Scholar to Shinobi (Solo)

Masato was dressed in a simple red T-shirt and shorts, sitting in his bedroom with a book in front of him.
How to use Ninjutsu for Dummies
Masato had tried to avoid a life in which he had to study the shinobi arts so that he could combat their kind. He had wanted a simpler life, where he didn’t have to worry about fighting for his life constantly, but it seemed the clans blood was strong in him. That was what his father, the clan head had said, when he told him that it was time he picke dup his studies again, and became a shinobi of Konoha so he could gain the skills needed to purge shinobi from the land. He would be crucial to that end, his father assured him of that. Masato was still so confused about everything, he didn’t know how or why he was important, just that he was.
And that he needed to learn how to use jutsu if he wanted to be able to control chakra, his father told him it was now his duty to learn the shinobi arts now. Masato did not like this new role in his life, but he would put as much effort as he had put into his job as a scholar into his new duty as a shinobi in training. Just because he didn’t like it didn’t mean he had any right to slack off.
Masato’s eyes scanned over the few jutsu that were normally taught at the academy, especially the ones needed to pass the genin test. That was his current goal, to reach the rank of Genin so that he could be considered a shinobi and then start taking missions to make money while gaining experience as a fighter. The two main ones were the transformation jutsu and the clone jutsu. The book said they were simple, but Masato had no clue how he was supposed to pull that off. Create a copy of himself? Make himself look like another person? These feats were insane, far beyond him.
But he would try. He began to start memorizing the hand seals that were used for the transformation technique. He figured he would tackle that one first seeing as it was just changing himself and not making multiple versions, so hopefully that meant it was easier. Masato practiced them for a few hours as he went about his day, cleaning his house up. Now that he had a new role within the clan he felt he might get visitors soon curious as to why his father was now telling him to become a shinobi. Masato had no answer for such visitors, but he at least didn’t want his house looking terrible when they came by.
After about two hours of cleaning and practicing seals Masato decided to try changing his chakra flow now, to perform the jutsu rather than just do the seals. Taking a deep breath, Masato mentally analyzed all the information he could remember about the jutsu, each thing he heeded to have done, his chakra flow, his concentration, the proper way to do each seal. His father had taught him how to manipulate the same amount of chakra he had. As he exhaled, he performed the 3 seals needed for the transformation jutsu. A single image popped into his mind, his father, an elder man. He felt his chakra surround his form and change him, and when he looked down he was surprised. He was in the outfit he had imagined his father in, and when he looked into a mirror he had his father’s face as well. Dispelling the jutsu, Kiritsugu couldn’t help but smile a little. Maybe he could do this after all.

Having learned the Transformation jutsu, Masato decided he should start practicing the clone jutsu as well. He would need that a swell to take the Genin exam, which was his first goal in his new duty. Masato was in decent shape for a normal human, so he was focusing on learning on how to control this chakra for now, as well as trying to increase his low reserves of it. Currently he could barely perform the techniques he was learning without exhausting himself, yet most ninja had so much chakra that such techniques were almost negligible to use. He would have to get to that point if he hoped to become a truly skilled shinobi, and perhaps later a shinobi killer if that was what his father wanted.
Masato sat cross legged on his bed with the same book in his lap, reading over the clone jutsu and how it worked. Apparently the versin he was learning was just for illusions, he wasn’t making an actual clone of himself just a visual image for people to see. Masato knew that his clan had developed an advanced version of it some time ago, that allowed the user to have their clones move freely rather than mimic the users actions. If he proved to be capable of developing the clans element perhaps he would have a chance to learn that technique, but for now he decided to focus on learning this simpler version of it.
It had as many hand seals as the transformation jutsu, which was 3. Masato was thankful that the techniques he was learning didn’t seem to have a lot of hand seals so far, memorizing the exact positions for each seal was still difficult for Masato, so only needing to remember the ones used for the techniques would be extremely helpful for the time being.
Occasionally as Masato went through out his day he would try and alter his chakra flow and do the hand seal pattern, he didn’t want to spend the entire day figuring out the jutsu and needed to go get groceries, which prompted his random sporadic training rather than over the course of a smaller piece of time but more focused.
By the time he returned home for the day, just before the sun was going to begin to set, Masato believed that he had a good idea for how the Clone jutsu worked and how he was supposed to go about performing the technique. Standing in his small living room, Masato did the 3 hand seals needed for his jutsu, performing them carefully as to make sure he didn’t mess up. He let his chakra flow as well, this time not around him but to either side, forming his chakra into light that then took on a pattern similar to his own, and when he looked to his sides he saw the back of his head as the clone looked off in the same direction. Masato hoped that the ease with which he learned these techniques showed that he was somehow a natural at the use of ninjutsu, from what he understood learning both techniques on the first try while being self-taught was not a common thing.
Still, perhaps he was only good at the easy techniques such as the transformation jutsu, and the harder ones would be impossible for him to learn. Hopefully he would learn them quickly as well though, he would need to if he wanted to make his father proud by excelling in his new duty, even if he wasn’t entirely sure what it was beyond training in the shinobi arts for now.
