Kita nodded at Gonk, dismissing his own transformation technique as well. There wasn't much of a use for it anymore, not that Kita actually knew how they could see through the technique. "There's a couple of things it could be... Maybe they have some technique or natural ability that lets them see through jutsu like the transformation technique? No, the R&D team would've told us about something like that. Maybe I'm just horrible at the transformation technique? No, that isn't it either. I'm not great, but I'm not awful at it either. They must be smarter than I thought..." Kita shook his head from side to side, trying to shake his mental ramblings aside. They weren't needed for the mission. "I don't know exactly how a hierarchy would work if they had one. There was only one monkey there at the time, so maybe he's the only one with that has this genjutsu? I also don't know where the owl came from either. It seemed to be a bit more intelligent than the average bird, and almost seemed like it was working WITH the monkey, and not FOR the monkey." Kita clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. Kita brought his hands together into the Ram hand sign and focused his chakra to find the mark seal that he placed on the owl earlier (Mark Tracking). "I think that you're right. Negotiation may be our best tactic at the moment. There's no telling what they could do to the kid if we go in with weapons drawn." Instantly the knowledge flooded his mind, pinpointing the location of the bird from earlier. "Got it."
Kita led Gonk through the trees into the approximate location of the bird, finding the other animals had been rounded up and kept under the sway of two monkeys that sat in the middle of the swarm, both of them holding the monkey seal in their hands. The kid that Kita saw earlier rested to the side of the two monkeys, bound and tied as he was earlier. The owl hung over the two shinobi's heads, and stared down at the field below, eyeing the child and ensuring that he didn't escape. Time to make a move. Gonk and Kita jumped down from a tree that they stood on, falling gently onto the ground below as the entire herd of animals whipped their heads around to stare at the two ninja. "Creepy..."
Kita walked with Gonk as they slowly approached the group of monkeys that held sway over the forest creatures. The brandished crude spears and clubs at the two, but Kita knew they weren't a true threat to shinobi like Kita and Gonk. The true wildcards were the two in the middle. Gonk initiated the peace talks, insisting they the two ninja were there to discuss the rights of the monkeys, and Kita nodded along. "He's right. We aren't here to harm you." The one with the burned eye spoke up first, proclaiming itself and his partner Bobo as the leaders of the group. Seems as though they would be the ones that they would have to make the appeals to. The other one, Bobo, stared at the two with multicolored eyes, the left being blue, and the right being brown. He spit on the ground between the two shinobi's feet, and began to speak. "They sent kids to speak with the two of us? Do they think that we're that much of a joke that they can't even be bothered to send adults to talk with us? I don't believe it. I swear Momo, we should just tie them up and take them back to base. Maybe then they'll start to take us seriously." Kita tried his best to keep calm, but his heart raced slightly. "Look, we know that you're upset. I know that we might seem on the younger side, but we're still shinobi. The fact that we're here means that the R&D team is taking you seriously, okay? Just put the spears away, and we can talk calmly." Bobo scoffed, and motioned to the group to back off. He turned back to Kita and Gonk, squinting at the two. "Alright, let's talk then. Are you ready to listen to our demands? Or are we gonna have a problem?" Kita nodded once, and Bobo continued. "Firstly, we want decent food and shelter. You packed us into what're practically cabinets last time when you didn't have us slaving away at the labs, so we aren't going to have any more of that. Not to mention the fact that the food you give us is usually rotten. Second, we want decent hours and time off. I can't tell you how many of our guys that you've worked practically to death, or you sent us to take care of something that you didn't want to risk a human researcher dying for. How long until you kill one of us? Third, we aren't going to be beaten anymore. We've had enough of that, and I've had to fix too many broken bones. You get the picture." Kita nodded, his jaw growing tighter. He wasn't equipped to deal with this. Anything he promised them wouldn't be something he could back up. Then, he had an idea. There might be a way to complete their mission parameter. "Okay, we can talk more about this, but we have a few demands of our own. One, we want you to free your hostage, and any others that you might have. Two, we want to discuss this in a better area. The R&D labs, your base, one of those two is fine by us, but we'd rather discuss these terms and conditions away from a place where the citizens of Kirigakure could potentially hear us. It would be bad for Kirigakure's public image if your old work conditions got out."

