The New Team 7

Navi was off to meet his new team, he tied his headband tightly around his forehead and headed off to the training field. Earlier a messenger had told him that the team leader requested a meeting at Training Ground 11. When Navi got closer to the meeting spot he paused momentarily. He hadn't seen any of his teammates yet and he got a strange feeling in his gut. He approached the meeting site cautiously until he came across the first line of trees.

Navi stopped suddenly as a strange thought hit him, what if there was a test already? What if there was an ambush in the trees, or some sort of trap in the way. His hand lay cautiously next to his kunai pouch as he approached. Then he stopped, something shown in the light between the trees. Navi crept forward to investigate. Some sort of string was tied loosely between the trees. Navi wouldn't have seen it if not for the sunlight. The strings were so small there were practically invisible.

Navi untied his headband and reflected the light from the sun onto the wire. He could see it clearly now, this was definitely a trap. He would need to use his headband to scan for any other wires. Before stepping over the wire Navi used his headband to examine the space above. There was another one, cutting off anyone stupid enough to try and simply step over it. By the time he had surveyed the entire first line of trees he had spotted three trip wires.

Navi climbed one of the tallest trees he could find. He wouldn't risk trying to step over any, he was sure there were others he couldn't see. Going over them completely seemed like the best option.He leapt out of the tree and had successfully past the first set of wires. Navi continued forward cautiously and stopped. Using his headband to reflect light through the leaves he could see another wire. He began surveying the area looking for a way around. This time there were wires above him too. He would need to take his time and locate each one carefully.

Navi was not well versed in traps and felt too inexperienced to try to go further. He instead waited for his teammates to show up and get to the same spot he did, maybe the three of them could work together. In the mean time, Navi got to work in surveying the area before he would decide to more forward.

Ayumi equipped her weapons, tied her hair in a high ponytail, and took her headband, which lay on her dresser, and tied it around her forehead, just behind her long bangs that frames her face, tightly. Then she went out of her room and went off to meet her new sensei and teammates. She was told by a messenger, earlier when she was out taking a walk, about the meeting with her new sensei and teammates. She was a little excited and nervous at the same time. I wonder how the sensei would be…she thought.

When she arrived at the training ground, she saw that no one was there. Where is everyone else? She thought. She started to feel anxious and began looking around for someone, but there was no one in sight. I have a bad feeling …she thought.

“ARRGGG!!! Come on Ayumi!! You’re a Genin, now!! A real Kunoichi!! You can’t be scared!!” whispered Ayumi to herself.

After she whispered that, she felt a whole lot better, but she still had a weird feeling as if there was something wrong at the training ground. She began walking when she saw something shining. It was long and thin. Ayumi shielded her eyes from the sun. Now, she can see what the shining thing was. It was a wire. She walked towards it, crouched down a few centimeters away from it, and examined it. It was long and thin and was almost invisible. Ayumi got up and look around again, squinting. Ha! There’s another one, she thought. This must be some kind of a trap the sensei must have set for us, she thought. I must be careful. I need to make a good first impression to my new sensei! Okay…now first I need to look for the traps…let see…, she thought. Ayumi looked around. There’s one…and there’s another one over there too…and one over there…and…, she thought. After she spotted all of the traps that she could see from her spot, she started to think. She decided that she would just hop from branches to branches and just avoid the traps.

Ayumi hopped from a tree branch to another. She made sure that she didn’t trigger any of the traps. Before she hopped from a tree branch to another, she would look around and see where the next trap was and dodged it. She would also keep an eye out for a shinobi or kunoichi because she thought that maybe he/she could either be her sensei or fellow teammate. Suddenly, she saw a boy perching on a tree branch nearby. Ayumi hopped over to him and said, “Hi! I’m Ayumi. Who are you?”

Navi was being so cautious that the girl's sudden appearance surprised him and made him overreact. In an instant he drew his kunai and spun it around his finger.

He relaxed as he saw her leaf headband and realized this must be one of his teammates.
“Hi! I’m Ayumi. Who are you?”. Navi paused to make sure noone else was around.
"Navi, I'm with Team 7. I'm going to guess that you are too?"

He continued to tightly grip his kunai just in case this girl was actually his sensei using a transformation jutsu to test him. Even so, he spoke politely to the girl as he introduced himself.
Navi watched Ayumi closely and waited for a response.

