Sliding the door to her fancy hotel room open, Madara began to undress quickly as she made her way through the house, stripping off her casual clothes off and tossing it aside before tearing off her undergarments as well. Reaching the bedroom, Madara slid her closet open, pulling out the pieces of her packed attire, laying them out across the bed. Sliding the drawers in the corner open, she pulled out a singlet, a pair of dark woolen socks and a set of black shorts. Slapping the entire assemble together with haste, Madara took a moment to dash into the bathroom. A thick knot of hair had tangled itself. Rubbing the palms of her hands together, Madara placed the index fingers from both hands at either side of her hair and pulled at it until the hair came loose. Madara's shabby appearance returned to her normal clean appearance within moments. Beautiful. Splashing a quick dash of spray into her hair. Time to go see what her ‘that’ person wanted.
Slowly Sliding the door to the main hall open, the sight Madara walked into was nothing like what she expected. One of her senseis sat in ceremonial garb, resting with his knees crossed on a silk pillow. Several meters across from Madara's sensei was an empty pillow, with the whole array surrounded by a circle of candles on tall black candle poles. "You're late. I said five minutes, not five minutes twenty seven seconds." Madara bit her lip, resisting the urge to make a snide remark as she approached. "Sorry sensei." Madara said with a polite tone of voice, pausing at the seat for a moment before slowly replicating her sensei's position on the free pillow. "So, what's with the overly dramatic setup?" Madara said with a smile, staring at her sensei. his eyes were shut, and she remained perfectly silent for a few painfully long moments. When he finally began to speak, his words carved through Madara's ears like gravel. The tone was not as it normally was, harsh but emotionless, this sounded more like the snarls of a beast. "You are an amateur at best. Your genjutsu is solid, but your taijutsu is mediocre, and every single attempt you have ever made at performing space/time has been pathetic. You are an Uchiha. You must be better than you currently are. Every syllable he spoke, while calm and silent, had a strange property to them, as though the words he spoke were coming not from a man, but from a demon that was about to unleash it's fury upon someone. "Today, we will fix that." Although his words were spoken with the same soulless venom, there was something... terrifying in her last few syllables. For the first time in her life, Madara was actually afraid of this sensei. Still, she kept her gaze locked on her sensei's eyelids, which, after a few long moments of silence began to slide open...
“If you weren’t aware, while you relaxed these past couple days, Mikadzuki Beach was overrun by a band of twenty or so pirates. They have captured a massive group of high-profile tourists and plan on keeping them hostage until a ransom of 1,000,000 Ryō is paid by the end of the day. Should the ransom not be paid, all captives will be killed on the spot. Your mission is to free the captives and ensure that the pirates never return to Mikadzuki Beach by any means necessary.”
The sensei had pulled out a scroll and started reading it almost verbatim. “Go do this mission and then maybe we can put some hair on your chest. Not that you need it, being a woman and all, but you know what I mean.”
Madara found herself staring straight into the eyes of her sensei. This was a sight she had never seen before, and it chilled her to her core. Three thick lines of black came from the border to the center of the strange eyes, twisting counter clockwise as they approached. The dark array spun slowly counter clockwise in their sockets, the pupils locked squarely on Madara's eyes. Out of pure fear, Madara's sharingan activated on its own, her meak three tomoes trying to must as much of a defense against the sight she saw as physically possible.
Not wanting to spend more time here than necessary Madara nodded and ran off. “Damn, twenty pirates? You’d think that news would spread quickly but I had no frikkin idea that this had happened. And one million ryo? Fuck man, I will probably never earn that much throughout my entire short life as a shinobi!” She couldn’t fathom demanding that much cash. She knew that there was a lot of rich people out there but god damn if you were worth that much you should at least hire some personal security. Victim blaming aside Madara couldn’t help but wonder what she was supposed to do on this mission. She thought about the mission requirements and guessed that the only way around this was going to be to kill all the pirates since clearly they wouldn’t need a shinobi if the authorities had a million ryo lying around to hand out to criminals.
Madara quickly ran to the beach and asked around until she found out where the money was supposed to be delivered. Supposedly there was a pirate ship docked not too far away. There was going to be a lot of security though, so that was going to be an issue if Madara wanted to eliminate everyone. Twenty pirates was a lot of people after all. She decided to run over there in order to scope out the scene. She made sure to activate Minds eye of the Kagura in order to sense everyone around her so that she could detect any hidden pirates. She also activated her sharingan in case there were any hidden chakra based traps along the way.
