Training with Artemis[P]

The young Chuunin was once again headed toward the training grounds for some training. After he had been promoted he started delving into the arts of space-time, but he still kept his focus on genjutsu. It was his go to in any situation. He had been expanding upon his usage of genjutsu and started becoming proficient in the use of sound to cast his genjutsu. One of his favorite techniques, the Genjutsu: Shibari technique, had caught his attention so much that he had devised a way to improve upon it using sound as a catalyst. A new technique that he intended on learning today. That was the purpose of him coming out to the training fields to find a partner to practice with. He could practice this new technique on his own, but it was more efficient for him to do so on another person. It hadn't taken the Uchiha long to shower and put on his Chuunin gear, grabbing a quick bite to eat before heading out the door. It was around noon by the time he arrived at his destination. The sun was high in the sky and there were already quite a few shinobi doing their own training. Some seemed to be sparring while others were practicing their taijutsu and still some were off in distant corners working on new ninjutsu techniques. The boy looked around to see if there was anyone he might consider asking to train with him.

It had been a weird day for Artemis. The things that she had seen was beyond what anyone could consider normal. Thought it was best if the details were left out for the purpose of keeping the innocence of those reading along. After the long escapade that she had throughout the day, and morning, the girl had decided to call it a day for her Anbu duties and due regular villager duties. She got home sometime around noon absolutely exhausted but she didn’t want to waste the day curled up in a ball sleeping. It was too beautiful a day to do that! Quickly changing out of her nab gear, she threw on a pair of white shorts and a black fitted t-shirt. The girl headed out of her apartment rather quick, bringing very little along minus her old headband that she wore loosely around her neck and the sword attached to her lower back that rested within it’s sheath.

The girl walked along the village, enjoying the warm weather in her summer clothing. She could feel the sun’s rays being soaked by her pale skin. Maybe she’d get a nice little tan if she stayed out long enough. Before she realized it, she had made her way towards the training field. She hadn’t meant to, but she was so used to always traveling here in order to improve on herself. Now that she was here, she supposed she could due what she did best, help the youth of Konoha become stronger. After all, she did dedicate her life to protecting her home.

It wasn’t long before there was one boy in particular that grabbed Artemis’ attention. It was the boy who she had briefly helped work on his space time ninjutsu. She approached him and waved once he would have seen her coming. “Why hello there Jace. How is the Space-Time ninjutsu coming along?” She asked, stopping once she was about a meter away. Since they had originally met, the girl had developed some interest in the boy even going as far to look up his file. His record was quite impressive. He became chunin by challenging the Hokage along with a girl who went by Queen. He was definitely one to look out for in the coming years. Though there was something about him that interested Artemis more than anything else and that wash is proficiency in Genjutsu. Now that was never something that Artemis was great in, but maybe the boy could do her a solid after she had taught him Space-Time

It wasn't long before the boy spotted a familiar face among the dense crowd of shinobi. It was the woman called Artemis who had taught him the basics of space-time ninjutsu. If it weren't for her Jace probably wouldn't have become as proficient as he had as quickly. Already he had learned a very useful technique that his friend Ita had taught him. He felt as if he could still improve on that of course, but that was something for another time. Today he wanted to focus on mastering this genjutsu technique he had devised. Artemis had approached the boy, waving at him as she did so, and stopped one meter in front of him. She had asked him how the space-time training was coming. Certainly it could be better, but he wasn't going to complain about that right now. Still, she was a highly skilled ninja in the village and probably a good candidate for him to practice with. "Hey Artemis. It's going well. I actually came here today to practice a new Genjutsu technique I've been developing. Do you have some time to help me train?" The boy used a friendly tone with the girl, punctuating his question with that charming smile of his he had become accustom to sharing these days. It was part of his job as a Chuunin to work with the other villagers from time to time so he needed to learn how to become more personable quickly enough. He waited patiently to hear the girl's response.

