A Medical Nin In the House?
Wed Apr 30, 2014 8:19 pm
Koaru's eye lids blinked sensitively as he came to. At first, the afternoon sun's light was overbearing, but after a few moments, Koaru's eyes adjusted. 'What? Where am I?' Koaru could not, for the life of him, remember where he was or how he got there for that matter. The tall, slender teenager struggled to sit up. It was then that he realized he was lying down...in a hospital bed. Koaru stared at his surroundings, expressing his state of confusion on his face. On his right side there was a window right by his bedside. Koaru looked through it, and saw academy students playing and the villagers going about their usual business. Koaru knew where he was by the positioning of the rest of the village buildings that he saw through the window. He was in the Konohagakure central hospital.
The boy looked to his left, and saw a wide curtain that blocked his view from the rest of the room. The floral pattern on the curtains intrigued Koaru for longer than he would like to admit. Koaru stared at his arm when he realized that he was currently feeling a strange feeling from it. Embedded in his right forearm was a tube like device pumping an unknown fluid into his arm. Koaru followed the tubed trail starting from his arm and ending at a sac filled with the same fluid. On the sac was a paper seal tag that Koaru did not recognize. He did however, recognize one of the kanji written on the tag from medical chapters in the novels he enjoyed reading. Koaru let out a sigh and closed his eyes for a minute. He felt dizzy and disoriented. 'What on earth happened last night?' The question lingered in his brain for a while before Koaru gave up all hope in finding the answer.
With his eyes still closed, Koaru heard the sound of voices beyond the curtain that restricted his vision. Koaru listened more carefully, and could make out a familiar voice. A woman. A woman whom Koaru was somewhat acquainted with was nearby. This however, was not saying much, as Koaru has made it a point to acquaint himself with every single female in the village. Koaru wanted to know just who it was on the other side of the curtain. Was she in the hospital as a patient as well? Perhaps the two of them were in the hospital as a result of the same event. If that was the case, Koaru had a pretty good idea about what that event was that put the two of them in hospital beds. Koaru slithered into a smitten state and called out beyond the curtain.
"Umm...excuse me, mademoiselle"

Midori walked into the hospital on the warm but rainy Sunday morning as she did every week. Once inside, she entered the employees only room and changed clothes out of her typical white and purple romper outfit. She rolled her hair up tightly into two twin buns on the side of her head, and then wore a medical ninja uniform. Midori, at the age of 17, was already the head nurse of Konohagakure’s central hospital. She greeted her coworkers, whom all respected her as a medical genius, even those who have practiced here in the hospital for decades. Once in uniform, the young medical ninja took to her office to collect the reports of all the new patients that were to come in. The head doctor of the facility was away at a medical seminar in Funkagakure, under the heavy security of Konoha’s anbu black ops, of course. Even with such protection, however, no one was really sure if the head doctor would be returning alive. The land of Volcanoes is rumored to be, in addition to a land of advanced medical practices, a complete hell on earth. Whichever the case was, Midori was told to be prepared to assume the role of head doctor should her predecessor be unable to return. Midori took a closer look at the clip board that laid menacingly on her desk. On it was a long list of patients that still needed attention. Included on this list, was a patient who Midori was quite familiar with, a fellow genin shinobi of the village. However, before Midori could reach his name on the list to review his condition, she heard a knock on the door. When she granted entry, she was surprised to learn that one of the patients in room 22B had entered a critical condition.
“Midori senpai. The condition of a patient has worsened in the last 24 hours. The way things are going, he may enter a state of anaphylactic shock. We have to act fast!”
Midori’s eyes tensed. She shot up out of her chair and slid into her practicing scrubs as if by routine. As she stormed through the halls to the room 22B, she recounted in her mind what she would do when she got there. Since her last practice at open heart surgery, she found that the metallic nature of the hospitals standard equipment often got in the way of the precision of her incisions. When dealing with something as serious as a patient going into shock and at risk of undergoing a complete body shut down, Midori would need her precision to be at one hundred percent. Midori decided that now would be the time to implement her new medical technique. A technique in which she could maximize the precision of her incisions so that she would not have to waste time picking up the slack after the patient was rescued. It would also dramatically reduce the patients recovery time, assuming that Midori used her Mystical Palm technique, which she had to admit, was somewhat more effective than all the others that use it in the hospital. Midori raced up the stairs to the second floor with her aids at her side, and was now on the same floor as the patient. Midori clenched her eyes and activated her clan exclusive visual technique. The veins that travelled through her head and across her temple pulsated and could be seen through the skin of her face. She used her visual prowess to get a head start on the situation in the emergency room before actually entering the room. The aids behind her simply stared in awe as Midori began listing things she would need before actually reaching the room.