It was lucky that she prepared because only a half hour into her journey she ran into someone suspicious. He wasn’t exactly hiding, he was just sitting on a chair over by some rocks on the beach. He waved Madara to slow down as she approached.
“Hey what’s up?” he asked, “you here about the mission?”
Madara nodded.
The sitting man smirked and flashed his own Sharingan. "I am going to teach you a lesson today." Madara felt some measure of relief once she realized what was going on. Still, she had no idea why she was staring into the guy’s Sharingan. Madara opened her mouth briefly, trying with great difficulty to form a coherent sentence, but before she could her foe cut her off, speaking one word with guttural fury, her eyes flaring as she did so. "Taste my illusion!!" As soon as her foe said the words, Madara's world went black, and all her sensation bled into nothingness. her mind was flooded was a powerful sensation of falling, like she had fallen through the fabric of reality itself...
Eventually, the darkness gave way to an increasing amount of light, and Madara eventually found herself falling towards the surface of an endless ocean that surrounded her on all sides. She hit the surface of the water with a thunderous crack, yet she felt no pain. Although Madara expected herself to sink into the sea, it instead dipped down and then rose, as though it was made of rubber. It still felt wet, yet it was as solid as stone. Although Madara expected to feel her bones shattered and her muscles flayed from the harsh impact, she found herself able to reach her feet without any form of pain whatsoever. As she stood up, she found her foe was standing in-front of her. "This is an illusion, isn't it?" Madara said as she looked around at the endless ocean that surrounded her and her foe. "You have to ask? Madara's foe asked with no small amount of condescension in her tone. "So, why put me in this illusion?" Madara's foe sighed at her line of questioning, clearly frustrated with the kunoichi’s lack of understanding. "Are you dumb? You came here on a mission to defeat the pirates. I’m one of them ya idiot. And now you’re going to sit here until backup comes to finish you off."
As she opened her mouth to inquire further, to ask how the hell she could escape by being hit by a technique, only to find the world dissolving around herself. Once again, the world turned completely black, however this time Madara didn't fall. She could see nothing but herself, which she could see in perfect clarity. As she stared at her hands, however, Madara found herself... aging. her hands began to take on wrinkles, and her attire changed to match... her foe’s? The world then began to take on an environment. Madara found herself staring into a frozen lake, her face looking exactly like her foe. Trying to move her hands, she now found that she was no longer in control of her body. She could feel her arms moving, her lungs breathing, the feeling of the wind blowing through her now long grey hair, but she wasn't in control of any of it. Her eyes rose to face an opponent. A man wearing thick gray robes stood opposite him, thick patches of wool sticking out from her sleeves and the collar of her shirt. She wielded a large great sword which she held with both hands in-front of herself, the tip aimed squarely at Madara's head. About ten meters separated them, covered in thick layers of snow and ice. Madara realized at this point that she was reliving her foe’s past experiences. It was certainly a useful way to impart information to say the least.
The swordsman began to run towards Madara's foe, sledging through the snow as fast as she could. As she could see a detailed silhouette of the man's movements, it was clear Madara's foe had her Sharingan active. The details were far richer than what she could replicate with her own genjutsu. It was either the Mangekyou Sharingan or the third Tomoe. Either way, it was terrifyingly powerful. Madara's foe ducked under the broad swing the man threw at him, smashing into her ribs with a sharp right elbow. The warrior staggered back a few feet, and Madara's foe took advantage of the situation to leap back several meters, creating a solid distance between the two men. Madara's foe then slammed her hands together, forming the bird hand sign. Madara found she could fear the exact detail of the technique that was being performed as though she herself were casting it. Madara's foe's magic was being molded in an unusually spiritually based mixture, with only a tiny splash of physical energy. Once the hand seal was formed, she could see a disruption in the magic flow of her opponent. Genjutsu. So, this was how Madara's foe was going to keep her in place, by making her relive battles where he used this type of jutsu, making her feel every detail of executing the technique.
