Kairashi builds a few puppets
Mon Dec 17, 2012 5:59 pm
The atmosphere outside was rather dark and heavy the swirling vortex of clouds moving overhead under the driving force of the wind. The ominous thunder rumbled from far off, reverberating against the buildings of Tengakure like tuning forks. A single man in a rather dark red garb stood two fingers lightly resting against the brim of his top hat, a smirk played across the young mans features as he stopped to look around at the new village. It was a fearsome sight the buildings jutting up into the skyline, as if the earth had grown fingers and was grasping for that which it would never grasp. I suppose I'll have to get used to this sight, after all my new home is here...my how different the world is, I almost wish things would go back to normal. No it is no time to worry, I have a new duty. The figure turned down a side street on his way to the small hotel where he would be staying for now until he had secured a new place of residence in the village, stooping slightly the figure would remove his hat and step through the door to the building. Giving a cheery wave to the now familiar host, that stood ever at the front desk he would mount the steps, heading downstairs to the basement the door to the stairs letting in a short breath of fresh air to the small but well lit stairwell that stretched downward before the man. Walking down the stairs carefully the mind would trail a single finger along the wall as he walked, not bothering to hold onto the hand rail. Smiling to himself the man slipped a key from his pocket and unlocked the small sparsely furnished room, stepping over to the small pile of components he had left for assembly. Humming softly to himself the man would dust off the small almost childlike frame which had accumulated quite an impressive amount. Quickly flipping the bottle of polish over, pressing a clean rag to the mouth of the bottle he would set back the bottle in the upright position and start oiling and polishing the wood of the small child like frame, turning each piece over several times before checking the joints and oiling them as well. The man paused for a moment looking over the assembled pieces; the releasable joints, small portions of the child sized puppet, and a few kunai. Looking over the parts he would start with the simplest areas fitting the head to the body, a simple task he would grasp the smooth head and small body, fitting them together carefully and securing the latch that would hold the head in place, flicking a hidden lever the chest cavity would swing open revealing a mechanism to fire a hidden kunai out from the neck that would be best triggered after releasing the neck joint, however it was still fire able if the mouth was opened and lined up with the kunai, the kunai would however have to be replaced after each firing, making it a one time shot in a battle. Re-oiling the left arm he would carefully attach it to the main body, flipping the latch in place to keep a large range of motion yet create a strong connection. Flipping the hidden seam the forearm compartment would slide open, revealing a small space, selecting a second kunai he would gingerly lay it in place, testing the mechanism that would hold it in place and slide it forward. Picking up the palm section of the hand he would test the mechanism that would open the palm to allow the kunai in the arm to be accessed, satisfied it was working properly the man would latch it in place, before flicking the manual switch to check that the kunai mechanism was working, it slid into place, the full range working so the kunai could be held straight or in a reverse grip. Satisfied the man would get up for a moment to take a short break to sip at a bottle of water, checking his progress and the time he would sigh, this whole thing was going to take awhile. Sitting back down at his work table the man would look again at the left hand which he still hadn't completed, with a soft sigh he would pick up one of the small fingers pressing it into place and rotating it until the joint locked in place. Picking up the next finger he would carefully set it in place and rotate until it locked just like the first. Repeating the process for the last two fingers and the thumb the man would look up for a moment to dry the sweat that had accumulated above his brow, letting out a soft sigh he would turn his eyes back to the puppet that lay on the work space. Picking up the puppets right arm he would attach it in place flipping the safety latch once to test for any discrepancies in the system, pulling the manual release the forearm of the puppet would seem to unwind from around a thick iron core and create a metal slat shield on the outer arm, held in place by a solid connection but pivoted to make the slats go up and down, expanding the length of the shield but shortening the height of the protected area. Flicking the manual override back to the off position the shield turned then rolled back up around the core of the forearm. Watching his creation for a moment the man would smile, he was creating a wonderful work of art. Locking the hand and fingers into place he would carefully turn the puppet over checking all the joints one last time before moving onto the legs. Slotting the legs into position and securing the latches he would test the connections for a full range of motion. Satisfied with the puppet he would set it to one side before, checking over his next set of pieces and parts. Sadly his work would have to end for the evening so the man turned and exited the room, locking it tight behind him.
