ryusei training Empty ryusei training

Sat Aug 30, 2014 6:05 pm
Ryusei was brainstorming jutsu to complement the clan techniques he would soon be learning. He had numerous ideas but many of them involved complicated jutsu, or ones that required much more chakra than he could produce, even over a long time. Checking his list, Ryusei started looking for something easy to get under his belt, that only required the one element he had, and nothing else fancy. He had to get strong quick, he couldn’t afford to deal with any strings attached, yet. The first one that seemed usable was the Moving Earth Core jutsu. Even if it was not strong by itself, he could easily make a pit to drop enemies into, hopefully breaking a few bones, and regardless of whether the ground was moved up or down, large shadows would form, which he could take advantage of with his clan jutsus. Not that he had learned any yet, he was putting the cart before the horse so to speak. Still, he had to start somewhere, and the Moving Earth Core jutsu seemed to be an easier one to learn. Memorizing the components of the jutsu, Ryusei headed out.

Ryusei headed out to the nearby training grounds. Due to various sentiments, he decided to go to the one in which he had trained his first element, earth, at a much younger age. He would train his first elemental jutsu in the place he had gotten said element. Too bad his friend was no longer around to watch him….

Ryusei, at least partially fueled by emotion, put his hands to the ground, and pushed with his chakra into the ground. The ground shifted slightly from the disturbance, mostly from his hands hitting the ground, but otherwise did not budge. He frowned. This was not expected. He was not too surprised though, he had run into obstacles with the other jutsu he had tried to learn, and this one was simpler than others. Ryusei channeled his chakra into his hands, and slammed his hands onto the ground, this time trying to reach into the ground with his chakra, and move it. After several excruciating seconds, the ground formed a bump, in the direction he had moved his chakra, but nothing more. Well, this was a start.

Ryusei thought over his actions, and concluded that he should focus his chakra into raising the earth up, shifting the earth under it slightly. This should be easier, since before he was pushing against the ground in all directions, which was hard; he would be facing resistance from a lot of ground, in all directions. He would be better off focusing his chakra in one direction, since then he could push with all his might, against much less ground. In fact, he would only be using his chakra to push the ground he was intending to move, so things should be much easier. Ryusei directed his chakra and attempted to raise the ground a foot in front of him as hard as he could.

The resulting spray of dirt knocked him backwards, and he spent several minutes rubbing dirt from his eyes. Afterward, Ryusei thought over his training, and what went wrong. Looking at the spot he had attempted to raise, from the ground, he realized that he had been to haphazard – the ground had erupted, the only thing missing was actual lava, it seemed. Ryusei burst into laughter, he couldn’t believe that he had something still so far from the real thing. He settled down a little, and began analyzing his process and the results. If he was going to make a nice rectangular prism like the ones who really knew what they were doing, did, he would need to not only concentrate his chakra in one spot, but control the earth, the entire way, during the entire jutsu. This was hardly a flash-bang maneuver, as he liked to call that kind of thing, where a moment’s attention would get the result needed. In fact, some thought was required. It looked like pretty much all the users of this technique would move the earth in square shapes, perhaps because it was easier to imagine, and it worked better with other users.

Ryusei decided to start off small, to get his control working, before trying for larger scale attempts. First he would aim to move a tiny cube of dirt, approximately 1 centimeter in each direction. Roaring a ferocious battlecry (to his own ears, anyway), he tried again, slapping his hands to the ground, and using his chakra to try to shift the ground in front of him to make a tiny cube. His efforts partially paid off. A massive cube around 1 foot on each dimension, looked him in the eye. Ryusei groaned. While it was very nice that he had control over the shape of his earth construct, he had entirely the wrong scale. That was no good, since that kind of mistake could be the difference between life and death. At least he had a pretty accurate cube though.

Ryusei put his hands to the ground, repeating the progress, and tried focusing his chakra even further, into the cube he had made, then smaller still. Much smaller, in fact, and this time he was able to create the miniscule cube he had so desired. Delighter, he grabbed the cube and tossed it into the air, whooping for joy, the resulting scattering of dust causing his eyes to tear up.

