Stop Chasing Me, I did Nothing Wrong! (Mission) Empty Stop Chasing Me, I did Nothing Wrong! (Mission)

Learning the Ropes:

Shit. Shitshitshitshitshitshit.

I cannot believe this is happening to me. Kuiaratame will NEVER let me hear the end of this if he finds out…

These were the thoughts racing through her head as she sprinted deeper into the woodlands, her blue hair flowing behind her in a tangled mess of leaves, twigs, dirt, and hair. The small woman had gone to visit the neighboring village, having grown bored of the commodities and people residing within the Land of Honey, yet here she is, being labeled as a criminal and chased through the woods. Of all things, never did she expect to be accused of such a horrendous title nor did she even understand why they were accusing her in the first place. The only thing Sakura could think of was that they were discriminating against her for being different from them; for being an outsider.

None of them had been treating her with any hostility or resentment, everything had been going well; the people had left her alone and didn’t bother interacting with her, the shopkeepers barely said a word as she combed through their wares, and she was getting discounts on everything she bought! It was the nicest welcome to a village she had ever seen, so why did they all of a sudden decide she had stolen something valuable from one of the bigger stalls in the area?

Sakura hadn’t even been able to go to the stall and browse what they had to offer when some of the villagers had begun to yell at her and others had run off, screaming that they were going to get the authorities involved. She had tried to reason with those that were nearby, calmly stating her case and showing any evidence she had that would prove her innocence, such as the fact she didn’t have the item they claimed she had stolen in her bag.

Her arguments had fallen on deaf ears and she realized no one would even attempt to hear her side of the story, it was then that she could see people in uniforms headed towards her. Instinctively she had turned on her heels and darted in the opposite direction, running as fast as her short legs could take her. She didn’t run because she was guilty, but she wouldn’t allow herself to be locked up in a prison, especially for something she was being wrongfully accused of. How dare they ignore her, call her names, and then try to lock her up!

If they wouldn’t give her the decency to explain her side of the story, then she wasn’t going to give them an easy fight.

Gritting her teeth as a few branches cut her exposed forearms, she ducked past some larger branches and jumped over a few fallen logs. The terrain, which had been tranquil and beautiful when she had first walked through it to get to the neighboring village, was now full of landmines. Stumbling across any of the deadly traps would give the shinobi from the village an opening to grab her, and getting captured was equivalent to a death sentence. If they wouldn’t hear her out when she was calmly talking to them in the village, there was no way in hell they would listen to her after she ran from them. The time for negotiating had ended, now it was kill or be killed.

Sakura took a moment while the path was clear of any debris to glance behind her, to gauge how many shinobi were trailing her and how close they were. Luckily she had gotten enough of a head start that they were far behind her, although she could tell they were quickly gaining on her, their legs longer than hers and able to gain far more distance with each stride than she could. It was only a matter of time until they were right on her heels. From the sounds she could just barely hear and the sight she had on them, it appeared there were five shinobi running along the same path.

Whipping her head back around, she looked for anything she could use at her disposal to distract her pursuers or a place she could use to hide from them as they continued the chase. Sakura was also looking out for any wildlife in the area she could replicate if she got the opportunity to slip out of sight, but the options were scarce. Most of the animals probably heard or smelled their approach and fled to safety long before she even stepped food into the woods, leaving her with only seeing squirrels and a few birds that were watching safely from their perches, theirs caws mocking her as if they knew it would be futile for her to transform into one of them.

She had never tried to transform into a bird before, and knew not what the capabilities were. Could she use the wings she gained during the transformation to fly? If not, it would immediately raise suspicions about a bird not flying away when humans approached, and her cover would be blown instantly. A squirrel was an option but it begged another question; would she be able to scurry up a tree and make it look naturally, as if it wasn’t her first time clawing her way up the rough bark?

That was when she got a better idea. Although she hadn’t seen any yet, woods and forests were naturally home to rabbits and bunnies. What if she transformed a few of her clones into rabbits to make it appear as though she was one of those bunnies to try and escape capture that way? She would have to time it just right so that they wouldn’t catch on to her trick, especially with their voices getting louder behind her. Sakura knew she would only have one chance to get this right. If she messed up, blood would be spilled.

Thinking about how disappointed her brother would be if he heard she had killed the shinobi chasing her pushed her to move a little bit faster, motivating her to succeed. His eyes would not be filled with sadness, she would make sure of that. With fierce determination shining in her own orbs, she raised her right hand into the Ram symbol and, after jumping over a large fallen tree, she created four clones of herself using the Clone Technique.

She was thankful the tree trunk was large enough to obscure their visibility from far away, as it stood at about 4 feet in height, and that it was flush with the ground so they wouldn’t be able to see her foot movements nor see the two decoy rabbits running around. Once her feet hit the ground Sakura formed the Dog hand seal and activated the Transformation Technique. She used the technique to transform two of her clones into rabbits and then the last two remaining clones and herself began running again, two of the clones running straight ahead while she ran to the right, keeping low to the ground so that they wouldn’t see her going in another direction.

While the two clones ran ahead and the two rabbits were hopping around the fallen tree, the real Sakura made sure to dodge behind trees so that they would not be able to see her movement as she continued to the right. She only stopped momentarily when she heard their huffing as they climbed the fallen tree, her back against a tree trunk that was just a bit bigger than her shoulder width. Their complaints turned into shouts as they pointed out the two figures ahead of them, footsteps thundering on the ground as some of them gave chase to the figures.

Silence echoed for a moment before they screamed out in triumphance, and Sakura, not daring to turn around to look at the situation behind her, could only guess that they had tried to capture the rabbits and were successful. That meant they weren’t entirely sure if the rabbits or the figures running were the real her, which worked in her favor as she waited with bated breath to hear their footsteps receding.

After what felt like an eternity of waiting, her ears sharpened to any sudden movements or sounds around her outside of the rampant beating in her chest, she deemed it safe to move again. Her legs took off in a sprint as she planned to exit the woodlands and take a roundabout way to get back to their temporary home.

Fortunately for the blunette it seemed as if her plan had worked to delay them long enough as she neither heard nor saw them as she ran for her life. No footsteps followed her as she exited the woodlands and made it safely back to the village she was staying in.

By the time she made it back home the sky was a beautiful orange pink hue, and normally she would’ve enjoyed the beautiful sunset, but she was far too out of breath to marvel at its magnificence. The last thought she had before collapsing from exhaustion in the safety of the room at the inn was that perhaps next time she shouldn’t skip out on cardio day. cccccccc
