Re: The Power of Sound (Mission)

As Quinn stepped out of the chamber of silence Yukina also came to at the same time, seemingly awakened by the chimes of the door as Quinn passed through it and he sighed audibly with relief and seemed to bodily deflate as the pent up stress flooded from his body at once. Rokku patted Yukina on the back reassuringly, frustrated that he couldn’t talk, Quinn had continued the silence and he was uncertain if that should be the case as well so erred on the side of caution. He opted instead to smile and offer a fist bump to each of his companions hoping his intention of saying ‘its all fine’ would be communicated by the simple gesture and a smile.
Rokku was uncertain how to react when Quinn revealed several small sheets of chain mail which prompted him to wonder if she just kept random bits of metal on her person. Things took an even odder turn when Quinn began stroking it, producing a soft jingle of sound and handed one to Rokku before gesturing again to try it. Rokku stroked the chain mail hesitantly and it produced a soft jingling noises similar to Quinn's and he smiled again before giving a shaky thumbs up towards the blacksmith. Clearly it meant something to her and was intended to help some how and though he could not deny it was expertly made and the jingling was comforting he was unsure what else to do it it. He stroked it a few more times as Quinn watched before offering it back with a thumbs up gesture and placing his hands together with a little bow to them.
Rokku took out his pad and pen and wrote hurriedly as Yukina bowed before tapping her on the shoulder so she would lift her head to read it. The pad read: ‘everything is fine, no need to apologise, it was pretty freaky in there.’ He proceeded to flip the pages and write another message and added a smiling sun at the end that read ‘Takoyaki sounds great! I could do with more food before we head to the training grounds as well’.
Rokku waited until the other two were ready to go and headed into the village to obtain and eat the promised Takoyaki with much enthusiasm before heading to the training grounds for what he hoped would be the final stage of his training to learn the sound element. He listed intently to the instructors discussion of the sound element and eagerly picked up a guitar and began tuning it automatically so it had the same tone and pitch as his own guitar. It needed very little adjusting and Rokku nodded appreciatively.
Once they were split off to practice on their own Rokku first opted to practice with his voice, perhaps just to make sure it had not disappeared. He drew in a deep breath and began infusing the chakra like he would do with the wind element but instead focusing more on making the air in his lungs vibrate much more rapidly as he let out a piercing yell that echoed outwards but ultimately failed to produce the precise effect he wanted. Rokku could feel that the true element of sound had to be purer and more destructive, just like how the instructor had demonstrated it. Rokku took a break from using his voice and instead focused on transferring chakra through the instrument, creating a circuit of chakra via his body so as not to lose too much in the practice attempts. This seemed to work much easier for Rokku as he was more effectively able to visualise and stimulate the vibrations from the guitar as he began strumming power chords, generating vibrations and holding back the pent up chakra to release in an instantaneous burst of sound and power that pierced the air and shocked him enough to stumble backwards and almost trip. Fortunately, he found his feet and planted them firmly on the ground before trying again with each attempt more successful than the last.
Finally he began releasing shockwaves of super vibrated air that echoed outward and he could fell the power travelling away from him through the air and the ground at his feet as hid chest cavity was filled with a powerful but enjoyable vibration from his technique. Rokku was elated at the feeling, it was everything he hoped for and more. Rokku spent the remaining time practising with his voice, which he found a little embarrassing around his friends. He knew he could shred on a guitar but his singing voice was not suited to his favoured genre of music and was much more delicate and classical sounding. Apparently he had gotten his singing vocal chords from his father. Eventually he was able to pick up a similar feeling when releasing the sound element form his mouth but it was rougher and much less refined than his use with the guitar. Rokku shrugged and settled on the fact that he would now needed to work on releasing it through his voice as well as practising with his guitar. He rejoined his friends with a boyish grin on his face. “I think I got it guys, its feels so awesome, a much better kick than the wind element for sure. He turned to Quinn, I don’t get how you manage to stay so clam and quiet all the time, I can’t imagine choosing not use the sound element!”

