Art Thief (D rank mission)

mission details:

Hysterio was off on his first mission. It seemed there was a thief that was stealing art, from everywhere in the village. Even the Kage’s office was not entirely safe, as there had been reports of a mysterious shadowy figure attempting to enter through the window in the middle of the night, only to be jumped by some guards. Most likely, the thief would not strike again at the Kage’s office for a while, but that did not mean everywhere else was safe as well, if anything, he, or she, was probably more likely to strike at an actual art gallery, the one in the Kage’s office being safe.


Most pursuing the thief had found the perpetrator to be fairly fast, so, some way was needed to restrain the thief that did not involve preparation for specific spots, nets and the like had failed before, consistently.


Hysterio took a look through a compendium of jutsu, curious to see if he could learn something to help him on his mission. One that caught his interest was a jutsu called Genjutsu: Shibari. He had not learned any actual genjutsu techniques yet but this would would possibly prove helpful. It seemed that the genjutsu was triggered when someone else looked at the user’s eyes. Interesting. It seemed most genjutsu worked by disrupting the targets and then sometimes enacting various other effects at the same time, often through disrupting something else in the same way as the user disrupted the target’s chakra system. This particular genjutsu seemed to keep targets physically immobile, which would prevent them from releasing themselves from the genjutsu, rather handy indeed if he wanted to land a strike or two on someone unhindered, especially since the genjutsu worked on many opponents at once if necessary.


He realized he would not learn the genjutsu fast enough to help him with his mission, so he shoved thoughts of it to the back of his mind, and went off to his destination. Once in the art gallery, he decided to literally lie in wait for the thief to arrive, as there was only one portable piece of art left anywhere, the Kage’s office being used to store all the rest. Sooner or later the thief would discover that fact and come after the one piece of bait. Hopefully he would not fall asleep as the thief might abscond with his defended work of art, right under his nose, again, that was literal – he was clinging to the rafters, and trying to not fall.

He waited a while, watching the shadows shift in relation to the moon. Suddenly, he heard a crunch on the ground outside. He glanced at the clock on the wall, its face illuminated in the glow of the moon. No sane person would be up at this hour, without a reason, and the guards did not make sounds like that. The window creaked open, and a dark shadow darted under Hysterio. Grabbing the art, the shadowy figure turned around to see the window was closed. Confused, the figure turned around and was tackled from behind, the art piece whisked from its hands and replaced.

The shadowy figure was soon beaten up and dragged off to the Kage office, and Hysterio reported back, the thief captured.
