Page and Sheffield would listen intently to the genin go off on the intricacies of their life in the Haven and how the state of affairs was in the village, allowing him to indulge in his obvious lust for verbosity, before answering his long winded question by replying simple, "Although I have visited the places you mention, this was a quick stop and shop, nothing too serious," before he would notice a peculiar smell in the air and turn to reveal the incoming entrance of Fu, only slightly before everyone else would, but noticeably so, he would quit his talking allowing them to introduce themselves.

Yuuma had found himself waiting expectantly for more answers to come to the rather mounting pile of questions when he heard a call from above. A predesignated signal that he would let out when he spotted a new arrival to the gate. His call carried with it a sense of urgency, though it wasn’t exactly a panicked or fearful cry. Turning his head out to the plains, Yuuma would soon discover why; approaching them was the most massive beast he had ever seen. A bear, to be more exact. Having come from what some might call a remote location, he was quite familiar with the more formidable of creatures. This one, however, was a category all in itself. Despite the rather monstrous nature of the creature, Yuuma found himself more awed than he was scared. “Wow, look at the size of that thing. It could end a small settlement if it was determined,” thought the boy who would turn to his conversation partner and offer an apologetic bow of the head. In a moment’s time, he’d be turning his attention to the approaching shinobi riding atop the beast and moving to meet them once they were within a closer distance.
Left behind was Seto, who would nod to Page should their eyes have made contact. “Sup’.” The taller man said rather informally compared to the shorter companion. “My hair is soft as anything. Wanna feel?”
On his approach, Yuuma was not shy in sharing his observation of the bear and a rather plain look of wonder and curiosity written over his features. His approach offered a respectable distance to the sword-wielding woman and her absolute unit of a companion. Despite the nerves of nearing such a beast, Yuuma did his best to wear that same friendly smile he had with the others who had approached the gate thus far. “Good evening.” Yuuma would begin, offering a slight bow of the head before he would withdraw a piece of parchment from beneath his arm. “Here for the exams, I assume?” Although he would wait for an answer, his own would come shortly after. “Names and village, please.” He asked politely, taking his pencil and jotting down the names gives to him, as well as making note of the village she would mention. Even if her headband was plain to see, his question would not have changed. Once the information was logged, he would withdraw a slip from the inside of his robe and copy down a few bits of information.
“Welcome to the village hidden in the stars, Hoshigakure,” the smile would lift to greet them once his jotting was done, and Yuuma would half the distance between them and extend a hand to offer the slip. At this range, he was well within a quick swipes distance, though even when his eyes flicked to the creature and back, the nerves that had been there having only diminished somewhat. “This will be your visitor’s pass, please keep it on your person. If this is your first time here, I would recommend you visit an information center so you might familiarize yourself with the village. Best of luck to you in the exams!” Competition though this woman might be, she was also a guest of the village, and Yuuma was sure to greet her as such.

The carriage had left them a ways away from the village itself, as with everything, they had to organize themselves in order to pass inspection at the gates; Kaito expected nothing more. Having already paid the fee beforehand, Kaito gave their transport and travelling companions a curt bow with a hand to his solar plexus, and motioned to his genin to follow him. “Have your IDs at hand when we get to the gates. I don’t want to see any fumbling and awkwardness.” This comment was more directed at Gin, but he passed it off as a standard precaution. “Your headbands should also be visible. You are ninjas of the Kumogakure, soldiers of the Lightning Country. The world should know you bear those titles with pride.” The last Kumogakure ninja that Kaito interacted who had failed to showcase their own headband did not have a merry long life. The only part of him that did live on now rested within Kaito’s eye socket.
The Raikage was clad in his usual garments. His Darkened Skies armor, the second mark of its kind, held the redhead dearly, a protective layer of fabric and metal that fit quite well to the weather of the Kumogakure, yet here, in the rocky wastes, left him somewhat uncomfortable. “Still better than the Wind Country”, he supposed. Weapon pouches on his thighs and belt held on to the ninja tools that identified the ninja -- though anyone could have one, it would take years of practice to use them effectively, and Kaito had more years of practice than many had years of life. On his belt, the faithful yet cruel Jagged Claw held on securely, albeit it was protected by the mid-thigh white robes of the Raikage, which he wore over the black armor, and he made sure to tuck it more vertically so it wouldn’t jut out threateningly, though one would be able to see the scabbard going down to his knee. The white robes offered solace from the harsh sun’s heat, a small reprieve that came with the position, he supposed. His head and characteristic red hair was covered by the flat pyramidic Raikage hat, golden with the symbol of the Hidden Cloud in white at the front, with a short cloth that went around his head and further shielded him from the world. His headband was stashed away in one of the pouches, as he needed little else to be identifiable. Covering the right cheek all the way to the forehead, along the jaw and around the ear, was the eyepatch which he chose to wear in order to keep his Byakugan a secret from those who could use it to his advantage.