Gonk listened to Kita and Bobo’s words and occasionally nodded his head in agreement. After Bobo had finished his list of demands, Gonk glanced at Kita a bit nervously, but it seemed they had both come to the same conclusion. They weren’t qualified to do anything about these monkey problems. If they promised anything, it would be a lie, and if they didn’t promise anything, there was no telling what the monkeys could do. If it came down to it, Gonk was confident he could take the monkeys, but he would rather not. There was no telling what the repercussions of his actions would be. It seemed that Kita came up with a solution faster than Gonk, and Gonk thought it was a pretty good one.
“Kita’s right,” Gonk said calmly, not wanting to provoke the monkeys. “We were just the messengers to come get you, we’ll need some people from the Kiri R&D to help with negotiations."
“So,” Momo sneered, “first you’re fully qualified people who were going to negotiate with us, and now you’re just messengers. What a joke!”
“Shit,” Gonk thought, “I walked right into their trap.”
“No.” Momo continued. “Either you negotiate with us, or there’s no deal." Gonk was frantic, he was way out of his league here, but what could he do? He couldn’t just leave the kid with them, so he made up his mind. “Fine we’ll work something out with you, but let’s go somewhere else. I’m assuming you wouldn’t like it to be at the R&D, so your hideout would be fine.” Momo, hesitated for a moment, before speaking again. “The fact that you don’t want to hold it here just proves that you think our treatment is wrong, but it remains to be seen if you care about your actions. But very well, we will take this to our hideout, but this means that we have to make a deal. And we will keep the boy with us for now, but we will undo the bonds except for his hands.” Gonk glanced at Kita before nodding. “Alright, lead the way.” Momo clapped his hands, and one of the Monkeys stepped forward and untied the boy, then stood him up. His hands were still tied behind his back, but he looked unharmed, albeit a little dirty. The group of animals all started walking away, with Momo, Bobo, Gonk and Kita at the center surrounded by monkeys, who were surrounded by other animals. It would make an escape attempt quite difficult. The boy was being guarded by two monkeys ahead of them. It would be difficult to try to take him. After several minutes of walking through the forest, the procession arrived at a large cave, where all of the monkeys entered, while the other animals waited outside. Gonk noticed the owl fly in with the monkeys and set down a bit behind where Momo and Bobo now sat. The cave was lit with torches, illuminating the rocks and apes within. Gonk sat on the floor parallel to Momo.
“Now,” Gonk said, facing the two leaders, “I honestly find it hard to believe these stories you told me. I’ve met with the Kiri R&D before, and they don’t seem that cruel. However, I think giving you breaks and more reasonable hours is a fair request, and one that I would not be opposed to obliging. However, you complain about doing dangerous work, but we ninja face dangerous situations all the time. We are the ones protecting this village from harm. While you may face the slight danger of something going wrong and hurting or killing you, we put our lives just to give you that chance.” Gonk finished his short speech and gazed at the two, trying to gauge what their reaction was. Gonk glanced over to Kita to see if he wanted to add anything.

Kita clicked his tongue against the top of his mouth. "Shoot. Looks like they aren't letting us out of this easily." How were they going to handle this? To talk with the monkeys wouldn't be fruitful, they had to know that. Part of Kita suspected that the two shinobi would be walking into a trap of some kind or another, an attempt to take more high value targets, but another part of him was curious as to where this would go. It didn't seem like they had a choice but to go along with them. Besides, if they were bringing the two shinobi to their base, that would be exactly what Kita and Gonk were assigned to do. Kita almost wanted to ask them if they knew where to find Kato, but he wanted to keep his cards hidden, and alerting them to the fact that they had a third man on their squad could put them in a bad position.
Kita followed along with Gonk as they made their way towards the supposed hideout, making his way over overgrown flora and uneven surfaces, all the while trying to avoid stepping on one of the smaller animals underfoot. They had a few moments, and Kita leaned in to whisper with Gonk. "I didn't realize that they were THAT smart. Listen, when we get to the hideout, our goal is to leave as quickly as possible with the hostage. I can put a mark seal so that we can find it later. If they move locations, we also have one on the owl." They had the primary mission objective covered. All that was left was for the ninja to recover the captive, and get back to the R&D Team. Kita just hoped that they wouldn't be too mad that they were forced to engage the targets.
