Sei's Genin Exam

Sei scanned the room intently, watching as his fellow classmates chatted about their plans after achieving their Genin rank. It was practically a given to them. Sei would like to think he was different. Sure, he was confident in his abilities to pass this test but unlike the rest of the class who spent their days socialising and worry about crushes Sei had spent every available moment training. This was just a matter of formality to him.


"Overconfidence."

He muttered to himself. Even if this test was considered easy by all that didn't excuse him from letting his guard down. it was still an examination of his skills and if nothing else he could observe how strong the other members of his class were to gauge his strength. So, he sat there in silence, quietly and patiently waiting for the examiner. Chunin or above if he remembered correctly. Maybe he'd get a glimpse into how the real shinobi conduct themselves in a formal environment. In the middle of his musings the door to the classroom opened, the Yuki staying calm where the rest of the class froze, fearing they'd see one of the menacing protectors of the village.

Upon receiving her task, Ayumi quietly exited the teacher's room. Looking around for a moment, the young girl strolled down the hallway, her long black hair billowing as the soft breeze enter through the window. Having decided to visit the academy, the girl was tasked with a job as a proctor for the genin examinations running on that day. To be honest, she was slightly late, but hey, better late than never, amirite?

As she entered the classroom, the kunoichi scanned the faces of the students as she head over to the table that perched right in the middle of the room. Setting her clipboard down, she stared into space for a couple of seconds. As per usual, it was loud, filled with eager voices of those who could not wait to start their ninja career. In between the excited faces, she was able to detect a few nervous ones. Loudly clearing her throat, she waited until the class settled down before uttering a name, "Sei Yuki."

Signalling the male to come forward, the kunoichi continued, "Perform the two primary jutsu you've learned and demonstrate a different use for each of these jutsu. Take your time."

[Clone and Transformation jutsu, 800 words]

Sei quickly rose up from his seat, glad that the Jounin had arrived to settle the class down. He paced up to the front of class, glad he could finally display the fruits of his labour.

"Clone Technique:"

Once the Yuki had the attention of his peers he closed his eyes, allowing his chest to rise and fall before his hands came together. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Fast and precise, now muscle memory to the boy as he fuelled chakra into the technique. With a burst of smoke, two exact replicas of Sei Yuki had appeared at either side of him. Neither were under or over fueled with chakra, remaining still and quiet just as their summoner was. To demonstrate the fact that they were in fact clones they took a few paces back and forth. Sei left the clones there for a minute, demonstrating increased chakra control via maintaining them before continuing.

"Unique Use:"

He said robotically before the clone to the boy's left stepped in front of him. The clone then proceeded to feint being disoriented, arms up in defence and stumbling. Sei mimicked this movement, to the point where anyone directly in front of the clone wouldn't see him behind it. The body language itself was practised and convincing. At least to the other students.

The clone suddenly stumbled forward, offering a perfect target to figurative opponents. It was then that the original Sei broke his acting. As the clone stepped forward, so did he but this time his fist burst through the clone's chest, dispelling the jutsu and delivering a strong uppercut to his imaginary foe.

"Primary use for this use of the clone technique is in the heat of battle after some sort of explosion or obscuring attack. Otherwise anyone paying enough attention would spot me mimicking my clone."

With his explanation complete, Sei dismissed the spare clone with a nod in it's direction. If he was honest his unique use wasn't as perfected as he'd have liked but it'd be a small surprise to pull when he had a particularly aggressive opponent. Other than that case he doubted he'd be able to pull it off without being caught.

With that done Sei let out a small sigh. 'Halfway' he noted in his mind. He was more nervous about this exam than he thought. Returning to his original position he faced the class once more, mind focused solely upon his task now.

"Transformation Jutsu:"

Dog. Boar. Ram. The hand signs weren't as well remembered as the Clone Technique's but were still performed adequately. He mentally scolded himself for not studying harder on this jutsu. A Yuki couldn't falter. Especially alone. Chakra poured into the jutsu, the energy flowing through his veins. He took a second to check the room for a subject. 

With a nod a coat of smoke obscured his figure until finally it revealed the sight of one of Sei's classmates: Julius. A pair of reading glasses now rested on his nose, his face neutral as he let his proctor inspect the illusion. He'd mimicked the kid two rows from the back perfectly. The same shade of chestnut hair as the now amazed boy, the same white, flowing coat and even the boy's favourite swords were in the illusion's hands, held backhand much like the fighting style Julius seemed to favor. The disguised Julius couldn't help but smile at his legitimate counterpart's expression.

Once he was sure the proctor had gotten her assessment the illusion Julius disappeared, replaced once more with Sei. 

"Unique Use:"

Dog, Boar, Ram. Once more he fuelled his jutsu with chakra. One puff of smoke later and a Sunagakure ninja appear, a turban wrapped around their head, covering their right eye. A headband marked with the Sand Village's logo was strapped onto the shinobi. Sei had also made an effort to change his face's bone structure in the illusion, making a more passable attempt at an adult than most. The under suit was a dark gray, bandages holding the otherwise loose bottom half of the suit down by his ankles. On the dull brown body armour were two thin pauldrons on either of his shoulders, pockets for ninja tools on either side of the chest piece.


"A self explanatory disguise of the sand ninja. Enough to pass as a sand shinobi to civilians but not likely to fool legitimate sand shinobi due to it's relative poor quality in comparison to high level Genjutsu."

With his secondary explanation complete a puff of smoke revealed the auburn haired Yuki once more. He let out a small sigh, glad his minor stage fright hadn't compromised his exam. With his demonstration completed he stood at an impromptu at ease stance, hands meeting behind his back and back straight as he awaited his proctor's decision, the tension weighing on the boy.

Staring blankly as the boy performed as told, the kunoichi presented him with a headband and signalled him to come forward, "Good job. Here's your headband. Good luck and fare thee well." She ended her their encounter with a small smile before proceeding with the next examinee.

Sei slowly took the headband in his hand, testing the weight of it with a wide smile on his face. Success. His training had paid off. With a visible grin the boy bowed to the proctor before turning towards the door, exiting the room as the first Genin graduate of his class.