The swordsman dragged herself to her feet, and began swinging... at thin air? While the soldier fought a non existent version of what Madara could only assume was her foe, the real one walked up behind her and casually slit her throat. As the blood from the man's throat sprayed out, it froze in mid air, before... returning to her throat? The world started playing in reverse, taking Madara through the events that just folded out straight to the moment where her foe began casting the jutsu. There it stopped, and Madara once again lived through the sensation of casting the jutsu in question. However, this time, once the technique was cast she was instantly at the start again, casting the move on the ground again and again for what felt like hours. Finally, after casting the jutsu on the man for the thousandth time, the world before her shattered like glass and the world turned black. Madara's eyes opened and she found herself lying face down on a field. Upon dragging herself to her feet, she paused to check her body, and found that she was once again herself. Taking a moment to examine the environment, Madara found she was in a world that was torn straight from the pages of history. Large crystalline obelisks of every imaginable color floated through the crimson red sky, their faces adorned with text of a language she had never seen before. While she couldn't clearly make out the markings on most, the closest spire, a large gray obelisk, had a series of strange markings that weren’t even legible what did that even mean? It clearly wasn't from any language Madara had ever seen before.
"Stop Day dreaming." the sound of Madara's foe barking at her dragged her attention away from the unusual surroundings. Looking around in an attempt to locate a physical representation of her foe, Madara instead found that she was surrounded by... people, if you could call them that. They had no facial features to speak of whatsoever. They had no eyes, no mouths, no noses, no hair whatsoever. There was only a tiny amount of muscle definition, and no clothing whatsoever. "You've lived this long. You know how it feels. Now hurry up and die. These dummies all have normal chakra systems. The more magic, the harder it is to disrupt a system. The darker their skin is, the more magic they have. Once you disrupt their magic, they will explode. You aren't leaving this realm til they're all dead and there’s no way you have enough chakra for that" Madara sighed, staring at the various faceless men. The one she had been facing was as pale as a piece of paper, while the one directly behind her was completely black.
Not wanting to spend any more time in her foe's genjutsu than she had to, she quickly got to work trying to disrupt the chakra flow of the dummies. Focusing her attention on the first, most pale of the training dummies, Madara split some of her chakra off, beginning to change its composition. Traditionally, Madara's chakra was focused in a fifty to fifty ratio between her spiritual energy and her physical energy. That was the traditional formation for most techniques she knew as well as most other techniques in the real world. Genjutsu, however, was far more reliant on “yin”, or Spiritual energy, with little, and on rare occasions, no “yang”, or Physical Energy. As Madara channeled her chakra towards her hands, which from the previous exercise had instinctively formed the bird hand seal, she found herself molding in spiritual energy en route to ensure the composition was far more spiritually balanced. Once it reached her hands, she found it flowed freely from her body straight into the dummy. The ghostly white man's chakra system was clearly disrupted, as it exploded, removing itself from the field of play. It seems the training method her foe had come up with to forcefully pound knowledge into her head was highly effective after all. Living a technique over and over again was completely different from having it explained to you and trying to figure out the execution without experience of executing it. Madara had always failed when it came to genjutsu for this exact reason. Still, now wasn't the time to talk like she was some expert after destroying the easiest dummy. She had five to go, each darker than the last.
“hehe, you’re running out of time kid,” The pirate lookout said. “Any minute now backup will arrive and you’re dead meat!”
Madara decided she would get a better read on what was going on not only with herself but with her opponent if she activated her Sharingan. While she only had a Three Tomoe Sharingan unlocked, it was enough to see chakra flow, and as such see when a chakra system was disrupted. And so, repeating her previous process with increased visual clarity thanks to her Sharingan, Madara once again formed the Bird hand sign and morphed her chakra into Yin chakra, which she channeled into the dummy. The second dummy exploded like the first, and Madara felt a burst of confidence. She was starting to get this after all. The third met with the same fate as the first two, showering the environment with their blood before the chunks of their bodies vanished into nothingness. However, on the fourth dummy, Madara found her first attempt did nothing. She saw a brief flicker in the dummies chakra network but it was overpowered. Hmm. Just like her foe said, the larger the chakra pool of the individual, the more resistant they were to disruption. Clearly the flaw was in her execution, however, and if she refined her abilities she would be able to disrupt this “stronger” opponent. The flaw was in one of three areas: Either her problem was simply not enough chakra being used to disrupt the opponent, or the chakra composition had either not enough or too much Physical Energy mixed in. Madara doubted it was too much Physical energy given that it was genjutsu, so at first she decided to keep her chakra Ratio the same and instead simply increase the amount she was using. While she saw the target's chakra was disrupted for a longer period of time with a larger amount of chakra, it didn't work as she had hoped. Clearly throwing more chakra at the problem wouldn't solve the issue. Instead, Madara decided to use her original amount of chakra and simply add more Spiritual energy to the composition. her assumption was correct, it seemed, as the fourth dummy exploded like the first three upon adding more spiritual energy. Two to go.