Before long, they were led into the cave which they had made their hideout so that they could discuss the terms and conditions for the monkeys to work in. Gonk, Kita, Bobo, and Momo all sat down on the floor together, Gonk parallel to Momo, Kita parallel to Bobo. It would be best to let Gonk speak first. After all, he needed their attention off of himself in order to place the seal. Kita was sitting cross legged when Gonk began speaking, his hands inside the gap between his legs, palms on the ground. Taking one hand ever so slightly off the ground, Kita form the Ram handsign with one hand, using the other to place his seal on the floor of the cave (Mark Seal). After that, Kita shifted his hands from being in the center of his lap to his knees. It was briefly visible on the floor for about a second before turning invisible. Didn't look like any of the monkeys saw him do it.
When Gonk glanced over to see if Kita had anything to add, he gave a thumbs up. To the monkeys it might simply look like Kita was agreeing with what Gonk said, or that he had explained their position well, but Kita hoped that Gonk understood what he meant. Kita turned to the monkeys, picking up an idea from his speech. "He's right you know. Being a shinobi is even more dangerous than your current jobs. Of course, I don't blame you for wanting safer working conditions." Kita sighed while grinning, trying his hardest to seem like there was something that he knew that they didn't. "You've been treated unfairly. From what you've told us, it sounds like you've been treated like slaves. You've worked your fingers to the bone, you were experimented on, you never asked for any of this." The monkeys around them started nodding in agreement, and Bobo raised an eyebrow, curious as to where this was going. "Of course, you're just as much a part of the village as anyone else. However, I believe that what you don't understand is that the research that you're doing is for the good of the village. Your village. You want the same rights as a normal village worker, and that's fine, but you need to accept the responsibilities of a proper Kirigakure worker. Each man works according to their abilities for the good of the village, and you've all received abilities that most people will never receive in their lives!" Bobo held up a hand, brow furrowed in thought and slight frustration. "We never signed up to be citizens of Kirigakure, and it's unfair to impose rules on us like that. Thinking that we'll just go back and work ourselves to death because it's for 'the good of the village' is a laughable fantasy land that only a kid could come up with. Most of the monkeys seemed unphased by Kita's words, and their resolve reaffirmed itself after Bobo spoke. One of them however, did seem uncertain. "What do you mean by abilities that most people won't get?" Kita grinned, trying to seem more confident than he felt.
"Isn't it obvious? Why do you think that you were working in a Kirigakure R&D facility, something that deals with ninja research development? In order to protect this village, ninja have to be strong! We have to have top equipment and skills in order to compete with dozens of other ninja villages, or we risk destruction. It requires YEARS of training, just to reach even the lowest rank of ninja. To entrust someone with the task of creating weapons for these elite warriors implies the highest degree of trust. Think about it! You have remarkable intelligence that's fit for a ninja, and your natural chakra proficiency is absolutely astounding! Your strength has been enhanced to a degree that you're strong enough to compete with fully fledged ninja, both are things hardly anyone ever achieves!" Bobo shakes his head. "Kid, you're severely delusional. That hostage over there was hardly any trouble at all, and he's supposed to be an 'elite warrior?' That's just laughable. I'm starting to think you're just a village of weaklings." Kita shook his head. "You don't get it, do you? It's not that the kid was weak, it's that you're unnaturally strong! Think about it, you were smart enough, and strong enough, to track down and manipulate three shinobi into cooperating with you! You don't think that's impressive in the slightest?" Kita leaned back, sighing. "I can only imagine just how impressive you would be if you became shinobi. Your natural talents and abilities for being a ninja are staggering. You could probably level mountains with a single jutsu if you trained hard enough! Our village would probably be unstoppable. You'd get all the top missions too, which pay massive salaries. Not to mention the respect that comes with it." The monkeys begin to murmur among themselves, and even Bobo seems interested. "Alright kid, I love flattery as much as the next guy, but quit brown nosing. Sucking up to us won't score you any points negotiating. That stuff doesn't even have anything to do with us." Kita shook his head once again. "You don't get what I'm saying, do you? You've been working in a military R&D facility, you've been given incredible abilities, you work yourselves to the bone, you're insanely powerful, and you work with our top ninja tools. Being a shinobi comes naturally to you guys. Why do you think the Kirigakure R&D teams did all this for you? They're working you hard so that one day if you prove yourselves, you can become shinobi. It's delayed payment, get it? Let me put it simply. If you continue your work, your training, the life of a shinobi is one that you could live. It'll satisfy every single one of your demands and more. If you're willing to come back to the R&D team with us, we'll get you your benefits. We shouldn't have pushed you as hard as we did, and for that, I apologize." It was a complete bluff, but some of the monkeys seemed convinced. Bobo seemed an inch away from giving in himself. Kita turned to Gonk and nodded. The rest would be up to him. After all, if they could convince the monkeys that a life of luxury awaited them at the end of their employment, they would work twice as hard under the same conditions.

