Ishida was sitting in a tree trying to avoid thinking about the pain in his stomach. He hadn’t had anything to eat since yesterday afternoon. Before that last meal it had been only animals he happened to catch off guard. The problem with that was Ishida expended more energy than he gained from energy. He was in need of either some money, or a real meal that he could eat. Unlike in a village he didn’t have a steady source of income. Being a missing nin Ishida decided the most plausible thing to do was to just take some money by force. Though he wasn’t sure if he liked the idea of stealing from innocent civilians that was just how Ishida’s current reality was.
Ishida decided he would go through with his unethical plan. Now he just needed a target. No women or children. Preferably a man by himself; even though he preferred a single man Ishida had confidence he could take out a fairly large group of untrained men. After all he was a fairly capable young shinobi. Ishida moved closer to the main roads and from his perch, on a tall tree, observed his surroundings. It was dark out and the number of people walking about was less than usual. This was both good and bad. There were less potential targets but at the same time less potential witnesses. There was a women walking with two children and about 40 meters behind her was a man by himself. “Bingo,” Ishida whispered to himself. That was the man who would be making the donation to Ishida.
Hopping down from his tree Ishida crept close to the man. The man looked fairly average. About 40 years old and nothing special in his build. When the man was only 2 meters back Ishida stepped out from his hiding place. “Oi, old man I’m gonna need you to hand over all your money,” Ishida said doing his best to sound tough and intimidating. He was still a kid and he doubted the man would take him very seriously despite his rugged appearance. Accurate to Ishida’s prediction the man laughed and attempted to pass Ishida. This royally pissed him off. Ishida threw out a strong right hook and dropped the man to his knees. That would get his attention. Unfortuantly the man decided this was a good time to fight back. He began swinging sloppily. His punches went in wide arcs and Ishida dodged all of them easily. The difference in their abilities was clear despite the age gap. To show this difference Ishida kicked the man right below his knee. Smack! The old man dropped to the ground, his leg had given out after the single kick. “Listen old man, even though I left my village I’m still a trained ninja. You can’t beat me so just hand over your money.” Ishida looked around him; thankfully no one else was around. Even though Ishida struck the man twice he wasn’t looking for a brawl. He was a trained ninja and he knew this wasn’t what his training was meant for.
In all honesty Ishida wasn’t sure what being a ninja was all about. Were shinobi meant to only protect others and not worry about themselves? If that were the case than why was there still so much conflict and struggle in the world? Ishida wanted to continue his life as a wanderer and one day find out. Once he did Ishida had decided he would become a shinobi known around the world, throughout all the villages. To obtain this goal Ishida needed to survive and in his current situation he needed this man’s money in order to survive. “I don’t have time for this,” Ishida bent over and began searching the man. This being Ishida’s first time robbing someone he left himself unguarded. The man who was terrified shoved the vulnerable Ishida over and ran for his life. Ishida was momentarily stunned as his head slammed back into the dirt road. What raised him for his daze was the mans screams. “Help me!” The man wouldn’t stop yelling. Ishida jumped to his feet and began to panic. Ishida without thinking weaved the bird sign. “Wind release: Air bullets!” Ishida yelled and spat out three perfect bullets of air chakra. The jutsu he had recently learned didn’t fail him. All three bullets landed on the man’s back and killed him instantly.
Ishida stood in shock, his mouth was hanging open as he had just realized what he had done. He killed a man, an unarmed man who was running for his life. “No way,” Ishida said tears beginning to fall from his eyes. Ishida didn’t want to kill the man; it had been in the heat of the moment he did the only thing he could think of. No that wasn’t true, he hadn’t thought about it at all. It just happened. If anything that made Ishida even more afraid. He killed a man who was running with no hesitation. It was almost as if it was instinct. Ishida’s tears began flowing more and more as he approached the corpse. The man’s bag of money lay beside him and his pool of blood. Ishida opened it and was shocked at what he saw. 500 measly Ryo. The man had risked his life and Ishida had killed over such a small amount of money. Life and death had been decided by a mere few days of honest work. Ishida doubted he could get more than a day or two supply of food. Was that really the worth of a man’s life?
It was at this time Ishida had a revelation of sorts. His conclusion based on his recent experiences was money ruled the world. Money exerted complete control of people. It made Ishida sick. Life shouldn’t be decided by such meager worldly possessions. Despite that Ishida stuffed the money into his pocket. He closed the man’s eyes for him, as he felt it was the least he could do. With that he disappeared into the darkness of the night. His experiences on this night would stay with him for a long time, as it completely changed his outlook on life. Ishida was no longer a kid ignorant to the way of the world.