The next dummy exploded with exactly the same ratio as the previous one, until finally Madara found herself facing the final dummy. This one, unlike the first five, was Jet black, an indication that it would be harder than the others. It had so much chakra that simply looking at it hurt Madara's eyes, and she found herself wanting to deactivate her Sharingan just to spare her eyes. Regardless of her desire however, Madara forced herself to stare at it, and, with a new found determination, she slammed her hands together, forming the bird hand seal. Using the previous ratio and amount as the last two dummies proved useless, and not even a blip in it's chakra flow showed up. At present, Madara was using a Seventy Five to Twenty Five ratio in favor of Spiritual energy. Deciding the only solution was to up the stakes of both, Madara forced her ratio up to a whopping Ninety percent Spiritual energy, as well as increasing the amount of raw chakra she was throwing at the dummy. Forcing this raw mass of chakra based fury through her arms, Madara released it directly at her opponent. For a few seconds, nothing happened, and then finally, Madara saw some disruption in her chakra flow. The disruption was tiny at first but slowly grew and grew, until finally the dummy exploded. Unlike the last five, this explosion was massive, engulfing Madara and the landscape around herself, reducing the artificial world to nothing.
Madara's eyes snapped open, and she found herself staring into her foe’s Sharingan. Although she knew enough about these kind of genjutsu to know that little time had actually passed, she felt like she had been stuck in hell for a week straight. ”Holy hell you actually escaped. Well then, I’ll just have to put you in another one!”
But Madara wasn’t going to have any of this. She formed the handseals to make water clones which quickly formed next to her. She sent her clones after the pirate while she bound him in place with her own binding jutsu. The opponent was very fortunately unable to conjure his own clones in time before he was completely restrained. He did his best to cast as many jutsu as he could in a very short period of time but eventually he ended up dead on the ground.
“One down, nineteen to go,” Madara said tiredly. This time she wouldn’t be so careless. Anyone she encountered would be assumed to be a pirate and furthermore she would make sure she was invisible.
Madara could just imagine what her sensei would say to her without any emotion in his words if he knew she had gotten stuck in that kind of genjutsu. She didn’t want to think about it really. She quickly turned invisible and started jogging down the beach until she spotted a deep blue bay. She saw a makeshift guardhouse of sorts, made out of wood. It was probably created from some kind of jutsu. Madara could sense a form rise from a pillow and leave the building silently. Madara, meanwhile, simply stayed there until her target left before trying to move forward. She was barely able to hold her own excitement, and after jogging up behind the pirate she threw a shuriken that went right into the back of his neck. The pirate let out a scream but a few more shuriken that flew behind him made sure to finish him off. Madara went to retrieve the shuriken then shot a fireball at the guard house that eliminated a number of sleeping guards.
Madara was wary of more enemies being part of the Uchiha clan, she knew for a fact that painting all people with the same paintbrush was wrong, she knew that people weren't guilty of the crimes that people in their village or their family had committed simply because they were either related or lived together. She sent a water clone to check on the next person who didn’t look to be all that strong. That being said, the man didn't know which clan she was from, so she would have had no way of knowing what she was saying and to who... although, admittedly, she was annoyed at the comment, the man probably thought that she was trying to help and to be comforting. it was not as comforting as the man clearly thought, rather it was the opposite. She didn't need his great words of wisdom right now, she needed to be able to deal with what was going on in his life. Still, she gave her a look that portrayed just how nonplussed she was with that little response, before explaining in detail his thought processes.
The clone struck up a conversation with the man about Uchiha while transformed into one of the people that Madara had disposed of already. "Don't accuse me of things that you don't know about properly. I am from a clan that has been insulted and abused and thought of as monsters because of the fact that we come from a bad line of people. My great great great grand father tried to destroy the entire village that I now work for, and allied herself with one of the most corrupt and evil people in the history of the world. I am not him, no more than a shinobi is the one who hurt my family simply because they live in the same village. I'm not going to go out and kill people simply because other people killed people, that's not how the world works...." she paused for a second, correcting herself. It was a sad thing to admit but that actually was how the world worked. the world seemed to love to put people on a pedestal and then push them off, simply because it could.