Gonk listened to Kita’s speech with fascination. He seemed to be able to tell the monkeys exactly what they needed to hear. It seemed like he had almost reeled them in, when he handed the conversation over to Gonk. Panicked, Gonk quickly racked his brain for a way to get the monkeys to want to do their jobs.
“Kita is right,” Gonk started, “think of your job as training for being a shinobi. By learning the inside of the trade, you will be more experienced when it comes to actual combat. Skills don’t come overnight, so you need some time to develop your abilities before you can go out.” Gonk studied the monkeys to see what their reactions were, he saw that most of the lackys were excited by this idea, but the leadership was yet to be convinced.
“How do we know you’re telling the truth,” Momo questioned Gonk, “chances are you’re just tricking us into coming back into servitude for the rest of our lives.”
“Damn, he caught on,” Gonk thought, frustrated. “These two aren’t going to give in without actual proof of what we say, but what about the others?”
Gonk turned around to the group of monkeys and asked them, “How many of you guys actually hated your job? Really think about it, was it worse than having to fend for yourselves out here? At least with the kiri R&D you got food, and somewhere to stay. Was it bad enough to warrant this? I bet most of you haven’t even eaten today!” Gonk then turned back to Momo and Bobo, “If you want to become a ninja, this is no way to do it. If you refuse to listen to reason, kiri will just send a force to wipe you all out. Is that really what you want?” At this the monkeys started to grow concerned, nervously whispering to each other. Momo glanced around the room, starting to panic not because of Gonk’s words, but because he was starting to lose control of his followers.
“Enough!" He yelled at the monkeys. “Are we really going to let this ninja deceive us? He’s clearly trying to trick us with his clever words!”
“Everything I told you is true. If we don’t make it back, or we aren’t able to get the boy, I can guarantee you won't live much longer. You aren’t that important you know. Now, if you want to live, walk out of this cave right now, and go back to the kiri R&D, or else, I will have to take extreme measures.” Gonk gave the monkeys a sinister grin, which was enough to push them over the edge. Every last one of them bolted out of the door, and Gonk could only assume that they would listen and head back to the kiri R&D. Now the only people still in the room were Gonk, Kita, Momo, Bobo, the Owl, and the animals under genjutsu.
“Now,” Gonk said to the three leaders, “I would suggest giving up. We’re not afraid to take you out,”

Gonk handled the situation beautifully, sealing the deal with the other monkeys. The rest of them scrambled out of the room, leaving only the five of them in the room. Kita and Gonk stared down at the last three leaders of the group, still surrounded by the Genjutsu controlled animals. Normally, Kita would be content to leave it here, but they still had a hostage. The one called Bobo gritted his teeth tightly, and Kita could see him practically shaking from... anger? Fear? Kita really couldn't tell. Just a moment ago he seemed willing to give up, but now he was ready to murder the two. "Damn it.. SCREW YOU KID, YOU LITTLE SNOT!" He was losing it.
Bobo clasped his hands together, and the animals at the base of the cave began to advance. Clamoring over himself, he quickly snatched an abandoned spear off of the ground left behind by a fleeing comrade and pointed it at the hostage, breathing heavily as he did. "You're done for now kid! If you move so much as an inch, I'll kill your little friend here. Now listen here and listen well, we're not going back! Now, you're going to give us our demands, or I'll kill you! And if you won't listen to us, your corpse and this hostage should convince your little R&D Team that we're serious!"
