Re: A Meeting With The Kazekage!? [Private]
Mon Feb 21, 2022 3:30 pm
Since the events that led to a triumvirate of power disappearing from Sunagakure, the village had been relatively calm. Guren had been settling into the role of Kazekage, but oddly enough he was the leader of few. With so many having left from the village, he could truly only depend on himself and a handful of others. None the matter, the village was still strong. And Guren had been learning plenty. Still though, he knew that the time of reaction was over. It was now time to be proactive. Starting with the first thing that he had wished to foresee: the development of the younger shinobi force. With an abundance of positions now opened, it would be opportunistic for shinobi to seek to fill those roles and prove themselves. He could already think of a few shinobi with notable backgrounds that may be no brainers for the job; however, he wanted to give opportunities to the younger force as well to step in.
Leaning back in his chair, he positioned his dominant arm's elbow upon the arm rest to his right. He then propped his head up with his hand, and folded his left arm across his midsection. Slouching, he thought through the list of genin that Sunagakure had in its arsenal. Some of which he had met, sparred, and trained with. Others...completely unfamiliar to him. The name Kaito was a name he knew nothing of. Yet recently he had been receiving reports of the boy's activities within the village. It was only a matter of time for Guren to request his presence. Drafting a letter at his desk, he'd call for a messenger shinobi, and then issue it out. Snickering to himself, he realized the wording of his letter may have been more ominous than intended. But as Kazekage, he needed to take the job and his tone seriously. In the meanwhile, Guren would open the windows to his office and allow the cool breeze of the weather controlled atmosphere to swoop in. It would wisp past the papers upon his desk, but not strongly enough to blow by. And its softness almost carried with it the faint tone of his former friends that had left from the village. A momentary period of sadness would fill his heart. He'd shudder...allow himself to feel this pain, as it would be his fuel. Then he would harden and shake it off.
He'd walk over to the tea kettle in the corner of his office, then begin brewing a pot of peach oolong tea. It was a blend he had precured from Raleth's shop, and one of the finest he had found in recent times. Still though, this memory made him reflect on the friendship he upheld with Raleth and Zaine. Too many faces had come and gone from Sunagakure. It was a shame. He'd pour then sip the warm tea in his cup, and lean his back against the nearby wall. With his eyes closed, he'd focus his senses on the taste of the tea; which seemingly provided a warm moment of comfort, paired with a subtle fruity yet smooth essence. Just what he needed. And right as his mind began to wander, he would hear the knock upon the doors of his room.
His eyes flickered open, and without thinking Guren would heartily exclaim "Enter!". Right when he did, he could almost hear the resounding and distinct echoes of Kenshin and Mizuki repeating after him simultaneously. What a predicament he had been in. Shrugging it off, he stretched his chakra sensory to the exterior of the room. It was one unrecognizable to him. It must have been Kaito.

The doors would swing open and the identity of the boy was confirmed immediately. Although Guren had reviewed his file, he was still impressed by Kaito's stature. For a 13 year old he was tall, and the physique he maintained was muscular. Something expected of a taijutsu disciple, but still nevertheless quite reputable. Raising an eyebrow, he'd lift himself from being planted against the wall and fold his arms. In response to Kaito's question, Guren would remain silent for a moment. He would quickly study the boy's demeanor. Guren's first impression was that Kaito was punctual and proper. He knew how to speak to authority and his presence carried respect with it. Guren would smile softly and lighten the expression on his face.
"Do you care for a cup of tea?"
It mattered not if Kaito accepted or refused the cup. Should he take the offer, Guren would turn around to face the tea kettle, pour him a half full cup of the same peach oolong blend he had been sipping from, then wave Kaito over to come get it. And if he refused, then Guren would sigh subtly to himself. Not enough people in this world appreciated the simplicities that life had to offer it. Following this interaction, Guren would walk over to his desk and sit in his leather executive chair. He'd motion his hand forward and towards a velvet arm chair which sat on the opposite side of the desk.
"Please take a seat. And first thing's first: formalities. Tell me about you, Kaito. Who are you, what are your ambitious?"
Guren would wear a calm smile upon his face as he'd sip the warm, rich tea from his cup. His posture was relaxed, yet his gaze was focused. Though he appeared to have a non-intense personality, his mind had already been playing out how he inferred this conversation would flow. Always thinking a step ahead.