“While we are in Hoshigakure, you represent the Kumogakure. Make sure to not shame me, our village, and your ancestors.”
They made their way towards the gate, where a great sitting bear could be seen. Atop the gates themselves, a solitary owl judged Kaito. There was a decent amount of guards standing around, their shiny armors almost hurting the singular black eye of the redhead. Looking over the bear, he saw a young girl waiting to be handled by the gate guard. He would wait, and speak to his genin in a low tone. “You guys good?”

Ryu stepped out of the carriage into the blaring sun, a temperate and humidity similar to that of his home country. Ryu nodded towards his leader as he noted that he wanted the interactions here to be professional. Ryu had not changed his attire for this trip but had decided on the smarter of his options. Ryu wore a pair of long black jeans and a dark blue and green checkered shirt, buttoned all the way to the top and with the collar folded down neatly. His weapon was in their usual places, katana hanging from his belt of the right side, a leather x shaped pair of holsters on his back each holding a tanto. A weapon holster was strapped around his left thigh and his weapon pouch sat on his right hip, slightly adjusted to the backside. Ryu had his hands, arm, feet, and legs wrapped in their usual compression bandages but only the hands were visible. Ryu's headband was proudly sat around his forehead.
The gates to the new village sat in front of the Kumo group, a few individuals standing in place between them. Ryu reached into his weapon pouch and produced his ID. "Ready," Ryu said in response to his Kage. He was excited about exploring a new village, but also there was a tinge of nervousness, he had got used to socially interacting with the villagers of Kumo. However, the social etiquette he had learned might not apply here, and also there was the issue of this being a village of competitors, whether they were allies or not, they still were the opposition in the long run. Ryu closed his eyes and took a few conscious, steady breathes as he prepared for the coming situations.

It's two days' travel from the coast to Hoshigakure. Snow Squall docks in a breezy coastal town nestled along a cliffside, pale Cycladic architecture a treat for the eyes. It reminds Murata of the oldest districts in Kirigakure purely from its obvious enduring nature. Such places in her own home were a rare treat, and she was around to see many of them destroyed. She lit some of the fires. If the way people discuss Hoshigakure is in any way accurate, it will have the poise of this tiny village times thousands.
Murata steps from the ship behind their small entourage, the overcoat of her armor and her other belongings collected in a heavy pack. The black base layer of her armor coats her body underneath a loose navy top - she has her flak jacket packed away as well, of course, but she's already began to sweat before stepping off the boat, and layering up any further sounds... unpleasant. Her armour does a wonderful job of rebuffing heat, but it is just as effective as keeping it inside...
The further south they travel, the deeper they delve into desert. Even this captures Murata's heart - she had pictured flat expanses of sands, but instead this place treats her to vistas of red sandstone, blushes of flowers clinging to life and frighteningly tall cacti dotting the hills. The caravan travels through the dusk to make good use of the cool night, and the Kirigakure delegation may find itself returning to its warmer wear from back home for the moment.
"What is Hoshigakure like?" Murata asks their driver.
"Loud," he huffs. "It's a city that's been around long enough to turn into a tourist trap. You know the type."
Murata doesn't know the type, but she is keen to find out.
The team stops at a small town along the road, a tiny constellation in the dusk-blue countryside. Bells ring in the distance before their arrival, and by the time they enter town what must have been evening prayers have concluded, people returning home through the quiet streets. They are spared little attention besides that of a small child exclaiming in excitement at the sight of the monkeys.
The team arranges lodging easily enough - there is a hint of unease in the air as they deal with the married couple managing the town's inn, but they have been assured that this is a common stopover town for travelling shinobi.
Supper is pleasant. Afterwards, Murata plays a few rounds of shogi with Ban before retreating to allow the rest of the team a few matches against one another. The tension from the previous days has for the most part left her - Samehada is out of sight, and out of mind. Her attention instead lies with her friends and the novelty of Haven, and it's obvious to everyone how excited Murata is to simply be somewhere new, though she does her best to keep her mind on their goals here. Compete, give everybody a good showing, don't stir the pot. She speaks of the possibilities of interacting with the other villages with a tempered glee, always having to remind herself that few of them will be happy to see Kirigakure there.