Kita held his hands up, not wanting to make any sudden moves to set them off. He was doing his best to stay calm, but a bead of sweat trickled down the back of his neck. "Okay, lets just calm do- Bobo interrupted at that moment, lightly bringing the tip of the spear to the hostages neck as a threat. Any closer and it would pierce skin. "I am calm!" Kita gritted his teeth. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry! Look, you don't want to go back, I get that! What would you prefer, huh?!" Bobo gave an angry grin, and pointed to Kita's headband secured around his waist. "You two talked a big game earlier about the life of a shinobi, and about how it's so much better than working at that R&D facility, so lets make it happen. I think us three are more than ready for life as a shinobi. Make that happen, and I might just let you leave alive!"

Gonk grew more and more confident in his plan as he watched the monkeys crawl over themselves to get away from the cave. But his confidence was shattered when Bobo grabbed a spear and held it to the hostages neck. Kita’s attempts to calm Bobo down only made the matter worse. Gonk didn’t blame him though as he was about to try the same thing. Bobo’s request caught Gonk off guard, so it was a moment before he responded.
“Wow you’re really serious about this ninja thing,” Gonk said, as he eyed the hostage and the animals. “You know, this really isn’t the best way to go about this.”
“Oh yes it is!” Momo cried out furiously. “You have to say yes, or else you and this boy will die!” Gonk racked his brain, trying to figure out the best solution. He had to hand it to the little guys, it was a tough situation to get out of.
“Wait, but what’s to stop us from turning them in after we agree,” Gonk pondered this idea for a second. “That might work, or it might end up causing more problems.” An idea suddenly popped into his mind. Gonk wouldn’t mind having a companion. It could get lonely being alone, but Gonk needed to know the monkeys were trustworthy.
“Fine we’ll think about it but first we need you to release the animals and give us the prisoner. You ask a lot from us to trust you enough to let us into our homes. We need to see that you are trustworthy,” Gonk told them calmly. Momo yelled at him “how do we know you won’t kill us the second we listen to you!”
“How do we know you won’t kill us the second we let you into our homes? It calls for trust on both sides,” Gonk tried to keep calm while saying this, but some anger slipped into his voice. Momo considered this for a few seconds then appeared to go into a state of deep concentration. A bear broke from the crowd and picked up the boy by the shirt with its mouth. The pear padded over to Gonk and Kita, then gently placed the hostage at their feet. The boy seemed to be relatively unharmed, but he would need to be checked out all the same. Momo then opened his eyes and relaxed. The animals suddenly shuddered and looked around, confused. They all then bolted out of the cave, apparently free from the genjutsu. Gonk smiled at them and said “thank you for humoring my requests. You have provided your end of the bargain and now we will hold up ours. Come on, we should get going.” Gonk then picked up the boy, turned around and walked out of the cave. Gonk heard scampering noises behind him, and turned around to see Momo running towards him to catch up. They were now in the forest, so Momo started swinging through the trees to keep up with Gonk.
“So you really mean it?” Momo asked. “We now get to be ninja with you?”
“Yep, if you want, you can accompany me on all of my missions. Unless of course, I have a good reason not to.” Momo looked like he was about to get angry, but then conceded to the point.
“Fair enough,” he said before hopping onto Gonk’s back. Gonk was a bit surprised at first, but kept going, the weight being almost nothing to him. When they arrived in the village, Gonk got some strange looks, but was not inquired about why he was carrying an unconscious boy and had a monkey on his shoulder. Gonk dropped the boy off at the hospital, then wrote up his report so the R&D wouldn’t be too confused about why all of the monkeys suddenly reappeared. Gonk and Momo then dropped the report off, and walked back home to figure out Momo’s living arrangements.

Kita sighed with relief. It was all finally over, and the hostage was safe. Now all that was left would be to return back to the village and fill out a report detailing what had happened on the mission. The two shinobi agreed to train the monkeys in the ninja arts, but Kita was a bit unsure of it. It made sense to remove them nonviolently from the R&D company. If they did it violently, it might result in them becoming martyrs, which could lead to further complications later on. Keeping them pacified with another occupation would be the logical decision. However, Kita couldn't help but feel that they had overstepped their authority. The two shinobi weren't even supposed to engage, much less deal with these creatures. Regardless, a promise is a promise, and Kita was still intent on keeping it. Regardless of whether or not it was easy for him. Still, one last thought crossed through Kita's mind that he needed answers to. "One last question for you. Did you guys happen to see anyone around here with some weird eyes and red hair?" Bobo blinked once, and shook his head. "Never heard of him."