“Byakugan!…..Okay, we don’t have much time. I’m going to need a pan of boiled water, a pressure respirator, the 5CC stat injector, and someone please get the fuuinjutsu specialist on call, we will need a technique to seal and maintain the patient’s blood pressure. We’re losing him!
With that, all of the aids dispersed in a blur of speed, in every direction. The speedy exits made her long, draping scrubs flicker in the wind as if in the middle of a whirlwind. Still, Midori marched on directly into the room without having to pause to observe her surroundings. The patient was to her left, and there were curtains closed to separate him from the other patients in the room. For a state of emergency, the room was surprisingly quite, other than the consistent beeping sound of the heart rate monitor. Once she was standing over the patient, she wove a string of hand seals, which she recited out loud. The other medical nin looked on, bewildered by the occurrence. Usually, Midori started off by using the surgical scalpel utensil to cut through the patients close so that she could continue and make the first incision. “Tiger. Horse. Rabbit. Rat. Dog” Once the exceptional medical ninja was finished with her hand seals, her hands swelled up with chakra. Midori was using the chakra scalpel technique. She went on to perform the surgery, making incisions with improved and almost flawless accuracy. Within a matter off 5 minutes, the patient had stabilized. It was then that all of the aids had returned with the objects they had been sent out to retrieve. They were surprised to see that the patient had already been stabilized. They thought the things they were sent to retrieve were needed to save the patient. In actuality however, the genius medical ninja had thought through this medical procedure about 20 steps ahead, and was procuring the tools she would need to make sure the patient had a speedy recovery. Midori sighed, and wiped her forehead with her forearm, careful not use her bloodied hands. She moved away from the area to allow the aids to finish the post-surgery stuff. Midori washed her hands, when she heard a voice call out to her from beyond another nearby curtain. Midori raised an eye brow, as she could see exactly who was behind the curtain thanks to her byakugan.
“And what, pray tell, are you doing here……Koaru Garinado?”

Koaru was intrigued. It seems he was correct in assuming that whoever the female was behind the curtain, was someone he was already acquainted with. Koaru smiled warmly, as if comforted by Midori’s words. He rested his eyes as he sat in his homely hospital bed. His dread locks fell nonchalantly in front of his face as he did so. He finally recognized the voice and its owner after considering his location. There was only one shinobi in the village that would be in the hospital out of her own leisure.
“So, Midori. Have you come to accept my proposal? I was thinking about a warm beach wedding in Shimagakure……”
Koaru spoke smoothly, confident that his deduction was correct. He reached out to the window on his right side and opened it just a crack. The children’s play and laughter was suddenly audible and a gentle breeze swooped inside and blew against a single drop of sweat that slowly made its way down Koaru’s face. If by the strange chance that Koaru was wrong about who it was on the other side of that curtain, it would surely mean death for the young, dark skinned, leaf genin, as he had just confessed his proposal to another woman.
With his eyes still closed, Koaru envisioned what such a scenario would look like. Koaru would kneel before a woman offering a ring of engagement. The lady’s face however, was covered with a wedding veil. Koaru was just about to ask for her hand in marriage, when Koaru hesitated before saying the woman’s name. Koaru’s worst fear came to fruition, and Koaru called her by the wrong name. Suddenly, hell’s fury burst from the woman’s being and descended on Koaru mercilessly. As Koaru desperately tried to escape from the woman’s wrath, the hell bent bride to be dragged Koaru by the ankles, flipped him onto his back and stabbed Koaru’s right forearm with a wooden stake, pinning him down.
The vivid hallucination would instantly dispel when Koaru opened his eyes in shock. He stared at his right arm and saw the needle that was pouring a steady flow of recovery fuid into his veins. Disturbed by the day dream, Koaru cautiously yanked out the needle and gripped his forearm with his other hand to suppress the bleeding that would come as a result. He let out a sigh and pulled his feet away from their position on the bed and over the edge so that his body was facing the closed curtain. He waited for Midori’s response. His arms were raised just before his face, prematurely flinching just in cases the woman behind the curtain was not Midori.

