A Chili A Day Keeps The Bank Away

To say it was hot in Haven Country would be an understatement. The heat rolled over the land like a wave and according to some people that wave was even visible. The heat to those that aren’t accustomed to it would be considered unbearable but for a small Senju family on the outskirts of Hoshigakure the heat was a blessing for them. 


“You see these seeds here boy?” The voice of a gruff and grizzled man spoke out. The voice sounded aged, as if the man had seen hardships of all different kinds. The type of voice that carried weight of pain, loss, but also one of wisdom and knowledge.“You want to make sure the soil is wet enough, it gets real hot outside so it’ll dry quickly.”


Yaijōrama was only so big compared to his father. The large man shielded the small boy from the direct rays of heat. He was finally being allowed out in the fields to help and because of that, he absorbed every word that was said to him. Yaijōrama grabbed the watering can with two hands, his arms were already shaking while he tried to lift it but he slowly poured. Allowing the water from the can to sprinkle over the harsh soil.“Why do we grow chilies, Dad?” Yaijōrama went to place down the watering can after pouring, allowing his eyes to move up towards his father. 

“Because Yaijōrama, they are one of the few crops that will grow in such a cruel environment.” Yaijōrama’s father went to dig a small hole in the ground before spreading the seeds. They would take some time to grow but they would eventually sprout, producing the livelihood of this Senju household.