The girl smiled with delight as the boy asked her if the two could train. Sure, she was exhausted, and sure, the last thing she wanted to do was train, but she always puts what others needed in front of what she wanted/ needed so she was more than happy to comply. “Of course!” She responded. At the end of the day, it seemed like he wanted to practice his Genjutsu too. This meant that Artemis would slightly benefit as well. While she was absolutely terrified of the arts of illusion, she wanted to better understand it, and she was hoping the young Chunin boy could help her do just that. “Just tell me what you need me to do.” Artemis replied, crossing her arms around her chest. Considering this was Genjutsu, surely attacking the boy wouldn’t necessarily help him to accomplish what it was he needed. Waiting for a response, she would just sit there and wait for the orders needed. Mentally, she prepared herself for what came next.

Jace was glad to hear the girl agree to help him. She seemed eager enough to help the boy, simply asking him what it was she needed to do. His smile widened slightly at her response to his request. Without more than a moment's hesitation Jace began to explain to the girl what he needed her to do."Alright. So I'll be practicing a new genjutsu technique I've been developing. All I need you to do is to let me know if it's affecting you and how. The basis of this technique, like the genjutsu: binding technique, is to paralyze a target, so if you get to a point where you can no longer move your arms to perform the genjutsu release let me know and I'll release you from it. I haven't had a chance to practice this on anyone yet so please bear with me. Alright I'm about to begin." After explaining to the girl exactly what he needed her to do, he closed his eyes so that he could focus himself. He took a deep breath as was usual for him when practicing a new technique. He had derived this one from the binding genjutsu that required eye contact in order to use. This one had the same concept except for the fact it was triggered by sound. He had only begun experimenting with using sound to cast genjutsu recently and hadn't had as much experience with it as he did with casting genjutsu with his eyes, especially with his sharingan.

After only a few seconds the boy opened his eyes and focused on Artemis in front of him. He had chosen a specific melody to use in tandem with this technique. It was a happy song he had heard in the village a long time ago. It was during a happy outing with his family that he had first heard it. Now it was going to be used to help him in battle and maybe save his life one day. Normally the genjutsu would require the user to expand their chakra through the focal point of the genjutsu in order to trigger it. For the genjutsu: binding technique or to use genjutsu via his sharingan he always had to do this through his eyes. This time, he had to focus on infusin his chakra into the sound he was making, which would be whistling the melody in this case. He began to whistle the melody from the beginning, focusing his chakra into the vibrations in the air that would be the sound. He had to make sure that he channeled his chakra through the whistle into the ear drums of his target. After a few moments he stopped the whistle. He had seen no real change in the girl in front of him and he wasn't sure if he had quite gotten it right. "Alright. Do you feel any differently?" he asked her.

There was a moment where it looked like Artemis was thinking before she spoke. She had clearly been able to move since she uncrossed her arms and looked at her hands in front of her face. When she did speak, she told Jace that her fingers felt numb and it was difficult for her to move them. Other than that she seemed to be perfectly fine. She performed the genjutsu release on her self, albeit a bit clumsily due to the loss of feeling in her fingers. It was obvious he had the right idea, but he had not done something right. Perhaps he needed to focus more on how he channeled his chakra, or maybe he needed to start infusing his chakra earlier than he had. He decided he would try both things on his next attempt. "Alright. Get ready, I'm going to try it again." he said to the girl.

Once more he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. This time he took a little longer to focus himself than he had before. After a short time he opened his eyes and began to whistle the same melody he had moments earlier. This time he did not hesitate to begin infusing his chakra into the song. He let it flow through the air over the sound and right into the ears of the girl before him. He let the song go a bit longer this time as he continued to focus his chakra into his training partner. After maybe a minute he let the tune fade from his lips so he could check on his progress. "So how about this time?" he asked Artemis, eager to find out if he had improved at all.

Artemis stood patiently as the boy prepared his tech. She completely impressed that the young boy had made a tech all on his own that derived from another commonly known Genjutsu. It was becoming quite apparent that the boy showed not only skill, but proficiency with his own chakra system due to how difficult it was to cast regular Genjutsu in the first place. She gave the boy a quick nod to signal that she was ready and waited for the effect to take place. Luckily, it didn’t sound like it would be a painful genjutsu where she suffering all sorts of illusionary harm.

