This is where its story began. This is where it all started. For the second time. It only took one year before Madara was promoted to Genin with honorable mention from her teacher. Madara had left the academy with her Genin diploma in her pocket with her head held high. Seen as the best of her generation, she was very proud of it; she had worked a lot for. However, everything she had done before was no longer important since the important thing started today. Today, she entered the world of men. In the real world. She had been called to the mission’s office to beg for a mission. One was to have some academy students shadow her. Although this mission was intended for a older genin, it was offered to Genin Madara who had been deemed worthy of filling it. To be certain and beyond doubt that this mission would go well, the mission office gave this mission also to another genin, an aspiring teacher in his own right. With him, the shadowing day would not be lost and would be especially bizzare and full of twists: Today, rather than having their usual teacher, they had a genin fresh out of the academy, and a man named Kyuji.
Madara crossed the door of the ninja academy for the first time in a few months and found herself there very quickly. You don't lose your bearings in such a short time! She quickly crosses the corridor, greeted by her former teacher. Kyuji was surprised that Madara had received this mission but did not overdo it: he trusted her former student. Madara then entered the door of her classroom and stopped at the doorstep. The class was mostly empty but there were three students there some of whom were already laughing.
“Look at the genin who wants to come and teach us. Who does she think she is?” Madara then returned looking one after the other in the class. She sighed heavily.
“Well, what do we have here. Three students. Why are you here, is it to learn? Is it to move forward? Is it because your parents ask? Do you want to become the strongest? Do you want to become a hokage? Do you consider yourself the strongest?” Kyuji pointed to the young man who had made the remark a few seconds earlier.
“You, come here ahead. Since you say you are the strongest, since you seem so proud. Attack me, show me what you can do.”
The young man was not told twice. He took momentum, jumped from his desk and landed directly on Madara instead of Kyuji who was hit hard. The radiance of near enjoyment in the student's eye was greater than ever. He was so proud of him. In front of the whole class, he had succeeded in hitting her "teacher" with full force. She hadn't had a chance. As he turned back to the classroom to raise his thumb in victory, he heard murmurs and turned back to her teacher. It was slowly falling back. What was it? Was it possible? How could it be? It is as if she had not touched it, it is as if she was not really there. Who was this genin who came to teach them? Madara’s body eventually falls, then completely disappears. There was then a great silence in the class. Was it a clone? Where the professor's body had gone.
It was Madara’s turn to speak up. “You see, dear students, it is not only physical strength and willpower in life to face your enemies and try to win a fight. Cunning is the key to any victory and without it you can never even imagine being a real ninja.” The whole class turned around. Professor Madara was behind the class. How did she get there without anyone noticing? Madara slowly returned to her desk, motioning for the rowdy student to return to sit.
“Today, I'm going to do what any teacher should show you before combat techniques, before weapons techniques. I'm going to show you how important the mind and martial creativity is. You can use it in all spheres of combat to make them believe what you want, to make them think what you want. Without real efforts, you can make them your puppets and use them as you wish. Today, dear students, I'm going to show you a ninja facet that you wouldn't even have known existed.” Madara turned back to the big blackboard in the classroom. This painting reminded her of memories of her year spent at the academy. She remembers the first technique she learned. She remembers having learned substitution. She remembers having learned to handle weapons and to aim correctly.
“Without my family having taught me certain techniques and made me understand some elementary bases, I could never be before you today to explain these bases to you. You can be the greatest master of ninjutsu and taijutsu, but what can you do when faced with a man who controls your mind. What can you do with a man who controls your reality and therefore your intentions and your movements? These techniques my dear students can make you change sides without you even realizing it. It's very simple, it's not complicated; I would even go so far as to say that it is the basis.
As you have already learned, you can control your chakra for many things. Although you haven't learned it yet today, most of you will be able to control something. Some of you will even manage to control more than one. Some rare ninjas in our world manage to handle more than two. By controlling your chakra and these elements, you will succeed in controlling fire, water, earth, air. These elements are only the base, they can be modified, they can be mixed to control for example lava, ice or even wood. These techniques are very useful in combat because they are an asset for your taijutsu. You use the elements and your chakra to perfect your physical attacks. However, to use these elements, to use your techniques, you have to think about it. You have to think at least detail. Who are you targeting? Why are you targeting it? What are you trying to do by targeting it? What is the purpose of all this?
