Hiei & Sento; Clone/Transformation Jutsu

Hiei woke up early, as he usually did, and began his morning routine. He spent the first bit of the morning on his rigorous workout regime. Once he finished exercising he hopped in the shower to wash off the sweat and proceeded to get dressed after he was finished in there. He then went to the kitchen to eat his breakfast, Sento was still sleeping even after Hiei’s workout regimen. Hiei realized that he wouldn't see Sento for the rest of the day if didn't wake up soon, since the two of them are in different classes. He finished his breakfast with a lot of time to spare, and left the house before Sento had even left his room. He casually walked in the direction of the Academy and thought about the plan for the day. The instructor had previously told them that they were going to start to learn their first jutsu today, and Hiei was determined to learn it by the start of tomorrow’s class. Hiei figured that they'd be learning an E-rank jutsu, likely the transformation jutsu or the clone jutsu. He arrived at the school long before it began, and went to his classroom to read while he waited for the school day to begin. He hoped that Sento wouldn't be too late, but told himself that it was Sento’s own fault. He pushed the thoughts aside and went back to his novel as he waited.

To the random bystander it would appear as if Sento was running for his life as he frantically made his way through the hallways of the konoha ninja academy, but in all reality he was just very late. “Room 102, Room 103, Room 104” he read the rooms aloud as he ran through the hallway before his eyes set on a plaque that read 105, frantically he would barge through the door, before realizing that he probably should have entered as quietly as possible, he was five minutes late on his first day after all. “Sorry” he would say to the instructor before turning to look at the rest of the class and spotting his younger brother. Hiei was a bit of an early morning person and apparently the brat hadn’t thought to wake up his older brother before leaving. “I’ll get him back for that later” he thought to himself before walking up to the desk beside him and taking a seat. The word jerk would ever so quietly leave his mouth as he did so.

Hiei was a bit shocked to see that his older brother Sento had transferred to his class, but he was too busy shaking his head at the scene Sento made to think too much of it. Hiei stopped paying any attention to his brother and redirected his attention to their instructor. The instructor’s name was Kenja, but he told his students to refer to him as Ken-sensei. Ken was explaining the basics of ninjutsu in preparation for the following lesson, where the students would learn their first jutsu. Ken-Sensei explained that chakra was the basis for ninjutsu, and that you have to mold and control your chakra into handsigns in order to perform a technique. Hiei was already well aware of this, he just needed to learn HOW to do it. Ken-Sensei then addressed the class after his lecture “Students, I'd like to teach you a new technique now that you know all the basics of ninjutsu.” Ken-sensei then proceeded to weave the signs “Ram”, “Snake”, and “Tiger”. When he finished there was a puff of smoke that quickly dissipated, revealing a clone. Ken-Sensei began speaking again “This is the clone technique, I'd like each of you to pair up and try it out.” Hiei didn't have any friends in the class, so he decided that he wanted to pair up with his brother Sento. He shot Sento a look and called out to him “Hey, Sento! We’re pairing up.”

Sento took offense to his brother refusing to pay attention to him but also showed a little bit of pride when he realized how intently he was focusing on the classroom in front of him. “I’ll be damned if I let my little brother show me up” He thought to himself as he looked forwards and listened to the man. His name became apparent and Sento associated his name to his face. “Kenja” he mouthed, he tended to forget names to easily and made a habit of mouthing them after hearing them to assist him in remembering. Feeling as he got it down he tuned back into the class where the teacher was ranting about chakra and hand signs, he of course already knew this, when his father was still alive he had been an acceptable shinobi, and shinobi children often knew how ninjutsu worked. In fact he had seen the technique his sensei had just used in use, his father had known it well, and often used it to trick the kids.

Sento laughed when his brother called his name and told him that they would be partners, it wasn’t even a question apparently, “Alright alright” He would say motioning for his brother to come over.

Sento motioned for him to come over, so Hiei left his spot in the back and sighed as he walked to his brother. His brother was significantly older than him and most of the class, so he figured that he and Sento would be able to learn the technique quickly, well, quickly in relation to the rest of the class. Hiei was excited to get on the task of learning this Clone Technique, but made sure not to convey it on his face. Once he made it to his brother’s table, Hiei immediately started forming hand seals and spoke to his brother as he did so. “I can't believe that Ken-Sensei felt the need to tell us what chakra is and how hand seals work, everybody knows that.” Hiei focused his chakra into the seals he was performing—Ram, Snake, and Tiger— as he spoke, and once he was done speaking he was going to attempt the jutsu for real. After he performed the three signs there was a large puff of smoke, which, when dissipated, revealed a sickly looking cripple that loosely resembled Hiei. Hiei sighed and recalled the utterly pathetic clone, and started preparing himself for his elder brother’s inevitable ridicule.

