Earth and Water (Private, Training, Shino Senju)

{Alright, lets assume I did not give you those kunais.}

The boy would dash and attack Rin in the same way as before, only not aiming at his face this time. This time Chuunin decided not to use any ninjutsu, as the boy probably did not have any techniques himself, else he would most likely have shown them by now. Rin stepped left, avoiding the initial strike and then made an attack of his own. He raised his hands, the right one above the left and the left closer to his body - ready to block if need be. With the right hand he would strike at boy's side, aiming for his ribs as well as lungs. It was possible to prevent the attack from landing, but that would most likely take a block, as they were too close to each other to dodge this. No matter if the strike succeeded or not, Rin's left hand would point at Shino as he would open his palm and activate Chakra Cannon. He would limit the power of the blast not to kill the boy, but it would probably send him flying a bit anyway.

Shino, at the time his punch was dodged, would feel hopeless, "Damn..." he would think, "He is going to get me again... Another trap...". He was still expecting a trap. He was in a dead range to Rin when he used the chakra cannon on Shino... Shino would be sent flying back, and land on the ground, hitting his back. Shino would also realise he was out of energy to fight. He would get up from the ground, aiming to avoid what Rin was going to do next.

Another successful hit. As expected the boy was sent flying. He landed a few meters away. The boy looked tired and would not reengage again. Now Rin knew his limits and it was true, even being a Senju, there was nothing special about him... yet. But there will be. Rin smirked to himself, hardly the genin would notice it. He looked at the sky, giving the boy a moment to catch his breath. The clouds were moving slow and they were covering the sun, but it was quite bright down here, brighter than normal because the mist did not cover this area. Rin suddenly said "You're being too straightforward with your attacks, Shino. It's not like I'm going to keep standing there and let you punch me... A shinobi must attack in such a fashion leave his opponent as few options as possible, try to force them defend the way you want or even better leave no way to defend at all..." Rin put his hand into his pouch and squat down so his eyes were on the same level as Shino's. He took his hand out of the pouch holding three kunai and two shurikens. "This..." he said raising one of the kunais to their eye level "...this is actually a powerful tool. And while it not a legendary weapon, but a common thing you can get in any ninja village, one can still accomplish a lot with it. If experienced, probably even more than with a legendary weapon... " He wanted to test Shino in another way. "I will give you two kunais and two shurikens to use against me if you answer my questions. First: how is the technique I used on you back there called? Second: Name at least three other techniques of the same elemental nature. Third: Say what other element is used in Senju's legendary Wood release." When the boy answered all the questions, no matter correctly or not, Rin would throw two kunais and two shurikens at his feet, leaving one kunai for himself. Then he would stand up "Right... now show me how you would use those"

Shino would smiled behind the bandages that covered the bottom part of his face, covering his mouth and nose like a mask, as he answered, "Water Release Shadow Clone ? Water Release Suffocation Prison? Ummm... Water release dragon, water release tiger, water release bullet... And, Earth...".

When the boy answered all the questions, no matter correctly or not, Rin
would throw two kunais and two shurikens at his feet, leaving one kunai
for himself. Then he would stand up "Right... now show me how you would use those"

"He's lying..." Shino would think when he grabbed the weapons given to him, after stepping back a few cm's as an instinct to the kunai and shuriken thrown at him. "I doubt that there is actually a technique called "Water Release Tiger"... Anyway...". He was holding a kunai and a shuriken in each of his hands now. He would then throw the two shuriken at the Senju clan member chuunin, as he would dash towards the boy, just after the shuriken, and would try to give minor wounds to the boy's stomach with the kunai he had in his hands, not stabbing, but cutting the skin.

"Water Release Shadow Clone ? Water Release Suffocation Prison? Ummm... Water release dragon, water release tiger, water release bullet... And, Earth...". Well, apparently the boy knew what elements are used in Wood style, but technique's names sounded fishy. Rin did not know any of the techniques named. In his mind he would correct all the names mentioned. "Water Clone... Water Prison. Water Dragon Bullet and Tiger? That technique is not in the Jutsu Encyclopedia... Hm, Water Bullet... He probably meant Water Gun or Liquid Bullet..." Well, Rin did not say to answer them all correctly, last answer was more than enough. Now he knew the boy either replied incorrectly on purpose or had limited knowledge of ninjutsu techniques. Rin gave him the weapons anyway. He wanted to test how the boy would used them. Shino took one kunai and one shuriken in each hand and began he assault. First he threw both of the shurikens at Rin, who would lean aside to avoid one of the shurikens and then used his kunai to deflect the second one. By that time Shino was already at his face, swinging both the kunai attempting to cut Rin's stomach. The Chuunin would parry one kunai swing and then quickly step back to avoid the other one. He would not retaliate and let the young Senju continue his attack. Maybe he will show something interesting...