As she waited, the boy seemed to begin to hum a a delightful tune that sounded like music to her ears. If for whatever reason being a ninja didn’t work for the boy, he could probably make a pretty penny singing to bar patrons. While listening to the delightful tune, the girl began to realize that the tips of her fingers were feeling slightly numb, as well as a tingling sensation going across her whole body like when a part of your body starts to fall asleep. As the hum came to a silent and the boy opened his eyes, the girl assumed that the Genjutsu was over. Still being able to move but not properly feeling her fingers, she made her way to forming the hand sign to release the genjutsu, gaining full control of her body

The boy went to try again, and let the tune go once more. This time, he sang it for much longer yet there was little difference in effect. The effects of the genjutsu creeped up o the girl slowly, not affecting her at once. thirty seconds into the genjutsu, the numbing began to take place but the girl was successful in casting the Genjutsu release. “Still no good.” She replied. “The effect of the Genjutsu isn’t happening fast enough. As it is, you are leaving time for you’re enemy to realize what is happening and get out of the illusion before it has taken it’s full effect.” The girl shrugged her shoulders as she thought of a solution. “This is going to be tougher than learning more common Genjutsu. You really have to focus on controlling your chakra, and making sure there is no margin for error.” The girl recommended. Sure, she knew littler about Genjutsu, but when it came to learning techs that a ninja created themselves, it’s all the same. Chakra control is key.

The boy listened to Artemis' response to his query as to how well the genjutsu had worked. She told the Chuunin that the effect was not happening fast enough. She spoke about how he was leaving too much time for his target to realize he was casting a genjutsu and release it before it could take place. Then she went on to tell Jace more things he already knew. She said that it would be tougher than learning common genjutsu since this was a technique he had devised himself. She said he needed to focus more on chakra control so there is no margin for error. Jace had already realized these things and his intuitive brain had been working through this issue, coming up with various solutions as Artemis spoke. She sounded like she knew very little about the art of using genjutsu, yet what she was saying still made plenty of sense to the boy. "I see. I'll have to try something." he said as he prepared himself to attempt the genjutsu one more time. 

He took a step back and closed his eyes, centering himself as he usually did. He took a few deep breaths as he let his thoughts run past his closed eyelids. It was like a flood of images rushing through his mind. He could visualize the chakra in the sounds he was going to be making, traveling through the air and into the ear of his targets. He had to be sure to infuse his chakra before he even began to whistle the tune that would signify the start of the genjutsu. After what was probably a few minutes of pure silence with Jace standing there with his eyes closed and breathing deeply, he finally opened his eyes and steadied himself to try the genjutsu once more. "Ok here goes nothing." he said to the girl who was helping him. He began to whistle the melody he had chosen to be the trigger for this genjutsu. This time he could immediately feel and see the chakra effecting the girl's body. He was sure that this time it was going to have a much greater effect than it had the past couple times he had attempted it. He let the tune fade from his lips and watched a moment before speaking. "How about now? Can you move?" he asked Artemis anxiously. He would await patiently for the girl's answer. By the time she had finished speaking and doing whatever it was she was going to do and say this time, he had remembered that he had an important engagement he needed to take care of. "I'm sorry but I just remembered I have something important to do. Thank you again for your help. I hope I'll see you around again soon." and with those final words the boy left the training grounds, heading off in another direction entirely.

Artemis awaited for the boy to try and attempt the technique. His eyes were closed as he seemed to truly focus on forming his chakra to cast him into his spell. Unexpectedly, the boy began to sing a lovely tune. It was this that caused her to fall victim into his illusion. “Um no.” She replied with a nervous laugh. She waited for the boy to dispel the technique. It was shortly after that he announced that he had something that he had to do. Simply nodding, she watched as the boy headed off.
