Bakuton Element Trainin'!
Wed Mar 26, 2014 12:17 pm
Today, Kamui of the bakuton would start a new life. He may have been shunned by the other members of Tengakure because of the mouths in his hands, but he would soon show them his new talents. Er.... but something was missing. Every time he just randomly tossed clay at something, and said the phrase "katsu", nothing happened. Was it not just the sound and the clay that mattered? Well, if that were true, than anyone could say "katsu", and the clay would explode. That made no sense whatsoever. It looked like he would be trying to concentrate and learn his bloodline.
He got out of bed and walked over to the window. It was time to go outside, and into the dark depths of Tengakure. What a place, so full of light and people, but yet so full of shadows and secrets. It was a contradiction in buildings, an anomaly in architecture. He said goodbye to his sleeping parents in the form of a note ("I'm going on a training thingy, don't expect me home until very late, ok? bye") and left the building, being sure to dress somewhat warmly. Tengakure was in the northern part of the world, and so around this time of year, it was always slightly chilly. Now, it was time to get moving.
Off to the training grounds he went, which were more like urban outdoor workout centers. After all, this was Tengakure, and everything had to be high tech. Maybe other than Amegakure, this was the most technologically advanced village around. These here skyscrapers were the pride of modern architecture, and he was proud of his village... but not of his skills. He decided to head towards the training ground, hoping to find some good earth there. Ah, there he was, time to begin.
He hunched down, and did some squats, starting to warm himself up. After a few times of this, he started to feel less and less the effects of the chilly weather. So, now, he would have to go and do some chakra training. He undid the bindings over the mouths on his hands, which kept them hidden in public. It would do him no good to be walking around displaying the gruesome orifices of his heritage. Time to start the intense workout those mouths were about to get. First, to find some earth. He walked over to a patch of thick earth that had no grass on it.
He bent down, smelling the deep scent of the earth. It was produced, he knew, by a filamentous bacteria called Streptomyces, which was a common soil microorganism. He supposed that this was what produced the chemical. Yes, the chemical, which now bore the name geosmin, the "geo" part for the earth. Well, this place was trashy, as the urban citizens often dumped their waste wrappings and so forth here in the fences near the training grounds. Kamui shook his head, marvelling at the foolishness of humanity. Bending his hand down, he touched the earth, feeling the vibrations of the city.
Now, it was time to actually get this thing going. His hand gobbled up a bit of earth, and started to chew. He then threw the muck out of his hand, made a handseal, and said "katsu"!
Nope, that wasn't going to work anytime soon. He would have to take a different approach, but what? Well, explosions could be part of the chakra thing. Perhaps if he did some unpleasant chakra channeling, it would get him somewhere. He should try it, but was somewhat hesitant. Explosions could cause injuries.... but oh, how he loved blowing things up. He would just have to go and try some cool things with this. He slammed his hand on the ground, gobbling up some of the earth. He began to channel his chakra into it, concentrating carefully. Er.... was he doing it right? He sure hoped so, or else everything would be pretty much going wrong for him. He might even kill himself, which was something that he wasn't too inclined to do. So, he decided to do it in pulses first. Hmmm.... here goes! He threw out a somewhat sphere shaped mass of clay, which he hoped that he had done correctly. "KATSU!"..... er... there were a couple of sparks, but that was about it. Agh, why was this so super hard?? He kicked the ball of clay, and it bounced off a rock and blew up. Whoa! Wait wait, how did that happen? Maybe.... maybe he needed a sudden burst of chakra rather than a series of pulses.
Well, it was time to think a bit. Hmm... in order to achieve this, he would have to knead a bit more chakra, so that he could pulse it straight in to the full being of the clay. Now.... ugghh! There, that was the chakra he needed. He once more, bent down (he would have to have some back work done after this is he kept doing this) and picked up some earth in his hand. The mouth there opened wide and took in the earth, biting and chewing it down to clay. Hmm... now to infuse the chakra. He pushed the chakra briskly into the clay, and hoped for the best. However, just as it was exiting his hand, it blew up with a weak explosion, knocking him back. What, it had to be timed? Hmm.... so a remote pulse of chakra, huh. Let's see how to deal with this. He sat down on the rock. What if.... what if he had to charge up the clay with pulses of chakra, then detonate it with a quick, sudden one? It was the only option that seemed to actually make sense, so he went ahead and determined to try it. He kicked up a quick mound of earth, when he was suddenly distracted by a crowd of interested rats creeping about. Ugh, it was time to move along to another area. He picked himself up and moved along, struggling through the masses of civilians heading home.