Shino would, as soon as the slashes were dodged by Rin, would let go of one of the kunais, the one in his right hand, throwing it towards Rin. The Senju clan member wouldn't have even finished his move to step back when the kunai left Shino's hand. He would then also dash towards the chuunin, sending another slash to his stomach, with the other kunai left in his left hand. Shino would thought it'd work since he was sure Rin was in a dead range to him...

...And continue he did. Just as the Chuunin stepped back, Shino threw one of the kunais right at him. While in mid air it would prove problematic to dodge the kunai so instead Rin threw his own kunai to deflect Shino's who was now coming at him again, trying to leave a scar in Rin's stomach. Since he just threw the kunai, Rin did not have an option to parry the strike like he did the last time and there was no time to get another kunai from his pouch. Only option besides ninjutsu was fist versus weapon response. As soon as he landed, Rin assumed his stance, slightly bending his knees and lowering his weight's center to gain more balance. As Shino was performing the attack, Rin's left hand would thrust forward aiming to intercept the attack and disarm the boy hopefully taking the kunai back. If it was successful the Chuunin would then make a twisting move, using boy's wrist as a lever forcing him to pass the man after being thrown off balance and maybe fall on the ground behind him.

Xyxer had been running errands around the village for the Mizukage before he decided that he needed a break. Where better than the place he practically grew up? The place where he broke his own fist from sheer determination? The figure of Xyxer was seen in the training grounds in just a few seconds after watching Rin throw a dagger. A small smile was on his face as he quickly analysed the situation; two ninjas of Kirigakure that he had had the pleasure of speaking with and training with. Rin and Shino. Curious as to how this was going to play out, Xyxer took a few steps forward and leaned against a tree to watch the battle.

Shino was thrown away by Rin, as he would see Xyxer. "Xyxer Gyojin..." he would silently say, not loud enough for the ANBU to hear it, but enough for the other Senju to. Mid-air, he would be looking down to the ground, as he would then fall down, landing on his kunai. The kunai would stab him in his stomach, piercing through him, given the mass of his body, coming from behind his back. It was a painful death for the Senju... He couldn't say his last words, but could merely scream in pain...

Rin's move partially succeeded - he managed to prevent the attack, but did not steal the kunai. Either way he twisted Shino's hand forcing him to drop the kunai and then throwing him forward. As the boy was falling Rin would hear him whisper "Xyxer Gyojin..." Rin knew the name - it was the ANBU person he sparred with not so long ago. He looked at the young Senju too late to prevent those words from being his last words. Rin's eyes widened as he saw the boy fall on the kunai Rin gave him. A silent scream came out of his throat, but it was almost instantly suppressed by the sound of dying boy's agony. It seamed very painful, but it was over quite quickly. Rin collapsed on his knees with his arms hanging powerlessly beside his body and a body in lake of blood right before his eyes. He could not stop it, he could not save the boy. Somehow he felt dying at that moment himself and a powerful fear paralyzed him. Shino was so young, he was a Senju, just like Rin himself and there was so much Rin would liked to teach him and learn from him. It was all a mistake. Why did he have to die so stupidly? So young. The future this boy might have had could have been very big, but now it ended like a young flower dies from unexpected spring's cold. Unexpectedly. If Rin acted differently just a moment ago, it would have not ended like this. Why did he twist the boy's wrist, why did he step back, why did he give the boy those weapons, why did he take him for training... Rin drowned in a labyrinth of his own thoughts. His raised his blurry eyes and saw Xyxer on a tree, though it did not pass through all that shock. What happened next was a mystery as Rin suffered some kind of mental breakdown. Although he remained quite sane, this made a serious impact on the way he would tick mentally in the future.

Rin had one memory clear from the time of his mental collapse. A leaf. It was a falling leaf. When he would try to remember it later, the leaf would look like it's frozen in time, falling for an eternity never reaching the ground. It was green like any other leaves at that time of the year, but at the same time it looked very sad even though it was green, not blue. When it would finally reach the ground, it would stop which would seam like it finally reached its goal and relaxed in satisfaction. And for that one moment the leaf would look happy even if it was sad for an eternity, now it was happy. And with that thought Rin would lose the memory, just like he lost most of the memories right after the incident.

What else is to be remembered from that time, is the fact that Xyxer confirmed Shino's death being an incident, as he was the only witness of it happening apart from the Chuunin himself, which saved Rin from all sorts of trouble. But it could never save him from his worst enemy - himself. For some time later Rin would spend lots of time alone in his thoughts. His own mind was his prison and his torture chamber, nobody did to him anything like what he had done himself. It changed him. He changed him. Death changed him. Some would call just powerful experiences road to wisdom, as only the most experienced can be really be called wise. But to Rin it was a scar that kept reminding him of his mistakes, of death. A part of him died with Shino that day.