Besides these more or less existential questions, you must be careful not to attack your friends, your allies. You have to think sometimes not to kill him. All of these are extremely complex calculations that you will have to learn to do in less than a second in a fight because that little second can mean the difference between the life and death of you and your companions on a battlefield. It is the basis for a successful mission and a successful life as a ninja, as a shinobi. But now imagine that your mind is blocked. Imagine that a ninja can enter your head when you are not even aware of it. Imagine that a gifted ninja succeeds in hurting you. To make you change sides. Imagine that it takes your ideas from your head, which will allow the enemy to shoot you. All over life, without even realizing it, you may be living in an illusion. This may not be real every day. Perhaps you are in fact a prisoner of another village which keeps you in an illusion so that you remain calm. I am not saying it is, but it is a possibility.
Illusions can be at the very foundation of your life; they can change the smallest detail of the smallest facet of your existence. without even realizing it, you may be living in an illusion. This may not be real every day. Perhaps you are in fact a prisoner of another village which keeps you in an illusion so that you remain calm. I am not saying it is, but it is a possibility. The other teacher, Kyuji’s body instantly vanished into complete silence. “For example, that during all this time, you believed Kyuji was here while he was always behind you. You were all easy targets.
Today your teacher Kyuji is going to teach you the basics for learning genjutsu. Now that you know how important it is, you know how much weight it can have in the smallest facet of your everyday life. If you see something abnormal, do you have any idea how to react? Do you know what to do? If you see houses in front of you disappear and the statues of hokage suddenly change into a monster attacking you. Is it unreal, do we agree? You understand today that even in your safety you live in an extremely dangerous world. A world in which reality can be fiction and fiction can be reality.”
The course continued like this. As the sun was slowly falling and the songs of the birds became more and more rare, the students had all learned how to make a kai properly and how to get out of trouble when they were under the influence of an illusion. They had all learned the basics of recognizing a false reality and today, more than any other class, they felt like they had really learned something important. All the students continued to practice kai while Madara gave them little benign illusions to train them. The day was falling more and more in dark and darkness as the youngest children began to return.
The final bell was about to ring. Even the students who were less concerned at the start now had a perfect kai. Although it was a basic defensive weapon against basic genjutsu, this defensive weapon could one day save their lives. There were about 20 minutes left in class when heavy steps were heard outside the classroom. There was silence. Everyone, including Madara, knew that Kyuji was going to do something impressive before the end of the day. He’d taken off in the middle of the day to prepare something spectacular and left Madara on her own.
As the day progressed more and more, there was no longer any doubt, it was him. Madara ordered the students to shut up and return to sit down to welcome their late teacher, Kyuji. He entered the class. Madara turned to this almost late genin whom she saw today with a sigh of relief. She looked at him with her serious look, astonishing for a young man of his age, and did not say a word. She motioned for him to come back. She gestured him her that the class was now his.
When Kyuji entered the classroom, there was no surprise cry, incessant hubbub, sarcastic or scornful laughter. An unexpected calm reigned in the room, as if the promising Uchiha, with an unusual charisma certainly, had imposed his authority without the slightest difficulty. The words that came to him mind were "discipline" and "meditation" when he crossed the threshold. Without saying a word, he walked over to Madara, glancing at her as he got closer to her, and only then deigned to take a discreet look at the students. Everyone seemed to be waiting for the man to open his mouth. Kyuji responded to the young professor's words of welcome with a slight nod, and spoke in a soft, but firm voice:
“Hello.” He gave the class a sincere smile, instantly erasing the austere side that had impressed them. “Know that I am very happy to have the privilege of teaching you some of my knowledge. Like you, I set foot on this class. Like you, I was seated on the same benches. And just like you, famous ninjas came to teach me what I know today. I don't consider myself one of those shinobi. Nevertheless, I was chosen to support Madara-kun in her task, which was to make you progress in the ninja arts. Looking forward to your looks, I suspect that this experience was profitable for you. Am I wrong?”
The students confirmed the words of the man by laughing, nodding,
"Well, it went even better than I imagined. This kid will go far, I wonder what kind of ninja she will become." Kyuji returned his attention to the group, and continued her speech. “You must be aware of one thing: a shinobi only lives for one purpose, to protect his family and friends. And Hoshigakure is a big family. Everyone here must take the oath to protect one another with all your will and energy. Even if you were to die there, know that your name will never be forgotten. His words left a chill, as if talking to children about death couldn't reach them, which was more or less the case. So he quickly changed the subject “However, the real question is not whether you will protect your friends and family, because I know you will. Rather, the question is "how" will you protect them. And that is why you are here, on the benches of the academy, learning by heart techniques like cloning or kai. Day after day, you shape your personality and your skills, to the point of becoming a weapon, or rather a shield. A shield that can deliver the blows it receives. Like this.”
