Mission.
The tin rasp of his ventilator made his words very easy to misconstrue. Even mundane conversations with Carrion often led to misunderstandings. His struggle with daily communication, evident in his practised body language, revealed a lifetime of dealing with this personal issue. Enunciating more clearly may have been poignant, however unintentionally rude. The elderly civilian's hearing was questionable at best. His eyesight, however, worked just fine. Carrion's austere appearance was offputting. The gentleman made his queries unobtrusively, "I'm not in some kind of trouble, am I?" Carrion replied jovially, "Nah. You look pretty healthy for a man of yore age, eh." Relieved, although Carrion still registered confusion on the older man's expression. "My name is Carrion. It is nice to meet you. I am here to assist you with meal preparations for this evening. " Carrion's words were meant to reassure, to make the elderly civilian feel at ease. The sentiment was mutual, although the presence of the shinobi was a matter of contention in this frontier of the civilised world. "Oh, well, if that's the case?" The man inquisitively rummaged through his pockets before continuing, "Here is a list of things you can get from the local market. "
Carrion accepted the responsibility of procuring the ingredients the elderly fellow requested. Glancing at the list as he walked, the young student made no effort to haggle when bartering for goods. However, he was polite and friendly, attempting to be respectful and courteous where appropriate. The freshness and quality of the produce were a testament to the climate unique to the area of Haven. The locals knew this and were proud and, not surprisingly, knowledgeable when Carrion inquired about their agricultural techniques. He would have liked to ask extensive questions about herbs and their distinctive properties, but he felt no need to be more verbose, and the thought of attempting to be more eloquent made him feel queasy. Daylight's fickle rays slowly ebbed, revealing a starry night sky. Carrion's freedom had its constraints, so he finalised acquiring the remaining ingredients.
Upon returning, the elderly gentleman realised how little instruction Carrion required. The student began cleaning the kitchen and setting the table autonomously, showing a healthy amount of initiative. The elder allocated exact portions of proportionate sizes for each expected guest. The man instructed the student on culinary techniques learnt over a lifetime of cooking. Carrion did his best to implement these cooking skills for the guests who arrived soon afterwards. They observed him like hawks, but his contentious countenance did not seem to upset them. After his introduction, Carrion exhibited careful attention to etiquette and politeness. Being supervised while cooking felt strange, but they explained that it was traditional for them. "Dinner and a show, eh?" They chuckled at his apparent attempt at humour. He found them cheerful and welcoming when they included him in their celebrations. After the meal, the guests departed, and Carrion cleaned the kitchen. He found a generous amount of ryo left as a gratuity, which Carrion accepted happily.