After everybody has settled in for bed, the entire team, with the sharp ears and light sleeping habits of shinobi, will likely hear fragments of the conversation occurring downstairs between the innkeepers.
"...you alright?"
"I just don't know about this. We're supposed to get used to them taking the city - and now they're bringing in more, from all over? With the royals gone, too."
"Now, you know it's not fair to say that they took anything, come now... would you rather more of those bandits?"
"Well..."
"They're here to protect us, right?"
"I just don't like the choice we were given, Tobias. That's all."
"I know, I know."
Hoshigakure's gates loom in the distance, the city beyond it gleaming in the day's light. It is a short trek through the countryside from their final stop to the village proper, during which the team has had time to make some final conversation before they arrive at their destination. Murata reiterates her expectations that everybody behave with the dignity their village demands, and to remember they are emissaries of a place loathed by much of the world.
"Do your best not to let anybody get under your skin," she says. It might be good for them for somebody to get under their skin, just a little bit... but she doesn't need more responsibility on her plate if they get into a fight. Perhaps it is best that she be the one to lead this group, with a minimal personal stake in the simmering conflicts her village has largely instigated. It's unlikely she has the personal ability (let alone the authority) to try and make things better, but at the very least she can do her best not to make things worse. "There will be plenty of opportunities to fight - oh!" Murata beams at the sight of the well-kept gates as they near. "They've gotten the cacti to grow so tidily! I'd always assumed they'd be so much more difficult."
They near the village, where a fair group has gathered as the gatekeepers check everybody's papers. Murata has her own in hand and ready, and forehead protector gleaming upon her brow, in turn expecting her team to do the same.
The white cloak ahead of her is surprising to see - especially waiting in line, personally accompanying what must be the Kumogakure team. If any of the Kumogakure delegation spare Murata or her team any attention, she will regard them in turn with a polite, friendly nod. Despite her own opinions on the legitimacy of ninja's leadership systems, it is best to be respectful and courteous, the same as she would be at home.
The Kumogakure delegation will need to be processed ahead of them, so for now she must simply wait. Staying alert, she allows the back of her mind to dwell on the interesting harmony of the unique chakra signatures all gathered here.

Re: Throw Wide the Gates[Open]

Most of Gonk’s ill feelings had slowly dispersed during the boat ride, and he was feeling mostly back to normal. Though he did vow to find out if they were really hiding what he thought they were. The first thing Gonk experienced in haven country was the heat. It was so dry and hot, Gonk immediately hated it. He definitely preferred cold weather, or at the very least, least tropical heat with a nice sea breeze.
As the group traveled through the desert Gonk found another thing to hate.
“Stupid sand,” Gonk thought as a gust of wind sent sand flying at him. “It’s so itchy and it gets under my scales.”
Momo watched Gonk as he started trying to get the scales out from under his scales. “What’s the problem?” He asked, clearly knowing what the problem was.
“It’s this stupid sand! I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.” Gonk said annoyed as he continued to scowl at the sand under his scales.
“What do you mean you hate sand?” Momo asked, amused. “You never have any problems with it at the beach back in kirigakure.”
“Well… this sand is different. It’s more dry and rough,” Gonk replied, annoyed at Momo’s good point.
“Yeah sure,” Momo said back, rolling his eyes.
“Just shut up,” Gonk replied, slumping down in his seat.
Gonk was glad to get out of the heat and into the inn. After they pay for their rooms, the group all sit down for a nice supper and afterwards, play some shogi, a game that Gonk is not particularly skilled in. Gonk noticed that Murata seemed less on edge, and decided not to ruin her mood by pestering her about what she found. There would be time for that later, so Gonk decided to just enjoy his evening. After he retired for bed, Gonk could hear the owners of the inn voicing their misgivings about shinobi, however Gonk paid little attention to it as he understood many people didn’t like ninja. Whether they like it or not, they were being hospitable to Gonk and his companions, and that was good enough for him.
At long last the Gonk can see the village in the distance. WIth the reason for all this travel in sight, Gonk starts to get more excited.
“Do you think other people have arrived for the chunin exams yet?” Gonk asks no one in particular.