"... that IS how the world works, but it shouldn't be. that's why I'm going to become a kage of my own village someday, I'm going to work and fight until I can become worthy of the title, and then I'm going to change how the world works. I'm going to stop the dependence on violence and backstabbing to solve the worlds issues, I'm going to make sure that people are able to trust each other and that anyone who discriminates against another because of clan or village are dealt with swiftly. Death sentences only for those who can truly never reform themselves and would be a threat to the world left alive." she gave a softer look at the pirate, adding "Whether or not you believe in the total sanctity of life, I have met people who were little more than threats to those who seek to live peacefully in this world, threats to the very humanity that you should be striving to try and protect. If you want to be able to protect the world and the people that you care about, you have to be willing to kill people that are unable to be reformed - Don't wage war because of a single man, you deal with it with words if you can, but if not singular and silent action, don't taken out an entire village because a single man pissed on your petunias."
Once that was said, she went back to the man talking about his outfit. She talked about the color pink, and suddenly all the seriousness was gone from the pirate’s face, instead curling into a teasing smile the same way a big brother might give to a little brother, despite not knowing this man very well they seemed to get on pretty well despite their clear differences. It was this very reason that she was able to laugh with her mere seconds after being so deathly serious.
"There is absolutely nothing wrong with the color pink, to be able to embrace your masculinity you must first be able to embrace your femininity." she said, before sticking out her tongue playfully. Really, though, they were natives. They were supposed to be dedicated to the ancient art of stealth fighting, so why was it that they were running around in clothes that would make them stand out eveywhere. Some people would only not stand out in a circus ring, and those people somehow managed to be sneaky and stealthy. She would never understand how people seemed to be unable to deal with things like that. It was like walking around in high heels, it might be fun to do but it probably wasn't safe.
And, without answering the movement, she nodded. His hands moved to hold each other, slipping behind his back as if she dreamt of becoming a kage herself, his position stiff and serious, despite the light and playful conversation they were having with one another. "You know, I don't understand the importance that people put upon people after they're dead. With people like you and me, we mourn these people because we loved them in life and so will continue to do so after death. But I have seen people who have cursed and foamed at the mouth and sworn blind upon several different deities that they wish a certain person would fall down dead, then the moment they do they're instantly kissing the dead man's ass. If you're going to be a sycophant to them, do it whilst alive. If not, you're just praising a corpse, and that thought in of itself is pretty creepy."
During this conversation Madara had managed to move her real form several meters behind the pirate. All the while more pirates had come to join in on the conversation. There were a handful now huddled together and laughing. Perfect. Madara used her fire jutsu to blow up the ground they stood on and they fell to their deaths. Well, they may not have died but they weren’t about to stop her from dealing with the rest of their friends.
Madara could not sense anyone else outside of the pirate ship. She assumed that the rest of the bad guys were probably in there. She snuck past the guards since she was invisible to basically anybody that might happen to be sensing for her. It was pretty easy to find the captives. They were tied up on the deck of the ship. There wasn’t really much to rescuing them. She used a genjutsu to paint an illusion that the captives were still there and meanwhile she turned visible and led them off to the side of the ship, after cutting free their restraints of course. Now she was in a conundrum. How was she supposed to lead these people away from harm? She moved them to the rear of the ship where there were no pirates and she saw that none of the bad guys had noticed the illusion jutsu yet. She found some rope and cut it so that the prisoners could slide down it all the way down to the water.
And so they escaped. The only minor hangup was that the bad guys noticed soon after. Luckily Madara spent time rigging the ship to blow while the civilians escaped. As soon as everyone was far enough away Madara used a fire jutsu to light the ship up from afar. Boom, no more pirates.
Awakening the next day, Madara wouldn't waste time, grabbing only a piece of toast, she’d rush out of the house, making her way to the mission office to collect her payment. "Just one more mission here... then to figure out what to do with all this money I’ve earned..." Dodging people left and right, she made her way through the crowded streets. The girl was running so fast, she couldn't even get a good look at anyone's face. The only thing that stopped her movement was the voice of a familiar person.
Madara smiled at a woman she rescued wholeheartedly, and continued on to the mission office. Finally reaching there, she’d face the payment officer who she had gotten to know recently. Quickly she handed in her paperwork. The clerk formed some seals, molded it into threes, performing only the bird handseal to apply the fuuton element to a piece of paper, then released. Once again, the same from last night, the three collided with the paper, essentially signing a check. She then handed it to Madara who could redeem it for cash at a bank.