When he was finished rubbing his eyes, Ryusei went hardcore, and began trying to perform the jutsu multiple times in succession, each time aiming for a different size. One time, for fun, he tried forming his name out of dirt he raised up, all at once. When raising dirt in various quantities became relatively easy to do, Ryusei began working on lowering patches of ground. This took a little more work, but lowering the ground straight down was relatively simple, and was learned fairly quickly. The biggest drawback Ryusei found was that the jutsu took a little while, not happening almost instantly unlike other jutsu, and beyond a certain fairly significant size, he could not control the pillar of earth he moved.

ryusei training Empty Re: ryusei training

Ryusei has happy. He jumped out of bed and scurried out the door, as soon as he woke up, intending to get started with his training once more. Yesterday he had finally learned his first elemental jutsu and boy was he excited. He was half way to the training ground when he realized he had brought none of his equipment (he may need it), and forgotten breakfast. Well, he would potentially have to head back later, so he did a u-turn and sprinted back to his dwelling. After a hurried meal and equally hurried gathering of tools, just in case, he headed back out again, attracting stares from those who had seen him dash outside the first time.

As he walked to the training grounds, he began reviewing the next jutsu he would learn: the “Hiding Like A Mole” jutsu. Why it was not called something sensible like “tunneling” or maybe “digging through the ground”, or even “underground travel”, he was not sure; it seemed that whoever started this whole jutsu business had decided that names needed to be complicated. For that reason alone, he liked jutsu like the Rasengan and Chidori – they weren’t a mouthful to mention. His thoughts wandering from his intended topic, Ryusei tripped over a tree root. Rubbing his head ruefully, he decided that he would have to become better at dealing with distractions if he was going to survive on the battlefield. He couldn’t go running into obstacles because of something so static.

Ryusei resumed his trip. While he kept his thoughts firmly focused on reviewing his soon to be jutsu, he also tried to pay more attention to his surroundings. Ryusei figured that while the jutsu was simple in concept, it required a little coordination, and a significant amount of alertness to be accomplished safely. He would need to break it up into steps, to make it easier to learn. Perhaps he would first learn how to move the ground around him, then controlling it, then… THUD! Ryusai found himself on the ground, having walked into a girl around his age, scattering the books she had been carrying all over the ground. She glowered at him, softening only slightly when he scrambled to help her pick up the books. Muttering a quick apology, he scurried off with hardly a second glance (she was kind of cute, but he didn’t need distractions at this time), and not thinking of anything but getting to the training grounds, arrived without any more notable mishaps.

Settling down in a deserted training ground, Ryusei thought over his training. He warmed up with a few laps around the small training area, the first few on his legs, the last largely a failure, on his hands, or on his back when he could not keep his balance. Occasionally, he would get glimpses of ninjas training in other clearings, giving him an idea for his training later.

All warmed up, Ryusei made a bunch of chakra, and tried putting it into the ground around him. Nothing happened until he began trying to manipulate the soil, changing it to be finer, and easier to move. Then he felt the soil around him shift slightly under his weight. Reaching down with his hands, he felt the soil easily crumble between his fingers, similar to dry sand at a beach. Clumps of dirt that he poked with his fingers settled immediately, with virtually no resistance. It was quite obvious that his first attempt had worked, now he just had to move it. Just for an experiment, he tried making the dirt like normal. He would need this since if all the dirt he dug while underground was too fine, and had no structural integrity, the tunnels he dug would collapse. While funny to watch, this could spell doom on the battlefield, since any vile liquids, fire, or… (we will skip ahead of a brief interlude full of imagined horrors). A collapsing tunnel would also not hide anyone inside it very well, which kind of defeated the original purpose. The dirt returned to its previous state with a little help from Ryusei’s chakra, meriting no further description.

Ryusei paused to consider his next move. He had the easy part down, now surely all he had to do was move the dirt right? Ryusei had a swig of water, and prepared chakra again. He changed the dirt beneath him into fine sand, and attempted to shift the sand around him, so that he could sink into the ground. He obviously had not put any thought into how much dirt he had manipulated, as he soon found himself on the bottom of a ten foot pit, 5 feet wide, with high walls of fine dirt piled up on top of the rim around the hole. Ryusei slapped his forehead, realizing his mistake. He had done a variation perhaps, of another jutsu, just with a few extra features. Fortunately, he had a way out. He used his “Moving Earth Core” jutsu, raising up most of the ground surrounded by the rim, which was not fine sand. After using what was essentially an elevator to him, to get to a foot or two past the ground’s height, he jumped over the piles of fine dirt he had created. Landing, he felt a slight twinge of conscience, and stopped (figuratively, since he had landed and technically was still) to push the displaced loose dirt back into the hole. Most of the dirt fit back in, the rest he stepped on, to compact it.