Guren was pleased to see Kaito's acceptance of the tea. To him, it was a sign of embracing the simple things in life and being willing to bond over such a thing. As the two sipped tea, they minds and bodies would be calmed by its alluring warmth. And Kaito's affirmation of his healthy diet was a testament to his devotion as a shinobi. It was reassuring, for all too often shinobi nowadays would indulge in the vices of their choice. And in a village like Sunagakure which essentially praised dark arts, deception, and temptation, access to these vices were especially prevalent. Still though it was important for a shinobi to preserve their resolve. And hearing that Kaito was doing just that brought a smile to Guren's face.
He'd nod and sip his tea as Kaito spoke. Raising an eyebrow once Kaito would admit his ambition to become Kazekage one day. It was an admirable dream, and one that would require paving a meticulous and strenuous path. Based on this interaction so far, Kaito seemed ready to talk the talk. But could he walk the walk? Guren refrained from responding just yet and instead set his tea upon the coaster on his desk, and leaned back in his chair. With his arms crossed, he'd raise his right hand up to his chin and lightly stroke the fibers of his beard. He reflected to himself on the potential that this boy had.
"I see. Well from what I've gathered, you've been particularly loyal to the shinobi lifestlye. Your record is clean for a Sunagakure shinobi, containing everything that I would expect to see. And from talking to you, I can tell you have the mental fortitude of taking the next step. Personally, I would think that you're deserving of a promotion to chuunin. And maybe more. But before we discuss that, I'd like to hear your opinion on it. What do you think your next steps are? What do you think you need to refine?"
As Guren cast his next series of questions, he'd pay close attention to the tonality and demeanor which Kaito would respond with. Truthfully, Guren wanted to see the young lad in action. Perhaps in a training session, a mission, or even a spar. But he would keep this thought reserved in the back of his mind for now. No sense in riling someone up too early.

Thinking to himself on the request to travel, Guren slouched in his seat. He intertwined his fingers and thought to himself in reflect. With the dwindling numbers in Sunagakure personnel, he knew that it would be quite a stretch to allow yet another person to leave. But he could understand a shinobi's resolve; the desire to want to venture out from the village in order to fulfill the familial destiny that everyone was uniquely born with. What an ask. He teetered on his decision as Kaito continued to speak. He sought to expand his capabilities and breach into the realm of suiton, something that Guren himself was especially proficient in. Perhaps this could be an opportunity to invest in the genin and see his abilities himself.
He'd raise his cup to his lips, and take the final sip of tea from his cup. Placing it back on the coaster on his desk, he'd raise his gaze back up to Kaito's ambitious eyes. With a light smile, Guren would sigh.
"Kaito, I respect your destiny. And I will grant your request to travel to Hoshigakure. However, this is not something I want you to pursue alone. With the recent...loss to the ranks in Sunagakure, I cannnot afford anymore. And a genin traveling by his lonesome just spells disaster to me. We will need to find a suitable accomplice for you, of at least Chuunin rank. Preferably Jounin. But before we proceed with that, I need to see your capabilities for myself. You say you wish to become a disciple of Suiton and Sensory. Very well then, I can teach you the former. The latter will have to be something either self-taught, or learned by one of the experts in our village. And so I will make you a deal. If you learn both Suiton and Sensory, then I will find someone to travel with you to Hoshigakure. But the trip must be a brief one..."
As he concluded his proposition, he'd stand from his chair and walk towards the windows behind his desk. Turning his back to Kaito, he'd stare out and marvel at the overlooking view of his beautiful village. "Understand that I trust you, Kaito. But I don't trust the world. And protecting our shinobi is my top priority."

Guren would refrain from driving home the point any further, as his terms were already clearly defined. And it seemed as if Kaito was in agreement.
"Training can begin at the end of this week. I'll have some things to attend to throughout, but by Friday morning my schedule and workload should be complete. Check in with me then Kaito...I am excited to see your development. And with that, you are dismissed. Thank you for your time today."
The Kazekage exchanged a brief smile with Kaito, leaned forward in his chair, then narrowed his eyes on the paper presented before him. If uninterrupted, he would return to his paperwork and continue to outline his plans. It was time to get back to work.
