Mission Marathon Empty Mission Marathon

Thu Aug 29, 2013 1:23 pm
Corvin had so many ideas for cool puppets rolling around in his head, but the problem was that he simply could not afford them. Money was doomed to be his limiting factor it would seem. With that in mind, he decided to spend the next few days doing missions.

Mission 1:

Walking over to the mission boards, Corvin's eyes were immediately drawn to higher ranked missions. His mouth drooled at the prospect of being able to do some of those. He just needed to do well in the current Chuunin exam and he was home free for these missions. Unfortunately, for the moment he was stuck with D ranked missions. The first one on the board sent Corvin's blood to a near boil. The same little brat that he had caught in a previous mission was at it again. He was half tempted to kill the little turd this time. Clenching his jaw, he signed up for the mission and immediately set out into the early morning sun to find him.

He initially checked back alleys, but he was fairly sure he was not going to find the kid there. He preferred to put graffiti in places people would see often. Failing to find him in any back alleys, Corvin set off to check the side of town with the most houses. Sure enough, he soon started seeing graffiti on the fences. As he walked, he ran his fingers along the fence to try finding wet paint. It took longer than he would have liked, but he eventually found the kid. He decided that rather than catch him immediately, he was going to have some fun. He unraveled his puppet and connected his chakra threads to it. Moving his puppet silently, he moved it immediately behind the kid while remaining out of view himself. He got his puppet to tap the kid on the shoulder, and sure enough the kid went pale at the site of good old Grey. He immediately took off running down the street. Corvin was not about to let him off that easily. He chased him for a good while through back alleys and up onto roofs, always staying out of site and letting his puppet do all the scaring work.

Finally, Corvin got tired of this and decided to end it. Waiting for the kid to go down a particularly dark alleyway, Corvin used his iron sand to trip the kid and could not suppress a giggle when the kid skidded across the ground and groaned in pain. He pulled his puppet back and walked up to the kid who, upon seeing him, immediately rested his head back panting. He was far too tired to keep running at this point and knew he had been caught. Through all of his huffing, Corvin caught that the kid thought he was being chased by a ghost. He begged not to be turned in, but Corvin was having none of it since this was the second time he had to chase the kid down. Turning him in a second time brought an almost sick sense of satisfaction to his mind. He knew that the chances of that little brat going off and doing this kind of thing over again was slim to none, and he would be having nightmares for many nights to come about Grey chasing him around the village. The mission could not have been a bigger success.

Mission 2:

Heading back to the mission boards, Corvin saw that the Academy was having another day dedicated to taking a few kids out and teaching them a few things about life after the Academy. He enjoyed doing this last time around and decided it would be easy money to do it again. He signed up and headed over to the Academy. Upon arriving there, he found many of the students already heading off with various shinobi from around the village. He had hoped he had arrived early enough to not be stuck with the rejects of the class, but it was still pretty early in the day and he ended up with three pretty cool kids. There was a little girl who could not get over his puppet and decided then that she herself would become a puppet user. There was another little girl who said she was destined to be Kazekage someday. And a little boy who insisted that he was going to be the greatest taijutsu master in the world some day. After the introductions were finished, Corvin took them to see the various things they needed to see.

The first thing he took them to was the mission boards. He explained how missions are accepted, what missions could be taken on at what rank, and the best ways to spot out lame missions. The next place he took them to was the shinobi graveyard, hoping to instill in them the importance of always honing their skills and watching out for one another, while at the same time talking a little about being able to protect the village with their lives if necessary. Next he took them over to the training grounds and showed them some of the different areas for different types of training and introduced them to some people who could answer questions for them. He talked about the importance of training and making themselves stronger to be the very best they could be. After that, he took them back to the Academy and answered some of their questions. They naturally had questions about whether or not Corvin had ever killed anyone, what was the best weapon to use, how old the Kazekage was, and of course who the best shinobi in the world was. Corvin answered their questions as best as he could and sent them on their way. Easiest money in the world to Corvin's mind. If only all of his missions could go as smoothly and as pleasantly.

Mission 3:

Heading back to the mission boards, he found that again he would be destined to repeat missions he had already done. The very next thing on the mission boards was a mission involving another paint thief. Corvin had dealt with a thief previously, and he could not help but wonder if this was the same guy. Shaking his head, he decided that maybe with this mission he could get a little excitement. He did not need the painting thief to be a world class shinobi, but it might have been nice to get something other than dealing with petty crap around the village.