The room was dark, a sliver of light shining blindingly in through the tiniest crack in the coverage of the drawn curtains, a slight metallic buzz coming from the alarm clock that sat on the bedside table. A sleeping figure rolled over slowly, opening his eyes at last to the persistence of the alarm clock. Sitting up the man would flick the alarm off, the sound of buzzing fading quickly to leave him in almost complete silence, looking around for a moment the man would seem a little confused as he almost forgot that he was now in Tengakure. Smiling to himself the man would stand up, slipping into a fresh pair of pants and picking up a clean shirt before heading off to the bathroom to brush his teeth and shower. As he stepped out of the bathroom he would don his shirt grabbing his jacket and hat from the small hook they hung from in the entry way of his small hotel room. Donning his jacket the man would step out of his room, locking it tightly behind himself before stepping off down the hallway on his way to the stairwell. Looking down the brightly lit stairwell the figure would pause for a moment to look down from the height, it was rather strange. Making his way down the stairs at a brisk pace the man would give a polite wave to the desk worker on the main floor before heading out onto the streets of the village. Placing his top hat on his head the man would look around, the scent of fresh bread lingering in the early morning air. The dew was rather heavy this morning showing that a light rain had passed by the last night, on the bright side the clouds had virtually melted away over the night and left clear skies above. Whistling a happy melody the man would follow his nose to the closest bakery, stepping inside and removing his hat with a slight flourish as he selected a few rolls for breakfast, paying the owner from some pocket change the man would exit the shop. Heading on a short walk back towards his hotel the man would snack lightly on his breakfast, having nothing left as he stepped back into the hotel he would nod to the owner, pulling his head back off of his head and setting off down the stairs to his secluded work space in the basement. Smiling the man would open the small room and hang his hat and jacket from the hook just beyond the door. Turning back to the already half finished puppet the man would sit back down, grabbing another clean rag and using it to oil the wood and metal that made up the body of the puppet until it shone even in the small room. Setting the now complete puppet to one side he would turn to the small collection of items for his second creation with a look of intense curiosity. He gingerly picked up one of the two masses of metal, unfolding it carefully the shape of a birds wing was visible, the opening of the wing made a sound like a thousand coins being slid over each other. Checking that both of the miniature wings were functioning properly the man would smile before setting them down next to a small metal body. Adjusting the wings to sit level next to the body and head he would open the hidden latch revealing a strange device inside of the hollow of the body, lined up to fire its projectiles from the beak shaped mouth of the puppet. Adjusting a few small pieces of the device he would trigger the weapon manually, a small ball bearing being loaded into position and then fired into the miniature target he had set up against an extra pillow. The ball bearing disappeared in a flash of fluffy down, luckily it hadn't gone through the wall. Setting down the body of the puppet the man would check everything was held tight for its weapon before unfolding both sets of wings and grabbing a sharpening stone to start grinding down an edge on the beautiful items. As he continued to run the stone down each individual 'feather' he would keep working until each one held a razor sharp edge, he hadn't intended for it to be an actual offensive weapon but it wouldn't hurt to have the feathers sharpened just encase. Better to be prepared than to be unprepared when I need them the most. Setting down the first wing he would move on to sharpen the next wing, being just as careful as the last time he had been working. Taking a small chisel he would carefully open both wings and set about engraving each feather to be not quite the same but replicate the living renditions of an owls feathers. Looking at the shifting way the light played across the metal feathers would bring a single tear to the mans eye, it was such a beautiful sight to behold. Grabbing the oil and polish he would start to work on this second puppet, working on the metal until it would shine so bright it might blind someone that looked at it directly in sunlight. Adjusting the pieces of the inner mechanisms again the man would carefully adjust and lock the joints into position, manually checking the range of motion for the beautifully designed metal owl. Looking down at his two creations the man would stoop picking up them both before turning around and grabbing his hat on his way out the door to deposit his new puppets upstairs in his hotel room, he really needed to get himself a new apartment or find a small home that was for sale. Ah but the man wasn't going to worry at this point in time, he had two new puppets that would be excellent to practice with, one that could 'fly' through the use of his chakra strings and the other that looked like a small child about the age of seven, it would be useful he could just feel it.

I'll register the puppets in Items here after training is done, I can keep them right?

I don't see any problem with that, as long as the puppet is registered and the word count for the puppet creation is adequate for the words that you did in their creation.
