Building Bridges

Ren wandered towards the meeting point; it seemed that blasted bridge had been broken again. Ren remembered fixing that thing last time, it had been his first mission, and what a job it was, it had been hard work but simple work composed of breaking trees and placing wood. So much simpler than they were now... Ren had been informed that he needed to supervise a pair of Genin as they Repaired the damn bridge. 'Funny' Ren thought 'Seems a little redundant to send the person that repaired the bridge last time to supervise the next repair, but what ever.' Ren finally came to stand by the broken bridge and glanced at his papers, it looked like one of the 'genin' he was assigned to was Yuri, Ren allowed himself a small smile at that, it would be good to see his old friend again. The other boy on his list though Ren didn't recognise... 'Must have been one of the lazy generation from before I took over the academy' Ren thought for a moment before shaking himself out of the thought.

Looking around Ren saw the boy from his papers lounging by a tree; meanwhile it didn't look like Yuri was here yet... With a shrug Ren started walking towards the boy, the papers said his name was Sinai so that is what he would go with. "You there! Sinai! Your supposed to be fixing the bridge, what do you think your doing lounging around?" Ren called out, not quite harshly but his voice clearly tinged with a tinge of irritation.

Being part of the blasted bridge, Yuri could tell that something must have ticked Ren off. He would not be starting the mission like that though now she knows what to address the new guy. Sinai was just sitting over there waiting for everybody even though he didn't notice Yuri. She figured that she would be proceeding with a cautious approach since Ren showed symptoms of a time bomb.

On the other hand, she checked out the scale of blasted bridge before trying to conceal herself. There are indications that this bridge had been patched up given the difference in its pattern of works done trying to hold the bridge up. Also, given the manner the bridge gave way, it would be safe to assume that a fight broke out. Various forms of slashes and burns decorate the bridge to give its current look, there are also some torches lying around, indicating that this fight might have taken place during the night where visibility is definitely partial. She wondered if tracking its participants would lead to preventing such events from happening again. However, that thought left her as soon as it came when She reminded herself that she is here to repair the bridge.

She resumed her normal form at the opposite side of the bridge where Sinai is at, facing the 2 other ninja awaiting for them to get ready.

Sinai leant against the thick trunk, absent-mindedly playing some sort of game that involved trying to catch as many flowers as possible. He didn’t see the slender figure approach. A shout broke the relative silence and the mention of his name quickly put an end to whatever game he was playing. Quickly standing up, his leg protesting at the abrupt movement. Finally, he laid eyes on the figure that called out to him. It looked like he was on a lucky streak as it was another woman. “My main element might be Raiton but by the looks of it, I’m on fire.” he thought to himself, managing a small smile. He moved closer to the figure, who albeit she knew his name; he had no idea who she is. Slender figure yet athletic build with White Hair. His smile quickly dropped as he estimated her BWH; Something was off. He didn’t know what but his estimates didn’t seem to make sense. “Guess I am still a bit sleepy.” he thought to himself to push the uneasiness off his mind.

“Well, This isn’t a one man job now, is it? I’m waiting for the other shinobi to show up so we can start working.” Sinai responded. “I guess you must the one I was waiting for?”. Yuri seemingly came out of nowhere, as it to answer his question. “I guess we meet again Yuri.” Sinai greeted her with a smile. “So, It's a three man job. Where do we start; You seem to have the checklist...Um, I don't think I was introduced to you.” he said to the white-haired woman. On a closer look, He could see that she was probably the most flat-chested woman he ever met. Working with women meant he will have to do most of the work but at least there was Yuri so he couldn’t really complain.

"Waiting for others to show up so you can start?" Ren asked incredulously; the boy's attitude starting to tick him off. "I don't care if its a one man job or a ten man job, if your here early then get started; in a battle that attitude would get you and your team killed" Ren almost yelled at the boy, barely hiding his irritation at this point. Perhaps he was merely compensating for the recent fiasco that was the blood games and the loss of his student in the process, but all the same his words were true. Ren was just about to continue ripping into the boy when he noticed Yuri heading towards them. With a half hearted sigh Ren turned towards the girl and called out "Yuri! It's good to see you" he said, forcing himself to smile as he moved towards the girl, arms outstretched for a hug. Assuming she took the hug Ren would lean in and pat her on the back with the embrace; not the greeting she was used to from Ren for sure, but Ren just couldn't muster the joviality that he had once shown at the mere sight of the girl. Before pulling away Ren would quietly whisper "I heard about the demotion, I really am sorry about that" to her before stepping back and coughing awkwardly "Ahm, yes right well its time we got to work, Yuri I've seen what you can do so how about you make some shadow clones and we'll have you focus on moving the materials and placing the logs." Ren said with a nod at the girl before turning to Sinai. "As for you unless you have some exceptionally useful skills that I haven't been informed of, your jobs to cut down some trees and shave the logs into planks, It'll be an opportunity to improve your strength while your at it" Ren said, noting the boy's slim frame and, in his opinion, lanky arms." As for me, I'm going to focus on reinforcing the supports on the ground." Ren said, turning to face the both of them again as he finished his orders to Sinai and began talking about what he would be doing. "All understood? No questions?" Ren asked, assuming he got a confirmation from the pair Ren would give them a curt nod and turn to walk off towards the cliff face before, almost as an after thought, turning around again. "And dont think I wont find out if you start slacking off Sinai! I expect that wood to keep coming!" After that stern warning Ren made his way down to the base of the bridge and placed some reinforcement seals, using his chakra sensing abilities to keep note of where everyone was the whole time. Once the job was done Ren would make his way to report the results, and perhaps hunt down whoever keeps breaking the damn bridge