Once the two settled down and into the groove of stuff, Quinn retrieved the two fidget sheets that were in their possession. It was a new thing that the Forgemaster had done as a small fidget tool to help refocus and comfort which lead to a distinct decision for them in the process of seeing the two. Upon hearing Yukina’s voice, Quinn listened and nodded in understanding. “Silence is difficult. Important to understand. Our sound is life. However silence is not without life.” Quinn added before looking between the two. Recognizing they had a difficulty in the silence whereas they did not, the Blacksmith of Otogakure pondered for a moment before speaking up once more, “Silence allows your own sound grow.” They declared to the two. It was not some profound comment but with the directness of Quinn, perhaps the words found their intended place for them. “Where others are silent. Us Shinobi remain.” They added in before giving a thumbs up to Yukina and returning Rokku’s fist bump.
With their time in the chamber concluded it was time for the trio to have another food break with a meal supplied by Yukina this time of Takoyaki. A smile remained through their time eating together as it did not truly leave when they had exited the chamber. Quinn’s indomitable nature seemed to just continue on its own beat as they proceeded and wrapped up the second day. It was then for them to find their avenue through to the third and final day, learning the Sound Element of the village. There was a distinct remembrance from the last time they attempted and perhaps this would be different. There was a degree of distance that Quinn had with the element of Sound due to their inherent nature. Now they felt they had grasped the foundation but was unable to produce any effects. Without being deterred, they wished the two a fair parting before going home to rest for the following day of training.
It was individual sessions that they were going to be undertaking. Thus Quinn felt comfortable more so due to the fact that they were themselves older, and generally a slower learner. Some would argue otherwise, but the Forgemaster was acutely aware of their own shortcomings and did exceptional work to try to keep up with others of the younger generations. There is a lot to consider for the older Shinobi how they would keep up with Yukina and Rokku I just graduated from the Academy not too long ago. When they left the forage early that morning to go to the designated meeting spot, the blacksmith simply looks towards the Academy, and gave a smile, knowing that if the future generations surpass them, then it would be for the best of the village. Their stoic face shifted from a loosely expressionless one to one of pride. They were excited for the growth of the village, and were excited to be a part of it.
Upon arrival, Quinn great instructor, with their standard wave, and reading, knowing loosely what to expect with the understanding of protocol to the procedure of learning more about the advanced element of the village. there wasn’t much to talk about as the understanding of the importance of sound was already given to the blacksmith. At which point all of their time together was just for momentum and learning for them. The showcase of ability towards adjusting to the new affinity was in astounding showcase for the one who once was unable to perform. The growth over the past few months for Quinn seemed unprecedented for most but for the tenured blacksmith, it seemed sluggish in comparison to other gifted young individuals who shined within the village. From peers they had met like Zidane and Mubu who were wrong and showed promise, to Harune and Raikur who had unique sparks, to Hanzo and Sebastian who rose to new heights alongside Kaito, to now Yukina and Rokku who were becoming new stars in the village, Quinn was just another nail in the studs or a rivet in a joint. They found themselves as just another piece of the puzzle and that expectation was not changing anytime soon.
Upon return to their newfound friends, Quinn saw Yukina and Rokku and offered a wave before gathering up to discuss the growth they had garnered thus far with their latest set of missions. Hearing Rokku’s words, Quinn gave a light shrug, “Last time couldn’t do it. Feel more confident now. Wind was last basic element. Learned another advanced one. Sound came after.” They indicated with their own gesture of their equipment showing no instrument but their hammer and their bat. With the comment about not using sound, Quinn took a moment to consider an appropriate response to it. “Some have the knack. Others do not. I hope to grow. Incorporate it into my work. Sound visit Fosters Forge. Listen to our sound. Music to ears comes in many forms.” They decided on the words before looking to Yukina to see their thoughts on the matter. “Silence is a sound. The sound of focus. The sound of isolation. The lack of sound.” The Forgemaster added in before looking between the two.
They had grown and undergone one of the more vital mission series the village had in rotation for the trio. Having undergone it with Mubu, Tatsuya and Raikur once before Quinn felt bad for not being a better help for the two. A light sigh escaped their lips as they considered the alternatives present. They had some degree of experience for the group and felt like there was something more that could have been done. “I can teach more.” Quinn chimed in after a moment. “If there is skills. Specific techniques. I might know them. I hope to help. Help foster the village.” They declared before giving a thumbs up and offering a fist bump this time to the two. A sign of growing friendship and respect that Quinn could pick up from the younger group. Since Rokku seemed so eager to offer the gesture, the Forgemaster felt it was right to initiate it before the group fully departed for the rest of their day. “Cannot wait to hear your songs.” Quinn vocalized before giving a bow and leaving the two to their own accord. The next time they would meet there was a chance to grow even further than this latest movement of their melodies. The battle bat that was on their back glinted in the light of the day as did the signature hammer on their hip.

Still shaken from what she had endured in the chamber Yukina stayed rather silent as they walked to and then enjoyed their meal, only smiling and responding as needed. The melodies of the world still seemed... muted. But they were there and she was so grateful for that. Before long she had separated from them to prepare for the next day, the day they would reveal what they had learned, the manifestation of sound. It was hard to not try sooner, to see what she could do immediately but she knew from her experience in the chamber that this was not to be rushed. She appreciated Quinn's words. Silence was a tool and had power in and of itself. Even if it would be one that she struggled with.
Her family noted her odd behavior in the morning but wisely chose not to comment on it. They knew she was going about what was considered a sacred task in the village. Learning to master the element of sound was something truly special and not to be interrupted. Though Yukina could tell her younger sister in particular was dying to know what had put her in such a mood.
Before long she had left her family behind and met up with her comrades. She greeted them with a sheepish, but also warm, smile. She hoped neither of them would comment on her breakdown yesterday. But soon all thoughts of that vanished from her mind, both in the teachings from Quinn and Rokku's vast display of elemental mastery. Not to be left behind Yukina used her best instrument of all, her voice.
As she sang she put her chakra into the music springing forth from her. She felt it, each sound that poured forth from her was touched by her chakra and even more amazing, it was the first time she truly heard a song that felt like it came from her. Tears sprung to her eyes as she finished. A bit embarrassed by her emotion she bowed quickly to Rokku and scurried away. She'd need time to process all that had happened to her over these past few days. Something huge had happened and it was only in small part merely learning the element of sound.

Rokku listened to Quinns advice carefully, he couldn’t pretend to fully understand the lessons within her words yet, Rokku knew silence had its own kind of power but he thrived in the cacophony of his creations and the world around him. He was intrigued to see Quinns forge however and he was sure it would be filled with sounds he was less familiar with, metal striking metal like percussion and roaring flames is what he imagined but in honesty new little of the art itself. Rokku gave a respectful bow to Quinn. “I would be honoured to accept you invitation to visit your forge. I am sure there is much more I can learn from you and I will try to practice silence whilst observing.” Rokku smiled broadly at his last statement.
Rokku sought out Yukina to see how she was doing but noted tears and her leaving quickly, he frowned uncertain if she was able to succeed and making mental note to ask her about it next time they met up. Rokku headed home after providing a quick bow and thanks to the instructor and Quinn once more, sneaking in and resting on his bed as he practised kneading the chakra of sound in his body.
