. Good to see you were able to make it here and take some time away from work. Hope you enjoy the evening Lord Kazekage." He would remain in Kenshin's vicinity until the two adjourned their introduction.

Finally Guren would make his way over towards the table, sitting himself at a seat furthest from the kitchen. He would wait til everyone was arrived and people started serving himself with food and drink before he would too help himself. In the meantime, he sat in his own thoughts while casually observing the activities within the function.

Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

When the door opened Kenshin would see an the unfamiliar face of a tan young man who introduced himself as Zaine Uchiha, and while the face itself was not familiar the name was, as it was the name of one of the Chunin of the village… and while he didn’t recognise all Chunin by names, he did take the time to remember most… especially those from clans such as the Uchiha.

“A pleasure to meet you Zaine, my name is Kenshin. I look forward to getting to know you and the others here tonight.” The Ragdoll would say with a small smile on his face, not his usual amused smirk, but a true smile.

When the man stepped aside Mizuki would slip her arm free of his and step into the room, something that caused his smile to slip into that typical smirk and follow her in, looking over his shoulder towards Zaine as the man spoke. He would smile at the words, and honestly he was glad to see the people of his village so warm and open towards guests, especially those that they didn’t know… heh, he was getting soft… but, perhaps that wasn’t a bad thing.

“If you will excuse me, there are a couple of people I would like to catch up with inside. I would love the opportunity to speak with you later though.” The Reaper would say to Zaine, before turning and walking further into the room. For the most part it seemed everyone was doing their own thing, and with a small smile Kenshin stood there for a few moments, simply basking in the friendly atmosphere… it was not something he was used to feeling, and truthfully… while he didn’t exactly enjoy it… he didn’t hate it or dislike it. Heh, maybe one day as he grew more accustomed to this he would be the one to enjoy stuff like this… Han would never believe it.

When Guren made his way over Kenshin would smile a bit brighter, extending his hand to shake Gurens almost without thought.

“Yes, Mizuki practically dragged me out of my office for this, but I must say, I am enjoying it so far, even if nothing of note has happened yet… it is nice to see the people of Sunagakure getting along so well.” Kenshin would say in response, responding after Guren mentioned time off work, but before he could call him Lord Kazekage, something that he could practically feel.

When Mizuki asked about food Kenshin would smirk, and when they sat he would sit just to the right of Mizuki herself. When the older man entered the room Kenshin would smirk, and chuckle a little as the man gave him a small bow, one that he would return by inclining his head… he couldn’t exactly bow while he was seated.

Kenshin would read over the descriptions of each keg, and wouldn’t bat an eye as Mizuki took some of the ‘Screaming Monkey’, it was what he had been expecting… she loved to be the centre of attention and she was always going to be the more lively of the duo. The Kazekage himself though, his identity still unknown to the people in the party, would fill his own mug with some of the spiced tea labelled as ‘Sleeping Monkey’, as it fit him better than any of the other two.

Much like Mizuki herself he wouldn’t partake of the tea just yet, and would wait for the right time to do so.

Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

Fri Oct 02, 2020 12:55 am
Zaine noted each of the different reactions he had received from his distinguished guests beginning with Moosiah- the man seemed more focused on preparing his dish than anything else that night and while this brought the host some confusion, he would also admire the work ethic and serious nature that he brought to the culinary craft. Next up was Guren who had been just as respectful and kind as always, not to mention laid back- it seemed that he planned on enjoying a nice relaxed night with everyone and that maybe this was a break from the stress of developing new techniques in in spare time. Following the Chinoike were the pair that brought wonder, weariness and interest into the home of the young Uchiha, Mizuki and Kenshin- one of which did not give her name at all and the other who only gave his first name. While this introduction didnt anger Zaine, it did serve as fuel for his suspicion of the two- why were they choosing to exclude this information? More importantly, why was there combined presence giving off more pressure than the others in his home put together? These thoughts raced through his mind as he held eye contact briefly with Mizuki and even after she and Kenshin passed by him and into his home. He would keep his eye on them as the night continued and they interacted with the others to pick up any information he could. Intersting enough he would be approached before long by Mizuki who would properly introduce herself but would still omit her family name-she would follow by asking whether or not they could get a roll on dinner to which he would motion her as well as the other guests to begin dining at their leisure and not to wait a moment longer. Lastly came in none other than Raleth Sarutobi and he was exactly one minute late- Zaine would look up from his watch after speaking to the other guests as he entered and set the pace for the rest of the evening.

