Earning the Wolves' Loyalty
Sat Jan 07, 2017 10:27 am
Today was the day Nano would go exploring deeper into the forest of the Tachibana Wildlife Reserve. He had always lived nearby but had never ventured too deep into the forest for some unknown reason. Whether it was the spooky animal noises or his laziness, he was going to explore the forest today if it was the last thing he did. Quickly getting dressed into his usual getup of a white shirt, brown jacket and black pants as well as the plain shinobi sandals. Once dressed, Nano set off on his trek through the unknown forest of the Tachibana Wildlife Reserve.
Stomping over leaves and twigs, Nano barely made it 300 meters before he heard something strange. A loud howl coming from the distance. Deciding to follow the noise, he ran at about 10 speed towards the sound. After another 5 minutes of going through the forest towards the mysterious howl, Nano ended up infront of a strangely perfect circle lake. The water was crystal clear and Nano could see an exact replica of himself in the water. Deciding he had lost whatever had made the noise, he sat down and tried listening out for another howl.
Boredom overcoming his quest to find the strange howl, Nano looked for something to do. Seeing a fairly tall tree, Nano used the Surface Walking technique to climb up the tree without the use of hands. Once atop the tree Nano spotted something down below on the edge of the clearing. He couldn't quite make it out but it was a dark grey with spots of silver on it. Nano thought about every animal he had ever stored in his mental computer but came up with nothing. He had never heard of a creature like this. That, or he wasn't listening in class when he was an academy student. Knowing he didn't miss much during his academy days, Nano was sure this was a rare creature that isn't taught about.
Determined to figure out what the creature really was, Nano hopped from tree to tree towards the unknown fricking objective thing aka UFO thing. Once he was within five meters of the UFO thing it began to run in the opposite direction, shouting out in what sounded suspiciously like the words "There's a human!" but Nano was sure there was no such thing as a talking animal, even if it was a UFO thing. He mentally slapped himself for imagining the animal speaking in his language. Hopefully he wasn't going mad.
Madness aside, the unknown fricking objective thing was getting away and Nano needed to follow it's trail. He could still hear it panting in the distance but only barely. Realising the creature was faster than him and was gaining a lead, Nano went through the two handseals, rat and boar, he channeled chakra to his brain and differed his perception of time. Suddenly bursting forward at a speed of 20, double his regular speed, Nano quickly began catching up to the fairly fast being.
Overtaking the creature, Nano looked back and finally identified what sort of creature it was. A wolf! It was unusually big, about 2 meters long and 1 meter tall and had dark grey fur with a silver crescent moon typed shape on it's chest. The teeth of the wolf looked as if they could rip out his wind pipe with the tiniest bite and it had claws that seemed sharp enough to cut through trees as if they were a hot knife on butter. Once the wolf noticed it had been overtaken, it stopped and stared at him for a moment. Just as Nano was about to inch closer towards the wolf, something shocking happened.
"I am Yin of the Wolf clan of Hoshigakure forest. I am the son of the chief and I demand you stop following me."
the wolf spoke in a deep, gravely voice. This confused Nano to no limit. Was he going insane? This was a wolf, but it just spoke in what was most definitely a human language. Slowly Nano began to come to a conclusion. The only known animals with the ability to talk were summons so this wolf clan must be a summoning clan. Nano had been taught about summons in the academy but it had slipped his mind for a while. He knew how powerful some summons were and decided he would try his best to earn the loyalty of this clan so that he could summon them.
"My name is Nano Gōka and I am a shinobi of Hoshigakure no Sato. I request for you to lead me to your clan's leader." Nano stated as formally as he could which wasn't too easy for him. Equally formal, the wolf replied "We do not usually bring outsiders into our camp but in this case I believe I must, seeing as you will follow me either way. This way I can escort you without you starting any trouble. Come then if you would like to see the home of my clan." The wolf, now known as Yin began to head in the same direction he was originally going, this time at a more steady pace of 5 speed.
After 5 minutes of walking Nano decided to start up conversation. "So... how long has your clan been here in Hoshigakure? I've heard most summoning races are hundreds of years old, is that the case for your clan?" Yin replied "We are rather new to Hoshigakure, we used to be a wandering tribe but when we discovered this forest we couldn't bear to leave, so we decided to stay. The clan itself is like you said, hundreds of years old. So you said you are a shinobi, would you mind if I asked you a bit about being one?"