Midori sighed, partially out of relief that she had successfully performed a major surgery despite only being seventeen years old, and partially out of comfort. She took comfort in Koaru’s easy going personality, even when he was in such poor condition. In truth, Midori and Koaru knew very little about each other. Koaru could probably guess that Midori was well versed in medical ninjutsu. He could also assume that Midori knew a thing or two when it came to Taijutsu, based on her performance a few days prior in a makeshift tournament composed of the newly recruited genin and academy students in the village. On the other hand, Midori did not know much about Koaru’s fighting style, only that Koaru was quick on his feet, and that he was skilled enough to be considered a fair match against Hideyoshi, the most experienced Genin in Konoha. Midori glanced directly through the curtain between the two ninja and giggled as Koaru flinched. Midori thought Koaru was pretty strange and she wondered what could have been on his mind.
Midori looked beside her to see a clipboard on the table. She picked it up and stared through the pages with her byakugan so that she would not have to actually flip them. Each page contained information about a patient within the hospital. Eventually, Midori came across Koaru’s page. She read the file and discovered the nature of Koaru’s hospitalization.
“Don’t be stupid, Koaru. I can’t marry a wimp like you. It says here that you were taken in after people found you unconscious on top of one of the tallest trees in the forest…you’re not hurt are you, wimpy?”
Midori finally unveiled herself from behind the curtain and stared curiously into Koaru’s eyes, awaiting his answer. She offered a devious smile as the veins on her temples slowly faded from sight. She would toss the clipboard she was holding so that it would land flat on the bed beside Koaru, facing him. Perhaps the coax would get Koaru to reveal what happened leading up to his hospitalization.

The clipboard fell at Koaru's lap, Koaru looked down at it and saw his file. Koaru thought about what he was doing in the forest on top of the largest tree in the forest. Suddenly, Koaru remembered. Koaru was training with his friend in the forest to master a new technique of his. Something must have happened that made him lose consciousness. Koaru leaned backwards and concentrated harder, scratching his chin as he thought. Midori had finally revealed herself from behind the curtain, briefly distracting Koaru with her beauty. It did not take long for Koaru to snap out of it though, as the question of how he ended up in the hospital took priority. After another brief moment of thinking, Koaru remembered which technique he was practicing. Koaru was training to become a legendary wind style ninjutsu user, just like a legendary shinobi said to have originated from the Leaf village. Koaru had learned about this shinobi in the World Library. Koaru was set to surpass even the wind god, and immediately took to training.
Koaru clenched three fingers together in front of him. His index finger, his middle finger, and his thumb all looked like they had been lightly sprained. It was just now that Koaru realized that his entire arms had been wrapped in bandages. Whatever training Koaru was doing, the bandages were evidence enough that he worked hard and vigorously. Koaru molded a bit of chakra to the tips of his fingers. He could see the wisp of wind chakra forming a blade. By this time, Midori would have already deactivated her Byakugan and would not see this manifestation of wind chakra as a result. After seeing the technique he had been working on, a few flashes of memory came back to him. Koaru remembered sparring with a partner who he believed to be weak. Unfortunately for Koaru, he had underestimated his partner. Koaru got his ass handed to him and must have suffered some form of memory loss. Finally, Koaru remembered before getting knocked out, that he had promised to meet up with Kenzo immediately after his training to show how far he had come. Koaru dissipated the chakra ant his fingers after realizing that he had zoned out too long.
“ehh, oh shit! That reminds me, I’m late! He is going to kill me! Forgive me, Midori-chan, but I have to leave right now!! I'll be back, I swear!”
With that, Koaru’s eyes grew a more serious demeanor. Koaru knew that Midori, along with every medical ninja, would never allow a patient to just up and leave prematurely. Patients were forced to stay for the entire duration of their recovery. Because of this, Koaru would have to make a break for it. He condensed wind style chakra to his fingers once again. The air around him blurred as if there was an invisible object there. Koaru handled the wind construct delicately as Koaru performed a small flip in place. Koaru would land on his left hand with the rest of his body suspended in the air. This would happen at an incredible speed, one which Midori would not see coming. With the right hand, with fingers thick with wind style chakra, Koaru formed a wind blade and extended it to maximum length. ‘So this is the result of my training, huh?’ Koaru thought with a grin. Koaru slashed wind blade in Midori’s direction with remarkable speed.
Missing her long, luscious locks by an inch, Koaru’s wind blade would cut the curtain that drooped over Midori. The curtain would fall on Midori and restrain her for at least a second. In the meantime, Koaru would open the window wide enough to exit out of. Before leaving, he turned around to give Midori a mischievous smile. Then, without another word, the ninja fell back first into the open air, falling towards the ground from the twenty second floor. Koaru would then vanish from sight with the flickering of his body.