"Even if its just a minute you cant help but being late can you?" he would say to Raleth as he walked over to the barrels that he had lined up- assured that they were filled with some sort of alcohol and that their effects would differ based upon the expression of the monkey faces they bore. He was usually very well mannered and wanted his guests to feel welcome and comfortable in his home- that being said, he would enjoy a single moment of selfishness by being the first to drink from one of the barrels. Taking a glass from the table he would look over the monkeys closely before ultimately deciding that being "dizzy" or "sluggish" as the first two monkeys appeared wouldnt be right for a host and rather he should be as energetic as possible to be in the right mindset to entertain and react if an incident arose. He was joined by Mizuki who also poured tea from the third barrel but beat him to it just slightly- this coincidence made him the smallest bit more comfortable with their interactions thus far. Shortly after Kenshin would grab some spiced tea from another barrel which meant the guests might have the chance to see how all of the tea effected people, granted someone else chose the dizzy tea.

He would raise his glass and signal for all that had grabbed themselves some of the spiced tea that it was time to indulge and get the night moving in full pace. "Well now that were ALL here, I would just like to reiterate how much I appreciate you all coming to my home and I hope we can enjoy the night and many more to come." He would lower his glass and begin to drink the tea, only meaning to take a sip but being surprised by how great the taste was, he couldnt help but drink half of his glass. He would set it down on the table before walking back into the kitchen to check on the efforts of Moosiah who was still preparing his dish. "Take your time, but whenever you finish up in here you should really grab yourself some of this tea, its fantastic." He would pat the man on the shoulder and walk back into the main living area as his demeanor slowly but surely began to change.

Twenty minutes of conversing, eating and drinking would pass by and at this time Zaine had finished his tea completely- he had filled up another glass and managed to get down another quarter of a cup. Something..strange was occurring in the young Uchiha, he was much more awake and the pacing of his speech along with his heart had sped up. He found himself playfully throwing his arm around the neck  his old master who stood 4 inches above him as he chatted to Guren and Raleth, "Hey Raleth! You should tell everyone about the time you stuck two kunai into the side of a cliff and made me balance on them for "training"!" He would look at Guren as he continued "Something about being immovable and one with the cliffside, yada yada yada. I think he just thought it was funny to see me losing it trying not to fall, I mean I was like 12 at the time!" Zaine burst into laughter as he told the story- looking around the room to see of any of the other guests had begun to partake in the drinking of the tea. He was aware at this point that his heightened mood was related to it but also didnt care much because he was in such a buzzing state- his laughter however, would be short lived as his smile shifted to an overconfident smirk, his eyes focusing on the black haired woman that had bested his master in combat. "So from the sound of what Ral said, youre pretty strong? Coming from him thats impressive to say the least but that got me thinking. You dont look like you're boasting physical prowess like this big lug." He would point to his right where Raleth was standing. "So, maybe youre fast? Or maybe you have some power hidden away. Either way youve peaked my interest." Zaine would glance over at Moosiah, Guren and Kenshin to see their reactions as he spoke because he intended to involve them at some point in the "exercise" he would propose. Walking over to the counter he would grab a sturdy kitchen knife and make his way over to the coffee table that stood in the center of the room and without any words or warning he would slap his left hand on the table palm facing down and fingers spread as far apart as possible. Looking in the direction of Mizuki and Kenshin he would begin stabbing the spaces in between his fingers one after another until he had hit each space 4 times over the course of 10 seconds. He would smirk and toss the knife to Raleth signifying that he wanted him to go next and have another chance in some way to best Mizuki. Now looking at Moosiah and then Guren he would speak once more "A little competition should spice things up a bit. Ral, youre next and after that maybe our fiery headed friend can give it a shot. Ive already got a good idea how quick Guren can be but if he wants to hop in he can feel free. Looking back at Mizuki and Ken he would utter ,"You two have the privilege of scoping out all the competition first." Zaine would smirk, "Think of it as a friendly handicap".

Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

Sun Oct 04, 2020 12:19 am
"Even if its just a minute you cant help but being late can you?"
A deep laugh escapes Raleth at his friends comment, the Sarutobi taps the keg of the screaming monkey and gives Zaine a cup, unsurprised at his old student's choice of Monkey. The aged Sarutobi then pours cups for the other guests, his heart welling with joy at the interest his tea has garnered. He's surprised at the ash-haired Mizuki's choice of tea, he would've assumed she was a Dizzy Monkey shinobi. The tall and thin, smirking figure, a man whose presence is almost overwhelming, picks a curious choice: the sleeping monkey. Raleth hands Gurren and Musu their choice of tea and pours himself a cup of the Dizzy Monkey. He takes his seat at the table and raises his cup in time with Zaine. With the conclusion of the Uchiha's toast, Raleth takes his drink with the guests of the dinner party: the night can finally begin.

Liquid flows over the guest's tongue, citrus, berry, ginger and spice tickle the throats, heat pours into the stomachs: good vibes are spread throughout the party. Food is passed, plates are shared, lifelong friends are made. And soon, the Monkey's Tea takes affect.

Zaine feels the Screaming Monkey first, his thoughts and tongue are connect, his effervescent personality shines through: making him the social life of the party. Soon, Mizuki Ohta would feel this affect, and she would find it difficult to speak her mind.

The tall man unknown to Raleth, the kazekage, and whomever else chose to take this tea, would feel the influence of the Sleeping Monkey. Chairs and sofas would feel softer, relaxing and winding down could come easy; one could hear and be apart of all the festivities like this, but would find it difficult to speak clearly.

The white-ash-haired shinobi, Raleth, and whomever else chose to take this tea, would know why the name is Dizzy Monkey. The room would rise and fall, the walls would shift in place. Colors would blend together in the corners of vision, one would feel a pulling force on them, as if they were the tides to an unknown moon. And, like the waves, would have no choice but to sway back and forth, to a fro, in rhythm to the vibe of the party. The aged Sarutobi would lose himself in this feeling, enjoying the tingling numbness that it brought to the back of his mind. He closes his eyes for a moment, drifting away and hiding from something in his unconscious.

A sudden feeling snaps him back to the party, he feels the arm of his old student, Zaine Uchiha. He smiles, the screaming monkey having grabbed hold of his friend. As he recalls an old training story, the immense jounin bursts into laughter: remembering the night well. "He forgets that he had just turned 12, it was a sort of 'gift" for him. And it wasn't a cliff, it was like a mountain or plateau, and he had been training on it for weeks before the kunai training he mentions happened. I had...thrown him to the top of this mountain, and told him he had to find a way down himself. The only hint I gave him, was that the mountain would provide everything he needed. He was to learn from it and become 'as immovable as the stone that made up the mountain.' He had done rather well, though it did take him a long time to figure out how to climb down."

Raleth laughs, remembering the frustration on Zaine's face as he tried to ponder a way down the plateau.

"What surprised me most was the way he tackled the problem. He first had himself get strong, strong enough to make the climb down quick and easy. I was more than surprised, I was impressed. When he was half-way down, I threw the kunai under his feet and told him to stay where he stood. 'Balance is everything,' I said, 'you must center yourself, even in the worst situations.' I then caused the entire plateau to shake and quake for three hours, and Zaine did not budge one inch."

Raleth waited for the reaction his story would create, and laugh merrily with everyone.

"Gurren," Raleth would say after, "you must have stories wilder than mine! Don't be seflish, share with us all."

After some time and conversation, the social life of the party, Zaine, would come up with the most interesting idea, a simple game of coordination, speed, and skill. The aged Sarutobi would observe the Uchiha stabbing the knife between his fingers, and would be visibily confused. He knows his student well, and Zaine is much more dexterous than he lets on. As the Uchiha finishes, he tosses the knife to Raleth. The immense jounin shrugs, perhaps his friend is trying to play more than one game.

