Now that he possessed both the earth release and water release, it was time to do something even greater. Uggghhhh... but he was so tired. That training and research yesterday had taken quite a lot out of him. So, here he was, in bed, too lazy to get out. How shameful. Slowly, he forced himself up, swearing that he almost heard his bones creak. Nah, he was far too young for that. He was just lazy... just like all humans were. Better, in their minds, to lie around rather than actually work hard towards something. But not him... he would force himself if he had to.
Getting out of bed, he would dress slowly and drowsily, and make his slow way out to some small wooded area. Hoshigakure had plenty of those... it wasn't yet one of those super urban areas yet. Thank goodness for that, because what he was about to do worked better in these sorts of places. Sure, he could do it right in the middle of the city, but that would cause some property damage.... maybe. Well, better to start small, either way. He remembered what he had learned from his elemental training the other day, and knew that the process would be more simple now.
All he had to do was use water and earth release at the same time. But how would he go about this? He didn't know anything about proportion or finer points of chakra control. Well, since the library was closed.. he'd have to use trial and error. Then again, how many of his fellow clan members had to have guidance for this? He cast aside his aversion of this sort of methodology at that thought... he was better than them. He could figure this one out all by himself, no doubt.
He clapped his hand together, and focused as the two opposing elemental systems in his chakra network began to churn and activate. The dual power flowed through his body, even though he didn't know what kind of result it would have. At the very least, he'd be making a little bit of a mess, but if he were to be successful, he would be elated beyond belief. He doubted that it would work out that way though... and in the end, that's probably why he didn't get it on the first try at all. The ground underneath him softened greatly, and he sank into a pit of mud.
Well, crap. How he'd have to do another bit of washing this weekend to get this stuff out. Slowly and surely, he extracted himself from the mud. Imagine what would have happened had he tried this in a more urban area, he thought to himself. The results could have been really bad. It was amusing, especially the small "fwump" sound he had made as he sank into the mire he had created for himself. There was something subliminally metaphorical about that, but he didn't know what it was. That didn't matter, though.
He walked a short distance away, and tried again. Too much water, he thought to himself. Not enough earth. Well then, how would he regulate it? Normally, there was no surefire way to go about doing this. He could try going to the library tomorrow, but who knew what his condition would be then? No, he was awake right now, and he'd get this training done right now. Winners don't quit, he thought to himself. When all this was finally over, he'd thank himself for kicking his own ass into gear, unlike all those other losers who were filled with pathetic complacency.
Another bell sounded out, just like it had yesterday, this time probably calling the folk to early morning prayer. A lone voice called out in the wild "Make way!". Was there some kind of solemnity today? Kiichi had no idea. Neither did he really care, but it did give him an idea. "Make way", huh... was there a way that he could regulate the paths that the various elemental streams took? In other words, he'd be following the age old advice of "don't cross the streams". This, at least, would be a helpful substitute until he managed to gain greater chakra control.
When that happened, he'd be independent and free of all of these useless metaphors. Well, that was the wrong word, what about "mnemonics"? There, that was what he meant to say. Kiichi shook his head to clear away the vapors of sleep, he was starting to get distracted. He'd try one or two more times, then he'd go back to bed for sure. He clapped his hands together again, and focused. The world around him began to fade away slightly as he tried to divert the power streams within his own body. It was like trying to manage two different streams of water with a fucking sieve.
That was when he realized... streams have spouts. So did he, in a way. No, not those spouts, he thought to himself, getting his head out of the gutter. His arms. All he had to do really was to channel water element through one arm and earth through the other. With that, he would be able to manage the proportion of energy much better. This was, at least, a step in the right direction. Stretching a bit, he would get back into position and clap his hands one more time, infusing each hand with a different element.
And behold! The plants around him seemed to gain new vigor and life, as flowers bloomed out of season. Well, that might be bad for them in the longer term, but that didn't matter. He had it! This new power within his dantian had arrived so suddenly, he had barely noticed until he stopped focusing. The pure power of life, the Senju clan's legacy... the wood release. Yes, this had been his goal the whole time. He began to walk back home, his exhaustion tinged with hints of glorious euphoric joy.