With a gesture of the chin, he invited Madara to attack him, which the small girl did by showing her absolute confidence. She rushed to Kyuji, kunai in hand, determined to skewer him! The man flexed his legs, swiveled quickly to initiate a movement of rotation and repelled its adversary in a spray of bluish chakra. It was Kaiten, the same technique that Madara wished she could learn as a fellow uchiha. The genin rose, surprised but unharmed. Kyuu had deflected her attack well. Some applause. Lots of "Oh" and "Ah". Excited whispers. He caught the students' attention by clapping his hands twice in an audible manner. Silence returned. He said…
“Each of you fights in his own way, with his techniques, or rather will fight in her own way. For the vast majority of you, your clan has its own skills that your parents will teach you in due course. Until then, your goal is to improve yourself. And it starts with mental work, as Madara-kun taught you today.” The boy gave her a grateful smile, to which she replied with a polite bow. “This day is coming to an end, but it is not the time for you to rest. You must be tired of having experienced strong psychological pressure during the afternoon, and having fought it. This is why the work which I am going to ask you, even if it is neither relaxing nor resting, will not be an intellectual exercise but instinctive. You all know what the chakra is, don't you?” Unanimous nod. “Perfect. You also know that to use your vital energy and use your chakra, you have to "knead" it. This is what I am going to emphasize this evening: With the concentration that you have left, you will try to feel all your vital energy, and to knead your chakra while being aware of the flow which traverses your body. Feel every bit of your body responding to this energy. Then, when you are ready, I will teach you a technique. Maybe your first real fighting technique. Go for it.”
While the students were agitated in all directions to settle down "comfortably", Kyuji took the opportunity to turn to Madara, the teacher for a day. Then, point blank, he asked her a question:
“Madara, you can be very proud of what you have achieved today. My eyes read in theirs only admiration and respect for you, never before have I known genin with such a pronounced charisma. Tell me a bit about yourself. I would like to know you more. Who knows, maybe someday I will have the opportunity to train with you. I hear you are a member of the same clan as me.”
“My only pride is that one day what I taught them today saves their lives. In this case I will be the most proud young woman in the world because I will have helped Hoshigakure by saving one of her children.
Otherwise, my name is Madara uchiha. I am a member of the uchiha clan as you know. I was trained in ninja arts in the past couple of years or so and I learned the mental capacity sufficient to carry out missions. This is what my father told me anyway. I went to the academy when I was a tennager and came out with a diploma just a few months ago or something something. Like most genin, I have only very low priority and important missions, or even useful for our village and I hope to rise in rank very quickly in order to be able to save lives and protect our village as much as possible. I want to make my family proud and give my clan all the splendor that is due to it.”
Kyuji nodded, smiling. Even though this kid was very young, she had a noble heart and the flame of Hoshigakure burned in her soul. She had a definite talent for the ninja arts, especially for genjutsu, but what impressed him most was the maturity she displayed. The uchiha was silent for a moment, pensive, then rose. The students seemed to have finished. He walked over to them without looking at Madara, and started to teach them the basics of the technique. An impulse of chakra from the palm of the hand, nothing too rocket science. The course lasted a while, there were failures, but the whole thing went in a good mood. Kyuji was starting to feel the tiredness accumulated during the day, and he hastened to finish it. When he declared the end of the lessons, everyone got up screaming and left the classroom in a howl of joy and excitement. He had an amused sigh. They were only children, after all.
He then turned around, ready to leave the room in turn, when he saw Madara and stopped dead. The girl was patiently waiting for him, sitting in a chair next to the desk. Kyuji did not expect to see her, to tell the truth he almost forgot her. The Uchiha gave him a small smile, which he returned. What innocence and what purity of mind. She reminded him of a lot of people actually. A funny little girl, no doubt. Kyuu walked over to the desk, checked that he had all of his stuff, then headed for the door. He could clearly see Madara staring at her behind her back, thanks to his help. He slowed down, stopped. He sent her a last message without looking back.
“If one day you need a mentor… You know where to find me.”