Raleth walks up to the table, glancing at the unknown Kazekage, Mizuki, Gurren, Musu, and Zaine, and begins stabbing at the spaces between his fingers. He would do this quick, quicker than his large size would convey. After 10 seconds pass, Raleth hits each space 6 times: leaving quarter inch marks on the table, a fault of the Dizzy Monkey loosening Raleth's grip on his strength. He chuckles and hands the red-haired jounin, Musu, the knife.

Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

The cooking of the larger than normal bird that Musu brought had gone along smoothly. For the duration of the bird cooking Musu would remain within the confines of the kitchen, looking inside the oven every so often to make sure that the bird was still being cooked to perfection, and exchanging pleasantries with Zaine when he would ever feel the need to enter into the area. For the most part the guests didn’t arrive at the venue until the prescribed time and Musu would observe from the kitchen as the guests began to pour in. Through the hallways and open space between the kitchen and the entry rooms Musu would hear the knocking on the door several times and Zaine’s footsteps would rush to the door to allow a new guest in. One by one the guests would enter into the house and in what felt like an instant, after being alone with Zaine in the room for hours, the house started to teem with life and new chakra signatures that Musu could sense.

Firstly, Musu would sense the presence of another shinobi entering the kitchen while Musu was putting the finishing touches on his bird. Guren, a shinobi a bit taller than Musu, would enter the room and put his hand onto the shoulder of the Uzumaki. While the ninja made enough sound coming through the room and setting down his offerings to the party Musu did not anticipate the potency of his chakra signature. Taking a step back from the oven and turning around to get a better look at Guren would reveal to the Uzumaki the unique nature of his appearance and the man who would boast such a chakra.

“Indeed, I have been to a potluck before, I thought I was supposed to prepare the food here, but it’s alright you live, you learn...”            Musu would say as he bowed deeply to the Chinoike.       “My name is Musu! It's a pleasure to meet you and I must say, it's rare to meet somebody with a chakra as palpable as yours. Extremely impressive.” Musu would continue.

Should the conversation conclude at this point Musu would return to his bird and finally prepare to take it out of the oven, satisfied that the bird actually cooked a little bit faster than he had expected. Indeed, Zaine and his kitchen had proved a useful place to prepare this dish. Pulling out a couple of mitts from the drawers in the kitchen Musu would put them on, pull the chicken out of the oven, and place the cooking bowl on the counter. While he was pulling out the bird and placing it onto a serving plate Musu would sense a familiar presence. The thick chakra that surrounded Mizuki would become abundantly clear as the two would lock eyes from opposite sides of the room. The last time that Mizuki and Musu met they ended their meeting in the most peculiar of terms and the resolution of what became of that meeting is still yet to be known. Musu would give her a deep bow as well as she confirmed that Musu would have the center spot on the table for his bird.

“Thank you, Mizuki, I hope you have been well!” He would exclaim to the Kounichi. As Musu would look at her Musu couldn’t help but sense that something was a bit different about the woman today than what was at that chance meeting as the grove. Musu wasn’t sure what exactly this change was and at this point figured it would be something to think about for another time. Musu would quickly put that thought to the back burner as he was greeted by Raleth, a man whom Musu had recently started to grow a connection with in the village. Knowing that the older Sarutobi was here began to relax the Uzumaki and made him feel a little bit more confident to be himself. So for now, It was time for him to present the bird, but very soon Musu would start to enjoy himself at this party....

As the party guests would start to fill in the seats that surrounded the table Musu would enter from the kitchen with the bird. To those that viewed the scene they would see a very serious Musu clearly strained by the weight of the bird struggling to carry the bird towards the center of the table. Drawing a bit of the sweat as he finally got to the table he would set the bird down and present it to the guests. The guests would gaze upon a large chicken that was golden brown throughout, glistening on the plate as it shined as though it was made of metal or some other shiny material, and smelling of fresh earthly herbs and spices that emanated from the cavity. Those a bit more olfactory sensitive may even smell the lighter tones of lavender and saffron being elevated as Raleth would enter in with his tea.

“Hello All!” Musu would exclaim giving the party guests a deep bow before continuing but actually using this time to catch his breath. “My name is Musu, forgive me for not mingling with you all earlier, I hope that you all will enjoy this fresh bird, and most importantly give a big thank you to Zaine for getting us all together like this!” Musu would say as he was handed his selected choice of spiked tea, the screaming monkey.