Thinking back to the first time there was a thief of this nature, Corvin headed out to find the run down shop that he had found the thief and the paintings the last time. When he got there, he saw that the shop was no longer run down. It was bustling with activity. He decided to check in on the shop keeper and saw that it was indeed the same shop keeper he was forced to arrest the last time. He explained to Corvin that the Kazekage was lenient on him and even helped him get his shop back off the ground. He promised to keep an eye out for any paint thieves, but it was clear to Corvin that this was not his guy. His next step was to question the households of the people who had their paintings stolen. It soon became clear to Corvin that this was a thief of a very different nature. There were three paintings stolen in total and in each case the questioning went in a similar manner. The person would talk about how much they wanted to keep this whole thing private and how embarrassed they were, but were always hesitant to give a description of the painting stolen. It turns out that the paintings being stolen were not the type that you keep out in the living room for company to have small talk about. These were pornographic paintings of wives and girlfriends that each of the people involved thought no one knew about. Sure enough though, each of the paintings were painted by the same guy.

Finding the address of the painter was easy enough. He headed over to the painters house and knocked on the door. The guy who answered matched the description, and readily admitted to being the man who painted the stolen paintings. Looking around the room, the wall paintings showed that this guy specialized in this type of vulgar painting, but he also saw that the three stolen paintings were there on the wall clear as day. Corvin questioned the painter about this and he swore up and down that the parties involved had agreed that these paintings were merely loans. He said that they allowed him to paint the person and hold onto the painting for a while to "admire" it, but that they had agreed to return them. He assumed that he was not stealing since he saw it as simply taking back his own property. Clearly, this was not Corvin's area and was something for the higher ups to decide on. He took the man into custody and notified each of the people whose paintings were stolen as to the situation and what the painter claimed. Although there was plenty of outrage, the mission was a success.

Mission 4:

Going back to the mission boards, he was met by an official telling him that he was to head to the market district immediately. There were several people coming to report being pickpocketed while shopping. Some of these reports came in only minutes ago and Corvin was to go directly there and see if he could catch the thief in action. It seemed like an easy enough task to Corvin, so he headed in that direction at a sprint. When he got there, he noticed there were already several other shinobi looking around for the thief. Fortunately, they were doing so inconspicuously and with any luck the thief would not catch on that he was being watched out for. If he bolted now with the stolen items the chances of catching him was slim to none.

Sure enough, after a few minutes of watching, Corvin caught the guy in the act. He was good, that is to be sure, but not good enough to get past the eyes of shinobi. He began walking in the general direction of the thief, knowing that if he started walking directly to him he would simply run, or worse try taking someone hostage. Corvin followed him along and watched as he stole several other items, all going completely undetected by his victims. Fortunately, it was not long before he tried to skulk away into a back alley. In one rapid movement, a stream of iron sand went flying toward the culprit and snagged him by the ankle. He was soon dangling upside down with stolen items falling out of various pockets. Corvin, for his own humor's sake, gave the guy a little shake to let loose any other items. Deciding he had had enough fun, Corvin toted the man, still upside down, down the village street to the official at the mission boards. After being laughed at by half the village, the guy was taken into custody and everyone's items were returned to them.

Mission 5:

Corvin was feeling like he was finally making progress. Between training and doing missions, he was starting to truly feel like he was living up to his headband denoting him as a shinobi. He was finally feeling proud of himself. Then, he returned to the mission boards and saw what was next in line for him. The old lady down the street's cats had gotten away again, and he would be tasked with going to retrieve them. All the pride he was feeling just moments before vanished in a puff of furry, meowing frustration. He liked cats well enough, better than dogs for sure, but he was a shinobi! He was in the midst of drawing up blueprints for puppets that could practically turn a person into ramen, and now he would yet again have to suffer the indignity of catching cats.

He hung his head a bit as he walked to the old woman's house. He found her at her front gate in tears looking around for any sign of her poor cats. Seeing her tears made him feel bad for not wanting to take the mission. He may not be out saving the village, but for this woman he was saving her world. She instantly recognized him from the last time he saved her cats, and pleaded with him to save them again. He got the description from her and headed out to search for the five missing cats. The first one, sure enough, he found right around the corner. It was happily purring as two small children petted it. He gave the cat a quick scratch on the ears and brought it back to the old lady.

He found the second cat sifting through garbage for food. He let the cat finish gnawing on whatever it was it had found and brought it back to the old lady's house. He began to wonder if the old woman, in her senility, might be forgetting to feed the cats and that it might be the reason they kept running away. He dropped off the second cat and advised the old woman to put food out for them. He found the second and third cat on a roof top as a dog barked up at them. He could not be quite sure, but he swore he could see the cats laughing to one another at the pitiful state of this poor dog helplessly barking up at them as though it would do any good. The cats offered no resistance as he went up on the roof and captured them. He walked up the street with a cat under each arm and tried to focus on the fur getting all over his cloak rather than the other shinobi he passed snickering at him. He had half a mind to throw one of the cats at them and let the cat scratch them into oblivion, but that would be cruel to the cat. He dropped off cats three and four and went off to find the last cat.