“Probably,” Momo replied absentmindedly. “We didn’t leave particularly early.” This was one of the rare occasions Momo said anything without an insult behind it, showing he was truly excited. Gonk grunted in agreement, before listening to Murata’s words. As soon as Gonk could see the outlines of people in the distance, he realized he needed to show off a bit. Gonk quickly put his fist into his hand, causing a purple aura to form around him and his eyes to glow purple as well. HIs hair didn’t change color, but started glowing the shade of purple it already was. Once he performed that jutsu, he made two more hand seals and called Kiribachi from storage displacement, leaning the three meter long sword on his shoulder. Satisfied he was as cool as he could look, Gonk continued to walk to the gates with the group, his kirigakure headband worn with pride and his identification papers in his unoccupied hand.

For some reason he found himself getting lost from His original path of Suna. It wasn’t like him to at least ere from the path he had set for himself, but... he wasn’t in any rush to get to his destination. The heat of the outside didn’t bother him as he merely pulled the black hood of his jacket over his jade and black hair, his amber eyes being the singular object one could see from its blackness. His right arm had been bandaged yet only the hand could be seen with a few free fingers showing. His index, ring and pinky finger were the only fingers shown on his right side but the feeling of something synthetic was unnatural to him, but it felt real enough to him at least to not care.
The voice of his “partner” whispered within the confines of his... no their mind now and Ishimaru simply waved the backsides comment away mentally. This change was something that he was still not used to but he gave into it. He asked for it after all. Looking up he could see the visage of the gates of Hoshi and honestly he was unimpressed after seeing the large gates of Suna. It would have also seemed as if other people were trying to enter as well. He merely assumed they were here for the Chuunin Exam, but he had still been wondering if he should even bother with it. Heaving a small sigh he would walk over to the gate, pushing his sword off of his back to reach for his identification papers before putting it back where the sword had sat. His headband of course had been resting in his hoodie pocket, the Konoha symbol being out in the open yet he didn’t care if people knew where he was from.
When asked he would show his identification papers and if needed he would explain why he was here,” Ishimaru. I’m here for the Exams.”
The voice of his “partner” whispered within the confines of his... no their mind now and Ishimaru simply waved the backsides comment away mentally. Ban sat along the ledge of the deck, staring down the side of the wide boat side. It was a habit of hers when nothing was needing to be attended to on deck, she would stare at the waves hitting the side of the boat. The flowing movement of the waters mixed with the unmoving wooden frame of the boat was mesmerizing.
The boat trip lasted two days. Those two days became extremely long as time on deck was spent either interacting with crewmates or doing some work on deck. However, the Kiri crew - Murata, Ban, Gonk, and Kita - all seemed distant from each other since they had gotten on the boat. Ban was still upset about the sour interaction on the docks but she had two whole days of the tranquil sea to be able to reflect on the interaction. Ban still wasn't sure why Murata felt so distant from her. Months before, they were gifting each other stuff and enjoying each other's presence. Then she left on the trip to uncover the former Mizukage's secrets and now she was even more distant, choosing not to interact -if only for a moment- with Ban when she came back for the brief moment.
Ban's insecurities told her that it was because she wasn't chunin yet. Murata had reached chunin before Ban did, leaving her behind. Murata had more power than Ban, so why'd she bother with a simple genin like Ban. Whether this was true or not, Ban seemed to trust this. So the only way she would be able to get the attention of Murata.
The group docked themselves along the northern shore of Heaven and traveled by foot to Hoshigakure. They traveled tirelessly. Some of the crew complained of sand and the village’s popularity in recent years. Ban just kept to herself. She was mostly just dehydrated- getting a headache and dry mouth - but refrained from sharing this with the crew.
After passing through many scenic areas, they finally reached a small town with a locally owned inn, which the crew spent the night at. They ate supper and drank their fill. Ban’s headache was relieved, so she was less likely to become irritable. After dinner, Murata invited Ban to play some shoji with her. Ban accepted and the two-faced in a shoji game. It was the most time the two spent time with each other in a while, just the two of them. It was a close game but Murata ended up the victor. Leaving more clauses in her insecurity. She needed to win this chunin exam. She was restless that night.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, the day had come when the team arrived at the gates of Hoshigakure-the host of the exams. There were a lot of participants from the 4 other great nations at the gate. They were all waiting to get let into the village. Murata seemed excited to finally be in the village. She gave a cheery pep talk to the group before getting distracted by the amazing ecological art at the gate. Ban was more relieved to see Murata in a better mood.