Musu would raise his cup to the air and wave the rest of the party to do the same…

“To Zaine!” Musu would say as he would attempt to clank his cup with anyone else that would be inclined to do the same.

Musu would feel the effects of the screaming monkey instantly as the spiced and spiked tea would begin to flow into his belly. Musu didn’t normally drink because he always put his work before his own personal needs but today was different and Musu was determined to show Raleth that he was taking his wisdom to heart.

“Whooooooo! Holy shit that drink is a killer Raleth. Dammmmmmn this is going to be a crazy night! Now who wants some of this chicken!” Musu would exclaim to the party as his mind to mouth filter began to disappear and his confidence began to rise artificially as the tea tightened its grip on his mind. Anyone who indeed asked for chicken would watch as Musu would begin to expertly carve out select pieces of the bird to guests, a skill that was taught to him by his father growing up, and one that Musu hasn’t yet forgotten. It had been a while since Musu has had the chance to carve up such a large bird so he wasn’t the fastest, but onlookers would observe that each cut would be as precise as possible, leaving no meat to be wasted.

After making sure that anyone who needed food was provided some Musu would then build a plate of delicious food for himself and pour himself another cup of the screaming monkey tea. He could be heard cheering and hollering in between mouthfuls of food as Zaine, then Raleth, would be challenged to the knife dexterity challenge being conducted at the table. Musu was indeed surprised by how fast Raleth was while completing. 6 rotations! Musu would down the rest of his cup of screaming monkey tea as the knife was handed to him.
“My word you are just the plethora of surprises Raleth, a Hunk of a man built like an ox, but with the speed of a tiger, the total package!” Musu would complement Raleth as he took to position.

The spirit of competition was heating up inside Musu as he was determined to beat Raleths tally of 6. Musu would stab the knife between his spread out fingers at blistering speeds while the Screaming monkey would give the Uzumaki a false sense of confidence in his coordination. At the end of the ten seconds Musu would indeed be able to pass Raleth’s tally with 9 rotations around his fingers. Musu would leave the knife upright on the table as he stepped back after his ten seconds and lift his hands into the air in celebration of beating the older Sarutobi.

Musu would only now feel the drops of blood that landed on his face as he hands were up in the air. The spiked tea not only gave him a confidence booth but it also dulled his sense of pain. Bringing his hands back down to him he could see that there were 3 distinct cuts on his fingers, knicks from the knife getting too close to them. Musu would chuckle a bit as even now he could not feel this pain.

“Welp! Does that mean I’m disqualified?” Musu would ask Zaine, clearly not concerned about cuts now on his fingers.

Desserts in the Desert - Page 2 Empty Re: Desserts in the Desert

Once everyone was seated she too would raise her glass, joining their gracious host in the toasting to the evening - she too would lower her glass to her lips, but kept a curious gaze on his expression as it turned from tentative to exuberant before draining the cup instantly. Raising an eyebrow she too would allow the drink to pass her lips - call it overcautious but she was wary of drinking something she was unsure about. The drink was indeed fantastic and it bubbled within her, causing her to be hyper aware of the proximity of everyone around her - their enticing smells and the lifting of an atmosphere to a level of giddiness she was unfamiliar with; while everyone loaded their plates up and the snippets of conversation passed Mizu would merely play the part of guest. Her plate had food on it, and she had indeed eaten some for show, but mostly her plate went uneaten - she was engrossed in their loudmouthed and enthusiastic host Zaine who seemed to be retelling stories from his childhood and life growing up with a muscle head like Raleth as his guardian. Along with his heightened speech pattern came a faster heartbeat - she would do her best to not make it so obvious she was staring though and as she went to refill her cup she would feel the golden eyes shift to her place at the table; looking up she met his gaze.