Yuri realized that Ren only noticed her in her normal form. In her thoughts, this is telling her that something did happen to Ren and she wouldn't want to get him fired. He did anyways when she saw him bringing a little of his bad side to Sinai. The most prominent event that happened after the change of leadership was the blood games that bogged her; Something must have happened back then, maybe taking the loss of authority wasn't such a bad thing at all. Yuri looked at Ren as a glimpse of hint showed on his face, implying that Ren was not completely natural at expressing himself when moving towards Yuri, maybe she was wrong. Even so, Yuri could feel something missing to back his smile. When Ren spoke of her demotion, she could tell that Ren might had been better helping himself out. Yuri seldom found the need to make use of her newfound authority even though she risked her life so they Ren could get promoted as well. In the least she could tell that Ren paid a heavier price holding on to his authority and why was that? Only the Mizukage could decide on giving ranks. Yuri had better be prepared for the next encounter with the Abysswalker for his ability to change others. Anyways, the mission had to go on.

Ren wanted her to make use of her strengths which tells her that his physical abilities remains unchanged. Not wanting to expose her, Yuri proceeded to make 2 copies of herself that could accelerate the entire reparation process since there would be frequent moving of heavy objects in order to get the bridge working again. She instructed one of her clone to make a rough estimate of how much of supports are needed to replaced. That number must match the amount of materials needed else the bridge will not be completely repaired. Tell that to Sinai. One the clones nodded and went on with her task before rejoining Yuri. The other clone would do what Ren wanted Yuri to do as well. Yuri whispered placed her hand on the left shoulder of her clone, her clone looked over to see her eyes turning to Ren. She nodded. Hopefully Sinai would be good at coming out with materials required quickly to keep everybody busy or else it would just leave Ren more room in his mind to be filled with unnecessary thoughts. Yuri would first access the damage of each damaged portion by her strength; it is important for her to be able to lift partially broken pieces so that the bridge could even start getting repaired. As nobody knows what Sinai could do yet, it is understandable if he would take time for his given task. She hoped that the rest of the mission would keep Ren busy.

Well, This “Ren” seemed to be the one in charge. Sinai had no problem with women in power. As long as they were at least nice to look at. This “Ren” was really starting to tick him off. She seemed to be out for his blood alone, making a fuss out of nothing as if she had it in for him. Then when she greeted Yuri her attitude changed completely to a friendly aura. The fact that Yuri barely acknowledged him didn’t do him any favours to his now sour mood. At Least there was something nice to look at while he was working. Sinai offered no retort, this time keeping his anger in lease. He just had made it to genin, he wasn’t going to lose it because of some tight assed bitch. moved off to the logs needing to be chopped up. This was going to be hard work for sure, especially in his worn out state. Asking help from any of the women was of course out of the question; So was any type of slacking off. Giving his arms a good stretch, He just had the right jutsu in mind.


Forming a cross with the index and middle finger of both hands, he then focused his chakra. He was far from having mastered this Jutsu but he didn’t need it to be perfect to be useful this time. Smoked puffed up from his right flank and a single clone emerged. Its eyes were misaligned, its nose crooked and it's being inverted but it had two arms and two legs and that's all that mattered to Sinai. He gave it an affirming nod and they both moved to the logs and picked up the tools. He was determined to prove that woman wrong and set himself to work, working with a fury that beat back the aches of his body. He wasn’t particularly strong but when he set himself about a task, no matter how daunting, he rarely backed down.


He was hard at work, him and his clone producing planks as fast as they could when a shadow came over him. He looked up and made eye contact with the breasts of Yuri; Which instructed him something along the lines that he needed to make so much so planks before she turned and left. After his eyes moved from her wobbling posterior, he looked as his clone. “Any clue what she said?” he said. The Clone equally confused “I wasn’t really listening. Too busy looking at her ass. But I think she said something about 25 planks.”  Sinai shrugged and set back to work.

By noon, Sinai was a sweating heavily despite the misty weather. His Clone had puffed into a smoke cloud a while ago as his chakra reserves dwindled, giving him the mental picture of Yuri's posterior and a bigger workload. Yet, he persevered and the bridge repaired successfully. Another mission was completed. He staggered to the Administrative building to claim his reward and hopefully catch Yumi on his way but she was long gone when he arrived at his slow pace.