The group would end up behind some Kumogakure shinobi. Ban pulled at her identification for Kiri to show to the two Hoshi shinobi at the gate.

Having completed the process of assisting the shinobi with the rather massive bear companion, the woman had been handed a pair of slips that signified their checked entry into the village of Hoshi. Another call from atop the gates would tug Yuuma’s attention back out towards the plains to spot the arrival of a new group. With a bow of his head, Yuuma would excuse himself from the Konoha shinobi and begin his approach then to the group that contained the man in the white cowl of the Kage. The symbol on his hat was one the young Genin could easily recognize- the symbol of Kumogakure. Yuuma had only ever met one person from Kumo before; a blonde boy by the name of Max who had come to the village when Valen was still in charge. Yuuma had been the one to escort Max about, chatting with the sullen lad about this and that. It would be ignorant to believe that all shinobi of a village would follow the example of the one he had met, but that would stop Yuuma from thus far having a positive impression of the Kumogakure shinobi. Despite their somewhat dour expressions, it was just as easy to chalk it up to the warm weather. Particularly when they were clad in the sorts of armor they were.
Armed to the teeth was putting it mildly, but he expected little else. Approaching with a pleasant smile, Yuuma would pause at a comfortable distance and offer his attention to the Raikage. “Welcome to the country of Haven, shinobi of Kumogakure.” His greeting was punctuated by a deeper bow at the waist to the authoritative figure of another village. In truth, Yuuma had no idea of the current relations between Kumo and Hoshi, but he had little reason to believe they were on any sort of unpleasant terms. Even had they been, it would ill be an excuse to allow his manners to slip when he was the first face this group had seen of the village hidden among the stars. Correcting his stance, Yuuma would allow his gaze to flick to each of them in turn in order to acknowledge them though his gaze would ultimately rest on the Raikage. “Names, please?” He would ask, bringing his parchment from beneath his arm once more to begin writing down information as it was offered. Normally, he might ask them to confirm their village, but in the presence of the leader of said village, the extra measure did not seem necessary.
Although Yuuma had left a comfortable amount of space between them, he would readily step forward to accept any manner of identification offered to him. “I trust you did not find the journey trying.” He would offer in a short conversation, maintaining a pleasant but professional air about him as he went about jotting down the names and village of the three present. It wasn’t until he got to writing down the information of Ryuuzaki that he would show visible pause, his gaze flicking up to the man in a sustained observation that held marks of curiosity. “A Nara..” he thought to himself. The day continued to present him with more exciting opportunities one after another. However, as much as he’d love to take the time to create some small talk on the man’s position within the hidden clan, Yuuma would shake his focus back into the front of his attention and withdraw a trio of slips from the inside of his robe. “These are visitors passes which will identify you as guests in our village. Please do your best to keep them with you.” He would say, handing the three slips to the man identified as Noboru Kaito- Raikage of Kumogakure. “I bid you welcome to Hoshigakure and wish you the best of luck in the...exams..” Words trailed from Yuuma as he would spot another set of travelers approaching, as well keeping their distance from the gate and regarding the safe distance between the shinobi of opposing villages. What drew Yuuma’s gaze, however, was the absolute massive sword being drawn by a blue-skinned fellow who proceeded to start glowing.
The look of a furrowed brow was quite easy to spot, the Genin doing little to hide his confusion of the actions taking place some distance behind the group of Kumo ninja. Turning in place, Yuuma would look back to his companion at the gates only to find that Sato had already begun to work his way forward at an easy pace to meet the new arrivals who had seen fit to pull the attention of everyone else with the display of weaponry and jutsu. A twinge of fear speckled in Yuuma’s core as he wasn’t exactly sure what the Shinkou had in mind but knew that Sato wasn’t exactly the most social of people. Quickly turning his attention back to the gathering of Kumogakure shinobi, Yuuma would offer another deepened bow to the Raikage as well as an apologetic expression. “I beg your pardon, it seems some of our other guests are quite eager to be seen to. Please, feel free to make your way inside at your leisure. And once more, welcome to Hoshigakure.” A clap in front of his face offered a gesture of unspoken apology at the medical very quickly took his leave of the group in order to catch up with Sato, falling into stride beside him as they made their way to the group of ninja they would discover to be Kirigakure shinobi.
“Let us maintain our patience- perhaps they are simply feeling a bit exhilarated after such a long travel.” Yuuma would speak up to Sato as they traveled only to receive a grunt of a reply in return.