The small smile of a cat would play on her lips, her mannerisms more open to read, leaning back she would raise her glass once more in recognition of Zaine, “Prowess comes in all shapes and sizes - your masters’ is just the loudest form. And an interest huh? What a chaotic choice.” As he rose she too would come to her feet, the silken kimono shifting around her shoulders as she moved to follow him to the coffee table - crossing her arms across her chest she stood in front of him, as if acting sentinel over his actions. A wild smile would spread wide over her lips as she watched the blade drawn from the kitchen stab into each space between the fingers with precision - all in 10 seconds. “You’re the one who will need the handicap.” She watched with the same intensity as Raleth took his turn, chinking divots of wood out of the table with his heavy handed force - and while he was fast he was not as fast as the overzealous host. Next was - Musu - Mizuki would look down to hide her smirk, the man was taking to the drink in an expected manner, he was already quirky to begin with and this just seemed to loosen the threads on the jar that was his mind. The way he sees the world was interesting and his speech patterns unexpected to say the least so she would simply lean back against the closest wall and watch as the red haired man took the knife and began his stab at the task - and the stab that hit her throat was soon to follow.

It seemed he was unaware of the damage he had done to his hand, so much so that he continued well past the first cut and into the second and third hits - each new wound causing her to physically flinch as the air so close to her became thick with the sweet smell of blood. Slowly she would lift her hand to her mouth, which was clamped closed. If anyone was watching her they would have noticed she had stopped breathing the second the first cut had been opened. As Musu realized the state of his hand she used his loud observation to slip past everyone’s attention and push outside to the backyard. The glow of the lights from inside was the only thing illuminating the space and she walked to the very edge of it, facing away from the light and gasping in the clean air as if it were the only thing keeping her sane. Had she not been fighting to keep herself in control she may had heard the footsteps, may have even felt the chakra - like a sun beam - coming closer; but it wasn’t until his hand touched her shoulder and the heat seeped into her skin that she knew it was too late. The world sucked into a vacuum and all she heard was his heartbeat - faster than normal but smooth with confidence - he was saying something but... the fog was too heavy now to make it out. She turned to look at him now, had his hand pushed to face him or had she done it willingly? It was too hard to discern now, the world felt like she was underwater now, slow to perceive and understand though her body moved with grace and fluidity - why were her eyes welling up with tears? She watched as pale hands reached out, slowly at first as though to embrace him…

Run…Run…RUN-

The next second she knew was pulling her mouth away from his neck, she was on top of him as he was flat on the ground, just out of the range of light from the house - which was now at her back? How… with a slight tremble she raised her hand to her mouth and hurriedly wiped away his blood before the panic and realization set in fully. Zaine was breathing, he was was groggily moving, his heart beat was slower but not medically worrisome - pure violet eyes flit to his neck, where two puncture wounds would be had they not already been sealing and healing before her very eyes. “Zaine… Zaine you have to get up.. Please.”, the last word was spoken in a panicked whisper as she quickly got off of him and pulling him up to a standing position; surprisingly easier to do that she would expect for him being so large. “Come on we have to get you to Raleth, easy does it.” She would help him hobble back into the home where the festivities had continued without break - the whole event having taken less than 5 minutes it seemed. In a group setting now Mizu would revert to her years of training and wrangle in her emotions; coming off concerned but showing no guilt. “Raleth! I think your tea might have been a bit too strong for this one! He came out to see if I was alright and he collapsed, what's in those kegs anyway?” A classic bait and switch really, but with everyone under some sort of trance it wouldn’t be that outlandish to assume it didn’t bode well with everyone - and Zaine had drank the most the fastest - her story would check out. “In fact, I’m not feeling to great myself If I’m being honest..”, she would pull a convincing face of grave sickness - wasn’t hard when she was feeling rather sick about the whole ordeal anyways. She would set him down on the couch and rub her temple with her knuckle to continue to sell her story, “I’m sorry everyone, another time but I think I’ll take my leave.. I’ll check in with him tomorrow to see how he’s feeling. Sorry again for the abrupt leave, Guren, Musu it was so good to see you both again, Raleth please make sure he gets better-” she would give a long standing look to Kenshin, the changed eye color being all that was needed to convey the truth if he had not been watching. Pressing her lips firmly together she bow her thanks to the others and take her leave.

Once out of the door she would run to her home, the dark swallowing her form when it could until she threw herself in her home, shut the door behind her and slid down it to the floor - her head coming to rest on her knees…. She could feel his last moments of fear in her chest like a bonfire of accusation; waiting to burn her alive.