He eventually found it limping in a dark corner. There was no telling what happened to the poor kitty, but he picked it up and held it close for comfort. He made sure to stop one of his medical shinobi friends and got the poor thing's leg healed before bringing it back to the old woman. There was no telling what levels of distraught the poor old gal might get if she saw one of her cats hurt. After dropping off the final cat, Corvin hurried off before the old woman tried snagging him into staying at her house for dinner again.

Mission 6:

When he returned to the mission boards, all that was left was two shifts of patrol duty. He decided to take on the shorter of the two shifts first, which required him to scout out the perimeter of the village for any potential threats. He headed over to the village gates and checked in with the guards standing duty there. He let them know his mission and went off to scout the area. He did not expect to find anything of note, and for the most part he got exactly what he expected. There were plenty of look outs around the village walls, there was very little chance he would find anything before they did. However, every little bit helped and the village could never be too secure. Unfortunately, the only thing he saw so far was a caravan coming this way in the distance. These types of things were common enough that he may not even need to mention it, but then again there was always the chance that the caravan would be attacked and if he did not report seeing it then it may go unnoticed for too long.

He decided to make the most of the patrol and jogged the entire way to try and train a little as he did his mission. Being outside the village gates always felt a little disconcerting for Corvin. The relative safety that the walls offered made it so that he had very little worries growing up. Patrolling outside the comfort of the walls gave him a distinct feeling of discomfort. He was certain that that sort of thing would pass with time. Soon enough, he found himself back at the village gates and reported seeing a caravan on its way, but little else. This kind of mission was usually easy but boring. Oh well, it paid.

Mission 7:

The last mission on the board for the day was the night shift at the cemetery. This was the kind of boring mission that Corvin hated taking. It was so unbelievably rare that anything of note happened on these types of missions, and even when something did happen it was usually some kind of prank or something of that nature. He remembered the last time he took a mission like this when a few kids had tried sneaking into the cemetery for some fun. It had initially scared him, but he gave the kids a good scare in return as payback. Hopefully nothing of the sort would happen this night. Then again, it might be nice just to break up the monotony.

He decided to walk through the cemetery and read some of the plaques beside the larger tombstones. He read about one old woman who had apparently had a kind of jutsu that would allow her to drain all the fluids out of a person's body. He understood why this kind of technique would want to be protected from any kind of resurrection. Similarly, he found a plaque that told about a man who had a jutsu which made him able to boil the blood of his enemies at will. That kind of thing brought a whole new meaning to forbidden jutsu. How on earth could anyone defend against something of that nature? Apparently, he had gone on to conquer an entire village that had been taken over by missing-nin using the technique. Again, the jutsu was awesome and powerful enough to merit someone standing guard to prevent it from ever getting into the wrong hands.

On the other end of the spectrum, he found people that he could not believe were buried next to blood boil guy. He saw a plaque that spoke of a man who had over one hundred cats that lived with him. He was apparently a great shinobi, but the plaque never once mentioned what his jutsu were. He was apparently buried along with most of his cats. That was kind of gross to Corvin's mind and he continued walking on reading plaques. He found his own grandfather's plaque. He had died while out on some mission to fight a group of missing-nin. He had the Iron Sand technique just like Corvin, but there were more missin-nin than the reports indicated, and one of them was far more powerful than anyone suspected. The lack of intel costed his grandfather his life, although he did take every one of the missing-nin with him to the grave. This was one tomb he was proud to guard.

Finally, his shift came to an end. His replacement on duty looked as though he had just crawled out of bed and Corvin knew without a doubt that he would fall asleep while on duty for this mission. That was his problem though, as Corvin headed back to the mission boards to collect on his day's work before heading home for a well deserved rest.

Fantastic. So essentially, being in a team of 1 I have no way to make money unless I can achieve a higher rank. That is ridiculous.

Ok, stepping in on this. We have it fully written out on the rule page that you can only do a mission once, we also have it fully detailed out why you cannot do higher ranked missions.

The reason why we have it so Genin can only do E and D-Rank is due to logic purposes, also to prevent lower ranks from spamming high ranks for money and just getting items in place of power without any form of social interaction.

When you run out of missions, you register your own on the mission request board, the ones up are simply the ones staff has created for everyone to preform. So if you run out of the ones on the list, it is not an end, you can always make more.

Since this is a first time thing and you did put forth a large amount of effort, I'll give you a one time only credit of half the total ryo.

3300 ryo/2=1650

In the future if you run out of missions, please go to the mission request board and make more for you to preform.

My apologies then. I do my best to read all the rules, but I suppose some things either got forgotten or just overlooked on my part. It seems that I have a tendency to overreact with this kind of thing. I will try to be more diligent about the rules in the future and try to be more calm about it when I slip up. Thanks for the consideration, explanation, and compensation. I hope you can continue to have patience with me.
