Instead of stopping, the boy in blue continued forward from the five-meter mark with all the headstrong folly of youth causing the samurai to set his jaw in determination. The boy's shift back into a boxing stance with his left-hand leading and his hidden right-hand trailing would be a fatal mistake, for it would leave an opening to exploit. Unbeknownst to the samurai, who was reacting to the change in his assailant's stance and equally rapid approach, the single-handed seals in his left hand began just as the boy in blue gripped his Fuma shuriken and would likely be completed before either of the boy's hands could move another foot.

Tiger-Rat

If all went to plan, the boy in blue, now roughly 2.5 meters away from Yasahiro, would find his body lock up midstride as the samurai's jutsu came to dominate his body and prevent him from moving anywhere, let alone throwing anything. A heartbeat after the paralysis jutsu took effect, a brilliant white light would then lance out from the kunai in the exile's right hand which, if not stopped, would greedily rip through the bandit's body until it aerated his heart and sent the boy to the afterworld he so clearly wished to visit. Deadly force had to be met with deadly force and the boy in blue had pushed his luck just a bit too far for the last time—he had the chance to leave, why hadn't he taken it?

Boring Numbers:

In that single instance, the Hyuugas life flashed before his eyes and as his body and mind prepared for the inevitable death that was to follow the trade mark seal of the branch family illuminated his forehead indefinitely sealing the Byakugan. Suddenly he froze, blood gushing from his mouth as his body began to register the impact on a phycological level. His heart attempted to beat once more, his right atrium completely decimated by the impact. As he looked up for one last time there was only one thought that traversed his mind… “Sorry… mom.”

In that moment despite the bodily paralysis he fell to the ground like a rag doll, the light from his eyes quickly fading as he hit the ground with a thud. His general movement with the blade embedded in his chest forcing his body to fall back against the solid ground, the Fuma Shuriken clanging against the floor upon impact with the Hyuugas white attire slowly turning red.

Yasahiro's blade withdrew from the boy with a sickening sucking noise as if the body was loath to relinquish the object that killed it. In a matter of moments, the kunai had returned to its normal dimensions and the look of determination had died from the samurai's eyes only to be replaced with a deadpan look of despair. He had done it again; he had killed someone, a kid it that—it wasn't right, what was wrong with him?

A single tear slipped down the man's face before getting lost in his beard.

Over the next hour, the exile gathered rocks and built up a small cairn around the body of his fallen opponent. It was, in his mind, the least he could do for the misguided youth. Perhaps next time he would be able to do better, but today had been an utter failure. Something had to change in the Land of Rice if it forced people to such extremes. Yes, next time would be different; next time he would be able to make a difference and not default to the violence that had come to define his life up to this point.

"See ya, kid."

Silhouetted against the setting sun, the samurai began the long walk back to the inn. He could conquer the mountains at a later date; right now there was work to be done.
