The training of the clone jutsu

Class just ended and the lecture over the clone jutsu provided little help. J thinks that he will stay after for awhile and train in the dojo. After all the genin exams are coming up fast and J for sure does not want to be the odd one out. J heads up to his locker and grabbed his belongings then stopped by the class on the way out to the dojo to grab the student textbook. J reaches the dojo leaving behind his backpack and sandals at the door he opens the book and sits cross legged reading how to prepare for the jutsu. J clasps his hands focusing on his chakra as told from the lecture in class. J then begins to image himself like the textbook says and make the hand signs really slow going over them several times. Ram, Snake, Tiger...Ram, Snake, Tiger each time he repeats this faster than the last and before as the last time he practiced he decided to time it. “2 seconds” J says to himself as no one else is in the room. Assuming that 2 seconds would do he focused his chakra breathing calmly as not wanting to ripple the fragile water balance attained at this point of focus. J takes one last breath and stands. He quickly goes through the hand signs making Ram, Snake, and tiger then yelling clone jutsu and poof...nothing. “What could I have possibly done wrong?” J said aloud looking back at the book he flips through skimming. Concentrate...image yourself...expand… “Wait what?” J looks back to where it said expand and read it slowly. ‘Expand your chakra quickly as the last hand sign is finished and the clone will appear otherwise you will receive nothing more than smoke and dust’ J thinks for a moment then stands back up. He focuses and brings his breathing to a calm level and quickly goes through the three hand signs Ram, Snake, Tiger then quickly as he makes the tiger sign expands his chakra and imagined himself. A loud poof and he turns to see a clone of himself staring straight back. “Yes!! I did it” he says excited. “Alright several more times and ill head home”. J releases the clone jutsu and clasps his hands focusing his chakra. This time he finds it harder as he cannot focus from the excitement. Several minutes pass by as he finally slows his breath and can start balancing his chakra. He feels the heat of his physical energy and cool of his spiritual energy mix. Ram, Snake, Tiger he expands his chakra and as he imagines himself *poof* he looks and once again there is another clone. After several repeats of going through the clone jutsu J wonders if he can push it further. “So I can make one clone but according to this book a student my level should be able to make two…” J thinks that if he imagined two of him then two clones will appear. So J focused his chakra still and then went through the hand signs Ram, Snake, Tiger and expanded his chakra but as a precaution he expanded even further than before and imagined himself appearing twice before him and *poof* two clones did appear before him however one was severely deformed. Hmm J thought for a moment then decided that if he was to expand at his max he would be able to create two perfect clones. He went through the hand signs for a final time and extended his chakra as far as he could and a large poof of smoke appeared in front of him and as the smoke cleared J could see two perfect clones in front of him. Exhausted and satisfied with the final product of his training J released the clone jutsu, gathered his items into his backpack and went home.