"I don't mind answering a couple questions, it'll give me something to think about." Nano answered. "Ok, how long have you been a ninja and what rank are you? Have you done any missions in your time as a shinobi?"
"I have been training to be a shinobi for approximately two weeks and at the moment I am but a Genin. Unfortunately I haven't been able to complete any missions so far but I hope to do one in the near future"
Right as Nano finished his sentence they entered a large clearing filled with many other wolves, ranging in size. The biggest was a whopping 30 meters tall. How that was even possible, Nano had no clue but all he knew was that he needed this summoning contract.
"If my guess is correct and you wish to become our summoner, I shall escort you to our Chief, Yang, who is also my father." Nano nodded to Yin and followed the wolf towards what looked like a giant cave. This must have been their den. The roof was roughly 50 meters high and the cave seemed to go on forever. After 10 minutes of walking in a comfortable silence, they turned a corner and came face-to-face with the largest creature he had ever seen.
The wolf, if you could call it a wolf, was about 40 meters tall and 75 meters long and was lying down on the ground, staring towards the pair, waiting for them to speak. "Father, I have brought a human from the forest to our home in hopes of him becoming our first summoner. I can tell he has good ideals and he is perfect for the position." Yin explained to his father, the enormous chief of the wolf clan. "Now why would I allow for us to be summoned after so many years of never having a summoner. What is so special about him?"
"My name is Nano Gōka and the reason you should allow me to sign your summon contract is that I am but a single shinobi fighting for a cause much bigger than myself. World peace. With the help of your clan, I can better protect my village and achieve my goal. That Yang, is the reason I should be allowed to sign the wolf summoning contract" Nano said with as much confidence as he could muster whilst standing infront of a being who could crush him with little to no effort.
Nano prayed to Kami for the chief to let him sign the wolf summoning contract. Everything he had told the chief had been completely true and if he was successful in this adventure, he would never use the wolves for his own desire, only to help others over himself. After thinking for a few moments, the chief spoke, "Nano Gōka, shinobi of Hoshigakure, I bestow upon you the summoning contract of the wolf clan of Hoshigakure forest. You are now our first ever summoner and I expect you to respect and assist our people."
Suddenly there was a poof of smoke and a wolf roughly the same size as Yin appeared with a large scroll strapped to it's back. "To become our summoner you must write your name in blood on this contract. Whenever you wish to summon one of us, you must give a blood tribute and do the 5 handseals boar, dog, bird, monkey and ram. As you get stronger you can lessen the amount of handseals to just the seal of confrontation but I'm sure that won't be happening too soon." The wolf which he did not yet know the name of said.
Said wolf then handed him the large scroll on his back while pointing out where to sign his name. After signing his name, Nano felt a connection to all the wolves around him. It was a weird feeling to say the least but a good weird. The wolf took back the scroll before disappearing in another poof of smoke. Deciding to test out the summoning technique the unnamed wolf had explained to him. Biting his thumb just enough to draw blood, Nano went through the handseals boar, dog, bird, monkey, skipping the fifth seal as he knew he was strong enough to perform the technique without it, he then touched the ground and summoned the wolf with the scroll again.
The wolf looked at him in annoyance before asking "What do you want?" Nano's answer was frustratingly unnecessary to the wolf. "You didn't tell me your name." The wolf quickly responded "Fukoto, the name's Fukoto, don't forget it!" The newly named wolf then disappeared once again in a puff of smoke. Nano then bowed to Chief Yang as a sign of respect before going through the long walk back to the mouth of the cave.
Once he had arrived at the exit, Nano began on the long trek home. On the way out of the large clearing, he stepped past many wolves whispering to each other about him being their first summoner. Apparently this was an extremely rare thing, having never had a summoner before. Just as he was about to exit the clearing Nano waved and yelled over his shoulder "The name's Nano Gōka, don't forget it! I am your new summoner and I hope to become friends with all of you! Bye!"
Not looking back to see if he had gotten a response from any of the wolves, Nano continued on his walk back home. He walked at a steady pace of 5 speed, deciding to take his time and enjoy the nature around him. He had gained a summoning contract and he planned to go through with what he had told the wolves. He really did want to get to know each and every one of them. With that thought, Nano arrived back at his campsite and lit a fire with a couple of dry sticks.
After cooking some cheese toasted sandwiches over the fire, Nano changed into his pyjamas and lied down on his 'bed' aka pile of cloth. Tomorrow he would train with one of his newest summons and he needed a good nights rest. As soon as his head hit the pillow, Nano was out cold.