Those were the people he was meant to protect... the people he was here for as a ninja. If anything went wrong, he would always be partially responsible, if something happened to them. He frowned, thinking of all the encroaching people who wanted to take advantage of his asphalt and steel paradise. No... this village was definitely worth protecting. He just had to get stronger, so he could actually protect it! He reached a gap in the crowd, and turned left into another training zone. Ah, this one had more bare earth, which was good for him. He hopped over a small rock, and sat down on a larger one. Ok, so here he was. Perfect timing, this, now he could proceed to do his work.
As he bent down, he noticed out of the tip of his eye a small wooden target on the other side of the training ground. He could use that to test out the clay, he supposed. It was always nice to have something to blow up, especially if the target wasn't alive. Then he could just blow it up without regret. Now, back to business.
He picked up some of the earth, noticing that it was somewhat thicker in this area. Good, it was like chewing on beef then. His mouth surrounded the earth, chewing it while infusing beads of chakra into it. Yes... he felt that he was doing it right, when he opened his hand to find there a sphere of white clay. Ok, so now he just had to do the second step correctly. He threw it at the target, and shot his chakra at it. It burst apart, but was not really an explosion. Hmmm.... so he was getting closer and closer to his true goal.
Huh! He would only stop training today when he was able to obliterate that target with his bakuton jutsu. He simply couldn't afford to stop. He had plenty of time, so he may as well spend his day here, training up to get stronger. Deep inside his mind, he honestly hoped that the generations of previous bakuton users were now smiling down on him, cheering him on as he attempted to learn and perfect their sacred art. To honor his ancestors, that was the reason that he had to get this done today. Regardless of his age, regardless of his low skill level, if he could get this done, then surely he would be able to succeed more in the genin life.
People would probably respect and look up to him if he mastered this. Yes... this was what he had to do! Making more clay, he bent over and stretched slightly, then jogged in place a little to warm himself up. He felt a little more confident in his abilities then before, and now he was all set to use this bomb he had created. He threw it up in the air, then pushed his chakra in a wave rather than a pulse. "KATSU!"
Yes... there it was, the force of the explosion. The roar as the clay tore itself apart from the inside. Oh, yes, this was what he had wanted to experience! Now, it was time to blow up that target. He picked up some of that sweet smelling earth, and chewed it up with the mouth in his right hand. Alright, now how to do this.... he lobbed the clay at the target, and just as the clay grazed the wood, he blew it up. Yay! He had managed to do it despite all the odds.
The wood flew everywhere, and he felt satisfied. It was time to head back now, but he supposed that he should practice with the bombs a bit more, and maybe store up some clay. He got down on one knee, and put both of his hands on the ground, picking up some clay. Here, he would turn it into bakuton clay, conveniently storing the clay in the ninja pouches that he had. Yes, so now he had special storage to use, in case he ever needed some clay on the fly. Who knew what could happen, in the life of a ninja on the run. Well, technically, he wasn't on the run, but he might be someday, and he had to be careful.
He started out on the journey home, feeling the weight of the clay in his pouches. It had been most satisfying, watching things blow up. Sometimes, Kamui wondered if something was wrong with his mind, but dismissed those ideas, laughing out loud. Ha! Him, insane? He knew the difference between right and wrong. He definitely didn't plan on doing anything unpleasant like killing civilians or blowing up buildings, as cool and awesome as that might be. Right, so he would have to begin performing the process of getting ready for the chunin exams. He didn't feel too confident about that, but he felt that as he experimented with the clay, he would feel better and better about what he was going to do.
Arriving home, he did a few squats in his room for good measure, and got ready for bed. He set aside his clay, not wanting it to explode on him. He knew that sometimes, a person's chakra flared in weird ways during the sleep cycle, so in order to avoid risk , he didn't sleep with his clay. Ok, that sounded just plain weird.
As he fell asleep, he dreamed of a man with long, blonde hair. Er.... what was this? He wasn't dreaming of weird men now, was he? That was bad, so he woke himself up. Oh, it was morning already. Time to get out and try some new tricks with his clay! He grabbed his bag off the table, and headed out, leaving another note to his sleeping parents. It was a brand new day, who knew what could happen? The sunlight held infinite possibilities.
