Sky God!? (Familiar Training, Solo)
Wed Aug 07, 2013 9:05 am
Jin woke up on his usual spot on the clifface, due to having no house, this was the third day he's been like this, he was definately going to ask the Kage soon, he noted that down on his mental notepad, he'd definately forget later on and wonder why the fuck he needed to spend another night on the floor like some kind of peasant, he wasn't a god damned savage, you know, while he flies off the handle from time to time he wasn't some kind of animal though, he needed all the appliances and safety a house could offer, plus a good shower would be nice instead of having to dive into the sea for a wash, that was definately the major disadvantage, and the fact that it could get pretty cold at times but he always kept himself warm so it didn't really matter, he had the burning heart of a Terumi, and that was what really mattered, as long as he here in Kumo, with his teammates, his sensei, and that was really all he ever needed, he could deal with a couple of days worth of homelessness for this, because once he actually found a place to settle in, all of his hard work would have paid off, he'd have a proper team, and soon rise to the ranks of ANBU, the rank of his dreams, he'd only get that rank if he impressed his Kage, which is something he was going to try to do, he knew it wouldn't come easy, but he wanted to make the cut, so he was going to have to dress to impress, and he was prepared to do that if it meant actually getting that ANBU rank and going solo on high rank missions, razing entire bandit camps, all of those things would be available to him once he signed up for ANBU, it was an exciting prospect, really, and it was something he was really looking forward to.
Nonetheless, today he was going to take a look around the various mountains of Kumogakure, just to see the sights, check out what there was, these mountains probably have a lot of secrets, so it was worth checking them out, Jin walked in the direction of the mountains, with a smile on his face, there was a path which snaked up one of the mountains, it was a pretty steep path, but he was willing to take it, he trekked up the mountain, feeling the air get colder and colder as he gained altitude, well, after all, it was a mountain, and the air would probably get thinner too, but it didn't really matter, Jin was a ninja, he'd survive, he had much worse injuries than a mere oxygen thinning.
The path was basically deserted, he saw literally nothing on this path, it was completely devoid of all life, which was interesting, usually there were small settlements or something of the like on these kinds of roads, but here, just none, Jin saw a couple of destroyed cabins though, weird, did they get destroyed from just natural circumstances or? Jin was pretty clueless, so he walked towards the cabin and pushed the door, instead of the door opening, you know, like a fucking door, it fell to the floor with a wooden clatter, he saw what looked like dried blood on the wall, basically disproving his theory that this cabin was destroyed by some form of natural disaster, it definately wasn't the volcano, as the blood wouldn't even be present if the eruption had wiped out this hut, something else did it, the previous residents were killed.
A lot of the furniture was thrown about the place, a bowl full of now mouldy fruit sat overturned on the creaky wooden floor, the roof was intact apart from a large chunk of it, as if something had burst through it somehow, how strange, there wasn't anything in this hut though, apart from a lot of spattered blood, or so Jin thought.
He thought he could see a shining object near the broken area of the roof, he reached up and grabbed it, it was a feather, not just any feather, it was brown with a hint of an actual metallic color, well, metallic was just the way it looked, it didn't feel like metal at all, it was just slightly stiffer than the beige feathers, were they killed by an animal? No bird had this type of plummage, this was proving to be really interesting, maybe Jin actually had a case on his hands.
He walked through the open doorway, and continued to go up the path, the blood seemed pretty old, it was crusted onto the wooden walls, but it didn't totally blacken, it seemed as if it must've been maybe a month or so old, maybe the creature got altitude, Jin was going to see if he could find whatever the hell killed these people, that'd be an interesting quest for him, or so he reckoned.
He went up, and up, until he reached the summit of a small mountain, he saw some form of desecrated shrine, yet more blood stains covering it, what the hell was happening here?
Same feathers too, they absolutely littered the ground, some of the feathers were much longer, white with a blue tint, he trudged through the snow towards the end of the clifface where the shrine was located, but, tragically, the snow had shifted and crumbled, sending Jin falling off the clifface, and before Jin could even react properly, he had landed on something hard, another section of the clifface, thank god that shit was there, otherwise it was a several-hundred foot drop to his death, Jin landed flat on his ass though, he got up and sighed, and looked properly at what was in front of him, a rather large cave, this was interesting, maybe Jin should look, and so he did, entering the cave he didn't see much, so he made a ball of fire chakra in his hands, using that as his torch he continued his journey through the cave, he didn't really see much, it was just a wide, tall cave, Jin didn't look down though, there were what looked like droplets, droplets of blood, upon closer inspection, this case just got a lot weirder.