"Yeah, I am" said Ayumi. "Nice to meet you, Navi. And hey, put that kunai away. I'm not going to hurt you, you know." she said, and put her hand on her waist. "So, have you found our sensei yet...Navi?" Ayumi asked the boy, looking around. From her spot on the tree, she saw some wires above her head. She crouched because she wouldn’t want to risk setting the trap off. The sun was blinding so she shield her eyes. A few meters away from her was another wire. Ayumi stood up carefully, and looked around. She saw a bunch of other wires and she also realized that she was on one of the tallest tree there were at the training ground. “There are seriously a lot of traps” she thought to herself. ”there must be about 5 just near this tree”. She sighs. “So this is already a test from our sensei, huh?” she thought. She then spun around, crouched and face Navi, who was still crouching behind her, and waited for his answer.

Navi sighed, then put his knife back in his pouch. "No I haven't, but I think he's testing us to get passed these traps before we can meet him." Navi hopped down from the tree and approached the next group of traps, motioning for Ayumi to follow. He had located a total of 10 traps and he was almost sure there was more. The other person on their team hadn't shown up yet, but for all he knew their third member had already met up with the sensei.

Navi decided to press forward, with all the traps he had located he thought he found a relatively clear path. "I've already found most of the traps here before you showed up" Navi said after a deep breath.

"Follow my movements exactly". Navi jumped up and over one trap, then ducked and rolled to dodge the second one. Next he bounded off of a tree trunk and did a frontflip over the next set of traps. He landed hard on his feet, then turned back to inspect his work. It could have been done better, but he had successfully evaded the second set of traps.

Navi motioned for Ayumi to go next and patiently waited.

Ayumi watched Navi carefully. After he dodged the second set of traps, he motioned her to go next. Ayumi took a deep breath. “Okay, Ayumi. You can do this. Just concentrate!” Ayumi whispered to herself. She rubbed her hands together and started to imitate the exact same thing that Navi did. She jumped over the nearest trap, and then ducked and rolled the next trap. She then bounded off a tree trunk and when she was about to do a front flip, she was blinded. She lost her footing and fell head first. After she realized that she was falling, she tried to regain her footing. She was still blinded from the sun so it was hard since she can’t see anything. She was scared of falling hard on the ground and break her bones. She then did a somersault in the air and when her feet were below her, she felt a little safe. She then braced herself and placed both of her arms on her sides. As she was falling, she somehow regains a bit of her vision. She saw that she was only a few feet away from the ground. She then readied herself to land. She then landed on the ground hard, crouching. She winced. “Ouch! That hurts!” she thought to herself. She then stood up and looked at Navi, waiting for his next action

Navi watched as Ayumi as she mirrored her movements. At first he was impressed, she had copied him well for seeing him do it once. Near the last few tripwires she had almost messed up and hurt herself, but she seemed to have regained her footing. Navi took note that Ayumi was fresh out of the academy, when watching her he studied her movements and took note of her strengths and weaknesses. He was impressed by her speed, which was almost on par with his. Everything else seemed like it needed work.

"Good, we're meeting at that shrine up ahead, expect one more group of traps."
As Navi approached the shrine he stopped. There had to be over a dozen traps surrounding the location. Navi untied his headband and began using the reflected light to spot them as he looked for a clear route. He was so close and neither of them could afford to mess up now.

"See if you can help me find a way through here, there are a lot of trip wires set up all around the meeting place. I'll search for a way through the trees, see what you can find on the ground." With that Navi leapt up to a high branch and began the process of spotting wires.

Ayumi shielded her eyes away from the sun and began looking around. There were a few traps on the ground. Navi said that she should expect for another group of traps. She was supposed to look for a clear path, to get past the traps, on the ground. She decided to make a clone of herself to help her look for a path. “Two people are better than one” she thought and made a clone. “Okay, you go and look over there and I will look over here” she said to her clone and went and look at the wires. Her clone went. Ayumi walked and looked around. It was full of wires.

After nearly half an hour of searching, she looked over to her clone and saw that it also hadn’t found a safe path. Ayumi sighed and dispelled her clone. She actually found a path but the wires were so close to each other that no one could get past it, not her or even Navi. She knew that Navi was better than her because she saw his skills when he went past the second set of traps. She decided that she would give another try and leapt up to the highest tree branch that she could find. From the tree branch, she looked on the ground and tried to look for a path that she and Navi could get through, but there weren’t one. The ones that she found were all unsuitable. They all had too many wires. Suddenly, she heard an explosion. She looked around. “Was that from Navi or…” she thought.