Sento laughed at hiei’s pathetic excuse for a clone and pointed at it “What” he would start his sentence but break out in laughter again. “What is that” he’d say barely managing to get the words out. While making fun of his brother Sento was happy to know that he already knew the technique, although he never told his father he would often practice E rank techniques in his room from a textbook he had bought. If his father had known of course he would have been in a world of trouble, the man had never wanted him to become a shinobi and training to be one was obviously strictly forbidden. 

Sento then formed the handseals he already had memorized and made a flawless clone of himself, it was like looking in a mirror. “That’s how you do the clone jutsu hiei” He’d say rubbing it in, in the process.

Hiei looked upon his brother’s clone and felt a twitch of anger flicker upon his face. The clone that Sento created was perfect, especially when compared to the failure that was Hiei’s, and Sento’s douchebag comments didn't help Hiei get over his hurt pride. Hiei quickly got back to performing the signs, fueled by his determination to not be outdone by his brother. He performed the Rat, Snake, and Tiger signs several times before finally concentrating it into the clone jutsu. He put all his focus into this attempt, and it resulted in yet another puff of smoke. Hiei watched in anticipation as the smoke slowly dissipated, he prayed that it would be a clone on par with his brother’s. The cloud of smoke disappeared to reveal a completely perfect clone. There wasn't a single strand of hair out of place. Hiei gave a small smile and looked at his brother “I think I've got this down. It took me about 4 years less than it took you, Sento.” 
As soon as Hiei finished speaking he heard Ken-Sensei begin to speak to the class, “For those of you who have finished, there's another technique that I'd like you to try. It's the transformation jutsu, the signs are Dog, Boar, and Ram. You should stay in your groups as you practice.”

Sento looked up as he saw that the sensei was beginning to explain another technique that he already knew. “So this is what the academy is good for” he thought to himself. But it would present another opportunity to show up his brother at least. “Ken-sensei! May I demonstrate the technique!” he’d say aloud. When the sensei nodded Sento would rise from his seat and form the dog boar and ram seals in unison, and as he formed the last seal he would wink to his brother before turning into a mirror image of his younger brother. 

Upon doing so he would then mock his brother with the most insulting kid voice he could. “My names hiei and i’m bad at ninjutsu” He’d say before sticking out his tongue, and taking a seat, the rest of the class would laugh as he did so. And then the whole class clapped.

Hiei wasn't embarrassed by his brother’s mocking transformation, he descided to retort with a transformation of his own. Hiei formed the signs and prayed that they'd work, otherwise he really would be embarrassed. He felt himself transform into his older brother and thanked God that he was able to do it on his first try. It felt weird to walk and move as someone else, but he managed to get the hang of it quickly. He then walked to the front of the room and spoke in a nasal version of his brother's voice “Hi, my name’s Sento and I'm so shit at being a Shinobi that I'm still in the academy at 15 years old.” The class burst out laughing while Hiei undid the transformation and slowly went back to his seat. He glared at his brother with a mean smile and harsh eyes. He wondered if he'd been too harsh, but stopped thinking about it when he remembered that Sento had started it by making fun of him in front of the class.

“That little jerk” Sento thought to himself before hanging his head in shame. His brother knew full well the fact that he was in the academy was through no fault of his own, he had studied ninjutsu to the best of his ability with what he had been presented with. Their father had a very harsh view of shinobi, as he had suffered from PTSD during his time as one, and had strictly forbidden them from becoming one, it wasn’t until his father's death that he decided to enroll in the academy. 

When his brother returned to the seat next to him he showed him a certain finger discretely under his desk, to let him know how he felt. He was going to get him back for this, but doing it in class probably wasn’t a smart idea with a trained jounin in the front of the classroom. Sento then began to think about the various ways he could potentially get back at him.

Then his attention returned to the front of the class where Ken-sensei was helping the less talented students master the two techniques, some hadn’t even gotten the hang of the clone technique yet. This made Sento realise how talented him and his brother must look to the rest of them, he felt weird being the only fifteen year old in the classroom however and wanted to get out of the academy as soon as possible, he intended to take the gennin exam at the earliest possible opportunity to correct this.

As he finished the thought Ken-sensei seemed to finish helping the last student with their techniques. “Wow time flies when you're daydreaming” he thought to himself as he saw several students exit through the front door. Sento then reached down below his desk and grabbed his backpack strapping it to his back as he rose from his desk and made his way out the front door.