He continued his journey down the cave, until he arrived at something absolutely mesmerizing, it was a natural spring, there were glowing silkworms on the ceiling, and while the blood drops remained, this didn't look like the scene of a murder, maybe something lived here, or once lived here, the blood didn't seem too fresh, so Jin couldn't be sure, Jin inspected the spring a lot more closely, the water was basically a pure turquoise, it was pretty misty, but Jin thought he could see something inside it, it was round, and pretty black, he touched the water, it wasn't all that hot, less than body temperature, the mist was probably still lurking due to condensation, he figured he'd fish it out, he plunged both of his hands inside the thing, he felt what seemed like some form of plant beneath the object, and the object itself was surrounded by twigs and other sorts of heavy objects, probably not to keep it floating about, obviously then, this black thing probably wasn't some form of rock, it didn't feel that way, Jin tapped the thing with his knuckles, it didn't sond very solid, if anything the noise it made sounded exactly like the noise made by a coconut when someone tapped it, somewhat hollow, but had some form of liquid effect, this thing definately wasn't a rock that was for certain, he didn't really know what it was. It sure as hell wasn't a fruit because there were no trees anywhere around here. There was only one real conclusion then. It must've been an egg. While the shell was incredibly hard it wasn't as hard as a rock. And it sounded different when you tapped it so it was obviously an egg.
It'd make sense that the creature that laid this put it in the springs. It was to incubate it.
Unfortunately winter was coming and the springs became colder so the incubation wasn't as effective as before, Jin was going to try something though.
He placed the egg on both hands and channeled his fire chakra into it, he felt the egg become hotter, there was obviously a liquid inside of this. It felt like holding a hard hot water bottle. He wasn't going to shake it because that could kill whatever was inside the thing so he was going to try and incubate it.
After a solid minute he thought he heard a crack, he quickly looked around and then down at the egg, where a chip was missing on it, it was dark inside so he couldn't see in it.
He heard some form of a chirp and then a hiss as whatever was inside scrambled around for freedom, chips flying wildly off the egg the creature was something that Jin did not expect him to see he didn't even know what this thing was. It was like a snake, but it had tiny, tiny wings on it. The thing was about 2 foot long, about a centimeter thick and with a wingspan of about 2 inches, this thing was freaky, Jin didn't really know what to do.
The creature hissed and chirped, it didn't really attack Jin at all, it just chirped away and hissed, Jin understood.
He had incubated the egg, so the hatchling of whatever the hell this monster was thought that Jin was its mother, interesting. Would this thing be good as a pet? He couldn't even tell.
Jin wiped off the residue of the egg "white" and shell off of the snake thing with his scarf, getting a hiss from the creature, who then proceeded to bite the scarf.
Unfortunately, the creature lacked fangs so it just kinda gummed at it, which was pretty cute.
Jin pet it on the head to calm it down, getting a satisfied chirp from the creature.
So what was this thing? He hadn't seen anything like it, it definately wasn't a snake, or a bird and he didn't think dragons existed so what the shit was this?
He looked around, and he thought he saw a mural on the other side of the spring. He walked towards it and read it, the silkworms above were incandescent enough to give some lighting, he could barely read it, it was like some form of ancient language, but he saw something in the water, a body, this was old it was all festered already, it was at least 10 years old here, he saw something a lot better though, a scroll, he fished it out of the water and looked, it was like some form of codex, it translated the symbols of this language into letters that Jin could comprehend, he looked at the mural again, it had drawings of giant snakes with wings, eating humans, with a long sentence in strange scrawl at the bottom, reading it, it said "Quetzalcoatl" after he had translated it, was that what this thingy was? Maybe.
He looked on the other side, he compared the codex with this huge block of text, each one singled out, the codex said that these scrawls were names of these creatures, so obviously, there were more than one then, each one with a name.
Jin read through the names, coming across a long list of names, the creature hissed towards one in particular.
"Etzli?" He spoke to the creature, which cocked its head as if it understood, fair enough, the creature seemed to like it, so why wouldn't he? It turned out, this name meant "Blood." in whatever language this was written in, maybe this body was the body of an archeologist, who died translating this mural, how strange.
Jin set off out of the cave with the codex and the bag that the body held on to, he saw a journal in it, it could be of some use when it came to understanding these creatures.