Ryusei gave it another go, in another spot, this time limiting the amount of dirt he shifted to just a bit more than would be needed to contain his body, leaving room to move his arms. This time he was successful, and he wound up in a much smaller pit. This size of hole would be usable, now he just needed to make sure to have a roof over the whole thing. While he was at it, he would have to make sure there was no sign of his using anything, or doing anything, from the surface. Otherwise someone might figure out what he did, and it would not look like he disappeared into thin air. Ryusei tried again, this time trying to move dirt back over him after initially displacing it. This took a fair bit of concentration at first, but he found he could do it faster after some practice. The first few times he moved the dirt on top too fast, either creating a tall dome, or in the worse cases flinging dirt everywhere, probably to the amusement of anyone who may or may not have been watching his efforts. Slowly though, after several dozen attempts, and a few hours reforming the ground so he would have room to try again, Ryusei was able to do it faster, without any of the funny stuff. At least, that was what he hoped.

He tried digging into the ground again, forming a small compartment. He then started trying to dig around, under, well, the ground, and when he thought he was several meters away from where he started, he dug his way back up. He hit his head on a rock, as he scrambled out of the hole. Cursing, he rubbed his head ruefully, and pushed the rock out of the clearing, to prevent any more related mishaps. Heading back into the clearing, he saw a mound that was about in the right spot to have been where he started, but it would not hurt to be sure. He clambered back into the hole, and realized that he had reformed the dirt too well, as there was no way to see where he had come from, if he only looked underground, in the hole. Groaning, he walked over to the mound. Curious to see if he had left any holes in what was presumably the starting point, he started digging by hand, as the soil was slightly loose, and after not finding any traces of a hole, he concluded that he must have done it successfully. Now to do away with the mound….

Ryusei wished that at this point he was able to use shadow clones, since he could practice this whole darn thing a lot faster, and in this particular instance, he would be able to use his clones to help him figure out whether he was leaving noticeable traces of movement, or new landform features, and so on. He sat to ponder how to get around this. Eventually, he hit upon the idea of leaving a stick stabbed into the ground, near where he started. Better yet, if he took a bunch of sticks, and put them in a circle, and started his hole in the center, he would be able to exactly pinpoint the epicenter of any disruptions to the nearby landscape, including any unfortunate flora or fauna. If he only used one stick like he first was going to do, he would potentially be unable to find his starting point, which would be unfortunate, as he would have done all that work for nothing, since the starting point could be anywhere around the stick. Using a bunch of them would allow him to pinpoint the approximate location of his start, much more effectively. Ryusei decided to stop thinking, and give it a shot. Breaking large twigs off from some nearby trees, Ryusei started measuring out distances such that the twigs would be placed the same distance apart from each other.

Walking to the center, Ryusei started digging again, quickly. After digging what he judged to be far enough, he started digging upwards again, and nearly got his eye poked out by a chunk of wood from above. Grabbing it before it could do any damage, Ryusei cautiously poked his head aboveground, but saw nobody. Nothing in fact, except a very curious, mostly complete circle of twigs stuck in the ground, which looked suspiciously occult. Looking around for his own starting point, Ryusei could not see his own, and burst out laughing. He had nearly poked his eye out because he had not dug very far, and come up on the edge of his won circle, as almost anyone else would have realized much faster than he had. Ryusei clambered fully out of the hole, and looked at where his starting point should have been, and saw a small mound, a few inches high. He shook his head, sadly. He had come quite far, but far enough. He replaced the ground from the hole he had dug, reinserted the twig in the appropriate place in the ground, and tried again from the center. This time he was more successful, and he was able to avoid the dangerous twigs that could poke his eye out, leaving no traces at all anywhere of using the jutsu, despite the speed at which he had attempted it. This was a vast improvement, he just needed to be able to figure out where he was underground, especially since he was too lazy to run across the entire clearing, having ended up on the other end.

As It turned out, the easiest part to figure out was how to sense where he was underground, and where other people were. He could see why other users generally used the magnetic fields as a reference, since the electricity in people’s nervous systems seemed to ever so slightly affect said fields, or at least that was his opinion. He wasn’t quite sure, but all he knew was that every time someone else passed overhead, over what they thought was an empty training ground, he would be able to track them fairly precisely, sometimes making them jump when he greeted them, suddenly sticking his head aboveground. Likewise, by noting the juxtaposition of various magnetic fields, at the beginning, he could figure out how far he had travelled underground, and in what direction as well. The day was largely over, by the time Ryusei finished sweating it out at the training ground. Satisfied with his progress, he headed home, underground whenever possible.
